Donald Trump saw home favourite Shane Lowry take a four-shot lead into the final round of the Irish Open on Saturday at the Doonbeg course which bears the US President's name.
After completing his political engagements in Dublin, golf fan Trump made a dramatic landing aboard helicopter Marine One on Ireland's west coast at a course he has owned since 2014.
Lowry's surge to the top of the leaderboard has further energised the tournament.
The 39-year-old won his home Open in 2009 as an amateur and claimed his only major on Irish soil at Royal Portrush seven years ago.
However, Lowry has one only won one individual event since.

All signs appear to be pointing up for Jeremiyah Love ahead of Week 1.
The Arizona Cardinals rookie running back has participated in all three practice sessions this week, as he is now four weeks removed from suffering a high-ankle sprain on his left leg against the Las Vegas Raiders in preseason.
While Love was officially listed as limited on the first two days of practice this week, he did not appear to have any restrictions during the portions open to media. During those sessions, Love was able to cut off his injured ankle at speed, and participated in full-team jog-throughs, alternating with veteran running back Tyler Allgeier.
When asked before practice on Friday, Sept. 11, head coach Mike LaFleur did not commit to Love's status for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
"Still got another good day of work today to figure that out," LaFleur said. "But he's trending well."

That time playing for the Burgundy and Gold, or for anyone else, may be coming to an end.
The 36-year-old told on-site reporters on Thursday afternoon that 2026 may be his final season. While he's old by NFL player standard, Way remains at the top of his game and one of the best punters in the league.
Way also said that he informed Commanders general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn that he's strongly considering retirement.

Manchester United clashed heads with Everton at the Hill ****** inson Stadium earlier today as they hoped to secure a win on the road in the Premier League. The Red Devils made a decent start to the game and managed to get to the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Bryan Mbeumo scored the opening goal for the visitors in the 47th minute before Tyrique George equalised for Everton with a great effort in the 83rd minute. Benjamin Sesko put his team 2-1 ahead just five minutes later, but Ainsley Maitland-Niles equalised for the Toffees with a great strike in injury time. The match ended with Michael Carrick's men securing a lackluster 2-2 draw away from home.

It had to be Ayden Gaines.
With Claremore trailing by four and facing third down from the Bartlesville 11-yard line with 48 seconds remaining, the circumstances almost seemed predetermined for the senior receiver, whose jersey number matched the exact yardage the Zebras needed to retake the lead.
Gaines had already spent most of the night proving nearly impossible to stop, and all that remained was for Kellen Gaede to make the game-winning pass.
The senior quarterback took the snap and fired toward Gaines, who leaped high above the defenders and pulled down the pass for their second touchdown connection of the night. The score pushed Claremore back in front and ultimately delivered a dramatic 35-32 victory Friday night over the Bruins at Lantow Field.
It was the program's fourth-straight victory over the Bruins.

At some point, dominance stops being impressive and starts raising a different question: What is left to prove?
The Bulldogs opened the 2026 season Thursday night by doing something that would have been difficult to imagine two years ago: they walked into Pittsburg State, the site of their most recent loss, and dismantled the No. 4 Gorillas, 42-14. The victory extended Ferris State's winning streak to 31 games and immediately reminded the rest of the country why the Bulldogs entered the season ranked No. 1 in Division II.
The significance goes beyond the score.
Pittsburg State handed Ferris its last loss, a 19-3 defeat on Aug. 31, 2024. Since then, Ferris has not simply won; it has crushed opponents on its way to consecutive national championships. Thursday's victory was particularly emphatic, as the Bulldogs ran for 385 yards while holding Pittsburg State to just 44 rushing yards.
The Bulldogs finished 16-0 in 2025, defeating Harding 42-21 for their fourth national championship in five seasons. That made Ferris the first team in the modern era of Division I or Division II football to finish a season 16-0. The Bulldogs also scored 844 points, setting an NCAA Division I and II modern-era scoring record.

In the longer format, patience and discipline are traditional routes to building an innings. The beauty lies in embracing that challenge when the situation demands it.

South Zone found themselves in a similar situation on Monday. At 80/5, they were staring at the prospect of conceding first-innings lead to North Zone, who had posted 195 in their Duleep Trophy semifinal at the BCCI Centre of Excellence here.

