Little more than 20 years after he signed his first contract to be the Commissioner of the National Football League, Roger Goodell has put his name at the bottom of the newest one.
The NFL announced on Sunday afternoon that the league's Compensation Committee has informed the full membership that an agreement has been reached on a four-year extension. Goodell is now under contract through March 31, 2031.
His prior deal would have expired in March 2027. With few if any obvious successors in play, Goodell had plenty of leverage.
In the memo to all owners, a copy of which PFT has obtained, Patriots owner Robert Kraft explained that the Committee "worked closely with an independent third-party compensation consultant and outside counsel to structure a deal that aligns Roger's compensation with the League's long-term interests and success."
The contract ties 95 percent of the total compensation to Goodell's and the league's "performance measured against various metrics and at the discretion of the Compensation Committee."

It's never too early to look ahead at uniform schedules, right?
Last month, the Denver Broncos announced they will wear their alternate navy jerseys when they host the Buffalo Bills at Empower Field at Mile High on Christmas Day in Week 16. That rematch of last season's AFC divisional round playoff game will begin at 2:30 p.m. MT on Netflix.
A few weeks after the Broncos announced their uniform for the Dec. 25 showdown with Buffalo, the Bills announced they will wear their beloved alternate red helmet with white jerseys, light pants and red socks. A fitting look for Christmas Day:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the offseason determined to create more competition and depth along the edge. After watching Jack Pyburn throughout the preseason, they may eventually wonder whether they let one of their more intriguing young pass rushers get away too soon.
Tampa Bay waived Pyburn as part of its final roster cuts despite the undrafted rookie putting together one of the strongest preseasons on the team. Pyburn finished with four sacks, including two against the New York Jets and another two in the preseason finale against Jacksonville. His four sacks were tied for the most among edge defenders during the preseason. A numbers problem was always going to exist. The Buccaneers spent significant resources rebuilding the position, adding first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. and veteran Al-Quadin Muhammad to a group that already included Yaya Diaby, David Walker and Anthony Nelson. With only so many roster spots available, Tampa Bay was eventually going to have to make a difficult decision. The gamble was likely that he would clear waivers and potentially remain available to the organization. Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs claimed him almost immediately, placing Pyburn on their 53-man roster and preventing Tampa Bay from bringing him back.
Preseason sacks don't automatically translate to the regular season, and Pyburn was often working against backups. Still, he did exactly what a young player is supposed to do with limited opportunities. Todd Bowles praised his work ethic and production after his two sack performance against New York, noting that Pyburn had taken advantage of the opportunities he received despite being buried behind a deep group of edge rushers, as Pyburn has a 21.4 percent pass rush productivity rate on true pass sets and a 23.8 percent win rate during the preseason.
The Buccaneers couldn't keep every promising edge defender, and their revamped group should be significantly deeper than it was a year ago. But if injuries strike or Pyburn develops into a contributor for Kansas City, this move will become much harder to defend. Tampa Bay spent the offseason searching for young players who could get after the quarterback. Pyburn showed legitimate signs of being one of them, and now the Buccaneers won't get the chance to find out what he could have become in their defense.

Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Jean-Mattéo Bahoya is set to join Leeds United after the Premier League side moved decisively for the 21-year-old on deadline day. Sky Germany, Sport Bild and The Athletic all report that Leeds entered concrete negotiations with Frankfurt on Tuesday. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano subsequently reports that an agreement has been reached on a loan deal containing a mandatory €30m purchase clause.
The development comes just two days after another proposed move to England collapsed. Get German Football News reported on Sunday that Bahoya had personally rejected a transfer to Hull City despite Frankfurt and the newly-promoted Premier League side having already reached a verbal agreement at club level.
Frankfurt nevertheless remained prepared to negotiate a late departure for the France U21 international. Bahoya joined Eintracht from Angers SCO for approximately €8m in January 2024 and remains under contract through 2029. The winger has since made 78 competitive appearances for the RheinMain club, registering 15 scorer points.
A €30m permanent transfer would consequently leave Frankfurt with a significant profit on a player currently valued at €25m by Transfermarkt.
Bahoya required some time to establish himself after arriving from Angers, but gradually developed into one of Frankfurt's more intriguing young attacking players. The Frenchman spoke about overcoming his difficult initial adjustment to life in Germany last October, crediting Eintracht's French-speaking contingent with helping him settle both on and off the pitch.

