That was obvious to anyone watching the **** ans lose a sixth straight season opener since 2020 with Saleh the third different coach in that span. They never led and wound up dominated by the New York Jets in a 23-10 loss to a team that also went 3-14 last season.

A horse named Coach Pope, after Kentucky basketball head coach Mark Pope, picked up his first win in a Maiden Special Weight race at Churchill Downs during the first weekend of the track's September Meet.
The 2-year-old colt, who entered the race as a 1/1 favorite, pulled away to win by 1½ lengths. Coach Pope completed the one-mile race on a fast track in 1:35.77.
Ridden by Jose Ortiz — who won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes aboard Golden Tempo, as well as the Kentucky Oaks with Always a Runner — Coach Pope broke well and raced close before breaking away after the final turn, passing Fullback and Justification.

Manchester United U18s travelled to the North East on Saturday afternoon to take on Newcastle United U18s.
Heading into the match, Newcastle had won four out of four and were sure to be a tough test for Darren Fletcher's side, who have been in scintillating form.
United were on a three-match winning streak of their own, with a combined score of 11-0.
Both sides felt each other out in the opening stages, with neither team committing forward, leaving little ****** e for openings in attack. United's first chance came through a long-range effort from Jaume Camacho, but George Mair saved comfortably enough.

Former UFC contender Tony Ferguson returns to the boxing ring Sept. 26 on the undercard of Henry Cejudo vs. "Deen The Great."
Ferguson will take on former professional soccer player Kenzo Biyong in a five-round boxing match for Misfits Boxing at James L. Knight Center in Miami.
Ferguson, 42, is 2-0 under the Misfits banner with one pro win and one exhibition win. He hasn't competed in striking competition since December when he beat Warren Spencer by unanimous decision. Prior to that, he defeated Nathaniel Bustamante, also known as "Salt Papi," by third-round TKO stoppage.
Since those boxing bouts, Ferguson took a wrestling match for RAF, which he lost to Arman Tsarukyan by technical fall.
Biyong, 28, has dabbled in combat sports before, though this will be his first outing involving striking. In April, he competed at UFC BJJ 7 and was quickly submitted by Raphael Ferreira.

BATON ROUGE — Lane Kiffin arrived on the set of ESPN's College GameDay around 10 a.m. local time with a look of determination. He still flashed a peace sign at LSU fans who cheered him as he walked, but otherwise didn't break stride.

On Friday night, LSU decided not to add Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to its final roster—a shocking turn after the players, as well as LSU itself, fought a legal battle for the right to take the field as Tigers.
Wright and Harris were just two of hundreds of college athletes who have sued the NCAA to challenge the implementation of its "age-based" eligibility policy, which offered a fifth year of eligibility to college athletes—but didn't include players from the freshman class of 2022 who had already completed, like them. But their lawsuit drew national news because they had signed NFL contracts, though both were waived before making regular-season roster. Vanderbilt football will kick off Clark Lea's sixth season at FirstBank Stadium against Austin Peay.

The Miami Dolphins weren't impressed by their trio of quarterbacks battling to back up Malik Willis this preseason, which led the team to trade Quinn Ewers and cut both Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski over the weekend.
While these moves left Miami without a quarterback, they quickly pivoted and completed a trade with the Green Bay Packers to acquire Kyle McCord, who completed 65.7% of his passes for 446 yards and four touchdowns in the preseason.
Speaking with the media this week, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst explained the decision to move on from the 23-year-old.
"He played so well during the preseason. We were contemplating, do we keep three? Do we try to get him to the practice squad, what's the likelihood of that? When somebody calls you and starts talking about a trade, the likelihood of getting him to the practice squad probably isn't strong," Gutekunst said. "It's always (tough), whenever you trade a player that you like and you think has an upside, but he wasn't going to be the No. 2 here most likely, and heading into next year, who knows? It's our job to find the next guy, and develop the next guy. That's what we do. That's what we'll do moving forward."
Instead of rolling with McCord as Jordan Love's backup, the Packers took the sixth-round pick they got in return and will have Tyrod Taylor step in if their starter goes down in 2026.