What followed over the next 271 minutes was an exhibition of restraint and disciplined batsmanship as Tilak Varma (106 batting, 225b, 7x4) and Shreyas Gopal (87, 169b, 11x4) took centre stage with a 175-run sixth-wicket partnership. Their stand eventually turned the tide, helping South secure a first-innings lead. They were 285/9 at stumps, 90 runs ahead on the second day.

South, who resumed on 40/2, were rocked by the brilliance of pacer Gurnoor Brar (4/70), who arrived in the city from the Sri Lanka tour on Friday. Making the most of windy conditions, Brar produced a peach in his fifth delivery of the day to disturb Narayan Jagadeesan's stumps. He struck again soon after, producing a similar delivery to castle R Smaran's off stump before dismissing Kodimela Himateja for a duck.

With their backs against the wall, Tilak and Shreyas joined hands and tested the North bowlers' patience.

The Karnataka all-rounder brought up his first four off the 42nd ball he faced. Tilak did not find the boundary again until his 154th delivery, with that four taking South into the lead. Having curbed his instincts and reached his fifty without a boundary, the Hyderabad batter gradually shifted gears.

Shreyas, meanwhile, completed his fifty in 107 ******* and looked in control as he appeared on course for his seventh first-class hundred. But pacer Arshdeep Singh ended his vigil when he edged one through to stand-in wicketkeeper Abdul Samad.

With South's tail beginning to crumble, Tilak was in danger of missing out on a deserved century. The Hyderabad batter, though, held his nerve, smashing two successive fours off Gurnoor to bring up his eighth first-class hundred in 219 ******* .

Interestingly, all seven of Tilak's fours came after he reached his fifty — a reflection of the restraint that underpinned his innings. With South nine down, he will be eager to carry that momentum into the third day and stretch their lead into three figures and beyond.

The Seattle Seahawks have made their roster cuts to get from 91 players to 53. They'll keep working on their "70-man roster" by forming their practice squad on Monday, then tinker with the roster some more before Week 1 of the regular season kicks off against the New England Patriots.
Perhaps there's a reason why "Hard Knocks" sought to spotlight Foster from the second episode onward. Foster had an impressive training camp, a somewhat up-and-down preseason but with a few splash plays on offense and some down-and-dirty work on special teams, and he's been rewarded with a spot on the 53. Not bad for someone who just got his real estate license and spent time as a substitute teacher in Ohio.
For now, Foster is Seattle's fifth wide receiver, and while he may not have the blocking chops of Jake Bobo, he can replace his special teams value and maybe provide a little bit more of a route tree in his limited snaps on offense.
Foster is one of those players you root for to succeed, and it helps when his parents have both been a wonderful follow. Their son is now more than just a Seahawks training camp body.
With the caveat that Mason Richman's ACL tear probably shuffled the numbers a tad, Seattle opted to keep both Bryce Cabeldue and Christian Haynes as backup guards. Haynes looked to be in jeopardy of leaving the Seahawks when Beau Stephens was drafted, but instead he enters 2026 off the best camp and preseason of his career. Cabeldue ******* umed a few snaps at center, just as he (and Haynes) did last year.

Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement in principle to sign Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye, according to The Athletic.
Spurs striker Richarlison is also set to return to his former club in a separate move. The deals are not connected.
Both remain subject to personal terms and medicals as Tottenham look to complete a major overhaul of their attacking options before the transfer window closes.
Ndiaye emerged as a key target for Spurs after their pursuit of Cody Gakpo stalled.
Several Premier League giants had also shown interest in the Senegal international but he is now on his way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Here's the first surprise of New Orleans Saints roster cuts. Third-year wide receiver Bub Means, the team's 2024 fifth-round draft pick, will be waived per Nick Underhill for NewOrleans.Football. Means made the cut for our 53-man roster projection but the Saints are going in a different direction as they fill out their receiving corps.
Means, 25, played college football at Tennessee and Louisiana Tech before transferring to Pittsburgh, where he truly broke out with 41 catches for 721 yards and six touchdowns in 2023. He has good speed for someone his size but struggled with durability -- his 2024 rookie year ended with a high-ankle sprain in November, and a preseason injury sidelined him for all of 2025.
Maybe Means returns for the practice squad, **** uming he clears waivers. He got off to a hot start this summer but couldn't keep his momentum going when the preseason games started, and by the time training camp came to a close he was losing targets in team drills to other receivers on the depth chart. We'll see how things shake out once the Saints (and other teams) finish navigating injured reserve decisions and begin filling out their practice squads early this week. Few players can run like he can (timing the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds) at his size (6-foot-1 and 212 pounds). Don't be shocked if another team snaps him up.

