Former Indiana State Sycamore Johnathan Edwards was waived Monday by the Indianapolis Colts.
The move followed the Colts' 41-23 loss at home to Baltimore in Sunday's season opener. Edwards didn't play against the Ravens, and was among six Colts players declared inactive for Week 1. Indianapolis promoted Kenneth Harris from the practice squad prior to the game, with Harris then occupying Edwards' special teams roles.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pound Edwards was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent May 9, 2025.
As a rookie, Edwards played in 14 games (with five starts) and registered 24 tackles (18 solo), three passes defensed and two special teams stops.
Collegiately, Edwards appeared in 45 career games at Tulane (2024) and Indiana State (2021-23) and recorded 124 tackles (86 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, 22 passes defensed and one forced fumble.

The New York Giants are adding former Dallas Cowboys running back Phil Mafah to the practice squad, the team announced Monday.
Following the incredible upset win over the Cowboys to begin the season, the Giants add some depth to the running back room behind Cam Skattebo.
A former seventh-round pick with the Cowboys during the 2025 NFL draft, Mafah has only appeared in one career game since entering the league. He has five carries for 18 rushing yards and a touchdown while adding two receptions on two targets for 11 receiving yards.
The Giants aren't planning to make any major changes to the running back room. While Skattebo will lead the way, there was a clear rotation with Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy Jr in the backfield. Najee Harris was a healthy scratch in Week 1.
In other roster news, the Giants waived wide receiver Dalen Cambre from the roster.

Former Charlotte Hornets forward Taj Gibson announced his retirement Monday after 17 seasons in the NBA. Gibson was recently rostered by the Memphis Grizzlies but was later traded to the New Orleans Pelicans and was subsequently waived. Gibson spent one season with the Hornets, playing in Charlotte during the 2024-25 campaign. In 37 appearances, the former USC forward averaged 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.6 **** ists, 0.2 steals and 0.5 blocks. While with the franchise, Gibson served as a veteran presence and particularly helped recent Hustle Award winner Moussa Diabate in his development.
Throughout his 17-year career, Gibson played 1,012 games, averaging 8.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 0.9 **** ists, 0.5 steals and one block. He made the All-Rookie Team during the 2009-10 season and finished top-10 in Sixth Man of the Year voting three times. Following his retirement, Gibson agreed to join the team that drafted him (Chicago Bulls) as an **** istant coach.

On Monday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs announced two practice squad elevations ahead of the "Monday Night Football" matchup with the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium.
Defensive tackle Marcus Harris and fullback Ben VanSumeren will be available to play against the Broncos.
Harris was a standout during training camp and the preseason, doing enough to make the initial 53-man roster on cutdown weekend before the team waived him the following day. The second-year player from Auburn cleared waivers and returned to the Chiefs' practice squad; the interior lineman wears No. 68, filling in for defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott (IR) as a reserve defensive tackle.
VanSumeren could be the Chiefs' first pure fullback to take the field since Michael Burton in 2022. The fourth-year player entered the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent linebacker from Michigan. Listed at 6 feet 2 inches tall and 258 pounds, VanSumeren switched to the fullback position in 2025, appearing in one game for the Eagles.

Edwards flashed his upside and potential here and there, but he was also quite inconsistent as well. During his rookie season, Edwards allowed 17 completions on 27 targets, giving up almost 15 yards per catch.
In the preseason this summer, things didn't get much better. Edwards allowed a completion rate of 60% on 10 targets, while surrendering a hefty 19.3 yards per catch, with only one pass breakup over two games.

As expected after Atlanta waived him last week, point guard Devin Carter has agreed to terms and will join the Boston Celtics in training camp, reports Michael Scotto of Hoopshype.
Boston has its 15th roster spot open and the cap ****** e to add another player, but Carter also has two-way eligibility. How things go in training camp may determine his status, although the more likely outcome is that he starts the season on a two-way and that contract may convert to a standard one.
Carter, a lottery pick out of Providence, played his two NBA seasons with the Kings (who traded him to Atlanta this summer in a salary dump). Due to a variety of injuries (shoulder, ankle, calf and back), Carter played in 74 games across those two seasons, and last season averaged 8.9 points per game when he did get on the court.
Carter needs to answer two questions in Celtics training camp. First, can he stay healthy and on the court? Second, has he improved his 3-point shooting? Carter has shot 27.4% from beyond the arc in the NBA, and Boston is a 3-point-happy team under Joe Mazzulla, Carter needs to show he can be part of that.