HENDERSON, Nev. — According to Little League Baseball, there are more than two million boys and girls from 80 countries playing Little League.

The odds of making it to the championship game of the Little League World Series is approximately 1 percent.

So here's to the 1 percenters, the Paseo Verde Little League of Henderson, Nevada, which defied the odds and made it to the final game of the season in South Williamsport, Pa. Sunday afternoon.

That Paseo Verde was defeated 11-2 by Curaçao shouldn't diminish the accomplishments of the boys and girl that started this improbable journey almost a month ago when it won its District tournament. It would win the Nevada state tourney, then go on and win the Mountain Regional, which is why you saw them in those gold and red uniforms with the lower case "M' on their caps at Lamade Stadium.

And this team was undefeated throughout and even had a 2-0 lead over Curaçao, an island nation of just over 185,000 that loves its baseball. You can see it in the exuberance displayed by its Little Leaguers on the field. They love to play the game as much as our kids from Henderson.

And if you were watching, how could you not marvel at the skill of these teams? So well schooled in fundamentals. So impressive in their mechanics and their IQ of the game. It's nice that elements like laying down a bunt, hitting a cutoff person and understanding the strike zone is not beyond the grasp of an 11- or 12-year-old. Paseo Verde turned six double plays in the LLWS.

Of course, it takes a village, as they say, to pull something like this off. In Little League, everyone is a volunteer. If you've had a kid play, you know the drill. Dads help prepare the fields before coaching. Moms man the snack shack and sit behind home plate keeping score. Grandparents, aunts and uncles keep an eye on the younger brothers and sisters. It's all about the kids, which is as it should be.

Every year, we read stories in the paper or watch a segment on local television of how the parents of the teams in Williamsport have been away from home for weeks, how they've had to take time off from work, how someone has to keep an eye on the house, arrange to get the mail, take care of the family pet. And it's the truth. There's a great deal of sacrifice involved to be part of a kid's summer baseball experience.

Same for the managers and coaches. They have families too and for them, it's no different than their players. Which is why when it ends, it's pretty painful emotionally speaking because you've invested so much in order to try and take it the distance.

But we know kids are resilient. As they return home to Southern Nevada, they'll do so as celebrities, be it at their school, their church or their neighborhood. There's probably going to be a parade for the Paseo Verde team, the United States Little League champions, and it figures to be a fun time. They'll carry memories of this amazing experience that will last a lifetime and 10, 20,

Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes still have a lot of work to do on Liverpool's squad before the transfer window slams shut.
Admittedly, they're now on the cusp of confirming a deal for Bradley Barcola which will instantly improve their attack.
However, the Frenchman can't be the only player that they bring in before deadline day.
There are several areas among their ranks that could still do with upgrading and, without these additions, it's hard to see how the Anfield outfit will do any better than they did last term.
Obviously, Iraola's style of football will probably help get the best out of his current crop of players but, without at least some new additions, it's hard to see how things are going to get any better for the Reds.

For nearly eight rounds, it looked like a foregone conclusion that Moses Itauma was going to defeat Filip Hrgovic and capture the IBF heavyweight world ***** le Saturday inside London's O2 Arena. Doing so would've made Itauma — a 21-year-old prodigy long hailed as a future of boxing's blue-ribbon division — the youngest heavyweight world champion since Mike Tyson knocked out Trevor Berbick in 1986.
But then disaster struck. And now Hrgovic is first Croatia's first-ever heavyweight champion — and the victor of one of the most surreal scenes in recent boxing history.
After losing nearly every second of every round, Hrgovic (21-1, 16 KOs) mounted an improbable comeback to stop an exhausted Itauma (14-1, 12 KOs) via ninth-round TKO. Ironically, it was Hrgovic's pre-fight emphasis on the value of a strong chin that proved to be most prophetic, as Hrgovic survived an outrageous onslaught of offense from the young phenom yet continued to push forward and stay in the fight.
Itauma had never made it out of the sixth round as a professional prior to Saturday night, and that inexperience reared its head at the worst of times, as the Briton barely appeared to have the energy to stand by the final round and was ultimately transported out of the arena on a stretcher after his team opted to throw in the towel.
Given that many ***** umed Itauma's coronation as heavyweight's new standard-bearer was an inevitability, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Saturday's result sent shockwaves throughout the boxing landscape. The Baltimore Ravens did not receive simple answers in their preseason finale. They received evidence that several of their most difficult roster decisions are difficult for good reasons. Baltimore rested 33 players and defeated the Washington Commanders 41-3, allowing the coaching staff to devote nearly every meaningful snap to players competing for jobs. Joe ******* nano, Adam Randall, LaJohntay Wester and several young defenders used the opportunity to strengthen their positions.
Here is what the finale revealed about Baltimore's primary roster races.
Fagnano completed 19 of 27 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown, finishing the preseason 56-of-75 for 509 yards, three scores and one interception.
Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley are secure. The decision is whether Baltimore values another position more than the protection of a developmental quarterback who may not clear waivers. ******* nano has made the practice squad route increasingly risky.
Randall produced 70 yards from scrimmage, rushing five times for 25 yards and catching three passes for 45. Ali had 46 yards from scrimmage and continued to show value as a receiver and special teams contributor.

