Bayern Munich are hoping the arrival of Nathaniel Brown will motivate Alphonso Davies to return to his best form, according to Sport1.
A club source told the outlet: "Thankfully, the competition for places here is brutal."
The Bayern hierarchy reportedly expects Davies to respond positively to the increased competition and consistently improve his performances, provided he can stay injury-free.
Although the Bundesliga champions would be prepared to listen to exceptional offers for the Canadian this summer, Sport1 reports that a departure currently appears unlikely.
Instead, Bayern expect Davies to remain at the club and use the added competition from Brown as an opportunity to prove his critics wrong with consistent displays throughout the season.

Weird things happen when the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres get together, and tonight's game was one of many such occasions in the history of this rivalry. The first of two in San Diego had it all. Terrible defense, many different pitchers, chair interference, multiple ejections from the Padres' bench—including manager Craig Stammen—and finally a walk-off loss after more than three hours.
"We all kept going," manager Warren Schaeffer **** sed after the game. "Back and forth ballgame, really good big-league ballgame in terms of back-and-forth. Some big offensive moments. Two big at-bats for [Ezequiel Tovar] today. Big homer from [Mickey Moniak], Willi [Castro] — a couple of good walks from Willi, and Cole [Carrigg] just moving the line.
"Scoring 7 runs on the road, that's pretty good," he continued. "[We] scored against their bullpen a little bit, it's a really good bullpen. But then on the other side of the ball, we had four errors. Errors and walks, walks and errors. You're not going to win in the big leagues if you walk guys, especially late in the game and then you make errors in big moments."
Right-handed starter Michael Lorenzen was the first of many pitchers utilized by the Rockies in tonight's… let's call it "interesting" affair against the Padres. Lorenzen, despite a string of solid starts in recent memory, was looking to rebound after getting hammered hard by the Washington Nationals his last time out.
Instead, Lorenzen gave up a lot of contact in an inefficient start. He threw 93 pitches in just four innings while also giving up eight hits with a walk and only two strikeouts.

However, a turbulent inning by right-hander Ryan Thompson allowed Pittsburgh to cut the lead in half heading into the ninth. Instead of a comfortable win, it became a save opportunity for Sewald — and it wasn't his night.
A two-run homer followed by a solo shot tied the game, marking the closer's third blown save of the season. He eventually recorded one out before being pulled as the game went into extra innings.

The Indiana Fever defeated the Seattle Storm 105-95 on Tuesday night in the first night of regular-season action for the WNBA after the All-Star break. However, instead of the Fever's three-game winning streak entering the game, a lot of the coverage surrounding the Fever was on comments reserve guard Sophie Cunningham made regarding transgender athletes.
"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" Cunningham said via a profile on her published by ESPN. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
Cunningham's words became a hot-topic issue, with people weighing in from all over the media, intense debates being had online, and even rallies being planned.
After the game, WNBA reporter Roberta Rodrigues, who rebuked Cunningham's comments and the rally tied to them on social media, asked head coach Stephanie White, who is married to journalist Lisa Salters, about the situation.
"Coach, there was a rally before the game, an anti-trans rally before the game, inspired by Sophie Cunningham," Rodrigues started. "As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, how did you receive her comments and the way it ignited the right-wing and anti-trans supporters? And for the players, have you had conversations in the locker room about it?"

The San Diego Padres stumbled out of the All-Star break dropping back-to-back series on the road to the Kansas City Royals and the Atlanta Braves. Each loss, four in all, seemed to be another nail in the coffin on the 2026 season. The Padres limped into their final series of the road trip against the Miami Marlins with their season seemingly hanging in the balance. Anything less than a winning series would have surely resulted in the team looking to offload expiring contracts at the deadline relegating the remaining players on the roster to play out the string of games before heading to the offseason.
The Padres had other plans and instead of just winning the series against the Marlins, they swept the team from South Beach and handed them their 12th consecutive loss. San Diego had a thrilling win in the third and final game of the series that saw the Padres enter the eighth inning trailing by two runs. Manny Machado hit a two-run home run to tie the game and two batters later, Jackson Merrill connected on a solo home run to put San Diego in the lead. Luis Campusano later added an RBI-single in the inning and the Friar Faithful got a glimpse of what the Padres could be — and were expected to be.