The Dallas Cowboys will have another running back on the active roster to go along with Javonte Williams, Emari Demercado, and Hunter Luepke. They have signed Israel Abanikanda from the practice squad as a counter move to Malik Davis going on injured reserve with a hip injury. Sources indicate it could be season-ending.
Cowboys placed RB Malik Davis on injured reserve and signed RB Israel Abanikanda to their active roster from their practice squad.
Abanikanda first came to the Cowboys last November after spending time with the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, and the Green Bay Packers. In January, he signed to a reserve/future contract before getting waived in August during final roster cuts. However, he was signed to the practice squad the next day.
This gives the Cowboys another option at running back that is fully up to speed on the offense and should be able to contribute if asked. He hasn't had much production with just 70 rushing yards and 43 receiving yards, but team will not ask much of him right away as Demercado should pick up much of the work.

It is unclear why the NFL suspended Thomas.
Thomas, 26, was waived from injured reserve by the 49ers on Aug. 26.
He spent time in the offseason with the Texans before reaching an injury settlement with the team May 20. He signed with the 49ers on Aug. 12.
The Cardinals picked Thomas in the fifth round in 2024, and he played 14 games as a rookie and four last season.

Tress Way has been a member of the Commanders for more than a decade, but it sounds like they're going to have to start planning for life without him.
Way will begin his 13th season with the team on Sunday and he announced on Thursday that he expects it to be his final one as an NFL player.
"I am pretty sure this is gonna be my last season," Way said, via Nicki Jhabvala of TheAthletic.com.
Way joined the Commanders in 2014 after being waived by the Bears and he has appeared in every game for the team over the last 12 years. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2019. He is currently tied for fifth in games played in franchise history and will be No. 3 on the list if he plays in every game this season.

It's been a long time since former Arizona star Aari McDonald played in a WNBA game. That has come to an end with the first-place Minnesota Lynx announcing her signing on Monday afternoon.
McDonald was injured last August while playing for the Indiana Fever. She tried to come back by playing in the Unrivaled 3×3 league during the WNBA offseason, but she was again sidelined by injury. As WNBA training camp approached this year, she said she would not be in camp but she would return this season. It took a while, but now she's not only returning, but she's doing it with the best team in the league.
The Lynx lead the WNBA standings with a 31-9 record and four games left in the regular season. The league returns to play on Sept. 18 after a break for the FIBA Women's World Cup where many top players are representing their countries. That event runs from Sept. 4-13, but the league shut down on Aug. 31.
McDonald sat out a large chunk of last season after being waived by the LA Sparks in training camp. She eventually landed with the Indiana Fever, where she quickly became a fan favorite of the passionate fan base and a fixture in the local community.
She averaged 9.8 points on 42.9 percent shooting, 4.7 **** ists, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in 26.3 minutes per game for Indiana last season. She appeared in 20 games with 13 starts. It was a career high in games started, minutes per game, field goal percentage, **** ists per game, and rebounds per game.

The San Francisco 49ers waived tight end Brayden Willis Saturday to make room for long snapper Jon Weeks on the active roster.
Per the NFL's transaction wire, Willis went unclaimed. Willis showed positional versatility during the preseason, but he was also a 7th-rounder from '23 with as many regular-season receptions since then as you and I.
That means the team can bring him back to the practice squad and potentially elevate him to the active roster for this upcoming week against the Rams. He's expected to practice with the team after re-joining the practice squad, as he did not leave Australia, per Matt Maiocco.
Willis's best chance to contribute offensively is at fullback. During this past preseason, he lined up at fullback 15 times. Kyle Juszczyk recently returned to practice after breaking his finger. If Juszczyk can't perform his usual duties or gets hurt again, Willis is his logical backup — ***** uming the team would have him on the active roster so he can play special teams.
Juszczyk is entering the final year of his two-year contract. He's 35. It makes you wonder if the 49ers want to keep Willis around to take over for Juszczyk if this ends up being Juice's final year as a Niner. In my opinion, Willis offers more out of the backfield than as a tight end. That was likely part of the reason he was waived.