The dust has settled on what has been an extremely eventful Tottenham Hotspur summer transfer window. You can see how busy Spurs were from the transfer summary article, which isn't even complete despite me doing my best to track it all summer long. (Alasdair Gold counted 54 moves this summer in all squads including reserves and U-squads; clearly I missed some, especially in the youth and reserve teams.) If nothing else, Tottenham Hotspur was certainly not idle.
But how did we do? Well… it's complicated. Spurs spend an obscene amount of money on new signings (£394m by best estimation, not including purchase options), offset a great deal by numerous player sales (£264m including options). The net spend is actually not that bad — £130m all said, which puts it in line with transfer spends in the last few years of the Daniel Levy era.
Spurs have turned over the club in Roberto De Zerbi's image, and whether you think that's a positive or not is very likely going to color your perception of the window as a whole. Matty and I have our takes. Let's see what you think!

Tottenham have reached an agreement with Everton to sign Iliman Ndiaye, with Richarlison set to move in the opposite direction, according to The Athletic.
Ndiaye is set to leave Goodison Park, with the Senegal international now closing in on a move to Tottenham for around £60m.
Richarlison, meanwhile, will return to Everton in a £35m deal, having previously spent four years at the club before joining Spurs in 2022.
Everton have also decided against selling Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, according to The Telegraph.
The midfielder had been the subject of a bid from Forest, but Everton have now opted to keep hold of the 19-year-old.

LONDON (AP) — Defending world champion Lando Norris has extended his contract with McLaren until at least the end of 2030, the F1 team said Saturday.
McLaren said the new deal features "a multi-year option to commit beyond that date."
Financial terms were not announced. The Press ****** ociation news agency said the British driver's new contract could be worth up to $35 million a year.
The 26-year-old Norris secured McLaren's first drivers' ****** le last year since Lewis Hamilton won his first championship in 2008.
"McLaren is my home, and I'm very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030," Norris said.

Crystal Palace face an immediate test of Pierre Sage's credentials on Friday, with Manchester City heading to Selhurst Park for the new Eagles boss's first home Premier League fixture.
Sage has inherited a squad that is largely available, although injuries and off field issues have complicated his selection. Ismaila Sarr remains sidelined with a groin problem, while Chadi Riad is unavailable because of a knee injury. Jean-Philippe Mateta also remains a notable selection, given his ongoing legal dispute with the club over his contract.
There is little reason to expect Sage to make wholesale changes for such a demanding fixture. Dean Henderson should retain his place in goal, with Palace expected to line up with three centre backs in front of him.
Jaydee Canvot, Chris Richards and Takehiro Tomiyasu are the likely defensive trio. It gives Sage a combination of physicality, mobility and experience, qualities that will be required against a Manchester City attack capable of stretching a defence in several different ways.
Daniel Munoz and Tyrick Mitchell should operate as wing backs. Their role could prove particularly important, because Palace will need to offer an attacking outlet while remaining disciplined when City have possession.

Raphinha and Fermin Lopez goals helped Spanish champions Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 on Thursday in La Liga to continue their perfect start to the season.
The Catalan giants eased to a solid victory over their Basque visitors in their first game of the season at the partially-rebuilt Camp Nou, with new arrival Rodri coming on for his Barca debut.
Raphinha rounded the goalkeeper and slid home in the 37th minute to give Barca the lead, and Lopez netted after 82 minutes to secure the points, with the Catalans missing several chances for more goals and twice hitting the woodwork.
"Very happy to play my first game, happy with the victory, we've got two from two," Rodri told DAZN.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler tweeted that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans and the team are preparing as if he's going to suit up in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Evans missed practice this week with a groin injury. Kyle Shanahan said he expected Evans to be back for next week's practice. Fowler confirmed that Evans' latest injury is minor, like the other ones he's sustained this month. Not that there was any doubt, but Evans' groin injury does not sound serious.
If the regular season is anything like training camp and the preseason, Evans could be a mainstay on the injury report. He may be listed as questionable and never miss a game, but this could be the norm.
Evans figures to be a massive part of the 49ers' offense. Kyle Shanahan has a run-first mentality, but Evans is the type of player who could turn his head coach into the pass-happy type. Adding Evans to the offense benefits everybody involved. The running game, the receivers, the running backs, and most importantly, Brock Purdy.

