The 2026 home campaign for the Salt Lake Bees (24-44/63-79) came to a close this week as they welcomed the Round Rock Express (Triple-A, Texas Rangers). Known as the "E-Train," the Lone Star side steamrolled their way to a dominant series victory, winning five of six. Outside of a 11-1 thrashing on Thursday, the Bees never held a lead in the other five contests. The Express (38-31/69-75) collected their first road series win in Salt Lake since 2021, when they swept the Bees in a six-game set.
Despite a quality start from Bees starter Ryan Costeiu, Round Rock earned a 5-1 series opening victory on Tuesday. The visitors scored in four different frames, while Niko Kavadas helped Salt Lake avoid a shutout with a fifth-inning solo blast. Wednesday was more of the same, as the Express tallied a 6-1 victory. MLB rehabber Josh Jung punctuated the win with a solo blast in the eighth, as the Bees were held to just a trio of hits for the second straight game.
As mentioned above, the Salt Lake bats came alive on Thursday with an 11-1 rout. The team tied their season-high with four homers, spotlighted by Kavadas' second multi-homer night of the campaign. The infielder's surge was part of a four-hit night, his first at any level since 2022. On the mound, Joel Hurtado turned in 6.2 innings of one-run ball, finally collecting his first Triple-A win in his eighth try. After falling behind 5-0 on Friday, the Bees nearly completed a comeback, coming up just short in a 5-4 defeat. Salt Lake got the winning run on base in the ninth, but ultimately fell short.
The final Saturday and Sunday at home in 2026 were near carbon copies of each other. Big first innings for Round Rock put them in the driver's seat, leading 6-0 and 4-0, respectively. Saturday's output was more than enough for the visitors as they added seven more runs over the course of the game to shutout the Bees 13-0. On Sunday's home finale, Salt Lake battled and answered every time the Express scored. They closed the gap to 6-4 before Round Rock gained some length with Aaron Zavala's two-run blast in the sixth, the only longball of the evening. The Bees did not go down without a fight, bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth. A flyball was tracked down for the 27th and final out of the finale, completing the Express' 9-6 victory.
The 74th and final home game saw 7,853 fans come through the turnstiles of The Ballpark at America First Square — the largest crowd in ballpark history. Salt Lake finished 35-39 at home this season, winning or splitting nine of their 13 total home series. The Bees were victorious in at least one game against every opponent who came to South Jordan, avoiding a sweep for the second straight season as the hosts.

The NFL is back, and with that comes exciting upsets like the Arizona Cardinals winning over the Los Angeles Chargers, as well as the New York Giants pulling out a rare win at home to open the season against the Dallas Cowboys. The Raiders also made a statement against the Miami Dolphins. Still, injuries are a reality in football as usual, so Let's take a look at some of the notable names who have been injured during Week One and who could show up on the report Wednesday.
Baltimore Ravens WR Zay Flowers (Hamstring) & Ja'Kobi Lane (Wrist)
Zay Flowers left the game against the Indianapolis Colts with an injury on Sunday (Hamstring). Before exiting, he caught five passes for 150 yards and a touchdown. NFL Network NFL insider Ian Rapoport has since reported that the injury may not be considered serious, and Flowers will undergo an MRI for further evaluation.
Rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane has reportedly suffered a broken wrist and could miss several weeks of the season.