The Seattle Seahawks have made another practice squad change ahead of their Week 1 opener against the New England Patriots, one that is worth monitoring given the uncertainty surrounding the health of Nick Emmanwori.
Veteran safety and special teams contributor D'Anthony Bell was added to Seattle's practice squad on Saturday. Rookie outside linebacker Marvin Jones Jr, who was waived during final roster cuts last weekend, has been released to make room for Bell.
Bell was released by the Seahawks as a vested veteran and thus didn't go through waivers, but it was somewhat surprising to see him not signed to the initial practice squad. He spent most of last season with the Seahawks alternating between practice squad and active roster before he was claimed off waivers in December by the Carolina Panthers. His playing style lends itself to replicating some of Nick Emmanwori's blitzing and work down in the box, so if Emmanwori is unavailable for the Patriots game due to his ongoing ankle surgery recovery, Bell figures to be a candidate to be elevated to the active roster on Wednesday night.

Australian Ben Simmons, who missed last season with nagging back injuries, has agreed on a one-year NBA comeback deal with the Sacramento Kings, according to multiple reports on Friday.

After a busy summer reshaping the entire squad to fit the needs of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, the Los Angeles Lakers spent the recent weeks trying to add Jonathan ****** inga, but the 23-year-old forward chose the Timberwolves instead, signing a two-year, $13.0 million deal while rejecting more money from the Lakers.
This team keeps having the same athletic questions now, as they obviously rebuilt the roster around defense for Luka and Reaves, but they still don't have the young athletic forward they hoped ****** inga could become for them. Matisse Thybulle gives them defense, Quentin Grimes helps on both ends, and Ziaire Williams adds some size, but there is still room for another bigger wing who can guard from guards to forwards.
There is another issue too: the Lakers currently have 16 guaranteed contracts, one more than they can carry into the regular season. So unless somebody gets waived, another move is already coming before Opening Night.
That is why a three-for-two trade makes a lot of sense right now. Instead of simply cutting somebody from the bottom of the roster, the Lakers could use that extra body as part of a bigger deal and still attack the hole ****** inga was supposed to fill.
This three-team mock trade with the Bulls and Grizzlies would do exactly that.

The Baltimore Ravens have officially added cornerback Lardarius Webb Jr. and veteran offensive lineman Chuma Edoga to their practice squad.
Webb returns after being waived during Baltimore's initial roster cuts. Webb earned the opportunity after showing encouraging flashes during training camp and the preseason. He finished Baltimore's preseason finale against the Washington Commanders with two tackles and a forced fumble, strengthening his case for continued development within the organization. His return also continues a notable family connection. Webb's father, Lardarius Webb Sr., spent his entire nine-year NFL career with Baltimore and helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII.
Edoga gives the Ravens a more experienced option along the offensive line. The 29-year-old has appeared in 62 games and made 25 starts across seven NFL seasons. He has experience at both tackle positions and guard, adding valuable versatility behind Baltimore's starters.
Edoga is also familiar with offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford. The two worked together with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, which should help Edoga transition into Baltimore's system.
The two additions continue the Ravens' early-season adjustments as the organization strengthens its developmental secondary and offensive line depth.

The Tennessee ******* ans were awarded three players off waivers on Monday. Among the new additions was cornerback Melvin Smith. The ******* ans also signed safety Terrell Burgess and offensive tackle James Hudson, making five total additions after the initial 53-man roster was set.
Smith entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs last offseason. ******* ans GM Mike Borgonzi was already in Tennessee, meaning he isn't directly connected to Smith through his KC days. It's safe to ******* ume the tendencies he searches for in late-round cornerbacks is still in place with the Chiefs, however.
Smith played 47 total snaps for the Chiefs during this recent preseason period. The former Southern Arkansas standout allowed four receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown, per Pro Football Focus. He also had six tackles.
The ******* ans waived Erick Hallett II to make room for Smith on the 53-man roster. It was a bit surprising, because Hallett played pretty well throughout training camp and the preseason. He has since been re-signed to the practice squad, so at least Borgonzi managed to retain him.
Smith did not play a single regular-season snap for the Chiefs in 2025. He essentially spent his entire rookie campaign on the practice squad. The Chiefs brought in multiple new cornerbacks this offseason, including former ******* ans L'Jarius Sneed and Kristian Fulton. They also drafted multiple corners, including first-round pick Mansoor Delane. That made Smith expendable to them.

