Paul George will enter the new season playing for a new organization after the Philadelphia 76ers traded him to the Boston Celtics. A team that, according to him, has helped him rediscover the love he has for the game of basketball.
Naturally, the 9-time All-Star's statement about his new team drew several reactions from fans.
This upcoming 2026-27 season will be George's 17th year in the NBA. His trade to the Celtics this past offseason marked an end to a two-year stint with the Sixers. For the veteran forward, though, it was more than just a move to a new team. It might have helped him fall back in love with basketball.
George shared his thoughts and feelings about joining the Celtics with Gary Washburn of the "Boston Globe."
In Washburn's article, he quoted George saying that he "would love to be able to call Boston home."

Girona lost 1-2 against Castellón at Montilivi in a match they had under control but let slip away in the final stretch. The Girona team took an early lead but ended up paying a high price for playing with ten men for more than half an hour.
Quique Álvarez's team started with determination and found their reward in the 7th minute. Zamorano capitalized on a rebound from the visiting goalkeeper to score a volley and make it 1-0. Shortly after, however, Bryan Gil had to leave the field due to muscle discomfort, a setback that disrupted the home team's plans.
Girona held off the advances of a Castellón side that gradually gained ground but managed to reach halftime in the lead. In the second half, the match definitively turned when Abel Ruiz received a second yellow card, leaving the team with ten players.
With a numerical advantage, Castellón increasingly dominated Girona, who defended their lead as best they could. However, their resistance crumbled in the final moments. Sienra scored the 1-1 in the 85th minute, and just five minutes later, Álvaro García completed the comeback with the 1-2.
Girona tried until the end but could not find the goal that would have allowed them to salvage at least a point. A painful defeat at Montilivi, after a match that Girona had in their hands but ultimately lost due to being a man down and Castellón's late surge.

Today is the day of the first on-ice activity for the Colorado Avalanche in the 2026-27 season. A group of 25 rookies are gathering at Family Sports Center at 9:00 a.m. for a one-day practice before they head off to San Jose, Calif. for the annual rookie tournament.
Late last week the roster was announced which features almost as many defensemen (8) as forwards (13). The only two players with NHL experience expected to attend are forwards Nikita Prishchepov and Taylor Makar, though several others on this list could see their NHL debut soon. All eyes will be on goaltender Ilya Nabokov and forward TJ Hughes who might even make an impact on the Avalanche this year.

Those prospects playing in the NCAA or Europe this season are not listed and were not expected to attend rookie camp or Avalanche training camp. However, it is curious the class headliner, 43rd overall Egor Shilov is missing especially since he has chosen to spend one more year in the QMJHL with Victoriaville. But, there is a clue from those who cover the Canadian junior leagues that ongoing visa issues are to blame.

"I'd like to have five Hall of Famers up there that we're going to sit in there for 15 years and roll," he said Thursday, Sept. 10, in Allen Park.

It's been a long time since former Arizona star Aari McDonald played in a WNBA game. That has come to an end with the first-place Minnesota Lynx announcing her signing on Monday afternoon.
McDonald was injured last August while playing for the Indiana Fever. She tried to come back by playing in the Unrivaled 3×3 league during the WNBA offseason, but she was again sidelined by injury. As WNBA training camp approached this year, she said she would not be in camp but she would return this season. It took a while, but now she's not only returning, but she's doing it with the best team in the league.
The Lynx lead the WNBA standings with a 31-9 record and four games left in the regular season. The league returns to play on Sept. 18 after a break for the FIBA Women's World Cup where many top players are representing their countries. That event runs from Sept. 4-13, but the league shut down on Aug. 31.
McDonald sat out a large chunk of last season after being waived by the LA Sparks in training camp. She eventually landed with the Indiana Fever, where she quickly became a fan favorite of the passionate fan base and a fixture in the local community.
She averaged 9.8 points on 42.9 percent shooting, 4.7 **** ists, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in 26.3 minutes per game for Indiana last season. She appeared in 20 games with 13 starts. It was a career high in games started, minutes per game, field goal percentage, **** ists per game, and rebounds per game.