Well, this one was a dud. Coming off a series sweep of the Cleveland Guardians, the Tampa Bay Rays' offense remained quiet at the plate and dropped the opener to the Texas Rangers by a score of 4-1.
Griffin Jax got the start for the Rays and was serviceable, allowing just a pair of runs over 5.2 innings of work. He punched out ten, walked three, and allowed five hits. Only one of the two runs he allowed was earned. The effort should have been enough to earn his seventh win of the season. Instead, he left with his eighth loss of the year.
The real story of the night was the Rays offense, or lack thereof. Outside of Aranda and Caminero, who each tallied a pair of hits, the rest of the lineup mustered just one hit. Cal Quantrill held the Rays to just one run an two hits over 5.1 innings of work. He punched out seven and walked just one.
Trailing 2-0, the Rays did threaten in the bottom of the fourth and for a brief moment it looked as if they were poised to take the lead and potentially send Cal Quantrill to the showers early. After a leadoff strikeout by Yandy Diaz, who's struggles at the plate continued Tuesday night, Jonathan Aranda singled and later advance to third on a double by Caminero. Mullins then reached on catcher's interference to load the bases for Chandler Simpson. Then, shockingly, Simpson found a way to hit into a groundball double play as he slapped a groundball right back to Quantrill who quickly threw home to start a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.

Approximately 2.6 million Americans discontinued ACA marketplace coverage this year after increased pandemic-era subsidies ended at the end of 2025, with health policy experts predicting that total enrollment would decrease to between 16.5 million and 17.5 million by year-end. Meanwhile, the Urban Institute has projected that 4.8 million more people will be uninsured in 2026 as a direct consequence of the lapsed subsidies, with certain HealthCare.gov-reliant states witnessing enrollment losses of 20% or more.
Whether this translates into fewer elective medical treatments is now a hotly debated topic in the healthcare industry, with Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISRG) emerging as the evident casualty. The company's shares plunged more than 12% before the bell on July 17, despite Intuitive maintaining its global procedure-growth prediction for its da Vinci surgical robots. Instead, the selloff was driven by the company's own admission that changes in insurance coverage could impact demand.
US da Vinci procedure growth slowed to roughly 12% in the second quarter, down from where Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISRG) expected to be at the beginning of the year, with a focus on surgeries that patients may defer. It was always going to be tough for Xavier McKinney to top his first season with the Green Bay Packers, and indeed his second year in green and gold was more understated.
McKinney's eight picks in 2024 were the most by a Packer since Charles Woodson, who had nine back in 2009. Interceptions were harder to come by for Green Bay as a defense in 2025, and for McKinney it was no different.
It would therefore be easy to say his season was a relative disappointment, but the underlying numbers suggest it was anything but.
When looking at McKinney's rankings among eligible safeties in 2025 compared to 2024 in a range of statistics, there is plenty to feel good about from his second season with the Packers.
The lower interception count is notable, with only two in 2025, one of which he should have batted down instead on a fourth down versus the Browns.

LEXINGTON — Pat Biondo is moving on after seven months as Kentucky football's general manager.
Biondo, who followed new coach Will Stein from Oregon, resigned his position Tuesday, July 28.
"After much thought, I have made the decision to leave UK," Biondo said in a statement. "This is a personal move and I hope everyone will respect the private nature of such a tough decision. It has been a privilege to work for a great university, wonderful football program and on behalf of such passionate fans. I especially want to thank Coach Stein for the opportunity to work with and learn from him."
Stein tabbed Biondo as the Wildcats' GM on Dec. 16. The first-year coach did not comment on Biondo's departure in the release announcing the move. Instead, UK Athletics offered a general statement not attributed to a specific individual.
"Football General Manager Pat Biondo has informed us of his decision to step down from his role at UK," the department said. "We respect his choice and the personal considerations behind it. We are grateful for his contributions to our program."

CHICAGO – When the House settlement took effect last year, schools could directly share revenue with athletes with a cap in place. That limit doesn't include third-party NIL deals, though, and roster costs continue to increase in college football.
Speaking Tuesday at Big Ten Media Days, USC coach Lincoln Riley spoke in favor of a "true salary cap" in college sports. While he said the landscape is beginning to stabilize a bit, that would make things even better.

