Police have issued a warning about a scam where organised crime groups offer fake heavily discounted deals from retail providers on social media.
Derbyshire Police's cyber crime team told the BBC there have been 30 instances in the county this year of people handing over money to what they thought were supermarkets, electronic and catalogue retailers.
Officers said it was a "new tactic" from scammers to obtain bank details by offering deals ranging from 40% to 70% off items and services.
PC Colin Smith, who is leading the force's Operation Chipper, said: "The classic sign is if it's too good to be true, it generally is."
The scam works by people paying what they think is a legitimate retailer offering heavy discounts.

Texas A&M's 2028 recruiting class will take center stage this fall, as five-star quarterback Donald Tabron and four-star Edge Chance Archangel are currently the program's lone commitments heading into the 2026 season, but this is just the start for coach Mike Elko and his staff, who are set to host a growing list of blue-chip prospects in the cycle during all seven of the Aggies' home games.
Among that growing list is five-star defensive lineman Kellan Hall, who recently placed Texas A&M on his Top 12 program list and has released his unofficial visit list for the fall. He will reportedly make his way to College Station on Oct. 3 and will attend Texas A&M vs. Arkansas in Kyle Field, joining several elite 2028 recruits, including five-star safety Casey Barner.

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was asked about starting running back Josh Jacobs' standing with the club, following Thursday's news that Jacobs was officially being charged with battery and criminal damage to property, after the Packers' win on Friday against the Arizona Cardinals. He didn't leave any grey area in his response: "I fully anticipate him being a member of our team."
Green Bay is standing by Jacobs, at least for now. In Brown County's report on the Jacobs charges, they state that a video was captured via a security system at Jacobs' residence. According to the report, Jacobs threw an unnamed woman, described in the report as his girlfriend, on the ground, leaving "observed redness" on the woman's face and neck. She also was left with a ******* p on her head, per the report.
Brown County stated that the video, among other things, includes "the altercation" that took place in the garage, confirming the unnamed woman's claims to police, as well as Jacobs taking the unnamed woman's phone once she was on the floor of the garage.
Jacobs was not given a "domestic violence enhancer" on his charges, in part because of the state's specific requirements for the label "domestic violence." To receive a domestic violence label on a charge in Wisconsin, a victim must have either previously or currently been married to, living with or have a child with the perpetrator. The presumption here is that the victim did not live with Jacobs, therefor Jacobs cannot receive the domestic violence enhancer, despite the victim being described as his girlfriend in the police report.
It is expected that Jacobs will receive probation and enter a batterers intervention program, if found guilty, based on the precedent of previous cases with similar details in the state of Wisconsin. Generally, the NFL punishes domestic violence cases with a five- to six-game suspension, but the question now is whether the Packers believe a suspension would be applied to the 2026 season or the 2027 season, if Jacobs is found guilty in-season.

That technology is distinct from NeXT Personal, the company's tumor-informed molecular residual disease test and the central strategic target of the acquisition. For Tempus AI, Inc. (NASDAQ:TEM), the clinical result validates Personalis's sequencing capabilities without establishing the economics of either product.

A judge has granted a hearing to explore claims that a man wants to recant allegations of ****** ual abuse years ago by Penn State ****** istant football coach Jerry Sandusky.
Sandusky, 82, has been serving a decades-long prison sentence since he was convicted of 45 counts of ****** ual abuse in 2012. Eight young men testified about what happened to them as boys. He has repeatedly lost efforts to get a new trial, but Sandusky's lawyers are trying again.
A man identified in court documents as R.R. said he was coached extensively by authorities.
"I was told — both directly and indirectly — that trauma may have fragmented my memory, and that I could safely affirm details I did not fully recall. I was ****** ured this was common and even expected," R.R. said in an affidavit filed by Sandusky's attorneys.
A court hearing in Centre County has been scheduled for Sept. 8.

NUUK, Greenland (AP) — Two reports investigating the forcible contraception of thousands of Indigenous women and girls in Greenland by Danish health authorities for decades were split over whether the practice constituted genocide.
The Greenlandic government, which commissioned the inquiry, released the reports Friday but, when pressed by journalists during a news conference, would not say whether its leaders concluded whether a genocide had occurred. The government told the authors to use the definition under the United Nations' 1948 genocide convention, which includes "imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group."
The reports come as U.S. President Donald Trump pushes to control the Arctic island, which is a self-governing territory of Denmark. The leaders of Greenland and Denmark say the island is not for sale and only Greenlanders can decide their fate.
Known as the "spiral case, " the revelations have rocked both Denmark and Greenland. More than 350 Greenlandic Indigenous women and girls, including some 12 years old and younger, previously came forward to investigators and reported that they were forcibly given contraception by Danish health authorities. Denmark says more than 4,000 women and girls — reportedly half the fertile women in Greenland at the time — received IUDs between the 1960s and mid-1970s.
The Inuit victims, many of them teenagers at the time, said they were either fitted with intrauterine contraceptive devices, known as IUDs or coils, or given a hormonal birth control injection. They were not told details about the procedure, or did not give their consent.

