The Dodgers roster has been a carousel of All-Star (both current and former) talent playing nearly every day and the taxi squad members whose role is equally vital to the team's success.
One of those former taxi squad members, Santiago Espinal, has found a new home within the NL West. Espinal signed a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, as per an announcement from the Triple-A Reno Aces via X.
It's been a chaotic 2026 season for Espinal, who initially latched onto a minor league deal with the Dodgers and eventually made the opening day roster. He played in 36 games with the big league squad, slashing .268/.276/.375 with a home run and seven RBI across 60 plate appearances. He was released by the Dodgers on June 18 before signing a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers on July 2, only to once again be released 26 days later. Espinal slashed .262/.333/.310 with six RBI with the Triple-A Round Rock Express.
Right now the biggest talking point for the Dodgers outside of Shohei Ohtani's battle for MVP is the turbulent, lackluster first year of the Kyle Tucker experience. As the Dodgers prepare to open a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, all eyes will be pointed towards Tucker and whether he'll continue to underperform at home or possibly find his old, pre-Dodger self at the plate.
Mookie Betts and Miguel Rojas both sat down and spoke about Tucker's difficult season in the most recent episode of the On Base with Mookie Betts podcast, where Rojas touched on having his teammate's back despite the challenges.

Honestly? We knew it wouldn't be long before what is perhaps the most controversial shoe (if you can even call it that) of the year made its way onto the red carpet. Fashion has always loved an opinion-dividing shoe moment, and at last night's The Dog Stars premiere in London, Margaret Qualley stepped out in Chanel's much-discussed "barefoot" sandals, proving that even the most eyebrow-raising runway trends can find their way onto the red carpet.
There were plenty of highlights from the premiere, from Jacob Elordi arriving in Celine with his adorable dog, to Margaret's elegant, ethereal and effortlessly cool black fringed Chanel dress. But it was the actress's footwear that had everyone talking.
So, what exactly are the shoes?
First unveiled as part of Matthieu Blazy's Chanel Resort 2027 collection in Biarritz, the sandals take the phrase "barely there" in the most literal sense.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be planning to sell their Montecito home after reports surfaced about their plans to relocate to the UK. Following their reportedly successful reunion with King Charles, Harry has made it clear that he wants to spend more time in the UK. He wants to rebuild his relationship with his family. Amid this, reports suggest that the Sussexes are planning to return to Britain this month with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. They are also reportedly set to establish a new private residence in the UK and sell their home based in Montecito.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may have decided to sell their house in Montecito. The Duke and **** ss of Sussex moved to California in 2020 after stepping down from their senior working royal duties. They later bought a 7.38-acre property in Montecito. Their mansion features nine bedrooms, a spa with a gym, sauna, game room, home theater, and a massive kitchen. The property also boasts a children's cottage, rose gardens, a swimming pool, and a separate guest house.
Amid their plans to relocate to the UK this month, Jason Streatfeild, a broker, told the New York Post that there have been "rumblings" that the Sussexes would sell the property. He added that every broker wants to get the listing for their house.
According to the outlet, holding onto the property costs them roughly $600,000 a year. This could be a motivating factor in putting it up for sale. The broker further revealed that such big property sales are not generally made public right away. He said, "Many times properties like this will trade off market with a nondisclosure agreement signed and all of the terms sealed until the property records at the county."
The broker added, "It's very possible that they would be listing it, but I have a strong feeling that it's already being discussed and shown." The news comes after Harry and Markle reportedly planned to relocate to the UK along with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Michigan State football is gearing up for their first season under new head coach Pat Fitzgerald, where the Spartans are aiming to make their first bowl game since 2021. Coming into the season, Spartan fans will see a plethora with new faces, with 29 incoming transfers and 21 incoming freshmen.
While the incoming transfers are expected to play a major role in the upcoming season, it is almost certain that some of the freshmen will make their mark on the field in year one. With 21 freshmen making their way onto campus in 2026, Spartan fans will be eager to see which take the leap into immediate playing time.
Check out the three Spartans that could potentially be prime candidates for early playing time:
The most obvious choice, Gash was the highest rated commit in the Spartans 2026 recruiting class. A top 300 player in the class, Gash was highly sought after for the skills he possesses.
With the skills of a high level prospect and playing a position like wide receiver, that is easiest to get on the field as a young player, it is easy to see why Gash could find his way onto the field at a young age. Pair those factors with an unstable, rebuilt wide receiver room, it is a full blown open competition for spots in 2026.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to the U.K. won't be without its challenges.
According to a Wednesday, August 19 report in The New York Times, the Duke and ******* ss of Sussex will be leaving Montecito and moving back to England with their two young children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, in the coming weeks.
"There's no way they can do six-month stretches in each place, so they will have to be flying back and forth quite regularly," reveals the source. "For them and their entire entourage of staff and security, each trip sets them back a small fortune. Plus, they will have the costs of maintaining two households full-time."
In addition to their new U.K. residence, Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, will be holding onto Montecito digs, TMZ reported on Thursday. The $14.65 million mansion was purchased in 2020 and costs the couple $600,000-plus a year in mortgage payments and taxes alone, per the New York Post.