SEATTLE (AP) — Cal Raleigh tied a team record with homers in four straight at-bats, George Kirby pitched one-run ball into the eighth inning and Seattle Mariners beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Tuesday night.
Raleigh led off the second inning against Philadelphia's Aaron Nola with a 362-foot shot to right field for his 18th homer of the season. It was his first time up after also homering in all three of his at-bats in a 9-2 win against the Phillies on Monday, matching the Seattle record of homers in four consecutive at-bats set by Mike Cameron on May 2, 2002.
Kirby (9-10) gave up one run on four hits and struck out nine in 7 2/3 innings. Jose Ferrer got the last out in the eighth and Andrés Muñoz pitched the ninth for his 24 save in 32 chances.
Nola (5-10) got the loss, allowing two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts over six innings.
Kirby was coming off a couple of tough outings, including giving up six first-inning runs in his last start against the Brewers. It looked as if he might be in trouble again when he allowed three straight singles in the second inning, including an RBI hit by Justin Crawford. Instead, Kirby got out of the jam and cruised the rest of the way.

Football has a habit of compressing an entire afternoon into a few seconds. At St Andrew's, Bristol City's performance will inevitably be remembered for two of them: one moment of extraordinary invention from Dom Ballard and one raised flag that left Michael Skubala describing the eventual penalty decision as "crazy".
Ballard's goal deserved to win any match. With his back to goal, the substitute met Rio Cardines' cross with an improvised flick that looped beyond James Beadle and into the Birmingham net.
It was audacious, instinctive and almost impossible to defend. The sort of finish that momentarily silences a large home crowd because everybody inside the ground needs a second to understand what they have just seen.
It put City 2–1 ahead with five minutes remaining and appeared to have completed an excellent away performance. Then came the fifth minute of stoppage time, a crowded penalty area and an ******* istant referee convinced that Jason Knight had handled the ball.

Fight fans tuned in to LFA 239 on Friday night (Aug. 22, 2026) in hopes of some memorable MMA action, but instead they ended up witnessing one of the worst cases of staph infection to ever enter the cage.
Friday's LFA 239 event in Ventura, Calif., was headlined by a featherweight clash between Chris Mecate and Manuel Exposito. The fight itself was an entertaining back-and-forth that saw Mecate walk away with the unanimous decision win, but that's not what fans will remember the most. It will be the apparent staph infection that made Mecate's back look like it was about to pop.
While fight fans have seen some gnarly staph infections over the years it's usually not big enough to make a noticeable difference. That was not the case on Friday as Mecate's alleged staph infection took up a whole portion of his back. Making matters worse is that Exposito kept making contact with it. It's hard not to throughout 15 minutes of fighting, but still a gross scene to say the least.

Of course, fight fans were quick to notice the main event gross fest and quickly took to social media to discuss. Not only were they disgusted by the actual ailment, but many called out the California State Athletic Commission for allowing Mecate to compete in the first place.

In a competition with Spencer Rattler for the backup quarterback role, Wilson stepped onto the Superdome turf Saturday and put on a show. Earlier this year, bar and restaurant owners learned that they'd need to pivot from satellite to streaming. Then, after many of them did, they found out that they didn't need to do it.
Understandably, they're not happy about that.
In an item for Awful Announcing, Daniel Kaplan reports that some bar owners are considering litigation over the apparent bait-and-switch for the money that was wasted to overhaul the technological infrastructure after being told that DirecTV was out of the Sunday Ticket business for good.
EverPass, which distributes NFL products to commercial establishments, sent a clear message that the obsolescence of satellite was irreversible.
"The shift happening in live sports distribution is much bigger than any one company or product," EverPass told a bar owner in May, per Kaplan. "To clarify, there are no active discussions between EverPass and DirecTV regarding NFL Sunday Ticket. EverPass is the only authorized commercial distribution platform for NFL Sunday Ticket, beginning with the 2026 season."

The Baltimore Ravens and USAA gave 100 Baltimore-area service members an opportunity to experience training camp from a different perspective Thursday. Military members from Fort Meade visited the Ravens' training facility for a day of competition featuring drills similar to those NFL coaches use to evaluate players.
Former Ravens punter Sam Koch, the Ravens Cheerleaders and Poe welcomed the participants before the competition began. Service members then tested their athletic abilities in the 40-yard dash, broad jump, three-cone shuttle, receiving gauntlet and quarterback arm challenge. A live leaderboard tracked individual scores throughout the event, adding another competitive element to the experience. Each member of the winning team received tickets to this season's Ravens Salute to Service game presented by USAA.