Riley noted the discussions around the state of college sports as the NIL era continues to evolve. He doesn't see the craziness being as much of an issue as others on the outside, though. Instead, he argued things are getting better, though he said a salary cap would further help.
"I've always been one, like, I don't want to have less than somebody has," Riley told reporters at the Hilton Chicago. "But I don't necessarily have to have more. I just don't want to be at some massive, massive disadvantage, if you're trying to win a championship. I will say this, despite the perception outside, it has normalized a lot in the last few years.

Suri Cruise, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally dropped her father's last name and chosen a surname that honors her mother instead, according to a Page Six report.
Rather than adopting Holmes as her last name, Suri opted for Noelle, her mother's middle name. While it's unclear when she officially changed her last name, Page Six reported that she registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pa., under the name Suri Noelle during her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University in October 2024. She first made headlines in June 2024, when she graduated from New York City's LaGuardia High School and was listed as Suri Noelle in the ceremony pamphlet.
The reported name change comes after years of estrangement from Cruise. Following her parents' divorce in 2012, Suri moved from Los Angeles to New York City with Holmes, who was granted full custody, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The Mission: Impossible star was ordered to pay $400,000 annually in child support, plus medical, dental, education and insurance expenses, until Suri turned 18, the outlet reported.
Before moving to Pittsburgh, Pa., Suri, who has often been described as the spitting image of her mother, was frequently spotted out and about in New York City.
"We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests," read a joint statement from Holmes and Cruise following their divorce in 2012. I broke down the 2027 scouting classes in my early summer scouting series, and the room has a ton of potential with a long list of potential standout players. I broke down the offense and defense in articles and I suggest reading those for a broad aspect of the room. Brock Bowers remains an elite tight end, and arguably the best in the NFL, but the Raiders do have some questions behind Bowers after the 2026 season. Former 2nd rounder Michael Mayer is sent to be a free agent, and with a good season he should be looking at a decent contract as a TE2, blocking specialist. Additionally, Ian Thomas is set to be a free agent and Las Vegas also has former UDFA Carter Runyon, who's flashed, but it's likely even with retaining Mayer the Raiders should add another TE.
These rankings are extremely early, and they will evolve over not only the summer but the next 8-10 months throughout the season, and into draft season. Some lists will feature 10, 15, 20, or more ranked prospects but I'll include others on the list below to note.
Jamari Johnson, Oregon – 6'5/260, R-So
Johnson was a key focal point of the Ducks offense last year with 32 receptions, 510 yards, and 3 TD after coming over from Louisville. He's better than Kenyon Sadiq, and in my opinion has a chance to be a better prospect than Bowers. Johnson has absurd movement skills, he's shown exceptional length, fires off the ball, and Johnson also shows a ton of quickness and movement in his route running. Johnson has fluid hips, he makes his cuts well, and Johnson shows an innate ability to adjust to the ball in the air and come down with tough catches. Where he makes a ton of impact is as a run blocker, where Johnson uses his length and athleticism with good technique, and a ton of lower body power to get off the line of scrimmage and into ***** e. Johnson will need to continue his play as the starter at TE, instead of the supplementary piece, but he has the core traits, athleticism, and technique to be a top 10 pick.

The Dallas Cowboys held their annual press conference to start training camp on Tuesday, and the idea of the offseason being free of drama came up a lot at the beginning.
Jerry Jones noted that he liked that perception and then matters turned to what lies ahead instead of what is in the rearview mirror. In a very non-Jerry way, the team's owner, president, and general manager was expressing such confidence in the group set to start out in Oxnard by saying that he would be willing to risk future ****** ets in the name of helping them.
Obviously that is a hint that Jones could orchestrate a trade to help the Cowboys. In fact, he said that he specifically spoke to an NFL team about "something" on Monday. It is worth noting that on Monday it was reported that Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea requested a trade. That could just be coincidence, though.
As this conversation was going on, Jerry was asked why he and the team moved on from the Maxx Crosby situation after Crosby's trade from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens fell through. He thought long and hard and then was pretty pointed.