I know the inclination is to just hand the championship to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but let's hold on a few minutes before doing that. They aren't the only MLB team built best for a deep postseason run, so let's dig into those teams.

Yes, I know, here's the low-hanging fruit. Shohei Ohtani isn't pitching and hasn't since July 3rd, but who cares? The Dodgers simply traded for Tarik Skubal and activated Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow off the Injured List. BYU shook up its athletic department on Thursday, splitting football off from the other 20 sports.
Head football coach Kalani Sitake will report directly to a university vice president while athletic director Brian Santiago will oversee the remaining programs.
The decision's dramatic timing, nine days before the season's first football game, underscored both the hurtling rate of change in college sports and rumors about friction between Sitake and Santiago.
"BYU Athletics shares a common focus on helping our student-athletes succeed not just on the field, but also in the classroom and, most importantly, in their Christian discipleship," advancement vice president Keith Vorkink said in a statement.

It would appear New York Giants defenders aren't too happy with running back Cam Skattebo after he started another fight at practice on Wednesday.
According to the New York Daily News' Pat Leonard, Skattebo got into it with cornerback Greg Newsome after nearly taking out multiple Giants defensive backs with a slide after making a catch on one rep.
Leonard adds that Skattebo's "act is getting old" with his defensive teammates, especially after he "ran over linebacker Zaire Barnes" at an earlier practice.
"Cam Skattebo started a fight in practice today. He slid down after a reception and came dangerously close to taking out a couple Giants DBs' legs. The defense isn't allowed to hit," Leonard wrote.

The Detroit Tigers looked to stop their six-game losing streak in their Tuesday-night tilt against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. They did exactly that by hitting a timely home run and taking advantage of some shaky defence in a 4-1 win to even the three-game series at a win apiece.
Jackson Jobe made his fourth start of the year for the Tigers. The previous three had alternated good, bad and good, and the pitch count has been gradually ramping-up; his previous start saw him throw 86 pitches. He hasn't been striking out many so far — heck, Framber Valdez didn't strike anyone out on Monday night — but, like Valdez, he succeeds when he gets hitters to bash the ball into the ground.
Casey Legumina, a lefty, opened for Ian Seymour, a lefty. Both Legumina and Seymour have started some and relieved some, although Legumina is more of a reliever and Seymour is more of a starter and/or "bulk guy." Seymour has generally been pretty solid, mostly in a starting role for the past two months. Strikeouts are not a problem for him; he tends to get more fly ***** hit than the average pitcher, although he generally limits hard contact and has kept his hard-hit percentage below average. Would that play out well in cavernous Comerica National Park? Mostly, but not entirely; decidedly, even.
Things started off pretty quietly for both teams, with Jobe looking generally good but having trouble with his control. As we've discussed before, the recovery from Tommy John surgery often sees pitchers taking a little longer to get that control back… and that's what's happening here. Gleyber Torres made a nice play, though.

SAN FRANCISCO – Not that there's ever a good time for a big-league pitcher to have his worst career start.
But when Chase Burns headed off the mound in the fourth inning after a loud-contact, 5-0 loss to the woeful San Francisco Giants, his best shot at surviving the National League Cy Young race might have exited with him.
The Cincinnati Reds' All-Star right-hander in his first full season in the majors gave up two runs before he got an out and five before he got a sixth out against a lefty-packed Giants lineup that squared up so many of his pitches that even the outs were loud – not to mention the foul ball Turner Hill belted into the bay.
The last time the Giants' lineup looked that good, Buster Posey was in it as an All-Star catcher – not running it into the ground as a second-year head of baseball operations.

