Jean Silva may have started slow but his aggression finally came through as he dropped Jose Miguel Delgado and finished with a one-arm rear-naked choke in the Noche UFC main event.
At the start of the fight, Silva just put his fists out and circled the octagon but once he got moving, he was hurting Delgado with a variety of strikes. Finally in the third round, Silva put Delgado against the cage and unloaded a huge shot that dropped his opponent to the canvas.

New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown did indeed suffer a high-ankle sprain on Wednesday night against the Seattle Seahawks. An MRI taken on Thursday confirmed the initial diagnosis and according to a report by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport suggests that the 29-year-old "[is] expected to be out at least four weeks."
A follow-up report by NFL insider Jordan Schultz put the projected recovery time at around 3-6 weeks, with internal discussions whether or not a move to injured reserve will be necessary.
The New England Patriots will be without their No. 1 wide receiver for the foreseeable future. A.J. Brown, who exited Wednesday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the third quarter, is believed to have suffered a high-ankle sprain.
According to a report by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, how much time he will miss will be determined by an MRI on Thursday. X-rays did come back negative for a fracture of the injured right ankle, though.
Brown, 29, joined the Patriots in a trade with the Eagles this offseason. He promptly took on a starting role, and as such was on the field for 31 of New England's first 35 snaps against Seattle. He caught three passes for 26 yards along the way and drew a 34-yard pass interference penalty to set up his team's lone touchdown.

The San Francisco 49ers waived tight end Brayden Willis Saturday to make room for long snapper Jon Weeks on the active roster.
Per the NFL's transaction wire, Willis went unclaimed. Willis showed positional versatility during the preseason, but he was also a 7th-rounder from '23 with as many regular-season receptions since then as you and I.
That means the team can bring him back to the practice squad and potentially elevate him to the active roster for this upcoming week against the Rams. He's expected to practice with the team after re-joining the practice squad, as he did not leave Australia, per Matt Maiocco.
Willis's best chance to contribute offensively is at fullback. During this past preseason, he lined up at fullback 15 times. Kyle Juszczyk recently returned to practice after breaking his finger. If Juszczyk can't perform his usual duties or gets hurt again, Willis is his logical backup — ***** uming the team would have him on the active roster so he can play special teams.
Juszczyk is entering the final year of his two-year contract. He's 35. It makes you wonder if the 49ers want to keep Willis around to take over for Juszczyk if this ends up being Juice's final year as a Niner. In my opinion, Willis offers more out of the backfield than as a tight end. That was likely part of the reason he was waived.

Tennessee football had just won its season opener and new starting quarterback, freshman Faizon Brandon, was greeting his parents in the north end zone of Neyland Stadium. Wide receiver Braylon Staley was right next to Brandon, endorsing the five-star freshman.
"This is the man right here," Staley said.
UT coach Josh Heupel was also pleased with Brandon's debut, but not surprised by anything he saw.
"I don't think he did anything that surprised me," Heupel said after the 56-9 win over Furman on Sept. 5. But for a young player, he managed and stayed within himself extremely well, which is the expectation."

The Baltimore Ravens have officially added cornerback Lardarius Webb Jr. and veteran offensive lineman Chuma Edoga to their practice squad.
Webb returns after being waived during Baltimore's initial roster cuts. Webb earned the opportunity after showing encouraging flashes during training camp and the preseason. He finished Baltimore's preseason finale against the Washington Commanders with two tackles and a forced fumble, strengthening his case for continued development within the organization. His return also continues a notable family connection. Webb's father, Lardarius Webb Sr., spent his entire nine-year NFL career with Baltimore and helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII.
Edoga gives the Ravens a more experienced option along the offensive line. The 29-year-old has appeared in 62 games and made 25 starts across seven NFL seasons. He has experience at both tackle positions and guard, adding valuable versatility behind Baltimore's starters.

Like Punxsutawney Phil, I've roused myself from a long hibernation, emerged from my burrow and, seeing no shadow before me, declared an early end to the offseason. The 2026 season officially kicks off this Saturday with a slate of week 0 games, giving us just enough of a fix before the full college football world swings into motion next week.
It's been a ****** of an offseason already, one that began with Indiana of all programs winning the CFP national championship, perhaps the most unexpected and meteoric rise of a program in all of sports history. Since that January night, we've seen debates over just how big the CFP should be, new eligibility rulings paving the way for erstwhile professional players entering the NCAA transfer portal, and the beginning of the NASCAR-ification of player jerseys, all in a few short months. Lest you should think it's been nothing but arguments and tribalism, we also witnessed a brilliant moment of unity when the entire college football world unite against a single program under the banner that betting on your own team is just a liiiiiiittle bit bad.
The start of a new season is such a palette-cleanser of all the off the field drama so that instead of talking about College Football, we can get back to just talking about college football.

As Mike Dunleavy explained it, at least, his call log is a graveyard. Deals buried six feet under, never to see the light of day. Cold calls, dangling "stuff" - as Dunleavy put it - where the other line eventually died. He tried, at least.
"There's a lot of guys that we really, really value that don't end up getting moved," Dunleavy told reporters earlier in August, "and that's probably because - so do those teams."
Trying, of course, only counts for so much in Stephen Curry's final seasons as an offensive engine. What do they say, after all, about horseshoes and hand grenades? Two months ago, the budding expectation for swaths of Dub Nation was Anthony Davis and LeBron James. Two months later, the stark reality is Brandon Williams and Georges Niang.
With the franchise publicly announcing deals for Williams and Niang, Golden State's 15-man roster is officially set heading into training camp in late September, with little significant movement from the group that finished 37-45 in 2025-26. There are plenty of pinpricks of upside on an aging roster, though, from Williams' potential as a sparkplug to the bullish nature of rookie forward Yaxel Lendenborg.
Several minor roster jostlings are left to play out through the fall, too, before the start of the season on Oct. 21 in Los Angeles. Unless one of Dunleavy's trade propositions zombifies itself and crawls out of its casket, though, the baseline of Steve Kerr's possible rotation options has been set.