In the season opener last fall, the Miami Hurricanes knocked off Notre Dame 27-24, in a highly contested battle.
It was a victory that propelled Miami all the way to the College Football Playoff **** le game, where they ultimately fell to Indiana. The Hurricane offense lost elite offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, quarterback Carson Beck, offensive linemen Markel Bell and Anez Cooper along with wide receiver CJ Daniels to the NFL draft. That's a good amount of talent gone from a pretty solid offense, but there are some that believe Miami will be better this fall.
Recently, 247Sports Brad Crawford was asked about the Hurricanes offensive outlook for this season and he thinks it will be the best offense they've had under head coach Mario Cristobal. He'd go on to say "I think this is the best transfer quarterback Miami has gotten … Darian Mensah, I think he should be the preseason Heisman frontrunner."
Crawford is high on the running backs and wide receivers, but one area where he's a bit concerned is on offensive line. "Maybe if there's one question Miami has … that would be it," as he noted the addition of 5-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell.
This game has been circled on Notre Dame's schedule since the heartbreaking loss last year, and revenge would be sweet. The Irish defense should be one of the best in the country, and should be able to neutralize the Hurricane attack.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona consider their transfer window closed, in terms of incoming, following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus earlier today.

Brooks Koepka's first season back on the PGA Tour has turned into something of an anticlimax, with the five-time major champion's year described as the biggest disappointment.
Koepka was one of the game's most talked-about players heading into 2026. The 36-year-old became the first big name to walk away from LIV Golf at the end of last season.
The PGA Tour created a pathway for Koepka to make an immediate return under certain conditions, including that he would have to earn his way into signature events as he could not be invited.

Alker made four consecutive birdies on the back nine en route to a final-round 4-under 68 to hold off a big-name leaderboard and run away with The Ally Challenge crown at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club on Sunday, Aug. 30. It was Alker's 13th victory on the 50-and-older PGA Tour Champions tour — including his third this season and his second in as many weeks.
Alker, 55, from New Zealand, took sole possession of the lead with a birdie at the par-4 12th hole, then expanded it with a two-putt birdie at the par-5 13th hole, as Michael Block, the one-time viral sensation, made bogey.
"Perfect number," Alker said of his second-shot, 3-wood approach from 245 yards into the 13th hole, where the momentum really swung to his corner. "Worked out well."
Alker made birdies at Nos. 14 and 15 (the latter on a 60-foot putt), too, as he seized yet another ****** le and bolstered his standing in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup points race, which he's won twice before. "Andy Reid has always seemed to struggle with his running backs, but I think he has a chance to finally break that trend with Walker. Given that Patrick Mahomes is returning from a serious knee injury on a seemingly rushed timeline, it seems likely that Reid will commit to a more straightforward North-South running game with Walker in the backfield. Plays that don't require any complex footwork or extra movement from the quarterback. It also seems probable that Reid will turn away from some of the run-pass option action that has characterized Chiefs football for so long now. Ultimately, the acquisition of Walker is a hedge against Mahomes' injury and Kansas City's ability (or inability, as it were) to establish a viable air attack in the two-time MVP's absence."

The Basketball Hall of Famer defended the Indiana Fever guard during an appearance on Michael Smerconish's SiriusXM program, arguing Cunningham faced unfair criticism after publicly sharing her position on the issue.
"I can't believe people got mad at her for telling the truth," Barkley said. "She said, 'I'm protecting girls.'"
Barkley then used an outdated term while paraphrasing Cunningham's position. Cunningham did not use that language in her original comments. The Fever guard told ESPN in July that she did not believe "biological men" should compete in women's sports. Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes threw strikes, got a couple of outs and then threw a little more in the bullpen. It was, he said, a good first step. He hopes that after one more, he might be ready to make his long-awaited return.