When Daniel Duarte had his second elbow surgery in April 2024, most people the right-handed reliever spoke to believed his chances of getting back to the big league mound were a relative coin flip.
Duarte's 18-month recovery has the potential to be a lifetime in Major League Baseball. An opportunity in his native Mexico in the Mexican Pacific Winter League this past winter helped the right-hander regain his confidence. He did not allow an earned run in 24 innings and converted five saves.
Then, the Mets came calling with a minor league deal.
"I knew once I have the opportunity, I can show that I still can pitch in the big leagues," Duarte told NorthJersey.com this week. "First of all, I want to be healthy because in the past, there's been a couple of injuries, like one Tommy John and bone spurs and tendinitis, different kind of stuff. I'm glad that now I have no problems, healthy and doing what I like."
More than two seasons removed from his baseball career teetering on disrepair, Duarte, whose only extended major league action came in 2023 with the Reds, has latched onto his opportunity in a Mets bullpen still reeling from a massive trade deadline sell-off.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri judge has allowed new U.S. House districts backed by President Donald Trump to be used in the November elections, rejecting a bid by to put the Republican-friendly districts to a statewide vote of the people.
The ruling Wednesday by Cole County Circuit Judge Daniel Green is a victory for Republicans seeking to hold onto their slim majority in the U.S. House. But the case is likely to end up in the state Supreme Court.
Missouri's new districts already were used in the August primaries. On that same day, Republican Secretary of State Denny Hoskins rejected a petition with thousands of signatures seeking to force a November referendum on the map. Hoskins ******* erted that Missouri's Constitution doesn't allow a referendum on congressional redistricting.
The judge agreed with Hoskins and other Republicans, who joined in defense of the new map.
"The Missouri Constitution does not supply any statement — let alone a clear one — reallocating authority over congressional redistricting away from the General ******* embly to a referendum process," Green wrote in the ruling.

In the Bundesliga's latest "Midweek Interview", Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel had a chance to talk about the upcoming season and the changes to the BVB squad. The departure of Julian Brandt, Karim Adeyemi, and Niklas Süle left plenty of ******* e and wages for Ole Book and Lars Ricken to work with.
The signing of Genk's Konstantinos Karetsas, PAOK's Giannis Konstantelias, and PSV's Joey Veerman in the build up to the season kick-off has certainly given Dortmund fans something to be excited about. Kobel knows that a step-up is required, but shares his enthusiasm:
"Today was only my first real team training. But with Karetsas, our new Greek talent, you don't need a lot of time to see that he has a lot of quality on the ball, that he's a great player and that he has a lot of potential. We have a lot of young guys with a lot of potential, and I'm really excited about what they can bring to the team and about their everyday work. They're going to improve and feel how the game is played here. Maybe it's a little faster, maybe it's a little more physical, depending on which league you're coming from. We'll see."
There are big expectations, especially on the shoulders of BVB's Greek signings. The 28-year-old notes that they can't rely on their new signings to fly from day one. He continues:
"If you play for Dortmund, you know how it is: you need to get your qualities onto the pitch every three days. But on the other hand, with a lot of young guys, it's not fair to expect them to carry the team every three days. It's going to be a team effort. The guys who have been here longer need to bring them together, prepare them for the season and help them build their confidence. The other guys, of course, need to show their talent as well."

