But because minors generally can't open bank accounts on their own, a parent or guardian will usually need to help. You must follow the right steps if you want to open savings account for your child. Much of the process is similar to opening a savings account for yourself, with some additional considerations.
Keep in mind that banks often require a parent or legal guardian to be present when opening a savings account for a child.

Alluvium ****** et Management, an ****** et management company, released its "Conventum – Alluvium Global Fund" second-quarter 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. The second quarter reflected a sharp shift from geopolitical uncertainty and oil market volatility to a powerful equity rally led by semiconductor companies. Despite the broader market strength, the Fund declined 1.4% in EUR terms, 2.2% in USD terms, and 3.9% in AUD terms. Portfolio results were mixed, with Alphabet benefiting from strong Cloud growth, while Robert Half, H&R Block, and other holdings posted solid gains. However, cable businesses and several healthcare and consumer holdings weighed on performance. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Conventum – Alluvium Global Fund highlighted HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA). HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA) owns and operates hospitals and related healthcare entities. On September 15, 2026, HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA) closed at $423.04 per share. HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA) returned 3.93% over the past month, and its shares are up 5.92% over the past year. HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA) has a market capitalization of $91.76 billion.
Conventum – Alluvium Global Fund stated the following regarding HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Our two healthcare companies had a poor quarter (in terms of share price performance, not business fundamentals). HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA), the hospital operator, fell 17.5%. The share price fell 8.8% immediately following its first quarter results (despite management reaffirming its 2026 guidance). We suspect this is a (over) reaction to poorer than expected respiratory volumes due to a mild flu season. With the shares trading at a discount to our valuation we bought a little more to bring the Fund's position to 6.4%."
HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA) is not on our list of the 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 75 hedge fund portfolios held HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA) at the end of the second quarter which was 70 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the potential of HCA Healthcare, Inc. On September 10, LightPath Technologies (NASDAQ:LPTH) reported fiscal fourth-quarter and full-year results that turned a multiyear strategic bet into a financial statement. Revenue nearly doubled for the year, margins expanded, and the company walked away from its last manufacturing ties to China. For a small-cap optics supplier that spent years explaining a strategy, this was the quarter the strategy started explaining itself.
Annual revenue climbed 92.7% to $71.7 million from $37.2 million, and the fourth quarter alone hit a record $21.2 million, up 73.8% year over year. That growth is not just volume. Full-year gross margin expanded to 36% from 27.2%, and the fourth quarter came in even higher at 39.4%, because ****** emblies, modules and cameras now make up 44% of annual sales instead of being sold as raw components.
CEO Sam Rubin said the shift reflects both a change in what LightPath sells and better execution on what it already made, noting every one of its four product groups improved margin for the year. Backlog finished at $110.9 million, up 197% from $37.4 million a year earlier, with $85.6 million of it scheduled for delivery within 12 months. Weeks after the fiscal year closed, the company booked another $24 million in counter-UAS orders, and some of those programs have already moved to monthly delivery cadences of tens of units.
LightPath also completed its exit from China, selling its subsidiary there for $4.5 million paid out over five years, leaving the company with no manufacturing footprint in a country that increasingly can't supply the defense primes it depends on. That matters because defense programs face a deadline this decade to source optics away from covered nations, and qualification cycles run two to three years, meaning the sourcing decisions being made now will determine who wins contracts in 2029 and 2030.
The company's fourth-quarter net loss narrowed to $4.1 million from $7.1 million a year earlier, but full-year operating expenses jumped to $45.5 million from $22 million, and $15.6 million of that was a noncash charge tied to G5 Infrared outperforming the earnout targets set at acquisition. Management called that charge mostly behind the business now that the final G5 payout has been accrued for January 2027, but it is a reminder that acquisition accounting can swing the income statement even when operations are healthy.