Lamar Jackson shares the expectations of those who believe the Baltimore Ravens can contend for a Super Bowl. He is no longer interested in discussing those projections without results. Baltimore entered last season widely viewed as one of the NFL's most talented teams. The Ravens instead finished 8-9 and missed the postseason, providing Jackson with a direct response to another offseason of championship predictions.
"We were just 8-9," Jackson said on "The Lounge" podcast. "We were talking about it, but we didn't produce. So why talk about it? We've got to be about it."
Jackson still expects Baltimore to compete for the championship. His focus has shifted toward the daily work required to reach February rather than the destination itself.

More S&P 500 (^GSPC) companies are raising their profit outlooks than cutting them, and the gap is the widest in the Bloomberg Intelligence data that starts in 2011.
Analysts are lifting 2026 and 2027 estimates instead of trimming them, a reversal from the usual midyear markdown.
The beats are loud too.
Through July 22, roughly 93% of the companies that had reported topped estimates, per Fundstrat, against a 78% five-year average — what financial writer Mike Zaccardi called "a whopping 15.5% surprise."

July 28 (Reuters) - Royal Caribbean raised its annual profit forecast on Tuesday after beating quarterly estimates, sending its shares up 5%, ‌even as it factored in a modest hit to bookings due ‌to the travel disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict.
Geopolitical uncertainty linked to the U.S.-Iran conflict has made some travelers wary of booking cruises, hurting demand for certain itineraries and adding to fuel-cost pressures for operators.
Royal Caribbean said bookings for some sailings, including Mediterranean itineraries, have been modestly hit, primarily in the third quarter.
"When ‌you include a cruise plus ⁠the airfare (to get to the ports), it's a little bit more costly (for American consumers)," CEO Jason Liberty said, adding travelers ⁠are either putting off their trips to next year or opting for the Caribbean instead of Europe.

Manchester City have confirmed that Josko Gvardiol has signed a new long-term contract, keeping the Croatia international at the Etihad until at least 2031.
The 24-year-old has agreed a five-year extension, with the club holding the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. Gvardiol becomes the second City defender to commit his future this week, following Abdukodir Khusanov's new deal.
Since joining from RB Leipzig in 2023, Gvardiol has developed into one of City's most important players. Comfortable at both centre-back and left-back, he has made 122 appearances, scored 13 goals and helped the club win six major trophies, including the Premier League and FIFA Club World Cup.
The new contract comes after speculation linking Gvardiol with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Instead, the Croatian has reaffirmed his commitment to City as they continue to reshape their defence following the departures of John Stones and Nathan Aké ahead of the new campaign.

The Seahawks did not draft a pass rusher. Instead, they signed veteran Dante Fowler Jr. to a one-year contract worth just $2.5 million, with additional incentives. Fowler was a late-wave signing for the Seahawks, agreeing to terms with the franchise weeks after the draft on May 11th.
It turns out the Seahawks had been after Fowler for quite some time. The veteran pass rusher recently revealed that Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde attempted to sign Fowler last offseason. That makes sense, considering they worked together in both Atlanta and Dallas.
Fowler decided to re-sign with the Cowboys last offseason. This summer, Durde and Fowler's former teammate DeMarcus Lawrence put on the heavy push to sign him again. This time, Fowler was convinced to join the Seahawks.
Fowler registered just three sacks for the Cowboys in 2025, but had 10.5 sacks for the Washington Commanders in 2024. The 12th-year defensive end will play a rotational role for the Seahawks. Coach Durde believes Fowler has some pass-rushing juice left in the tank.

Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso believes Morgan Rogers has all the qualities needed to make an immediate impact after completing his club-record move from Aston Villa.
The England international joined the Blues in a deal worth £117 million last week but has not travelled on the club's pre-season tour of Australia and South-East Asia after featuring at the World Cup. Rogers is instead expected to report for training at Cobham on 9 August, leaving him just under two weeks to prepare for Chelsea's Premier League opener against Fulham.
Speaking to reporters in Sydney ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers, Alonso said Chelsea targeted Rogers because of his ability to settle quickly and raise the team's level.
"For sure, it's a great signing," Alonso said. "In that position we needed an important player and I'm sure there were not many better options than Morgan Rogers."
"You need players who can have that almost instant impact and I am sure Morgan won't need much time to adapt to the club, to the system, to his team-mates. That was the idea that we wanted, to get a top player and Morgan is one of them."