The Los Angeles Rams have one more preseason game to figure out who will make their final roster and who will be released. It's a nerve-racking time for any player on the roster bubble, and it's exciting as well. Some players are going to be disappointed as they won't make their team, other players will have their dreams come true.
The Rams have plenty of work to do to figure out their backup quarterback situation, they need to determine the look of their running back room, and more! So much to do, never enough time in the NFL.
To this point, the Rams are 2-0 and are having a nice preseason with Ty Simpson looking solid against the Kansas City Chiefs, and then Stetson Bennett looking confident against the New Orleans Saints. You could make the case that preseason is going exactly as it should for the Rams as their quarterbacks look serviceable, and their depth overall looks like a strength.
Take that all with a grain of salt. It's only preseason, and the Rams want to look good in the regular season, not just the preseason. That aside, take it for what it is. The Rams have looked good in August, and that's all they can do right now.

Let's dive in.
The starters did not play, so penalty issues in the preseason don't mean that will carry over into the regular season. That said, throughout training camp, penalties have persisted. Penalties were also an issue for this Jaguars team last year, with Jacksonville averaging the fourth-most penalties per game.
Penalties make everything more difficult. They put the offense behind the sticks, wipe out big plays, or give an opponent short fields and manageable down and distances.
This isn't anything new, with the Jaguars' Day 3 rookies standing out since they arrived in Jacksonville during offseason programs. But it's getting to the point where, even with a very talented receiver room, finding some opportunities for Cameron and Williams in season may have to be on Liam Coen's to-do list.

Kelsey Mitchell of the Indiana Fever set a WNBA record Thursday night, Aug. 20, by posting her 21st consecutive game with at least 20 points. A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces held the record of 20 straight spanning the 2023-24 seasons.
Mitchell cut off a high screen set by Monique Billings on a sideline out-of-bounds play inbounded by Caitlin Clark, knifed through the paint and sent it off the back of the rim and in off a bounce. She had 21 points at halftime on 6-of-9 shooting, with two 3-point makes, while making all seven free throws. The game was tied at 42.
Coming into Thursday's game, Mitchell averaged 24.3 points per game, second in the league to Wilson, and 44.3% 3-point shooting.
Mitchell's run started on June 20, when she scored 22 points in a win over the Phoenix Mercury. She has had four games of 30 or more points with a high of 37 in a loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Aug. 2. The Fever went 14-6 over the first 20 games of the streak.

Kansas City Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt spoke with Ari Wolfe nd Trent Green during his annual visit to the booth on KSHB during the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams. He opened up about Patrick Mahomes' recovery from knee surgery in the offseason before the start of the 2026 regular season.
"Yeah, Patrick is so special in so many ways, and I think this offseason was a reminder of what a unique person he is and how much he cares about the game of football and the Kansas City Chiefs," said Hunt. "The work that he put in for seven months to get himself ready so that he could be full-go at training camp was really amazing. I know every Chiefs fan, like me, was so excited to hear that not only is he likely to be ready for the regular season, but he's been a full participant at training camp up in St. Joe."
Mahomes was in full uniform and went through his normal pregame routine last Saturday but was ruled out days earlier by head coach Andy Reid.
"Yeah, it sure is fun to see him out here today. I know he's disappointed that he's not playing right now," said Hunt. "Nobody likes to play the game more than Patrick, but I think Andy (Reid) made a good decision."
Mahomes finished the 2025 season with 22 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions in 14 games before the knee injury. He also rushed for 422 yards and five touchdowns.

The Atlanta Falcons have a long and contentious history with Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton, stemming from his 16 years coaching the NFC South-rival New Orleans Saints.
Payton made his return to Atlanta on Friday night and trounced the Falcons in their preseason opener. The Broncos' 27-7 victory over the Falcons was bad enough, but Payton added insult to injury by taking a shot at the lack of fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
"A lot of people dressed up as empty seats today," Payton told a sideline reporter during his halftime interview.
However, Denver's head coach had some nice things to say about the Falcons coaching staff as well. He even praised Atlanta for hiring Matt Ryan as the president of football following Friday's game.
"I like that Matt [Ryan]'s here. I think he's going to do a great job," Payton said. "I know a bunch of the coaches on their staff. I think when you come in and you're turning a program, there is that sense of urgency, and I think that experience these guys have - we know a handful of these coaches... It's good to see Matt, their coaching staff, all those guys."

Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Charley Steiner, who has been in the business for 59 years, called Saturday night's broadcast of the Dodgers-Milwaukee Brewers game "the most meaningful game of my career."
It was the first time that Steiner called all nine innings of a game since Oct. 11, 2023 when the Diamondbacks were the last team to beat the Dodgers in a postseason.
Steiner, who has been battling cancer, began the season broadcasting just three innings in the first game of a home series this season, gradually building up to six innings, and now his first complete game.