Warren Buffett spent his final stretch as Berkshire Hathaway's chief executive building the largest corporate cash reserve in American history.
He sold more stock than he bought for 14 consecutive quarters and effectively froze share repurchases across his final six, CNBC reported.
By the time he handed the role to Greg Abel on January 1, 2026, Berkshire's cash pile stood at $373.3 billion, a CNBC interview with Greg confirmed.
Three months into Abel's tenure, that reserve climbed to a record $397.4 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2026, according to Berkshire's 10-Q filing.
Six months into the job, Abel has reversed both positions. Berkshire became a net buyer of equities in the second quarter for the first time in more than three years, with buybacks also surging to $4.5 billion.

I'm turning 68 shortly and plan to wait to claim my Social Security at age 70 to maximize the monthly benefit. I also plan to retire at the end of the year, if not sooner (so in three months or less). Does withdrawing from my traditional IRAs (current balance is $215,000) to reduce the income tax on my RMDs outweigh the benefit of keeping those withdrawals invested and growing tax-deferred? My understanding is that if I withdraw amounts up to my standard deduction, then those amounts would be tax-free.
– Austen
Retirement withdrawals, Social Security benefits, required minimum distribution (RMDs), taxes … there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to making decisions about your retirement income. Reducing the amount of money that's subject to RMDs can help minimize your taxes once they kick in. This may also help avoid taxes on your Social Security benefits.
If you don't need the money now, but want to reduce RMDs later, one of the best moves might be converting a portion of your IRA to a Roth IRA each year. That can help reduce future required withdrawals and allow your money to grow tax-free, though there can be tax consequences for certain withdrawals. (A financial advisor can help guide you through the Roth conversion process and potentially avoid unwanted tax consequences.)

Oil isn't the only commodity in the middle of a massive price surge.
Key agricultural commodities that feed into the food supply chain have also been rallying over the past month.
Industry watchers say it may only be a matter of time before higher input costs hit grocery prices.
Agricultural commodities are typically purchased one to two quarters before they are delivered and processed into finished products.
"That purchasing window creates a price-movement lag," Amanda Rastovic, senior forecast **** yst at Expana, told Yahoo Finance, noting food companies gradually pass higher input costs down the supply chain.

Aug 31 (Reuters) - Kalshi permanently banned former U.S. congressman George Santos ‌from its platform on Monday ‌and imposed a penalty of $71,356, citing insider trading.
The company said in a disciplinary action that its compliance department had found reasonable cause to believe ‌the former lawmaker engaged in illicit trading.
The move comes as prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket have seen a rise in suspicious trading activity, presenting new compliance challenges as regulators ‌and law enforcement intensify scrutiny of the growing sector.
Kalshi had reported Santos to the U.S. Department of Justice in June after detecting suspicious ‌trading activity from his account on the platform, a source told Reuters at ‌the time.
Santos was expelled from Congress over fraud and identity theft. U.S. President Donald Trump commuted his over-seven-year ‌prison sentence last year.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent moved fast to calm the bond market this month. Two of the biggest names on Wall Street just moved just as fast to say it probably will not be enough. A rebuttal that landed within days of his own announcement.
The pushback lands at an awkward moment for Bessent. The national debt just hit a fresh milestone and a closely watched Federal Reserve speech is only days away. Both developments raise the stakes for whatever the Treasury decides to do next.
Interest rate strategists at Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo both said the Treasury Department's expanded bond buybacks will do little to reverse the recent jump in long-term yields. Rates on 10- and 30-year Treasuries briefly dropped after the announcement, then rose again, erasing much of the initial relief, Bloomberg reported.
Goldman Sachs strategists George Cole and William Marshall wrote in an August 21 research note that the buyback expansion "does not address what we see as the main sources of recent long-end volatility." They added that the buybacks are "unlikely to meaningfully reset rate levels even if scaled up."
Wells Fargo strategists led by Erik Nelson made a similar case in their own August 21 note, arguing that lowering long-end yields would require macroeconomic shifts rather than Treasury market operations. They pointed to a slowdown in growth and inflation, less uncertainty around Federal Reserve policy, fiscal consolidation, or a decline in investment-grade corporate bond issuance as the kinds of catalysts actually needed to move yields lower.

