Quenton Nelson knows how hard it is to block Jeffery Simmons. When Nelson was a guard for the Colts and Simmons was a defensive tackle for the **** ans, the two played against each other 13 times. And when Nelson got traded to the Seahawks on Tuesday, he thought he was going to get a break from facing Simmons.
That didn't happen. Shortly after Nelson got traded to the Seahawks, Simmons got traded to the Bears. Who play the Seahawks on Monday night, in the first game for both players on their new teams.
Nelson said he considers Simmons one of the best opponents he's faced, and he's ready for a big challenge when the Bears visit Seattle on Monday night.
"He's an amazing football player and competitor. I was like, Man, can't get away from this guy. It'll be another battle against him this week," Nelson said.
Nelson vs. Simmons will be the most-watched offensive lineman vs. defensive lineman battle of this NFL season, as two All-Pros go at it again, now on new teams with Super Bowl aspirations.

The NFL, the most parity-driven major sports league, feels even more wide open this year. Even the perceived powerhouses entering the season and teams with the best records have flaws that are already being picked at by opponents.
Betting markets and bettors are keeping plenty of teams alive. As of Thursday evening, FanDuel had 11 NFC teams with +164 or shorter odds to make the playoffs, and seven teams with +1100 odds or shorter to win the Super Bowl. Thirteen teams were at +2500 or shorter to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in February.
This open competition leads to opportunity. And opportunity leads to action. Even when the Nov. 10 trade deadline was still a ways away, teams started to address their weaknesses. The Dallas Cowboys added Joey Porter Jr., the Baltimore Ravens nabbed Cam Jurgens. Now with the deadline growing closer, NFL teams have decided to strike. First, Quenton Nelson was shipped off to the Seattle Seahawks from the sinking ship known as the Indianapolis Colts. Soon after, DeForest Buckner returned to the San Francisco 49ers to bolster their defensive front.
Then, on Thursday, the Chicago Bears fired a shot across the bow to the rest of the NFC and NFL, trading two future first-round draft picks and a fourth-rounder to the Tennessee ****** ans for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round selection.
Now that's some real action for a trade deadline!

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, despite other team's recent inquiries, the Indianapolis Colts have no intentions of trading breakout defensive tackle Ade Adebawore ahead of the league's trade deadline:
With longtime veteran DeForest Buckner's departure, the 25-year-old Adebawore, who was originally a 2023 4th round pick by Indianapolis, is expected to immediately start full-time as his replacement going forward in 2026.
While those are big shoes to fill at 3T, Adebawore has had a standout campaign in a rotational role, recording 17 tackles (7 solo), a pass defensed, 4.0 sacks, and 15 total QB pressures during 7 games (1 start) this season.
Athletic, fast, twitchy, and featuring a surprisingly strong bull rush for his size at 6,'2", 282 pounds, Adebawore has really been flashing his immense athleticism so far this season and turning it into significant on-the-field production—albeit during rotational reps previously:
As a pending free agent in the last year of his current rookie contract, Adebawore appears to be an ascending young player and potential building block, who the rebuilding Colts would ******* uredly like to keep long-term defensively, with an ample amount of projected 2027 available team salary cap ******* e at $61.9M right now.

If you're doing a side by side comparison of the Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee ***** ans, it'd be easy to ***** ume the Nov. 1 meeting at Paycor Stadium would be a one-sided contest just based on their records.

Coach Shane Steichen's Colts are 2-4 on the season after losing 26-20 to Tennessee in a game that saw Robert Saleh get his first win as **** ans head coach, while making life **** on Daniel Jones. Jones, the Colts' starting QB, got a Tyler Warren injury update before the game that ended up as worst-case scenario as the key tight end didn't play.
The day got progressively worse from there as the Colts' starter was sacked six times against Saleh's team. The Colts piled up 399 yards of total offense but it wasn't enough to get a win. Steichen addressed the QB situation amid speculation that Anthony Richardson might get a shot in Week 7, as shared by NFL on ESPN.
"I think he knows he's gotta play better, I've gotta coach better, there's a lot of things, it's not on one guy, but we've gotta do a lot of things better…Yes, he's our starting quarterback," Steichen replied when pressed further on the matter.