The New England Revolution have signed midfielder Judah Siqueira as a Homegrown Player, extending through the 2027-2028 Major League Soccer season with club options through the 2030-2031 campaign, according to an announcement.
The 17-year-old from Easton becomes the 17th player to join the New England MLS roster from the Revolution Academy.
Siqueira made his first two MLS appearances in recent matches. He made his league debut on Aug. 19 at D.C. United in a 3-0 win. He followed with a 26-minute performance in a 1-1 draw against New York City FC on Aug. 23 in his Gillette Stadium debut.
"We are thrilled to sign Judah as a Homegrown Player," said Chris Tierney, New England's general manager and chief soccer officer. "Over the years, we have watched Judah develop into an outstanding young player through our Academy and with Revolution II. Judah is a high-potential player with a bright future ahead of him. We're excited to see his continued development with our club in years to come."
The Brazilian-American midfielder is the 14th Revolution Academy graduate to make an MLS appearance for New England.

Leonard Williams walked in with, and was holding, the evidence of how the Seahawks and Seattle have transformed his life.
Williams grew up in Dayton Beach, Florida, "grew up, you know, homeless, at times. I grew up living in, in and out of hotels, motels — and, you know, kind of an unstable lifestyle as a young kid," the 32-year-old Pro Bowl defensive lineman said last year.
Williams had just signed his three-year, $90 million extension with $56 million guaranteed to him Thursday. It keeps him under contract with the defending Super Bowl champions through 2029.
He was walking the team's indoor practice field into a press conference Thursday. His wife Hailey, whom he married last year before he second full season with the Seahawks, walked with him. She pushed a stroller. He held their five-month-old son, Zion.
They were a short drive from the home they own in the hills above Seahawks headquarters, in Seattle's eastern suburbs.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Atlanta Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who joined team drills for the first time on Monday, will not play in the team's final preseason game at Miami on Friday night.
The decision could have strong implications on Penix being available for the start of the regular season. The much-anticipated competition between Tua Tagovailoa and Penix for the starting job was put on hold through much of training camp as Penix continued his recovery from his 2025 season-ending injury to his left knee. Penix was limited to seven-on-seven and individual drills before his first 11-on-11 work this week.
Though Penix will not have played in any of the team's three preseason games, Stefanski insisted he was encouraged by the quarterback's progress.
"I thought he did well," Stefanski said of Penix's performance in practice on Wednesday. "I thought he looked good. He moved around well. I think all that work, like I've told you guys the whole time, and you've seen it with your own eyes, like he's put a lot of work into this. I think you see that in his getting away from center, making throws, etc."
Stefanski said Tagovailoa will start at Miami, followed by Cooper Rush and undrafted rookie Jack Strand.

The wins keep on rolling: tonight, the Kansas City Royals walked into the home of the Toronto Blue Jays and won 5-3 with a wild ninth inning that featured a pair of crucial defensive masterpieces.
In the first inning, both the Royals and Jays traded blows. Carter Jensen immediately singled against Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer; he was immediately followed by Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino walks to load the bases. Salvador Perez hit into a double play, an unfortunate result that at least scored Jensen. Fortunately for Kansas City, Toronto also loaded the bases in the first inning and also only scored one (a sacrifice fly from Jesús Sánchez).
From there, the game remained scoreless until the fifth inning, although not without traffic on the pasepaths. Royals starter Seth Lugo gave up half a dozen hits and a walk in his five innings, while Scherzer allowed nine total baserunners in his five innings.
Three said baserunners happened in the fifth inning. This time, Salvy singled to score Witt from third base and give the Royals a 2-1 lead—a lead which they would not relinquish.
The very next inning, the Royals extended their lead to three. Against relievers Braydon Fisher and Mason Fluharty, Nick Loftin and John Rave notched singles. Kyle Isbel then bunted, fueled by a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. throwing error. Jensen then hit a sac fly.