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Sparks and Atlanta Dream experienced a blast from the recent past during their matchup at Crypto.com Arena on Thursday night.
During the third quarter of the lopsided contest, a spectator hurled a green ****** toy onto the court, sparking flashbacks to last season's spate of projectiles. Angel Reese pointed out the perpetrator right away from her seat on the bench, and he was apprehended by arena security.
The middle of the 2025 WNBA season was marred by several instances of green toys being thrown onto the court during play. The incidents started in late July at a Dream game and continued through the following week, including once at a Sparks game. The trend died out soon afterward and was thought to be linked to a particular memecoin.

Jim West thinks UFC champion Sean Strickland presents a challenge that ***** ody else does at middleweight.
Anthony Hernandez (15-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) saw his eight-fight winning streak snapped by Strickland (31-7 MMA, 18-7 UFC) in February. Strickland went onto upset Khamzat Chimaev to claim the middleweight ***** le at UFC 328.
Hernandez's coach West says they approached Strickland's unique style incorrectly.
"Like in Anthony's case, obviously he had an eight-fight win streak, which is the longest in UFC middleweight history, and then he had a mishap," West told MMA Junkie Radio. "OK, well, you fought a unicorn. Sean Strickland is a unicorn, right? When you look at all the middleweights, he's the only one that's going to present that thing that he does, right? There's no one else like Sean Strickland, so you have to throw that aside.
"It's almost kind of an outlier. There's things that I think went into that fight where he might have been in his own head a little bit that we talked about with certain things as far as the approach, and we just got caught against the now-current UFC champ. He's one-of-a-kind. We got caught, we made some mistakes, we didn't approach the fight the way we were supposed to, and we lost. You have to move on."

On August 18, Comcast Corp. (NASDAQ:CMCSA) announced Xfinity Shield, a new home security platform meant to make its broadband service harder to leave. The rollout matters because Comcast has spent much of 2026 managing broadband subscriber losses, and a bundled security product gives the company something fiber and wireless rivals cannot easily replicate. Xfinity Shield combines Wi-Fi-based protection, cybersecurity, and family controls inside the existing Xfinity app, folding a new revenue lever onto a business that badly needs one.
Xfinity Shield ships free to every Xfinity Internet customer, with a $15-a-month tier adding an indoor camera, door and window sensors, cloud video storage, and 24/7 urgent response. Comcast product chief Fraser Stirling described the strategy plainly, saying the company is "lowering the barrier of entry to the idea of a total security product under Xfinity Shield." The timing lines up with how connected the average home has become. Comcast says the typical Xfinity customer now runs 36 devices on their home Wi-Fi, and its network filters an average of 30 million threats every day, numbers that make a bundled security layer feel less like an add-on and more like a necessity.
That stickiness push sits on top of a business that already throws off serious cash. Comcast generated nearly $21.9 billion in free cash flow in FY 2025 and turned $123.7 billion in revenue into roughly $20.0 billion of net income, a 16.2% margin. Execution has held up too. Peacock turned profitable for the first time, wireless lines crossed a major milestone, and Comcast beat earnings estimates in its most recent quarter, evidence that the company can still deliver even while restructuring around it.
None of that changes the core problem Xfinity Shield is designed to fix: broadband subscribers are still leaving. Comcast faces intensifying competition from fiber providers and 5G fixed wireless rivals, a fight that keeps chipping away at what was once a near-monopoly business. The balance sheet reflects a company carrying real leverage, with a debt-to-equity ratio of 1.1x and a current ratio of 0.9x, meaning short-term liabilities outweigh short-term ***** ets as of the December 2025 balance sheet.
Comcast also paused its share buyback program ahead of a planned NBCUniversal spinoff, a separation that adds years of complexity for investors trying to value the pieces separately. The company took an $8.6 billion noncash impairment tied to Sky, and rising costs for sports broadcasting rights, including the NFL and NBA, continue to pressure the media segment. There is also an uncomfortable irony in Comcast selling a cybersecurity product months after agreeing to a $117.5 million settlement over a prior Xfinity data breach, a reminder that the company's own network security has already been tested and found wanting once.