Nate Tice & Hayden Winks dive into their instant takeaways from Week 6 of NFL action. The show kicks off with reactions from the Green Bay Packers getting a win against a Dallas Cowboys offense that could not get rolling on Sunday Night.
This week's Pick 6 begins with a Philadelphia Eagles team that seems to be in deep trouble, losing their fourth straight, this time against a surging Carolina Panthers offense. The guys jump to the preseason Super Bowl favorite Los Angeles Rams losing another division game to the Arizona Cardinals. Is it time to panic in Los Angeles? Next, Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers pull off a comeback victory against undrafted rookie QB Jalon Daniels and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Nate & Hayden then discuss their reactions to the Houston Texans beating the Jacksonville Jaguars across the pond in London. Then, they take a look at the New Orleans Saints scoring 34 unanswered points against the New York Giants. Is there a QB competition brewing between Jameis Winston and J.J. McCarthy, who saw his first action in a Giants uniform on Sunday? To close out Pick 6, the guys break down Caleb Williams' return for the Chicago Bears in their triumph over the Atlanta Falcons.
Lastly, Nate & Hayden hit on some Extra Credit, including reactions to the Tennessee ******* ans getting their first win of the season against the struggling Indianapolis Colts, an exciting shootout between the Buffalo Bills and Las Vegas Raiders, and the Cleveland Browns climbing the mountain to lead the AFC North with their win against the Baltimore Ravens.

Titans' Cam Ward finally got a win, but his brutal numbers still made unwanted history appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
A 26-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts was just what the doctor ordered for the Tennessee ******* ans as coach Robert Saleh got his first win with the franchise. Cam Ward's bright spots were pointed by OC Brian Daboll in the days leading up to the game, leading to a mediocre performance in Week 6.
Ward did enough to help his team secure the W, but he didn't do well on the stat sheet by traditional metrics. The former top overall pick became the fifth QB since 2024 to start and finish a game, attempt 20+ passes, throw for less than 105 yards and still win, according to NFL on FOX.
On the positive side of the equation, the other four guys to join him have all done well thus far, including Bryce Young, Jalen Hurts, Bo Nix and Caleb Williams.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane (wrist) suffered fractured wrist in the Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts, and he is expected to miss several weeks.
Lane was to have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury, and a timetable would then be set for his return. Test results are still pending. He managed one reception for 11 yards on three targets before he was knocked from the game.
SOURCE: RavensWire - Glenn Erby
Why it Matters: With Lane sidelined, and Zay Flowers leaving the game early due to a hamstring injury, the Ravens were down to Rashod Bateman, Chris Moore and LaJohntay Wester as the only healthy receivers Sunday. Devontez Walker was sidelined due to a groin injury, but he could play in Week 2, and rookie fourth-round pick Elijah Sarratt is also a possibility. He was a healthy inactive.

If you thought Philip Rivers' return to become the Colts' starting quarterback last season was a shocking development, Purdue football great Drew Brees reportedly discussed an even more improbable return.
ESPN reported Brees and Denver Broncos coaches discussed Brees returning to play for the franchise in last year's AFC Championship Game. The Broncos lost quarterback Bo Nix to an ankle injory in their AFC Divisional Round victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Brees, 47, had not played a game since his retirement from the New Orleans Saints after the 2020 season. According to ESPN, he wanted to work out prior to making any commitments. After doing so, he said he encountered wrist pain and decided against pursuing a return.
ESPN's report said even Broncos coach Sean Payton -- Brees' coach with the Saints -- did not know of the discussions until the summer.
The Broncos instead went with their actual backup, Jarret Stidham, in a 10-7 loss to the New England Patriots.

