Manchester City have confirmed that Josko Gvardiol has signed a new long-term contract.
The new deal will keep the Croatian centre-back at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031, with the option of a further one-year extension.
The new agreement ends speculation over Gvardiol's future. Several clubs across Europe were interested in Gvardiol but verbally agreed to remain at City before jetting off for the World Cup.
Gvardiol returned to Manchester earlier this week to finalise the deal.
During negotiations, Gvardiol was guaranteed a place as one of the most important players in the squad as City prepare for a new era under Enzo Maresca.

The 23XI Racing driver became the first competitor in NASCAR's modern era to win the season's opening three races, collected five victories through the first 15 events and built what once seemed like a commanding lead atop the regular-season standings.
Six races later, that advantage is gone.
After a difficult stretch that included bad luck, mechanical issues and crashes, Reddick now trails Denny Hamlin in the battle for the regular-season championship entering Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Prior to the Class 7A state championship football game last December, Lake Mary athlete Tavarius 'TJ' Brundidge Jr., was a little-known college prospect with plenty of upside, but little exposure.
After taking a handoff from teammate Barrett Schulz and scoring the game-winning touchdown during a Hail Mary-pass play from quarterback Noah Grubbs, Brundidge became an overnight star.
"I've been having to hold myself to a higher standard, really keep my head high and be humble. I don't want that one play to dictate my whole future," Brudidge said. "I want to show people what I can really do."
He can play receiver or running back and he showed some glimpses of what he can do in the Rams' 24-24 spring-game tie against Jones, scoring on a 60-yard, catch-and-run pass play from quarterback Remy Jarman. Brundidge scored two touchdowns in the game.

Former Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia is now looking for a new NFL home. Why is that?
Well, the Baltimore Ravens waived Pavia ahead of training camp, a clear indication the rookie quarterback failed to make enough of an impact to justify the roster spot needed to contend for the 53-man roster.
Pavia will now be subject to waivers, meaning another team could pick him up to compete in training camp. However, if he passes through waivers, he will be eligible to sign elsewhere as a free agent.
We're not quite sure what put Pavia on the outs in Baltimore, but his cut is just a matter of losing the depth chart competition for where the Ravens' quarterback room is at this time.

On April 27, 2023, with the NFL Draft being held at Kansas City's Union Station, the Chiefs announced a selection that had the look of a generational feel-good story.
Coming off of a victory months earlier in Super Bowl LVII, team chairman Clark Hunt took the stage to announce the final selection in the first round. Kansas State edge rusher Felix Anudike-Uzomah — a Lee's Summit, Missouri, native who was actually in the hometown crowd that night — joined the Chiefs.
Three years later, unfortunately, the move has aged poorly.
Anudike-Uzomah was relegated to a rotational role over his first two seasons and delivered only three career sacks. He then missed his third season after a preseason hamstring injury a year ago.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Former England forward Mason Greenwood signed for Fenerbahce to join his third club in three years since being banished from the Manchester United team.
Fenerbahce said in a statement late Tuesday it will pay Marseille 39 million euros ($44.5 million) and gave the 24-year-old Greenwood a four-year contract.
"It was a no-brainer when they (were) interested in me," said Greenwood, who had been pursued by Atletico Madrid, in a video message posted by his new club. "It's the biggest club in Turkey and I can't wait to get started."
Fenerbahce has not won the Turkish league since 2014, while fierce city rival Galatasaray has captured seven ****** les in that time including the last four.
As runner-up last season, Fenerbahce starts its Champions League campaign next week in the second qualifying round, hosting Gornik Zabrze in the first leg.

Josh Allen has a new fan club and they've been some of his harshest critics in the past.
The Buffalo Bills popular signal-caller was ranked the No. 1 NFL quarterback by league executives, coaches and scouts, according to ESPN.
It is the first time the talented Allen has grabbed the top spot in the annual anonymous survey of NFL front office and coaching staff.
"He's the most singularly unstoppable player at the position when you get his A-game," one unidentified GM said. "And he has cut down on the turnovers the past two seasons."
Despite taking a small step back from the 2024 season that saw him win the NFL MVP award, Allen finally managed to pass Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes for top billing. Mahomes has led ESPN's preseason survey for the previous three years.

