Recent trade acquisition Jaylen Brown is preparing for the 2026-27 NBA season, his first with the Philadelphia 76ers. Ahead of training camp, the former Boston Celtics forward was seen working out with famous shooting instructor Chris "Lethal Shooter" Matthews. Before Matthews became a famous coach, he played for Washington State and St. Bonaventure and also spent time in the NBA G-League.
In a video posted to social media, Brown was knocking down consecutive long-range attempts, giving Philadelphia fans something to cheer about prior to the team's season opener in October. Brown, who led the league in two-pointers attempted last season, is a career 35.8% shooter from beyond the arc. Last season, Brown shot slightly below that figure, converting on 34.7% of 3-point attempts.

The Boston Celtics have reportedly signed Devin Carter to a training camp deal, per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. Carter, 24, will have the opportunity to either earn a spot on Boston's main NBA roster or to join Amari Williams and Dillon Mitchell as one of the Celtics' three two-way talents. Should he sign a two-way deal, he would be expected to spend the majority of the season with the Maine Celtics. Still, it's fair to ******* ume he'd get a chance to impress with the NBA roster at some point, too.
Unfortunately, the decision to sign Carter doesn't come without a potential roster casualty. Milos Uzan has been with the Celtics since signing an Exhibit 10 contract earlier this summer. Uzan instantly impressed when suiting up for the Celtics during Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4 ******* ists per game, shooting 36.8 percent from 3-point range and 38.1 percent from the field.
Following John Tonje's decision to join the Portland Trail Blazers on a two-way deal earlier in the offseason, the path for Uzan to earn the final two-way spot with the Celtics appeared wide open. Sure, he'd have to impress during training camp and beat out Tucker DeVries, but given Boston's need for a depth piece at guard, everything seemed to be lining up.
Now, with Carter also in the mix, Uzan is facing a far tougher battle to prove himself and earn a two-way spot with the Celtics. Uzan is a talented young guard and should have no problem finding a home in the coming months if things do not go his way.
Hopefully, he remains in Maine regardless of whether he gets a two-way deal. After all, he could still work with the Celtics' developmental staff and potentially prove the front office wrong for signing Carter, should that come to pass. Boston has its 15th roster spot open and the cap ****** e to add another player, but Carter also has two-way eligibility. How things go in training camp may determine his status, although the more likely outcome is that he starts the season on a two-way and that contract may convert to a standard one.
Carter, a lottery pick out of Providence, played his two NBA seasons with the Kings (who traded him to Atlanta this summer in a salary dump). Due to a variety of injuries (shoulder, ankle, calf and back), Carter played in 74 games across those two seasons, and last season averaged 8.9 points per game when he did get on the court.
Carter needs to answer two questions in Celtics training camp. First, can he stay healthy and on the court? Second, has he improved his 3-point shooting? Carter has shot 27.4% from beyond the arc in the NBA, and Boston is a 3-point-happy team under Joe Mazzulla, Carter needs to show he can be part of that.

The 2026-27 season is quickly approaching for the Philadelphia 76ers as they have their eyes on ending a long ***** le drought after the big additions made in the offseason. The Sixers will field one of the more talented rosters in the league and will look to get to the mountaintop in 2027.
It's now time to look ahead to the new season and time to break down each position for the Sixers in an effort to preview what the season might look like. Sixers Wire will look at the centers now and take a look at what the Sixers bring to the table at the position:
Sure, the Sixers have some shiny new players in Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, but all of this still comes down to the health of Joel Embiid. The big fella is still a dominant player when he can get on the floor as evidenced by his 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.9 ***** ists he averaged in 38 games in the 2025-26 season. Embiid being able to return early from an appendectomy completely changed that Round 1 series with Boston when the Sixers rallied from a 3-1 deficit. He averaged 28.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 7.0 ***** ists in Round 1 against the Celtics as he spurred the rally for Philadelphia.
When Embiid is right, there aren't many players in the league who can slow him down. He has lost a step defensively as a result of the injuries and surgeries he's had to undergo has robbed him of a lot of speed and athleticism, but Embiid is so smart and able to find new ways to be effective on defense. He is still one of the top players in the game and should be treated as such. If he's right and healthy, the Sixers take an even bigger leap forward.
The Sixers will rely on third-year big man Adem Bona as they did in the 2025-26 season. He averaged 4.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks as he was able to establish himself in coach Nick Nurse's rotation. He's due an extension that's going to be about $22 million a year. And I think it could be what he decides to produce this year, but I also think he has shown enough where you do give him that $22 million per year. The 2024-25 Boston Celtics set the NBA single-season three-point record with 1,457 makes across 82 games. Three different Celtics players made at least 250 threes that season, something no team had ever seen before. The question heading into 2026-27 is whether the Hornets can break the NBA three-point record.
Analyst Tom Haberstroh specifically named Charlotte as a genuine contender. Looking at the roster, it is not hard to see why.
" I think this Charlotte Hornets team, even though they lost LaMelo Ball, who was at times the most high-volume scorer, shooter in the NBA from downtown, still, I think this team, dude, I think they have a chance to break the three-point record next year," Haberstroh said on The Kevin O'Connor Show. "You got Coby White, who's a 95, 96 percentile volume three-point shooter. Good three-point shooter off the dribble. Kon Knueppel, we already know; the fact that he led the league in threes as a rookie is insane. Brandon Miller, also a high-volume three-point shooter."