Burnes' fastball was mostly in the low-90s, topping at 93 mph.
"It was good," Burnes said. "Came out and threw strikes. Did what I needed to do. The misses we had were right around the zone. That was kind of my whole goal coming back was to make sure we're filling up the strike zone and being around it. Give ourselves a chance to get outs. From the look of it, shapes, everything was pretty good there."

Joe Burrow is manifesting a Super Bowl season for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Following joint practice with the Chicago Bears on Aug. 20, Burrow spoke honestly about his feelings and expectations for the upcoming season, including why he hasn't shied away from publicly sharing his high expectations for his team this year.
"I'm trying to put it out in the world; I'm trying to manifest it," Burrow said. The Giants star wide receiver practiced for a second straight day. This was a lighter day for Nabers after he took seven team reps on Monday, his first of the summer as he works to return from a torn ACL.
Nabers, again in a red jersey, was in shells while the rest of his teammates practiced in full pads. He did take a couple of team reps. He caught a long pass from Jaxson Dart in 7-on-7, a play where it was clear defensive backs Tyler Nubin and Jevon Holland understood that they were not to hit Nabers. In real game action, the two defensive backs could have laid a big hit on the wide receiver.
Head coach John Harbaugh said Nabers will need to "get ****** ped around and hit and fronted up" in practice before the Giants consider playing him in a game. The Giants aren't ready for that to happen yet.
Cornerback Colton Hood (unknown), wide receiver Jalin Hyatt (ankle/leg), and defensive tackle Josh Tupou and Bobby Jamison-Travis (both unknown) did not practice.

Joey Veerman was born on November 19, 1998, in Purmerend in the Dutch province of North Holland. He completed nearly his entire soccer training at FC Volendam, where he also made his professional debut at the age of 17. It became clear early on that the midfielder had something special. In his first three years, he quickly established himself as a regular starter at Volendam and tallied 22 points in 81 competitive matches.
In 2019, Veerman left his hometown club and the team where he had developed his skills, making the move to SC Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie. There, he established himself as the playmaker in central midfield. In his first season at Heerenveen, he recorded nine direct goal contributions in the Netherlands' top division; the following season, that number had already risen to 17.
In January 2022, he finally moved on to top-tier club PSV Eindhoven, where Joey Veerman would go on to make his breakthrough on the international stage as well. Roger Schmidt, PSV's head coach at the time, spoke highly of Veerman: "He always has good ideas, makes good decisions under pressure, and always looks ahead."
In Eindhoven, too, it didn't take Veerman long to establish himself. His ability to accelerate the play from deep, outwit opposing defenses with precise passes, and set up attacks with a single touch was a perfect fit for Eindhoven's dominant style of soccer. Under former BVB coach Peter Bosz, at the latest, he became a true game-changer at PSV.
In February and March 2024, Veerman took the field twice with PSV against Borussia Dortmund when the two teams faced off in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. In total, Veerman has played 44 times in European competition so far.

The days of recruiting an elite group of players and developing them over the course of a few seasons are mostly gone in college football. There are still a few teams that operate that way, but building through the transfer portal is more of a viable option than it's ever been before.
Penn State will be one of those teams this season, with more than 20 transfers on the roster from Iowa State alone. At least one player in that group is bound to have a massive impact, and USA TODAY's Austin Curtright believes it will be quarterback Rocco Becht.
Curtright listed 10 of the most impactful transfers in the Big Ten, and while he didn't rank them numerically, Becht was placed among some heavy hitters. He became one of the most decorated passers in Cyclones history — finishing top-three in passing yards and touchdowns — and hopes that success will translate to a more talented conference.
Becht will have a familiar supporting cast with the Nittany Lions, which should help ease the transition. Wide receivers Chase Sowell and Brett Eskildsen, tight end Benjamin Brahmer, and running back Carson Hansen came over from Iowa State as well as coach Matt Campbell, so there should be a level of cohesion offensively.
Penn State has a lot of belief in Becht, and it sounds like Curtright does too. Becht has a chance to do big things with this team if he plays to the standard he set while with the Cyclones.