On August 13, Celcuity (NASDAQ:CELC) walked investors through a quarter unlike any in the company's history. The clinical-stage biotech is no longer just clinical: its breast cancer drug Revtopik won FDA approval on July 14, and the call was built around how the company plans to turn that approval into an actual business. The tone was confident, but the numbers underneath told a more complicated story about what launching a first drug really costs.
The regulatory news alone stood out. The FDA approved Revtopik on July 14 for patients with HR positive, HER2-negative advanced breast cancer without a PIK3CA mutation who had progressed on prior endocrine therapy. Less than three weeks later, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network recommended both the Revtopik triplet and doublet as preferred Category 1 options for second-line treatment, a fast endorsement suggesting oncologists see real value here.
That value shows up in the data. In the PIK3CA mutant cohort of the VIKTORIA-1 trial, the gedatolisib triplet produced a median progression-free survival of 11.1 months versus 5.6 months for alpelisib plus fulvestrant, cutting the risk of progression or death in half. Just 5.2% of triplet patients and 3.8% of doublet patients stopped treatment due to side effects, compared to 19% on alpelisib. CEO Sullivan said that 4% to 5% range "best represents what we expect to see in a real world setting," a detail that matters because patients who stay on a drug longer generate more revenue over time.
Celcuity is not stopping at second-line treatment either. The VIKTORIA-2 trial has been expanded to test gedatolisib in treatment-naive, endocrine-sensitive patients, a group that makes up roughly two-thirds of newly diagnosed advanced breast cancer cases each year. That bet is backed by earlier Phase 1b data showing a median progression-free survival of 48.6 months, nearly double the roughly 25 months typical of current standard of care. Commercially, the company says its 80-person oncology sales team, averaging 24 years of experience, is fully built, backed by $754 million in cash management expects to last into 2029.
Turning that approval into revenue has been expensive. Net loss widened to $78.9 million, or $1.44 per share, for the quarter, compared to a loss of $45.3 million a year earlier. Selling, general, and administrative expenses jumped $27.4 million to $35 million, driven mostly by hiring the commercial team needed to support the launch. Celcuity has not shipped a single vial yet, with shipments not expected to begin until late in the third quarter of 2026.

NFL free agent Miles Sanders is facing a DUI charge after a June arrest near Pittsburgh in which police say they found the former Pro Bowl running back slumped over behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped in the middle of a highway.
Sanders, 29, was arrested June 8 in Churchill Borough and is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and careless driving. TMZ reported the case on Aug. 27 after court records detailing the arrest became public.
The arrest occurred close to where Sanders grew up and played at Woodland Hills High School before attending Penn State. He is currently unsigned after spending the 2025 season with the Dallas Cowboys, where knee and ankle injuries ended his year after four games.
Sanders' attorney has declined to discuss the allegations in detail. The DUI case remains pending, and Sanders has not been convicted of the charge.
An officer found Sanders in the driver's seat of a silver Lexus that was motionless in the middle of William Penn Highway near Beulah Drive, according to the criminal complaint obtained by CBS Pittsburgh. Police said several attempts were made to wake him. The complaint describes Sanders as "in and out of consciousness," "extremely lethargic" and unable or unwilling to answer questions as officers tried to make contact with him.

Most teams playing this weekend have already submitted their initial depth charts, so we at least have a guide for what to expect in terms of personnel deployment for those programs. However, the dozens of teams that will be opening their seasons in Week 1 still have major questions around who is going to get the most run among the team's skill players. This is especially important at wide receiver, since most teams deploy 3-WR sets with at least one, and usually two, of those starting spots up for grabs thanks to graduation and portal defections. The more you get into the weeds and research as many of the 68 Power Four team depth charts as you can unearth, the less likely you will be to blow picks in your upcoming drafts.
A phrase I like to reappropriate from the political realm is "All College Football Is Local." When depth charts are not available for key teams, you will need to rely on reputable beat writers who convey actionable information. This is a slippery slope nowadays, however, as many beat writers serve to protect the programs they cover, and curry favor in the process, as opposed to unveiling potentially sensitive information that might alienate them. Oftentimes their allegiances are to the program they've poured their hearts into for most of their adult lives, as opposed to providing us with the granular insider details of what's happening within their local program. Message board rumors can be insightful at times, as people love gossiping about their favorite teams, but tread lightly when relying on unattributed anonymous reports on the ol' internet.
The NFL injury rumor mill is so suffocating that we were subjected to a full news cycle speculating about the Raiders' prayer circle after Ashton Jeanty sprained his ankle in practice. There isn't an apple-to-apples comparison for CFB because often we don't have a clear picture on injuries until the first games kick off. Compounding matters is the lack of a uniform injury report like we see in the NFL, making injury obfuscation and subterfuge a routine occurrence in college. It never hurts to toss a player's name into the Google machine to check for recent reports before taking the plunge on a player.