Regret is not an emotion that you often hear an NBA player admit to. But there is one thing in a career in the ***** ociation that can trigger that admission – the lost time and potential created by injuries. And such was the case for Boston Celtics forward alum Danilo Gallinari, who tore his ACL in international play just weeks before the Celtics held the training camp he was supposed to be joining the storied ball club for in pursuit of a ***** le.
Gallo spoke to HoopsHype contributor Cyro ***** eo about that era and the Italian forward's feelings about it in a recent interview, "I always go back to my two ACLs," said Gallinari. "The two ACL injuries that happened to me happened in the only two times where I played for a championship-caliber team. Because it happened my third season in Denver and when I signed with the Celtics, which was my only second chance to get to the championship, so those are the only two moments that were not based on something that I did."
"I got injured, but I couldn't control can't control injuries that much," said the former Celtics forward. "So it would be those two moments."
As for which of the two ACL tears were tougher, it was his injury ahead of his tenure with Boston that impacted him the most. "I think the second one was definitely tougher because I did it at 34 instead of 24," he explained. "So when you do it at 24, your body reacts in a different way, so the second one was tougher."
"And the mental part, I think, is always tougher than the physical part because the body will adapt, will react, but the mind sometimes goes back to the same move that you did that you got injured with, and so it's the mental part."

Ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season, the Warriors have revealed some new threads. Golden State is one of eight teams to receive new "Specter" jerseys from Nike. The Warriors' edition is prominently black with blue stripes on the right side and yellow number outlines. The seven other teams to receive "Specter" jerseys are the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings. The "Specter" jersey was meant as a way to celebrate some of the league's oldest NBA teams.
Since the release, fans have had mixed reviews on the new uniforms, but most overall comments have been negative. When the Warriors will debut these jerseys has not yet been revealed. Charles Barkley issued a stern warning to other NBA backcourt players regarding their postseason performance during his recent appearance on "The Bill Simmons Show". Barkley also compared the Spurs' young guards to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

It's been roughly three months since the New York Knicks became champions of the basketball world. For the first time in 53 years, and after long stretches of misery, the franchise finally reached the pinnacle of success, but the journey was not easy.
In fact, throughout the playoffs, the Knicks found themselves down big on several occasions, only to mount amazing comebacks that defined their run. Recently, Knicks swingman Mikal Bridges spoke about the comebacks and the conditions that made it possible to survive overwhelming odds.
"The Cavs series, that Game 1, being down 22 in the 4th. Last year in the playoffs, being down a lot," said Bridges in a chat with Men's Health. "We had opportunities where we had been in the same situations and succeeded. It's having that faith of being here before. Obviously, it's different being in the Finals than any other playoff series, but it's still just another game. It's just having that belief and taking it one possession at a time; we've been here before, we've done it before. Ain't gonna get it back in one possession, still a lot of time left. A lot of us have been in the league for a long time, and we know in this day and age, with the fast pace and a lot of threes, that even down 27 points at halftime, you still have a lot of time. And being at home, having the crowd behind your back, it's gonna put pressure on them."
The Knicks went 53-29 in the 2025-26 season, and most critics had them a tier below the Cavaliers, Celtics, and Pistons in the East. In the playoffs, however, the Knicks dominated the field, going 16-3 in an impressive performance. September has arrived. The offseason is almost over. Right now, these are the final weeks of serenity until the 2026-27 regular season arrives. Once the marathon starts, the next nine months will be packed with games on an almost every-night basis.
Now that the summer is about over, we can safely say the Philadelphia 76ers had the brightest fireworks that rival the 4th of July night. They completely transformed their team with the additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown. Alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese and VJ Edgecombe, it's easily the most star-studded starting five in the league.
The Sixers were part of arguably the two biggest moves of the offseason. First, they shocked the NBA world with a blockbuster deal. They landed Brown from the Boston Celtics for Paul George and four future draft picks. Fresh off a career year that saw him gain MVP buzz, the 2024 NBA Finals MVP joins an arch-rival.
Later on, Philadelphia eventually — to everybody's surprise — became the winner of the final James sweepstakes. The 41-year-old showed last season that he still has mileage left on his tires. Davis says the NBA picked him over other retired players mentioned in the investigation, leading him to spend nearly two years in prison in addition to three years of supervision. Big Baby expressed his frustration with the process that led to his imprisonment while others mentioned in the indictment, including his former Boston Celtics teammates Kendrick Perkins and Tony Allen, didn't, he explained, per Locked In with Ian Bick. "They literally wanted to make me out to be an example. There was a lot of people that got investigated," Davis said. "Kendrick Perkins, you see him on ESPN. Tony Allen—he was literally the third person on the indictment, with his wife. He's not walking in jail. Darius Miles—he's not walking in jail. And these guys got money, like thousands of dollars. How'd I end up in jail and these guys are on probation/walking free; their whole life is still intact. "I think the NBA let the feds pick who they wanted to choose. 180 people were investigated/supenoed. We didn't hear about all those people. We just heard about the 22 people that got caught, or that got jammed in the situation. A lot of people pleaded out. They didn't go to jail. They didn't even go get time served."

