After writing out all the winning percentages involved, I did end up voting with the plurality of 37% on this one. I wanted the Royals to finish out August with a winning streak. to believe it was a possibility. They didn't manage it, losing one of the games in Toronto with three in Cleveland left to go before the month is over. That said, if they can sweep in Cleveland (a big if with Tanner Bibee, Foster Griffin, and Parker Messick scheduled to pitch this weekend), maybe I'll still give in to some hopium for a September where they'd need to go 18-6 to reach .500.
The second place selection at 31% was midway through September and, honestly, if they had managed that, or if they can get there with only the one loss, I think the Royals playoff odds would rocket up from the current 0.1% to something like 50% at least. That's a very reasonable time to believe, but man, I can't imagine living my life where I had to see my favorite sports team go that far before I was able to dream a little about them. And those 18% of you who think the Royals need to win every remaining game – which would have gotten them to 88 wins, now 87 – make me truly sad.

LIV Golf will lay off the majority of its staff next week under drastic reforms intended to keep the breakaway tour afloat next year, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

There is no doubt that Real Madrid have had a very exciting summer transfer window, with the addition of up to six new players, and also the return of Jose Mourinho as the team's head coach. However, one aspect that might leave some of the fans not fully satisfied is the lack of reinforcements in the midfield.
The Merengues have signed a highly experienced and reliable midfielder in Bernardo Silva, but as Mourinho himself put it in a recent press conference, the signing of Rodri Hernandez, who ultimately decided to sign for Barcelona, would have been the icing on the cake.

Doing a version of shadow boxing, he would get into a three-point stance, then rise up, dodging mythical blockers. He then went to the goalpost and worked on a move around it as if it were an all-league left tackle.
Thomas Johnson is one of 22 transfers, coming from UNC-Central, where he had 12 sacks, 49 tackles and 18 tackles for loss. Like several Bearcats, he's trying to prove he belongs in power conference football.

Sheffield United's owners face a winding-up order in the High Court on Wednesday which could mean the club incur a 12-point deduction in the Championship this season.
The case is related to the purchase of the club in December 2024 by COH Sports Bidco Limited (CSBL), an American-based consortium.
CSBL agreed to buy the Blades for just over £100m but, according to the club's former owners United World, still owes more than £35m from the deal.
The winding-up petition was filed against CSBL - not the football club - on 8 July, and is due before the High Court on Wednesday.
If the £35m is not paid, or an agreement is not reached, CSBL could be wound up.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Colton Cowser hit a two-run homer and Christian Encarnacion-Strand had a three-run double in a seven-run sixth, Trevor Rogers allowed two runs in six innings and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-2 on Sunday.

WESTFIELD – The Colts held a five-player tryout on Saturday, taking a look at an undrafted free agent rookie quarterback, three veteran wide receivers and an undrafted free agent cornerback.
The quarterback in question, Iowa grad Mark Gronowski, played a single season of Power Five football at Iowa in 2025 after winning a pair of FCS Division I national championships in 2022 and 2023 with South Dakota State. Gronowski spent four seasons with the Jackrabbits (including one red shirt campaign) and finished with a 49-6 record – tying the all-time FCS mark for wins by a quarterback. After his 9-4 campaign in Iowa City in 2025, Gronowski's 58 all-time victories make him the winningest quarterback in NCAA history at any level.
The dual-threat quarterback logged 12,049 passing yards and 103 scores through the air to go with 2,312 rushing yards on 515 carries and 53 more touchdowns. In his lone season with the Hawkeyes, Gronowski finished 166-for-262 (63.4%) with 10 passing touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 545 yards on 130 attempts and logged 16 more scores.
The Miami Dolphins signed Gronowski soon after the end of the NFL Draft in April, but he was cut just over a week ago from Dolphins training camp. The Colts already have four quarterbacks in training camp – having most recently signed veteran Easton Stick for the No. 4 slot during OTAs as Anthony Richardson Sr. and Riley Leonard compete for the backup job behind starter Daniel Jones.
The Colts also took a look at three journeyman receivers, the most veteran among them Josh Reynolds, who the Rams selected in the fourth round in 2017.