Where Unai Emery is concerned, the silent treatment has taken on a new meaning. The Aston Villa manager's pre-match interview at Brighton on Sunday was notable for a one-word answer. "Silence," he said, when asked about Ollie Watkins' whereabouts. The England striker was absent for the 4-0 defeat, Emery hinting he refused to play.
Watkins appears set on joining Al Hilal. A considerable boost to his bank balance would come with a dent to his reputation. For the nice guy, one of football's feel-good stories, it surely wasn't supposed to end like this. When Watkins was playing for Exeter at 21, the riches now offered in Saudi Arabia would have seemed unimaginable. But so, too, would have scoring the winner for England in the semi-final of a major tournament or winning a European trophy. This will be his last big contract – and presumably, much his biggest – but it again invites the question of how much money footballers need.

Six years at Villa Park should not have left him a pauper. Instead, he may leave Villa with Emi Buendia acting as a false nine at Brighton as they made a false start to their campaign.
A tarnished legacy would be a shame because Watkins and Villa have been very good for each other. He had never played in the top flight before he became their club record signing. He became the only player to reach double figures of Premier League goals in each of the last six seasons. His departure may be drawn out, but perhaps Watkins finished in a way with a match-winning brace against Manchester City, his last game at Villa Park, like his third, an evisceration of Liverpool. There were six goals in his last five games for Villa and, in the one where he did not find the net, they won the Europa League.

Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif has questioned captain Shubman Gill's use of Kuldeep Yadav in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle, saying the spinner's short spells suggested a lack of faith in him.

Kuldeep bowled only 25 overs across India's two innings in the Test and took one wicket, while left-arm spinner Manav Suthar and Ravindra Jadeja bowled around 44 overs each and shared 14 wickets. India won the Test by 165 runs.

Kaif, speaking on his YouTube channel, said Kuldeep is a rare type of bowler and needs the backing of the captain and team management.

"From how he was used, it is clear that Shubman Gill doesn't have enough faith in Kuldeep Yadav. From my point of view, you would not get a unique bowler like Kuldeep that often. They come just once or twice in history. We may get Ravindra Jadeja's replacement in the future, like we have Suthar; then we had Washington Sundar after Ashwin, but Kuldeep is a unique gift."

Kaif also said wrist-spinners need longer spells to settle into a rhythm and work on their mistakes.

"When you give a bowler a spell, especially a wrist-spinner, you need to give him a long spell. The short spells are not helping Kuldeep. Longer spells give you the chance to rectify mistakes. You need time to get into rhythm. Shubman Gill did not back him in that sense," he said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Kaif backed former India head coach Ravi Shastri's ******* sment that Kuldeep is India's No. 1 spinner in overseas conditions. He said the left-arm wrist-spinner could be particularly important on flatter pitches where there is less ******* istance from the surface.

"I agree with Ravi Shastri, who said that Kuldeep is our No. 1 spinner in overseas conditions. You just need accuracy on turning tracks. You will somehow get a wicket by bowling at the same area. But you won't get such turning tracks in New Zealand. I feel Kuldeep will play a major role on flat pitches or pitches where there would not be much turn on offer. You will have to keep his confidence high as captain and team management," Kaif said.

India's next Test is in Colombo from August 23, and Kaif believes the team could consider handing a debut to Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain.

He pointed to Sri Lanka's left-handed batters Niroshan ******* wella and Sonal Dinusha, who scored runs in the first Test, as a possible reason for India to consider an off-spinner.