This week had absolutely everything you could hope for: an upset that sent an NSL side home from the Canadian Championship, seven goals in Calgary, a stoppage-time winner in Vancouver and a Montréal side that walked away from Toronto with another clean sheet.
With the regular season moving deeper into August, every result is starting to tilt the playoff scales. Here's how the latest run of action unfolded.
Wednesday, Aug. 12 | Stade Boréale, Laval, Quebec | Canadian Championship quarterfinal
Simcoe County Rovers FC did not look like an underdog when the whistle blew. They bloomed into a team that had decided the occasion belonged to them.
Just three minutes into the match, Teagan Handley swung a corner into the box and Tia Schaffer rose above the crowd to bury a header. The early goal gave Simcoe something valuable against an experienced Montréal side: confidence.

CHICAGO (AP) — Right-hander Grant Holmes of the Atlanta Braves is pitching a no-hitter through six innings against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday.
Atlanta led 2-0 in the top of the seventh in a makeup game of a June 11 rainout at Rate Field.
The 30-year-old Holmes has retired 18 of the first 20 White Sox hitters. Colson Montgomery walked with two outs in the second and Drew Romo walked with one out in the fifth for Chicago's only baserunners.
There's been only one-no hitter in the majors this season, a combined effort by three Houston pitchers in a 9-0 win over Texas on May 25. The Braves' last no-hitter was by Kent Mercker in a 6-0 win over the Dodgers at Los Angeles on April 8, 1994.
Holmes has never pitched a complete game in the majors. His longest effort was 7 2/3 innings on April 14, 2025, in an 8-4 win over Toronto.

Recent weeks on the NFL media rights beat have marked a changing of the tides.
Last September, the NFL publicly acknowledged for the first time that it would seek to strike early renewals with its broadcast partners several years prior to the 2029-30 season, when it has the contractual option to exit most of its agreements. The goal for the league was simple: negotiate higher rights fees now and, in return, remove the exit option at the end of the decade, allowing its partners to guarantee themselves NFL inventory well into the 2030s.
At first, it looked as if new deals were inevitable. After all, NFL programming is borderline existential to legacy broadcast networks like CBS, Fox, and NBC, all of which still rely on lucrative retransmission fees from distributors and local affiliates to fund their businesses. But then, things began to change. The NFL started facing pressure from all corners of Washington. Congress, the FCC, the DOJ, and others all started scrutinizing the shift of live sports off of linear television and onto streaming services. Those roadblocks seemingly bought league partners enough time to where no new deals were finalized prior to the 2026-27 season, as the NFL reportedly wanted.
Now, any early deals would only grant the NFL three additional seasons at higher rights fees (assuming it would otherwise exercise its opt-out clause at the end of the decade). And it seems like the league's broadcast partners are starting to sense they have a bit of leverage to hold out without risk of losing the NFL following the 2029-30 season.
During a recent earnings call, Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch outright said his network won't negotiate early, instead saying Fox will negotiate with the NFL on a normal cadence around the 2029-30 timeline. Further reporting suggested that negotiations between CBS and the NFL were "on hold" amid Paramount's ongoing effort to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. And while CBS Sports president David Berson did not outright rule out early negotiations when speaking with Awful Announcing last week, the undertones of his answers suggested nothing was imminent between the two sides.

The Cincinnati Bengals had a joint practice with the Chicago Bears this afternoon, and almost everything went off without a hitch.
Of course, a few scuffles popped up during these things, but one in particular involved Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
Reporters on the scene said that Dayo Odeyingbo held onto Burrow's jersey and refused to let go, causing a brief scuffle that thankfully did not escalate further.
You imagine there will be fights over contact. Especially the guys constantly colliding in the trenches, but for a defender to make contact with an opposing team's quarterback in this situation is fairly uncalled for.
I won't go as far as to say it was dirty as much as it is just a dumb thing to do. It is not surprising to hear this led to a fight.

Arsenal have been handed a boost ahead of their match against Coventry, as the Premier League new boys have lost one of their key players to injury.
Coventry know the challenge they will face when they step onto the pitch against defending champions ******* nal, so they will want all their best players available for the game. However, Frank Lampard will be without Haji Wright, who has been sidelined for several weeks because of injury.