NEW DELHI: Yashasvi Jaiswal's heated on-field confrontation with Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando on the opening day of the second Test in Colombo drew criticism from former India all-rounder Ajay Jadeja, who warned the young opener that physical contact crosses a dangerous line.

Jaiswal was dismissed for 45 by Fernando in the first session at the SSC ground after the Sri Lankan pacer had conceded three boundaries to the left-hander in the over. Fernando responded with a send-off as Jaiswal began walking back to the pavilion, prompting the India opener to turn around and confront the bowler.

The exchange quickly escalated, with the two players trading words before coming face-to-face. Jaiswal's helmet made contact with Fernando's forehead, and there was also a push before Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva and other players intervened to separate them.
Jadeja, speaking on Sony Sports, criticised Jaiswal for taking the confrontation too far and drew a comparison with an earlier incident involving the Indian opener and Sri Lanka's Niroshan **** wella.

"It is dangerous territory. There is no doubt about that. Physical contact is a different thing. In the last match, Jaiswal was on the other side. He was fielding, and he said things to Niroshan **** wella, and we said that banter is nice as long as there is nothing wrong with your language," Jadeja said on Sony Sports.

He then stressed that players who engage in banter must also be prepared to receive it.

"The same thing happened, but if someone cannot laugh at himself, he shouldn't laugh at others. If you can't take it back, don't say it to others either while standing on the ground," he added.

Jadeja's comments came after Jaiswal's confrontation with Fernando turned physical, putting the India batter under the scrutiny of match officials and potentially the ICC Code of Conduct.
India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak also acknowledged that Jaiswal should not have moved so close to Fernando, although he suggested the exchange was the result of emotions running high.

"I think the bowler must have made some comment, and it was probably said in the heat of the moment. Obviously, I don't think Jaiswal should have gone that close, but these things happen in the heat of the moment," Kotak said.

Kotak reiterated his **** sment in the post-day press conference, saying the exchange could have been triggered by something Fernando said.

"I think they must have said something to him and it might have happened in the heat of the moment. Obviously, Jaiswal, I don't think he should have been so close (to Fernando), but that happens when you are in the heat of the moment," Kotak said.
Sri Lanka fast bowling coach Ryan van Niekerk declined to comment on any possible punishment and left the matter to match referee Andy Pycroft.

"The verbals are probably an overflow of emotion. I'll leave that to the match referee to deal with," he said.

Jevon Holland didn't need to take the field to make an impact against his former team.
After the New York Giants cruised to a 26-3 preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins, Holland made his feelings about the result clear with a short message aimed at his former team.
Holland spent his first four NFL seasons with Miami after the Dolphins selected him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He became an important part of their defense before leaving in free agency and signing with the Giants.
Because the Giants and Dolphins play in different conferences and are not scheduled to meet during the 2026 NFL regular season, the preseason matchup gave Holland an early opportunity to face his former team in a different setting.

Each of those three are returning starters on the Crimson Tide's defense, two of which are defensive backs in senior safety Bray Hubbard and junior cornerback Zabien Brown. Yhonzae Pierre, a senior outside linebacker, was also part of the preseason watch list.
The Bednarik Award is presented annually to the nation's top defensive player in college football. Alabama has seen three players receive the honor previously in Jonathan Allen (2016), Minkah Fitzpatrick (2017), and most recently, Will Anderson Jr. (2022).
Of the three, Hubbard is Alabama's top returning tackler from a year ago with 79 total, with the safety leading the SEC with four interceptions. Brown, who recorded 39 tackles, led college football with two interceptions returned for a touchdown, while Pierre was Alabama's sack and TFL leader a year ago with eight and 14.5, respectively.