"I feel India might be considering playing Saransh Jain in Colombo. The two batters who scored runs, ******* wella and Sonal, are both lefties. There came a time when Shubman Gill was searching for an off-spinner when they were batting. Because of Sri Lanka's in-form lefties, maybe Kuldeep will have to face the axe. Rashod Bateman has been accused of family violence in Georgia, according to court records obtained by TMZ.
The Baltimore Ravens receiver was arrested in June for the incident after turning himself in to the Walton County (Ga.) Sheriff the same day.
Bateman allegedly broke the window of a car with his three month old child inside. The car belonged to the mother of his child.
"We are aware of the situation involving Rashod and have been in direct communication with him," the Ravens said in a statement. "We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment."

NBC Sports host Maria Taylor's chemistry with WNBA icons-turned-analysts Cheryl Miller and Sue Bird has been on full display lately, including this outrageously funny TikTok. Enter: Tina Charles.
On Thursday, NBC Sports announced Charles is joining its WNBA studio team of Bird, Miller, Taylor, and LaChina Robinson. NBC Sports listed Charles as "a feature contributor."
Charles retired from the WNBA in May after an all-time great, 14-year WNBA career. The Connecticut Sun selected her No. 1 out of UConn in the 2010 WNBA Draft, and she won WNBA Rookie of the Year before winning WNBA MVP in 2012. The eight-time All-Star center made "The W25" as one of the 25 most significant players in the WNBA's first 25 years.
"Growing up, I watched the NBA on NBC, so joining NBC Sports is truly a full-circle moment for me," Charles said in a statement. "It's even more meaningful to be part of NBC's return to the WNBA, a league that has given me so much throughout my career. I'm excited to stay connected to the game I love, share a player's perspective, and help tell the stories that make this league so special. I'm grateful to join such an incredible team."

US Open ticket prices remain steep, with the main draw nearly a week away.
The average get-in ticket price to enter the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for the 2026 US Open main draw is $288 on the secondary market, about 13% more than at the same point last year ($255), according to TicketData.
The average get-in price for the women's singles final (Saturday, Sept. 12) and men's singles final (Sunday, Sept. 13) at Arthur Ashe Stadium is $510—also up 13% from last year.
One-day grounds pass tickets started for around $65–$135 at face value, depending on the date and time. Resale prices are much higher, but vary widely, with weeknight tickets the most affordable; the cheapest ticket for any main draw event is $157, for the night session at Arthur Ashe on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
The pricey tickets have persisted since the first batch of face-value tickets were released through the American Express presale in May. Many were scooped up by bots, contributing to the price hikes.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are giving Vita Vea a $30 million contract extension, and NFL fans cannot agree on whether it was the correct decision.
Despite being a Super Bowl champion and one of the best interior defenders in the NFL, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were paying Vita Vea much less than what someone with his resume can ask for.
The defensive tackle was set to earn $17 million in 2026, which was an unacceptable outcome to him. As such, it looked like he might leave the Bucs and had even requested a trade in July.
However, the Bucs have instead agreed to a contract extension with Vea, one which will lock him in with the team for the next two seasons and give him $6 million extra in this season as well.

Fermin Lopez says he can play false nine for Barcelona following the exits of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres this summer.
Barcelona are still in the hunt for a new striker before the transfer window closes, but it remains to be seen if the Catalans will land a new frontman for the new campaign.
Lopez has now been asked if he'd be happy to play false nine next season and offered up the following response.
"I can adapt, yes. I have played as a false nine in the lower categories of Barça," he told ARA. "It's a position similar to my favorite, which is attacking midfielder. I can also play wide on the left wing, but my best version is as an attacking midfielder.
Lopez was also asked who he thinks will score the goals next season for Barcelona and says Hansi Flick has plenty of options.

Just days before Bryson DeChambeau competes in his final LIV Golf event of the year, he announced on Monday that he will play at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa later this year.
DeChambeau posted a video on his social media channels alongside South Africa's greatest golfer, 90-year-old Gary Player, who serves as the tournament host.
"I am absolutely delighted that Bryson will compete in this year's Nedbank Golf Challenge," said Player. "The South African crowds loved watching him play earlier this year, and it is wonderful to welcome him back to our incredible country."
The Nedbank Golf Challenge will be held from Dec. 3-6 at Gary Player Country Club in the Northwest province of Sun City. Kristoffer Reitan is the defending champion. The tournament is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour.
"Bryson's passion, power and commitment to the game continue to inspire fans around the world," Player continued. "Bryson is a true global champion of golf. I know he will receive a very special welcome at Sun City, and I look forward to seeing how the new and improved Gary Player Country Club challenges his game."
