"HC Ben Johnson says Caleb Williams told him about advice he got from Drew Brees, who called the game for FOX: the difference between a 60% and 70% completion rate is 3 more completions per game. 'That might've stuck with our guy a little bit,' Johnson said with a smile."
Williams hit on 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards and two scores as the Bears humbled the Panthers, 59-37.

Week 1 was a great reminder of why we all love fantasy football.

At running back, two Bears finished inside the top-10 while Christian McCaffrey was out-carried by a rookie. With a lopsided score like that, it would seem ridiculous for someone from the winning team to compliment that losing team on their defense. But, that's exactly what Williams did after the game.
Following the matchup, Carolina Sports Live shared a video clip of the post-game exchange between Williams and Panthers head coach Dave Canales. "Y'all are a great defense, man," Williams said. For real?
Because it seemed so crazy for Williams to compliment the team's defense after the Panthers lost so badly to the Bears, some speculated that he was trolling the coach. That would not be very sportsmanlike, but this is the NFL, and people don't always play nice.

Jalen **** er gave Carolina Panthers fans a scare after his monster Week 1 performance, but his initial injury update sounds encouraging.
Coker told reporters Monday that he rolled his ankle during the first quarter of Sunday's 59-37 loss to the Chicago Bears but expects to practice Wednesday.
That's tremendous news considering **** er somehow played through the injury and proceeded to torch Chicago's secondary.
The third-year receiver caught eight of his nine targets for a career-high 138 yards and two touchdowns, including a 51-yard score from Bryce Young. It was also the first multi-touchdown performance of **** er's career.

Why it Matters: It was the first time since Dec. 22, 2024, that Jefferson had two touchdown receptions in a game. In fact, he had just two TDs all of last season. Last season's struggles caused him to slip in fantasy drafts to the midway portion of the first round, and he could absolutely outplay that. His two scores came with Carson Wentz under center, so we'll have a little bit of cautious optimism to see how he and Kyler Murray (concussion) connect when he's fit to return. SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Orange missed several redzone opportunities, turned the ball over at costly times and committed numerous penalties to undo all of their hard work against the Golden Bears. A game in which the offensive numbers looked far better for Syracuse ended in a Cal 21-18 win when Golden Bears safety Kingston Lopa housed a pick six for the eventual winning score with 4:51 left in the 4th quarter.
Syracuse started the game with the ball, and fireworks showed immediately. Tylik Hill ripped a 55 yard rush on the second play of the game to immediately put the Orange in a goal-to-go situation. Syracuse couldn't convert and settled for a Tripp Woody field goal to open the scoring at 3-0.
Cal set its intentions early by playing in empty sets for much of its first drive. Although the Golden Bears got a first down, impressive pressure from Keyshawn Johnson and Dillan Fontus on 3rd down stalled the first Cal drive before midfield.
Syracuse's second drive saw the return of Justus Ross-Simmons, newly eligible after a long and nervous legal battle. He snagged the first Orange reception of the day, going 22 yards up the right sideline. Shavane Anderson Jr. also started to show that his first week performance wasn't a fluke with a pair of good eight-yard gains to move the chains. The Orange had to punt, however, to end their second drive of the day.
Cal showed more of its pass heavy offense, led by its star quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele. After moving the chains with some good outside passes, JKS finally targeted his top receiver, Ian Strong on a third down play. Syracuse had ****** r Ward instead of Chris Peal covering Strong on this play, but Ward did a great job to force an incompletion and end Cal's second drive.

Following the sudden retirement of veteran center Drew Dalman this offseason, the Chicago Bears wasted no time in making a trade for Garrett Bradbury from the New England Patriots, looking to stabilize the position this season.

NASCAR driver Gary Myers, part of a four-generation legacy in auto racing, died Thursday, Sept. 10, according to a social media post by his son Burt. He was 76.
"Last night I lost my hero," Burt Myers wrote on Facebook. "He fought so hard but was so tired. My daddy is in Heaven and can finally do the things he wanted to do the last several years. Thank God for the times we had. He taught me everything I know. Selfishly I want him here but I know he is much better off now. I miss him so much. I love you Daddy!"
Myers was on the starting line for NASCAR Winston Cup races every year from 1974-78, twice finishing as high as 11th.

A serious team requires serious stats by which they'll be evaluated. Over the last calendar year, the Chicago Bears have become a serious team led by a serious head coach in Ben Johnson and a serious quarterback in Caleb Williams. Which means that the world of ****** ytics in football will be more relevant for them in 2026 than we have perhaps seen in years past.
While not as robust (or widely utilized) as their counterparts in the baseball world, advanced stats have progressively become more relevant for the NFL and its players in recent years. Pro Football Focus is sort of a driver of this increase, and it's here that we begin our journey into this world.
PFF, as it's known colloquially, ****** igns a grade for every action that a player completes on the field. These grades occur on a scale from +2 to -2, with zero representing the average in between the two ends of the spectrum. These grades don't just occur in a vacuum, either. Positional context and the game situation itself are each taken into account as part of where a given play lands on the scale.