Today in Boston Celtics history, Jerryd Bayless was born in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1988. He played his NCAA basketball for the Arizona Wildcats for a single season before entering the 2008 NBA Draft, where the Indiana Pacers selected him with the 11th overall pick.
The Phoenix native never suited up for the Pacers, dealt to the Portland Trail Blazers soon after the draft was over. He also played for the (then) New Orleans Hornets (now, Pelicans), Toronto Raptors, and Memphis Grizzlies before the latter ball club sent Bayless to Boston in a trade that netted the Celtics 3-and-D wing Courtney Lee. Bayless played just one season for the Celtics, suiting up for a total of 41 games and starting 14 of them.
He averaged 10.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.1 ***** ists while with the Celtics, leaving in free agency next summer to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks.
It is also the birthday of Sihugo Green, born in New York City in 1933. An alum of Duquesne, Green was the No. 1 overall pick of the 1956 NBA Draft, taken by the (then) Rochester Royals (now, Sacramento Kings). The New Yorker played for the Royals after their move to Cincinnati, the St. Louis Hawks before they relocated to Atlanta, and the defunct Chicago Packers, Zephyrs, and the also-defunct Baltimore Bullets before joining the Celtics via trade in 1965. The last stop of his career, Green averaged 3.2 points and 1.1 rebounds per game as a Celtic, retiring afterward.
Finally, it is also the birthday of Quinn Buckner, born today in 1954 in Phoenix, Illinois. Buckner played college ball with the Indiana Hoosiers, where he won an NCAA championship, and was drafted seventh overall in the 1976 NBA Draft by the Bucks. He was dealt to the Celtics in 1982, and won a ***** le in his second of three seasons with Boston. The Indiana alum averaged 4.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.8 ***** ists, traded to the Indiana Pacers in 1983.

The Washington Commanders sat almost all of their starters in Friday's 20-7 preseason win over the Miami Dolphins. That list included starting running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt and the player he'll share time with, Rachaad White. Veteran Jeremy McNichols also didn't play.
Their absences created an opportunity for rookie running backs, sixth-round pick Kaytron Allen and undrafted free agent Robert Henry Jr. The rookies took advantage, combining for 160 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Both were impressive, with Allen leading the way with 85 yards. However, Henry looked explosive and could force his way onto the 53-man roster.
Veteran Jerome Ford also played in Friday's game, carrying the ball one time.
Considering how well Washington's rookies looked, it was a bit surprising on Monday when it was revealed that the Commanders were signing veteran back Craig Reynolds. When head coach Dan Quinn met with the media on Sunday, he provided some clarity on McNichols.
"So, Jeremy, he'll be out for a few weeks," Quinn said. "He's got a pretty good quad injury, so he will not be back in for this week. You'll see him off to the side, working some rehab into that spot, but he's got a pretty good quad injury that'll take a few weeks, for sure."

(Corrects paragraph 4 to show the Israeli settler appeared to be holding a code book of Jewish law, not a Torah)
By Pesha Magid, Ammar Awad and Sinan Abu Mayzer
QUSRA, West Bank, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Palestinian American Loui Ridi raised a giant American flag over his West Bank home, hoping it might deter militant settlers besieging ‌the property. But it wasn't enough to stop one of them from walking onto Ridi's land on Tuesday, during a tense face-off.
Ridi arrived in Qusra late on Monday after traveling from ‌the U.S., fearing he could lose the property to Jewish settlers who have encircled three Palestinian homes in the village for more than a week, prompting U.S. condemnation.
Ridi, who grew up in the village in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, was taking a morning walk among his cherry and fig trees on Tuesday when a settler approached from the hill above, in an encounter filmed by Reuters, the only media outlet present.

Caitlin Clark already owns a lot of basketball records, is bound to set more and is seeking a WNBA championship with the Indiana Fever.
The numbers and trophies aren't prominent in what she hopes her legacy will be when she stops playing basketball, Clark said before the Fever's game Tuesday night, Aug. 18, against the Toronto Tempo.
"And I hope, you know, when I'm done playing one day, that's what people remember the most about me, is the way I've been able to unite people to cheer on basketball and love a game, or bring people together to, you know, love a sport in a way that they've maybe never have before," Clark said.
Clark averages 22.1 points (third in the league), 8.3 ******* ists (first) and 3.8 rebounds per game as the Fever have won five straight games and stand third in WNBA standings.