Now that football season has returned, so has the season of tracking the sizes of the TV audiences for football games.
The first of 283 games that count in the 2026 season — a Super Bowl LX rematch between the Patriots and Seahawks — averaged 25.1 million viewers.
The good news is that the season-opening game has exceeded 25 million viewers for four straight years, matching the same run from 2013 through 2016. The bad news is that, via Manny Soloway of Awful Announcing, the number fell 12 percent from last year's 28.3 million who watched the Eagles host the Cowboys, and it was the lowest since 2022.
It's fair to wonder whether the dip had anything to do with the season starting on a Wednesday. The last Wednesday night Week 1 kickoff game happened in 2012, with the Cowboys-Giants game generating 23.9 million viewers. In contrast, the Thursday night opener the prior year, between the Saints and Packers, drew 27.2 million.
That's odd, to say the least. The Cowboys were (and still are) the Cowboys. And the Giants — in the nation's top media market — had just won the Super Bowl. It's lower number than would have been expected, and it could have had something to do with Wednesday vs. Thursday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars received a scare involving one of their most important offensive players during Sunday's NFL Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns. Brian Thomas Jr. left the game in the second quarter with a shoulder injury and initially was listed as questionable to return, creating immediate concern for a Jacksonville offense that had already jumped out to a big lead.
Fortunately, the latest update is much more encouraging than it initially appeared, and the Jaguars came away with a 34-10 victory over Cleveland.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (7) catches a pass during the first day of NFL Training Camp at the Miller Electric Center on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Thomas headed to the locker room with Jacksonville's medical staff after apparently injuring his shoulder. The Jaguars announced that he was questionable to return, and he had already made an impact before leaving, catching all three of his targets for 40 yards.

Prince Harry might be back in the UK, but that doesn't mean he's returned to royal duties. In fact, both Harry and his father, King Charles, have made it clear that he is not a working royal and likely won't ever be again. Proof of that is that Harry was not invited to the funeral of Norway's King Harald.
William represented the British royal family and walked behind the monarch's coffin on Wednesday, September 9. He was accompanied by Princess Anne for the procession, which extended from the Royal Palace to Oslo Cathedral. Other foreign royals present included King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, as well as King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden and King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark.

DOONBEG, Ireland, Sept 13 (Reuters) - No country should have lower interest rates than the U.S., President Donald Trump said on Sunday, days before the Federal Reserve's next policy meeting.
Speaking to reporters at the Irish Open golf tournament, Trump said he did not know whether Fed policymakers will raise interest rates at their meeting this week. But he said the U.S. "should be paying the lowest interest rate in the world" no matter what the Federal Reserve's data indicates about inflation and the economy.
The Labor Department's Consumer Price Index, a key measure of underlying inflation, on Friday posted its largest increase in four months. That reinforced expectations that the U.S. central bank will raise the target range for its federal funds rate, now at 3.5% to 3.75%, at the conclusion of its Federal Open Market Committee meeting on Wednesday.
Price pressures remain elevated as the economy deals with Trump's import tax increases and surging energy prices tied to the Iran war. Many at the Fed worry that the longer inflation remains high, the greater the cost will be to get it back to target.

Kylie Jenner has officially sold her longtime Hidden Hills mansion for $15.3 million. The 29-year-old multi-million-dollar beauty brand founder originally wanted $20.25 million for the property, but the final deal came after a series of price changes. The sale also comes as Jenner works on a new dream home nearby.
As per TMZ, the sale was completed on Friday, Sept. 11, according to property records. Jenner first put the mansion on the market for $20.25 million in March. A month later, the asking price dropped by $2.3 million to $17.99 million before the property eventually sold for $15.3 million.
The home had already entered a pending sale status by Wednesday, Sept. 2. However, the final price came in about $2.7 million below the reduced asking price and nearly $5 million under the original listing price.
Jenner bought the property for $12.05 million in late 2016 when she was 19. The sprawling estate covers more than 13,000 square feet and sits on a private 1.4-acre lot.
The eight-bedroom home features a private theater, game room with a wet bar, office with a fireplace, gym and massage room. The property also includes eight full bathrooms, along with an attached guest residence that has its own entrance, bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, sitting area and courtyard.