Tyrique Stevenson hasn't always had the smoothest tenure with the Chicago Bears. But it's easy to let specific demonstrations of lapses in judgment or other second-year struggles back in 2024 get in the way of the perception of a player that actually improved considerably in 2025.
After grading as the league's 86th-ranked (of 117) cornerback two years ago, Stevenson worked his way up to 50th last season with an overall grade of 64.4 from Pro Football Focus. Much of that, however, was pinned down by a 70th-ranked grade in coverage (59.6), despite an 85.5 run defense grade that had him third at the position. Even that former number was, technically, an improvement from the year prior.
Regardless of Stevenson's upside or limitations (the spectrum of which fans have seen both sides across his three seasons), this is a player obsessed with exactly one thing.

When you're overmatched as the Carolina Panthers may be on Sunday against the Chicago Bears—sometimes, you have to pick your battles. Stopping everything that head coach and play-caller Ben Johnson wants to do offensively simply isn't realistic given the schematic and talent mismatch on that side of the ball.
However, if the Panthers are going to defy the odds and their sorry Week 1 history to pull off a win, they have to find a way to make Chicago's offense one-dimensional. And the quickest way to do that is by shutting down the Bears' ground game, which is led by running back D'Andre Swift.
Last season, Swift led the Bears with 1,087 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Backup Kyle Monangai ranked second with 783 rushing yards to go with five scores on the ground. As a team, Chicago ranked third in the NFL with 144.5 rushing yards per game.
Containing that potent rushing attack will be easier said than done, but it's critical that the Panthers find a way to do so. While defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero will direct the symphony from the sideline, it'll be Pro Bowl inside linebacker Devin Lloyd—who was signed to a three-year, $42 million pact this offseason—who shoulders most of the responsibilities on the field.
Lloyd will likely be the first defender to meet Swift or Monangai once they break past the line of scrimmage, and how well he tackles will play a big role in deciding who wins those matchups.

Caleb Williams has weapons with the versatility and speed to find the end zone early and often in this game. I expect each of the Bears' pass catchers to make a couple of plays. Caleb and Ben Johnson will lean on the pass attack, and big plays will set the tone in this game. Caleb will finish with 300 passing yards on Sunday.
All training camp long, Caleb Williams was finding Colston Loveland. Loveland carved up the Bears' defense every practice, it seemed. The trust is there between the two potential stars. Their connection will be special this season, and I think they will get off to a hot start against Carolina. Loveland will explode for 100 yards receiving in Game 1 and will help Caleb get over 300 yards through the air with ease.
The Bears' passing attack will be lethal on Sunday. Caleb Williams will deliver a top-quarterback-level performance. The run game will be a very big complement to it. This game has a very good chance of being a high-scoring type of game. The Bears' offense will showcase why it had a lot of excitement and high expectations heading into the season. Everyone on the offense has a year under their belt with Ben Johnson. That experience will bode extremely well for the Bears this year. It will be evident in Game 1. I think the Bears will win this game in part due to their offense, and the Bears' offense will finish the week being viewed as the best in the league.

In 2024, he bombed against New Orleans—throwing for 161 yards and two more picks with no touchdowns. Last season, Young wasn't much better against Jacksonville—passing for 154 yards, one score and two picks in a 26-10 defeat.
Young has to shake off whatever it is that has him stumbling out of the gate, and deliver a strong performance if the Panthers are going to have any chance this week.

Texas A&M football's is looking for another 2-0 start under Mike Elko.
Since talking over in College Station, the former Duke head coaco has had really strong Septembers. He's 8-0 in this month, including last week's beatdown.
To open 2026, the Aggies got off to a bit of slow start in before demolishing the Missouri State Bears 50-0. A&M scored just one touchdown on its first four drives. Then, the Aggies flipped the switch. A&M quarterback Marcel Reed threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-30 passing, while the defense forced three fumbles and gave up 67 yards of offense.

The Sun Devils should be a much bigger challenge than the Bears of Conference USA. Head coach Kenny Dillingham has led his alma mater to a 19-8 record over the past two seasons, including a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024. Arizona State began its fourth year under Dillingham by crushing Morgan State 70-7, with quarterback Cutter Boley throwing for 387 yards and six touchdowns on 21-of-27 passing.

Through three weeks of the 2026 high school football season, junior running back Mykheal Smith continuously showed that he was a worthy addition to Burke County after transferring from Richmond Academy in the offseason. He averaged over 100 total yards a night and scored two touchdowns during that span, while also being tasked with playing in the secondary for the Bears at safety.
Heading into a Week 4 matchup versus a Jones County squad that had allowed at least 40 points during the previous three weeks, it seemed like Smith and the Bears were in prime position to put up big numbers en route to a win.
That couldn't be further from what happened. The Greyhounds dominated the Bears in a 35-0 rout on Friday, Sept. 11. On offense they got whatever they wanted, particularly when it came to their rushing attack. Defensively, they forced four fumbles that were recovered and led to scores. The turnovers in particular will be a point of emphasis going forward for Burke County.
"It's one of those things where we just didn't get it done in terms of taking care of the football," Bears head coach Franklin Stephens said. "It's one of those things we've been stressing, especially after two weeks ago when we had a bunch of turnovers and fumbles."
Even beyond the turnover problems, Burke County didn't have much going when they did have the football. Outside of a near 30-yard punt return for Smith, he was relatively quiet on the night ― as was the rest of the offense.

The facility bears interest at an annual rate equal to the greater of 3% or the one-month Secured Overnight Financing Rate, plus 6.15%, payable monthly. The formula sets a 9.15% minimum. Applying that floor to the initial borrowing produces approximately $6.9 million of article-calculated annual interest before commitment, administrative, undrawn-amount, and facility fees.