TROY, N.Y. — As he typically does, Howie Rose struck the perfect chord in a pre-recorded video message shared here at the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony Sunday night.
"It's impossible to have a New York State Hockey Hall of Fame and not include Nicky Fotiu," the former New York Rangers broadcaster, and current Voice of the Mets, said.
That issue, as it were, was laid to rest this weekend, when the popular Staten Island-born former Rangers forward was inducted with the rest of the Class of 2026. Fittingly, he was enshrined alongside his Blueshirts teammate from the 1970s and '80's Don Maloney, and 1994 Stanley Cup-winning Rangers general manager Neil Smith.
"Now, it's all done. Signed, sealed, delivered," Fotiu told Forever Blueshirts, wearing a big smile. "New York State Hall of Fame. Staten Island Hall of Fame. Rangers Hall of Fame. I'm running out of Hall of Fames!"
Now 74 years old, Fotiu still has a lot of that kid left in him — the one who plays practical jokes, tells great stories, is everyone's friend, and loves the Rangers. Outfielder Owen Hull is heading to the Boston Red Sox after being selected with the No. 67 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft.
Hull joins shortstop Jake Schaffner, whom Boston drafted No. 20 overall in the first round, giving the Red Sox a pair of former North Carolina stars. Fittingly, Hull was ranked No. 67 on MLB.com’s Top 250 prospects list.
Hull earned his first first-team All-America nod after a standout season at the plate, hitting .393 with 103 hits, 27 doubles and 87 RBIs. His RBI and hit totals ranked second in the NCAA, while his doubles were third nationally. He finished just four RBIs shy of breaking Colin Moran’s single-season program record of 91, set in 2013.
In ACC play, Hull hit .432 with 45 RBIs and a .504 on-base percentage, earning first-team All-ACC honors in May.
Hull stayed hot in the postseason. He hit .479 (23-for-48) with 12 RBIs across 12 NCAA Tournament games, highlighted by a walk-off double in the ninth inning of Game 3 of the Chapel Hill Super Regional that sent the Tar Heels to Omaha. Oracle Park continues to be a difficult venue for the Colorado Rockies, as the offense faltered in an 8-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Thursday night. The Rockies have now lost seven straight in San Francisco as the Giants put away a close game with a late-game rally.
The woes of pitching at Oracle Park stung Ryan Feltner once again as he labored through 4.1 innings. From the start of the game, it was apparent that Feltner didn’t have the command he had shown over his last couple of outings. Despite long at-bats and big misses on his pitches, Feltner was able to mitigate trouble early on, however.
After retiring the first two batters he faced in the first inning, breakout star Casey Schmitt hit a solo home run to give the Giants an early 1-0 lead. Feltner then worked around two walks in the second inning and delivered a 1-2-3 third.

On what was supposed to be a night on the bench, Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers unexpectedly had to step up and deliver Wednesday, July 8.
The Tigers' backup catcher had to spring to action in the bottom of the second inning after All-Star Dillon Dingler exited with an apparent right-hand injury.
Rogers quickly turned on a 91 mph fastball from Athletics starters Jeffrey Springs for a two-run home run, his second of the season.
The Tigers added three more insurance runs on a three-run blast from first baseman Spencer Torkelson in the fifth inning. The two long ****** were more than enough run support in a strong start from right-hander Troy Melton for a 6-1 win for the Tigers over the Athletics at Comerica Park.
Melton gave up one unearned run with nine strikeouts and one walk issued across 5⅓ innings. He is 5-1 and lowered his season ERA to 1.82.

Arthur Fery will play Alexander Zverev for a place in the Wimbledon final on Friday after the British wildcard kept his remarkable tournament alive with a stunning straight-sets victory over Flavio Cobolli.
Fery, 23, is just the second wildcard to reach the Wimbledon men’s semi-finals, after the 2001 champion Goran Ivanisevic. He arrived at Wimbledon ranked 114th in the world and with just two grand slam victories to his name.
But he became just the fifth British man to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon in the open era, thrashing the ninth seed and French Open runner-up Cobolli 6-4 7-6 (4) 6-0. After he raced towards the finish line, Fery fell to his back and said: “It just gets better and better.”
Up next for Fery, who won a match at this year’s Wimbledon in straight-sets for the first time after battling from behind in his previous four victories, is the second seed Zverev.

Childhood tennis coaches of Britain's Arthur Fery have told the BBC they are "super proud" of their former pupil as he prepares for his first Wimbledon quarter-final against Italy's Flavio Cobolli.
Fery, 23, lived in Wimbledon as a child and has come "full circle" by playing in the Championships, his former Westside Tennis Club coach Tinus Nortje said.
"A local player who grew up here. For him to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon is just unbelievable."
Fery, ranked 114th in the world, beat Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov in five sets in the last 16 on Monday after entering the tournament on a wild card and is believed to be the first British wild card to reach the quarter-finals.

Strip away the marketing timing and there's a substantial program underneath. Here's what's actually beneath that cover, pulled from Ford's own materials and the championship's rulebook rather than paddock rumor.
Ford's own release confirms the car uses a 5.4-liter naturally aspirated V8, designed and built in Dearborn, sharing its architecture with the V8 Ford already races in the Mustang Dark Horse R, GT4 and GT3. Program boss Dan Sayers says it's already turning promising numbers on the dyno. What Ford has pointedly not published is a horsepower figure — and that isn't coyness, it's the regulations.
The Hypercar class doesn't reward building the most powerful thing you can. The FIA and ACO cap combined output at 500 kW — roughly 680 horsepower — and set a minimum weight of 1,030 kg, then lean on Balance of Performance to squeeze the whole field toward the same lap time. So whether Ford's 5.4 makes 700 or 900 on the bench is almost beside the point: once it races, it'll be pegged to the same ceiling as a Ferrari's turbo V6 or a Cadillac's V8 and balanced against them. The engineering that actually wins here is fuel efficiency, cooling, reliability, and how little you give away over 24 hours — not a dyno headline.