The Justice Department's push to pursue a sweeping conspiracy probe into former officials behind investigations targeting President Donald Trump has descended into turmoil and possibly new delays following the abrupt resignation of the top prosecutor overseeing the probe.
Joe diGenova, the Washington lawyer and former top prosecutor leading the South Florida-based investigation, resigned a day after a tense phone call Wednesday with Attorney General Todd Blanche, according to two people familiar with the matter. The final clash centered on diGenova's effort to block lawyers dispatched by Justice Department headquarters from ***** isting the probe, following broader disagreements with top Justice officials over its pace.
Among the disputes that added to tensions between diGenova and his bosses in Washington was diGenova's request for a high-security room known as a SCIF to be built at the Fort Pierce office, to make it easier for the prosecution team to store highly classified materials, two people familiar with the investigation told CNN. The team worked in an office with a special room where sensitive, but not the highest-classified, evidence could be handled. Justice Department officials told diGenova he and his team should use a SCIF at an FBI office miles away, two people familiar with the investigation told CNN.
DiGenova also pressed for more lawyers for his team. Justice officials pushed back on any claims that he was denied resources, according to two people familiar with the investigation.
For more than a year, Justice Department officials have pushed to bring criminal charges against former CIA director John Brennan, who is accused of making false statements to Congress and has been the subject of the president's ire for years. Since diGenova joined the probe in April, he's chosen to pursue a broader set of charges against several of Trump's political critics — including Brennan — who were involved in investigations of him over the past decade.

Oil prices (BZ=F, CL=F) are solidly back over the $100 per barrel mark. The August payrolls report showed the US economy added three times as many jobs as expected. Consumer pricing data showed "core" pricing ticking up faster than expected.
In other words, the case has grown increasingly strong for the Federal Reserve to issue its first rate hike in three years on Wednesday, as markets price in roughly a 90% probability of a quarter-point hike.
If equity market performance remains true to historical precedent, that could spell an upcoming trough for stocks, Goldman Sachs **** ysts led by Ben Snider wrote over the weekend.
Looking at history, the benchmark S&P 500 (^GSPC) index has seen an average three-month return of negative 2% at the start of a Fed hiking cycle throughout the past few decades, Goldman noted over the weekend.
That's primarily for three reasons.

After days of facing backlash from sports fans for her nearly nude Novig ad, Sydney Sweeney is now facing backlash from proper female athletes, calling on the actress to "do better."
The ad spot, released last Wednesday, sees Sweeney strip down to virtually nothing, strategically covering herself with various pieces of sports equipment. Novig is a new sports trading and betting app, and in the ad, Sweeney notes that Novig is just sports: "No betting on wars or deaths and no politics," she says, "just you, your takes and sports."
"I don't know wtf Sydney Sweeney was doing, but it's 2026," British athlete Lucy Davis wrote in a post to Instagram. "Stop **** ualizing women in sport."
"We've got to always think about those young girls, always," she added in the caption.
The Novig ad criticism comes after the actress' American Eagle jeans ad went viral last year. Many called out the phrasing of "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans" as a play on "genes," and called it a promotion of eugenics.

As I write this on Sunday night, all but one Week 1 game is comfortably in the books, and as is always the case on opening weekend, we encountered a slew of surprises. Some promising, others concerning and many that may have affected our outlook on a player or an offense. We're all doing our best not to overreact to one Sunday (and one Wednesday and one Thursday), but some of these shifting perspectives are bound to have permanent ramifications.

With that in mind, I've compiled the (first) full weekly fantasy football stock report. These are the most notable risers and fallers heading into Week 2.
Ankle sprain, schmankle schprain (sorry, editors). Ashton Jeanty looked incredible on Sunday and had absolutely no limitations on his workload. He handled 23 carries and had six catches, totaling 147 yards while scoring twice through the air. He totaled 74 rushing yards after contact and scored both of his receiving touchdowns from the 13-yard line. Translation? The second-year RB's upside is arguably somewhere in the Christian McCaffrey stratosphere. The one caveat to all of this, of course, is that he did it against the Miami Dolphins. We'll see whether things change in Week 2 against the Chargers. But for now, Jeanty looks fully healthy and completely dominant, and anyone who got him at the "ankle sprain discount" is doing cartwheels.
At just 61% rostered on Yahoo, Jalen ******* er was closer to being a waiver-wire player than a fantasy stud. Not anymore. The third-year wideout led the Panthers with nine targets, eight catches, 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns, finishing as the WR1 overall on Sunday (29.8 fantasy points). He ran the second-most routes on the team (32), behind Tetairoa McMillan (36), and averaged 13.8 air yards per target and 4.31 yards per route run. He made a very strong opening argument to be a 1B to McMillan's 1A this season. And while all of Carolina's numbers were inflated by this barn-burner of a game with Chicago, ******* er had flashed late last year and looks like a legitimate third-year breakout candidate. He'll be among the most-added players on waivers this week (despite starting at 61%) and should be at least a FLEX consideration until further notice.