Philip Rivers' unretirement shocked the NFL in 2025, but it was a last-ditch effort by the Colts just to salvage their season and get to the playoffs.
According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Drew Brees — who retired the same offseason as Rivers did — nearly rocked the league with his own stunning decision in the middle of the playoffs.
Brees even put himself through a workout to see if he could physically give it a shot, but he ultimately decided to stay retired. The Saints legend was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame just weeks later.
Here's what you need to know about Brees' near-comeback.

The Denver Broncos were in a desperate situation entering the 2026 AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. With starting quarterback Bo Nix injured and missing the game, the team reportedly reached out to Hall of Famer Drew Brees to see if he was interested in what could have been one of the most surreal moments in the sport's history.
The Broncos had homefield advantage, but were dealt a cruel blow with Nix breaking his ankle late in their Divisional Round overtime win against the Buffalo Bills. Backup Jarrett Stidham started the game and in blizzard-like conditions, could only muster seven points as the Patriots won 10-7 to advance to the Super Bowl.
But what if it was one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time under center for the Broncos that day?
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos did indeed reach out to Drew Brees to gauge his interest in an improbable comeback. Considering that Sean Payton coaches the Broncos and the pairing is one of the most successful in NFL history while winning a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints, it's easy to see why Denver made the call. Brees and Payton are the second-winningest QB/Coach combo in NFL history, only behind Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
Of course, there would have been one major obstacle to overcome. Drew Brees had just turned 47 and hadn't played a competitive NFL game since January 17, 2021 in a playoff loss to Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, Brees wouldn't have been alone in making an incredible return as Philip Rivers had come out of five years of retirement to play three games for the injury-plagued Indianapolis Colts. While Rivers went 0-3 as a starter, he completed 63% of his passes and threw 4 TDs to 3 INTS.

The NFL is back, and with that comes exciting upsets like the Arizona Cardinals winning over the Los Angeles Chargers, as well as the New York Giants pulling out a rare win at home to open the season against the Dallas Cowboys. The Raiders also made a statement against the Miami Dolphins. Former Indiana State Sycamore Johnathan Edwards was waived Monday by the Indianapolis Colts.
The move followed the Colts' 41-23 loss at home to Baltimore in Sunday's season opener. Edwards didn't play against the Ravens, and was among six Colts players declared inactive for Week 1. Indianapolis promoted Kenneth Harris from the practice squad prior to the game, with Harris then occupying Edwards' special teams roles.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pound Edwards was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent May 9, 2025.
As a rookie, Edwards played in 14 games (with five starts) and registered 24 tackles (18 solo), three passes defensed and two special teams stops.
Collegiately, Edwards appeared in 45 career games at Tulane (2024) and Indiana State (2021-23) and recorded 124 tackles (86 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, 22 passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Ravens news: Jesse Minter promises Rashod Bateman breakout is coming appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Baltimore Ravens walked out of Week 1 with a dominant 41-23 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Derrick Henry continued his Hall of Fame case, Lamar Jackson looked like his former MVP self, and Zay Flowers played like a top-level wide receiver in the NFL. But what about Rashod Bateman? Well, it appears head coach Jesse Minter plans to get him more involved as the season rolls along.
While talking with media members on Monday, the 43-year-old head coach claimed he liked everything he saw from Bateman in Week 1, despite the former first-round pick not hauling in a single reception, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. Minter ended his statement suggesting that the Ravens will find a way to get Bateman more targets moving forward.
"I give Bate a lot of credit," Minter said. "He played the game the right way. He ran good routes. I'm excited about how he played. I think there's big days ahead for Bate."

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts spent an entire offseason reshaping the defense.
They signed multiple free agents to beef up the defensive line. They drafted two linebackers they projected as potential starters. They waited for two promising defensive backs to get healthy after training camp injuries cost each their entire 2025 seasons.
But on Sunday, it didn't look like a new and improved unit. Instead, the Colts allowed 506 total yards and 202 yards rushing in another troubling season-opening loss.
"This is a good gut check for the entire team, every single one of us," Pro Bowl defensive tackle and team captain DeForest Buckner said after an underwhelming reintroduction in a 41-23 loss to Baltimore. "We've got to be better, including myself. We've got to be better each and every day, have a sense of urgency and move on to the Chiefs."
It's a familiar refrain for Indy fans, who have celebrated just one opening-day win in the past 13 years. And to many, this one seemed like more of a dud than the promised fresh start. They responded with a cascade of boos as they watched more of the same.