Milton served as the backup behind Dak Prescott last season.
Milton completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions during the 2026 preseason.
He has never made an NFL start in two seasons with the Cowboys and New England Patriots, but he has completed 69.8% of his passes for 424 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 66 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries in five games.

A former Carolina Panthers defender has himself a new team.
As announced on Tuesday, the Arizona Cardinals have signed defensive end Jared Harrison-Hunte to their practice squad. The second-year lineman was waived as part of the Panthers' cutdown to their initial 53-man roster on Sunday.
Carolina signed Harrison-Hunte as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2025, after his lone year at Southern Methodist University. The 6-foot-4, 294-pounder amassed 42 combined tackles (8.5 for a loss) and 6.5 sacks for the Mustangs en route to a first-team All-ACC selection.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the offseason determined to create more competition and depth along the edge. After watching Jack Pyburn throughout the preseason, they may eventually wonder whether they let one of their more intriguing young pass rushers get away too soon.
Tampa Bay waived Pyburn as part of its final roster cuts despite the undrafted rookie putting together one of the strongest preseasons on the team. Pyburn finished with four sacks, including two against the New York Jets and another two in the preseason finale against Jacksonville. His four sacks were tied for the most among edge defenders during the preseason. A numbers problem was always going to exist. The Buccaneers spent significant resources rebuilding the position, adding first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. and veteran Al-Quadin Muhammad to a group that already included Yaya Diaby, David Walker and Anthony Nelson. With only so many roster spots available, Tampa Bay was eventually going to have to make a difficult decision. The gamble was likely that he would clear waivers and potentially remain available to the organization. Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs claimed him almost immediately, placing Pyburn on their 53-man roster and preventing Tampa Bay from bringing him back.
Preseason sacks don't automatically translate to the regular season, and Pyburn was often working against backups. Still, he did exactly what a young player is supposed to do with limited opportunities. Todd Bowles praised his work ethic and production after his two sack performance against New York, noting that Pyburn had taken advantage of the opportunities he received despite being buried behind a deep group of edge rushers, as Pyburn has a 21.4 percent pass rush productivity rate on true pass sets and a 23.8 percent win rate during the preseason.
The Buccaneers couldn't keep every promising edge defender, and their revamped group should be significantly deeper than it was a year ago. But if injuries strike or Pyburn develops into a contributor for Kansas City, this move will become much harder to defend. Tampa Bay spent the offseason searching for young players who could get after the quarterback. Pyburn showed legitimate signs of being one of them, and now the Buccaneers won't get the chance to find out what he could have become in their defense.

The Philadelphia Eagles finalized their initial 53-man roster by making more than 30 transactions, then used the practice squad to retain several developmental prospects and experienced reserves.
Philadelphia placed cornerback Jakorian Bennett and tight end Grant Calcaterra on injured reserve with designations to return Aug. 30. Both players had to make the initial roster before being moved to preserve their eligibility to return during the regular season.
The Eagles released 10 vested veterans who were not required to pass through waivers: linebacker Chance Campbell, wide receivers Britain Covey, Danny Gray and Quez Watkins, outside linebacker Tarron Jackson, guard Michael Jordan, running back Dameon Pierce, tight end Stone Smartt and cornerbacks Ambry Thomas and Shaun Wade.

The Baltimore Ravens completed a significant roster transformation over the past four days, reducing their offseason group to 53 players and constructing a practice squad before turning their attention toward the September 13 season opener against the Colts. Baltimore began preparing for the deadline on August 26 by placing center Danny Pinter on injured reserve. Pinter suffered a torn patellar tendon during a joint practice with Minnesota. The Ravens also waived linebacker Reid Williford with an injury settlement.
The largest wave of moves arrived August 30. Baltimore placed cornerback Bilhal Kone and running back Adam Randall on injured reserve with designations to return. Both players counted against the initial 53 before being moved, allowing them to return after missing at least four regular-season games.
The Ravens then released five vested veterans: wide receiver Chris Moore, cornerback Amani Oruwariye, offensive tackle David Sharpe, safety K'Von Wallace and running back Jonathan Ward. Unlike players with fewer than four accrued seasons, those veterans immediately became free agents.