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech may clarify his vision for interest rate policy.
Warsh's less-is-more communication strategy has created uncertainty, impacting bond markets and investor confidence.
As the marquee event in economics approaches, investors are wondering whether they'll get morsels of clarity from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh—or whether he'll remain tight-lipped about the Fed outlook.
Warsh will speak at 10 a.m. ET on Friday at the Kansas City Fed's annual Jackson Hole conference, giving him a chance to hit the reset ******* on with markets if he chooses.
The Fed's new chair has adopted a less-is-more communication style, giving the Fed more flexibility to pivot on interest rates in an uncertain environment. Investors, however, are still getting used to less guidance on how the Fed may react to incoming data.

Kroger CEO Gregory Foran has been open about the fact that many of his chain's stores need work.
"Our operating costs have been growing faster than our sales. That's not sustainable. And frankly, it's not acceptable. Taking costs out of this business is not optional. It's the starting point for everything else we want to do," he said during the chain's first-quarter earnings call.
He also made it clear that many Kroger locations are not well run.
"The way we operate behind the stores needs to improve. We need to move faster, make decisions more quickly, and get more out of the ******* ets and the talent we already have," he added.
Those are problems that won't be easily solved because of how the chain has opted to spend its money. Kroger has also been dealing with falling in-store customer counts, and that may be a problem the chain caused itself.

Carillon Tower Advisers, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Carillon Eagle Mid Cap Growth Fund". A copy of the letter is available to download here. Mid-cap stocks delivered strong results, with the Russell Midcap® Growth Index rising 14.55% and slightly outperforming the Russell Midcap® Value Index's 13.40% gain. Information technology led the growth index with a 36.90% return, while industrials also outperformed, and energy was the only sector to decline. The quarter was supported by resilient corporate earnings, economic growth and AI infrastructure spending, although geopolitical tensions, higher energy prices and election-related uncertainty could create volatility. The firm remains optimistic that data-center investment will support technology, energy, defense and automation companies, while attractive healthcare valuations and stronger merger activity could create opportunities. However, financials and consumer stocks face mixed conditions because of housing weakness, inflation and uneven spending. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Carillon Eagle Mid Cap Growth Fund highlighted Karman Holdings Inc. (NYSE:KRMN). Karman Holdings Inc. (NYSE:KRMN) has a market capitalization of $6.04 billion with a 52-week trading range between $43.68 - $118.38.

"Karman Holdings Inc. (NYSE:KRMN) provides components and systems for existing and emerging missile, defense, and **** e programs. The company's stock underperformed after Karman reported quarterly organic growth that came in slightly below market expectations. Despite these near-term dynamics, Karman's positioning as a supplier to a wide range of the most rapidly growing military programs – spanning hypersonics, strategic missile defense, tactical munitions, and **** e and launch operations – provides significant visibility toward robust organic growth for the foreseeable future."