Good morning. Stocks fell on Monday as oil prices jumped ahead of a key Fed meeting this week.
(BZ=F) crude rose to $109 per barrel, stoking worries of persistent inflation as diesel prices remain above an all-time high of $6 per gallon.
Bond yields remained elevated, with the 10-year Treasury (^TNX) just a few basis points away from the 5% threshold.
The 2-year yield to 4.64%, signaling that markets expect Fed policymakers to raise rates. Investor bets that the Federal Reserve will hike rates on Wednesday stood at 80% on Polymarket.
Here's a check of the markets in the first few minutes of trading, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- LAFC spent the first half of Saturday night looking like a team that had forgotten what was at stake.
Sporting Kansas City came into the match with the worst goal difference in MLS and 58 goals conceded through 23 games, yet it was LAFC that looked overwhelmed for long stretches at Sporting Park. By halftime, Sporting had built a 2-0 lead, and although LAFC fought its way back into the match after the break, a late defensive mistake turned what briefly looked like a comeback into a 3-1 loss.
Marc Dos Santos did not have a complicated explanation for what went wrong.
"The problem is in the first half we stayed in the plane," Dos Santos said. "I think in the first half we were still in LA, maybe very disappointing. We defended far from each other, passive. We didn't win any duels in the first half."
It was a startling opening from an LAFC team that had just set a club record with its 13th clean sheet against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday. Five days later, the Black & Gold were repeatedly exposed by a Sporting attack that had been among the league's least productive.

Jai Opetaia scored a brutal technical knockout win in the ninth round of his cruiserweight clash with Noel Mikaelian on Saturday night, then lined up a potentially massive showdown with pound-for-pound star David Benavidez for Cinco de Mayo next year.
It all went down at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena on the Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn undercard, and provided the sport with something it has lacked — continuity — in a 200-pound division often overlooked in favor of the traditionally more glamorous weight classes that surround it.
Opetaia walked to the ring sweating, as if he'd warmed up with intent to hurt, and he needed no second invitation to land the first punch of the night. He kept his forearms high to thwart Mikaelian's probing punches, throwing single shots in return, mostly to the head and to the body too. But a clash of heads, likely caused by their opposing stances, appeared to open a cut below Opetaia's eye, slowing The Ring champion's momentum.
IS THIS FINALLY GOING TO HAPPEN ⁉️
See y'all next Cinco de Mayo 👀#GarciaBenn pic.twitter.com/rzWlLyVCzN
Whether it was the bruising that had begun to grow, or the loss of his friend and former trainer Louis Meehan, who was shot dead Wednesday in a Sydney suburb, Opetaia seemed momentarily subdued.

Angel investor and All-In Podcast host Jason Calacanis warned that allowing Chinese electric vehicles into the U.S. could devastate domestic automakers even as their low prices attract consumers, reacting to Sen. Elissa Slotkin's (D-Mich.) claim that President Donald Trump could loosen barriers as part of a China deal.
"This would be the end of the US automotive industry — but consumers will love to buy these cars," Calacanis wrote in an X post on Wednesday. He added, "Everywhere I go, from the Middle East to Europe to Mexico, the streets and Uber fleets are filled with dirt-cheap Chinese EVs," calling such U.S. access "a disaster."