The Indianapolis Colts have waived cornerback Johnathan Edwards, the team announced on Monday.
Edwards was inactive during Sunday's Week 1 game against Baltimore.
The Colts signed Edwards as a UDFA after the 2025 NFL draft. He would make the Colts' 53-man roster as a rookie and appeared in 14 games, which included five starts.
Edwards flashed his upside and potential here and there, but he was also quite inconsistent as well. During his rookie season, Edwards allowed 17 completions on 27 targets, giving up almost 15 yards per catch.
In the preseason this summer, things didn't get much better. Edwards allowed a completion rate of 60% on 10 targets, while surrendering a hefty 19.3 yards per catch, with only one pass breakup over two games.

Coming off the Indianapolis Colts' Week 1 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Shane Steichen said that wide receiver Alec Pierce's left hand/wrist is fine, according to Mike Chappell of FOX59.
Following Sunday's game, Chappell wrote that Pierce briefly exited the game and was taken to the locker room after his left wrist hit the helmet of Ravens' linebacker Roquan Smith at some point in the first half.
Chappell added that Pierce's X-rays came back negative. He then spoke to the Colts' wideout about the injury after the game.
"It's good,'' Pierce told Chappell. "I just bruised up my hand. No worries.''
Pierce underwent offseason ankle surgery that landed him on the PUP list for much of training camp. He has spent the past few weeks ramping up, which included taking on a smaller role in Sunday's game.

As we continue to take a look back at the Indianapolis Colts' Week 1 performance against the Baltimore Ravens, let's highlight some noteworthy snap count figures.
For the most part, when it comes to playing time, there aren't many huge surprises, but each week, particularly early on, there are a few things we can glean.
With help from PFF, here are a few quick notes from the Colts' snap count totals from Week 1.
It was reported beforehand that Pierce wouldn't be a full-go in this contest. Out of 54 offensive plays, he was on the field for 32 of them as he continues to ramp up following his return from offseason ankle surgery.

The NFL Week 1 schedule concludes Monday night when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Denver Broncos in an AFC West matchup at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
For Kansas City, the biggest question heading into the season opener has centered on its quarterback. Patrick Mahomes has spent the offseason working his way back from a major knee injury that ended his 2025 season.
The 30-year-old quarterback has not played since suffering a torn ACL and LCL in December 2025. The injury sparked concern across Chiefs kingdom and Kansas City also missed the playoffs for the first time in the Mahomes era.

Early big-time college football matchups are all the rage, and the Philadelphia Eagles will have representatives in Austin for one of the most talent-rich games on the early college football schedule.
Philadelphia is among 16 NFL organizations expected to have scouts present when No. 1 Ohio State visits No. 4 Texas on Saturday night at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. The Eagles will join the Cowboys, Seahawks, 49ers, Broncos, Colts, Patriots, Panthers, Lions, Chargers, Texans, Ravens, Rams, Dolphins, Jets and Browns in evaluating two rosters loaded with potential NFL talent.
Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is expected to become one of the most coveted prospects in the 2027 draft. His matchup against Texas' secondary will give evaluators another opportunity to study his releases, route running, and ability to produce against top competition.
The following NFL teams will have reps present at Ohio State - Texas tonight:

Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin and Texas quarterback Arch Manning will receive plenty of attention, even from organizations without an immediate need at the position. Comprehensive quarterback evaluations remain valuable because their eventual landing spots can influence the entire draft board. Texas edge defender Colin Simmons is another prospect capable of commanding the attention of Philadelphia's personnel department. His ability to pressure the quarterback and defend the run fits the athletic profile the Eagles have consistently valued along the defensive front.