AI is now greatly advancing both sides of the cybersecurity war, with data increasingly favoring attackers. This isn't an isolated data point, as Check Point's 2026 Cyber Security Report, its 14th annual study, found that organizations fell victim to an average of 1,968 cyberattacks per week back in 2025, a 70% increase from 2023, as attackers increasingly make use of automation and AI to move more quickly and operate across a number of attack surfaces at the same time. Meanwhile, Mandiant's M-Trends 2026 report further highlights the timeframe problem: 28.3% of revealed vulnerabilities are now exploited in less than 24 hours, with time-to-exploit effectively negative when ******* aults arrive before patches.
That narrow window between vulnerability discovery and attack is exactly the dynamic that is altering business security budgets, and Wall Street sees CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWD) as one of the companies best positioned to gain from it. In fiscal Q1 2027, the company's revenue reached $1.39 billion, up 26% year-over-year, while ending ARR was a record $5.51 billion, up 24%, with net new ARR of $256 million increasing 32% year-over-year, indicating an acceleration rather than a slowing in the pace of new business. Profitability scaled alongside the expansion, with non-GAAP net income growing to $283 million from $184.7 million the year before.
Although CrowdStrike's underlying trajectory remains robust, its valuation multiple is the key source of concern for institutional investors. Shares are currently trading at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 119.92x, which is a significant premium above prominent cybersecurity rivals such as Palo Alto Networks (84.74x), SentinelOne (39x), and Zscaler (32.72x). At almost 120x forward earnings, the current stock price requires sustained mid-to-high 20% annual revenue growth and continued margin improvement over several years to justify trading levels in hindsight.
Against this backdrop, Stifel's July 17 price target increase to $230 from $220, following investor meetings with CrowdStrike's CFO on AI tailwinds, fiscal 2027 confidence, and Falcon Flex traction, reads as sell-side confirmation of a growth story already supported by the company's own numbers, rather than primary evidence for it.
The firm also cited a growing sales pipeline supporting confidence in CrowdStrike's net-new annual recurring revenue guidance increase issued last quarter, as well as management's stated willingness to increase the size and pace of acquisitions, which would be funded with a combination of stock and debt.

Circle—the company behind USDC (the digital dollar used by millions worldwide for payments, savings, and international transfers)—just bought the blockchain patent library IBM spent more than a decade building. The deal, announced July 27, hands Circle over 1,000 blockchain patents issued by IBM worldwide.
Patents are legal rights that give the holder exclusive control over a specific invention. If you hold a patent on a method for processing transactions on a blockchain—the shared digital ledger where crypto activity is permanently recorded and can't be altered—you get to decide who else uses it and on what terms. IBM had been building that kind of leverage since its mid-2010s enterprise blockchain push.
By December 2025, patent ******* ytics firm PatSnap credited IBM with 790 U.S. blockchain patents—more than any other American company, with Bank of America a distant second at roughly 200. Circle, which received its first-ever patent in December 2023 (covering parallel blockchain data processing—a technique for verifying multiple groups of transactions simultaneously), went from essentially zero to the top of the U.S. rankings overnight.
"The portfolio comprises over 680 patent families and nearly 1,000 issued patents worldwide, spanning foundational blockchain technology, banking, financial services, insurance, enterprise infrastructure, supply chain verification, and secure cloud operations," Circle said in its official announcement.
Circle plans to put them to work across its entire stack. "The expanded IP position directly supports Circle's foundation for building the internet financial system, including USDC, Circle Payments Network, Arc, and a growing suite of onchain products and agentic financial tools," the company added. Arc is Circle's own payment-focused blockchain built for institutional finance. The agentic tools are AI-powered software programs that can execute financial transactions autonomously—no human required for each step.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung flew to San Francisco on July 24 for a summit with the most powerful names in artificial intelligence. Jensen Huang was there. Sam Altman was there. The heads of Samsung, SK Group, Hyundai Motor and Naver flew in. By the end of the day, roughly $950 billion in new AI agreements had been signed, and South Korea had positioned itself as the country most central to the next phase of the buildout.
Nvidia (NVDA) is not slowing down its global hunt for AI infrastructure partners. The chipmaker has spent much of 2026 signing deals across Asia, the Middle East and Europe to secure the chips, memory and power it needs to keep building AI systems.
On July 24, that hunt landed squarely on South Korea, with a cluster of new agreements announced within hours of each other.
Nvidia said on July 24 that it has locked down AI memory supply from SK Hynix, South Korea's second most valuable company, CNBC reported. The agreement, unveiled late that evening in San Francisco, could be worth $500 billion over a number of years, and it includes large-scale data centers expected to come online in 2027.
SK Hynix affiliate SK Telecom will build a cloud business using Nvidia's Vera Rubin systems as part of the deal.