Participants also received an exclusive tour of the Ravens' practice facility, commonly known as The Castle, following the competition.
The event offered local military members a behind-the-scenes look at an NFL training environment and allowed them to experience some of the physical tests players undergo during the pre-draft and roster evaluation process.

Barcelona vice-president Rafael Yuste has confirmed that the club made an offer for Julian Alvarez, although he refused to provide any further details about the Argentine forward's future.
Speaking to TV3 after Barcelona's Joan Gamper Trophy appearance, Yuste was asked about the club's pursuit of the Atletico Madrid striker.
Alvarez has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, but Atletico remain firm in their position that the Argentine is not for sale.

A series of fights and skirmishes threatened to derail the New Orleans Saints' joint practice session with the Dallas Cowboys, but the Saints managed to get through the afternoon without any fight-related injuries. That's not to say they got out of it unscathed. Several players exited practice early, two of them starters: running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Quincy Riley. The severity of their injuries is not yet known.
"Only two guys who weren't able to finish practice were Alvin with a knee, and then Quincy with a groin," head coach Kellen Moore told reporters afterwards. "Other than that, good work, obviously you guys saw the chippiness of it. Not the ideal flow of a joint practice but we got the work that we needed. We'll have one more Thursday with the Rams, we've had a number (of practices) with those guys before, so (not worried)."
Moore later clarified that wide receiver Ronnie Bell left the practice with heat-related issues; he was seen walking slowly too the sideline before being driven indoors on a trainer's cart without his jersey. Wide receiver Chris Olave, the team's top wide receiver, briefly received attention from trainers after taking a hit on a catch but remained on the sidelines to observe the rest of practice. He later returned for the final sequence of team drills in a red zone period.
Fans and reporters covering the joint practice counted as many as six, seven, ten or more dustups over the course of the two-hour practice session. Both teams were fortunate to get out of it without any serious injuries from the fists and helmets flying around. We'll see if tempers flare up again on Thursday when the Saints and Rams meet for their own joint practice session.

The Baltimore Ravens left their preseason opener with plenty to feel good about. Saturday's 24-7 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles offered encouraging signs for a team navigating its first season under head coach Jesse Minter. Baltimore played a clean game. They showcased several young contributors and gave their new coaching staff a successful first outing together.
By Monday, however, the focus had already shifted toward the next challenge. The Ravens returned to the practice field two days after the win. They will hold a closed walkthrough Tuesday before traveling to Eagan, Minnesota. They're doing so to hang out for joint practices against the Vikings.
The football benefits are obvious. Still, when Minter spoke with the media, he said he views the trip as more than a preseason checkpoint.
"It is a great opportunity for our team just to kind of be together, be away, spend time together in football and out of football... It is something we are excited about."

Thanks to an overtime victory against the Atlanta Dream on Sunday night, the Indiana Fever have won four straight games. They're 23-12, owners of the fourth-best record in the WNBA, and if the playoffs were to start today, they'd host the Atlanta Dream in the first round of the playoffs.
For Indiana, it's been an up-and-down season — filled with plenty of highs and plenty of lows. A litany of off-court storylines have dominated their year, from Sophie Cunningham's controversial comments on trans women in sports, to hard fouls that have taken on a life of their own, to Fever fans booing head coach Stephanie White. These controversies have dominated so much that the (elite) on-court product has almost flown under the radar.
But the Fever are just two games behind the Golden State Valkyries for second place in the standings. They have the third-best point differential in the league, and two legitimate MVP candidates in Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark, who are the league's second and third-leading scorers, trailing only four-time MVP A'ja Wilson.
Clark is averaging 22 points and 8.3 ******* ists, while putting together the most efficient season of her career, shooting 45% from the field and 35.4% from three. Mitchell is averaging 24.2 points on 50.3% shooting, while hitting 43.7% of her threes.
Both players came up huge in Sunday's overtime win over the Atlanta Dream, with Clark finishing with 26 points and 9 ******* ists and Mitchell adding 20 points. Mitchell has now scored at least 20 points in 19 consecutive games, the longest single-season streak in WNBA history. Clark has scored at least 25 points in 8 games this season, becoming the first-ever point guard to accomplish that feat.