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has already seen a difference from how coach Sean Payton and offensive coordinator Davis Webb operate behind the headset.
"I think it's obviously different," Nix said on Monday. "They're two different play callers, and they're two different people. They're going to have different mannerisms."
One of the biggest stories of the offseason for the Broncos was Webb taking the playcalling reins from Payton. After all, Webb was one of the hottest coaching candidates of the 2026 NFL coaching cycle.
Nix described Payton as straight to the point. "I think Sean did a really good job my first couple years not distracting me with different things, and not being extra and just giving me the play," Nix said. "He would give me a few reminders if I needed them, but really it was just the play, and he kept me in it and it was very beneficial for me as a young kid getting in the league."
On the flip side, Webb has a more "fun" approach to playcalling. "Now I think with Davis, he understands where I'm at on my level, and he can also push me, give me a little bit more, and also be a little extra at times," Nix said. "He's always going to be the guy that sends me a joke in every once in a while and sort of keeps it lighthearted. Just as serious as this game is, it can also be fun at the same time."

IndyCar's Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham was seen by 913,000 viewers on Fox. The inaugural street race, which saw Andretti Global's Marcus Ericsson capture his first win in three years, outdid last year's Toronto race – which was viewed by 734,000.
The race peaked with 1.081 million viewers from 2:15 to 2:30 p.m. before Ericsson passed Romain Grosjean for the lead on Lap 86 of the 90-lap race. It was IndyCar's most-viewed Toronto-area race since 2012, when 1.129 million watched Dario Franchitti win in the Exhibition Place neighborhood.
IndyCar's first weekend at Markham faced a lot of scrutiny after the race's promoter, Green Savoree Racing Promotions, didn't have the new street course prepared for IndyCar and support series practice sessions Friday. The race moved to Markham after spending 37 of the last 40 seasons in Exhibition Place. With World Cup matches taking place at BMO Field this year and the downtown Toronto race being a rolling one-year contract, IndyCar moved to a suburb 20 miles out, where the series is set to race for another four years.
Fox is averaging 1.731 million viewers, which is up 16% from last year through 14 races (1.486 million). Aug. 9's Grand Prix of Portland received only 677,000 viewers – a 5% decrease from 2025.
IndyCar is in its second year of having all its races broadcast on Fox's network channel. Last summer, Fox acquired a one-third stake in Penske Entertainment, IndyCar's parent company. Markham marked the third straight race below 1 million viewers after eight of the first 11 races of the season surpassed 1 million (and only one was below 900,000). The Music City Grand Prix on July 20 had 775,000 viewers, although rain delay coverage following the men's FIFA World Cup final reached 2.878 million viewers.

Diego Simeone has made it "perfectly clear" that Julian Alvarez will not be joining wither ****** nal or Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
The Atletico Madrid forward is set to miss Wednesday's La Liga opener against Malaga after agitating for a move away in recent months.
Barcelona registered their interest in the Argentina international while he was at the FIFA World Cup and ****** nal are also said to be interested in him as they are in the market for a top-class left-sided attacker.
Earlier this summer, Atleti CEO Miguel Angel Gil insisted the club did not want to sell Alvarez and would not even consider a £170 million offer.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Simeone reiterated the owner's stance and said the 26-year-old is staying put.

The Vikings lost safety/linebacker Jamal Adams to a torn quad tendon during Saturday's preseason opener at the Giants. And even though the recently-signed Adams will not play this season, he'll be a big part of the team in 2026.
"Just from what he had meant to us in such a short amount of time, he's had such a great impact," Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters regarding the 10-year veteran. "I compliment [G.M.] Nolan [Teasley] for, you know, that was — Nolan was really excited about making that move, and just the dialogue between him and myself and [defensive coordinator Brian Flores], and then watching Flo, you know, put together the plan of attack for him and a real role that was kind of really coming together."
Teasley knew Adams from their time together in Seattle.
"He'll have that procedure to have that fixed, and then he's gonna be with us all season long," O'Connell said regarding Adams. "I think it's really important that Jamal knows, and I've talked . . . both to him and his family, about just his impact on this organization, his ability to help young players, his ability to be a real beacon of energy, and once, obviously, he's gonna be focused on getting healthy and getting the initial early stages of his rehab going, but we're gonna have him with us. You guys will see him around, see him out here, see him around the building. Because he's a Minnesota Viking now, and we want to make sure that he knows how important he'll be to our players and team."
It's unfortunate that Adams won't be able to play, but the team's willingness to embrace him will help fill the void created by a season that was lost before it even began.