The Boston Celtics have a long tradition of giving back to the city they play their NBA basketball in, and reserve forward Jordan Walsh helped keep that tradition going with a back-to-school event held this past Thursday (Sep. 3) that saw 15 youths from the area treated to a shopping spree at a local sporting goods store, as well as free haircuts from ****** le City Barbers and free sneakers from New Balance.
Walsh has been leading this event annually since he was picked up by Boston in the 2023 NBA Draft. "I think that if you have the opportunity to give back, then you should," offered the DeSoto, Texas native via team reporter Taylor Snow. "I think there needs to be a lot more people who are going out of their comfort zone, who are in places of power or in places where they can motivate other people, and use their platform for good."
"It should always be something that you keep in the back of your mind because you weren't born at the top, you weren't born at the level you're at," he added. "So if you had to grind to get there, there's people who are trying to grind get there as well. So you should show your support and love, and try to support them doing the same thing."
Walsh isn't just appreciative of that ethos from afar; he has been applying it to his own journey as a player as well. "It means that instead of just being a guy who comes into the league and is gone after three years, that I have some security to stick around," he said.
"There are bigger things that I want to achieve, but it's huge keeping that door open to be able to achieve the things that I want to get to," he added. "I want to be able to contribute, and I want to be able to create my own shots (and) ... to be able to be called on when we need to get a bucket, and also still do the same things on defense that I've been doing, because that's what got me here."

Few among us know NBA basketball like the players who make up that league. And while that may not come as much of a surprise to most fans of the sport, the fact that recency bias can warp the perception of historical greatness ought to not come as much of a shock either given not all of us (NBA stars or otherwise) are scholars of league history.
So when new Minnesota Timberwolves guard LaMelo Ball paid former Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown near the top of the mountain when it comes to all-time great Celtics on a recent episode of the semi-eponymous "Ball in the Family" podcast, one can hardly blame him, especially considering he was not all that far from the truth. "I have got to see all the accolades," said Ball (h/t to Yahoo Sports' Gautam Varier) with an understandable caveat, "but if you line up Boston's best players ever, he's in my top five."
Now if you were to say top at his position, that would be a more reasonable argument given the existence of players like Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Jo Jo White, Dave Cowens, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett. There are reasonable arguments to rank him three or maybe even four of those names, but after that it gets tough given all these Hall of Fame players accomplished in Boston. Ball seemed to acknowledge this dynamic, shifting the frame to a more positional one.

Backup Boston Celtics wing Hugo Gonzalez and his Spanish National Team dropped another contest in FIBA EuroBasket play on Monday, August 31 in a 108-106 overtime loss to the Greek National Team just days after dropping their first-ever EuroBasket tilt to Neemias Queta and the Portuguese National Team.
It was another dud for Gonzalez in terms of offensive efficiency, the Madrid native putting up just 4 points on 1-of-4 shooting overall (he also went 0-of-1 from beyond the arc and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line in the loss) along with chipping in 3 rebounds and an ***** ist. But with just under 11 minutes of floor time with Spain in this game, the defeat is not on the Boston reserve's shoulders, Spain's veteran players failing to hold up their end in the loss.
With the defeat, the Spanish National Team drops to 5-2 in EuroBasket play to date after back-to-back losses following a narrow win over the Georgian National Team in July.
Spain will next play the Montenegrin National Team at a time and location to be determined on Nov. 26, 2026.
They will almost certainly do so without Gonzalez, who will be playing for the Celtics in the 202-27 NBA regular season by that point of the year.

Joe Mazzulla has a tendency to garner attention for viral quotes he makes to media. The Boston Celtics head coach made headlines once again regarding the legacy he wants to leave behind when he retires in the distant future.
Mazzulla has been at the Celtics' helm since the start of the 2022-23 season, the first stint of his head coaching career. He led the franchise to the championship in 2024, shining as one of the best coaches in the league as well as one of the youngest.
Mazzulla recently appeared for an interview with Derin McMaim on the No Show Dogs podcast last week. It was there where he was honest about how he wants to be remembered in his career or, in his case, forgotten.
"If the people around you didn't do what they do… I wouldn't do anything. The thing I reflect on the most is… I think you have to be willing to be forgotten. I think that's kind of my main goal. I want to be forgotten about. Because that means after you… It was better. I think that's what it means to be a Celtic. However long you play, coach, work for the Celtics…"

Hours after Jaylen Brown was awarded the Key to the City and State by Boston's Mayor, the former Boston Celtics star sat down for a Twitch stream, where he discussed what comes next in his basketball career with the Philadelphia 76ers.
While talking about the process of moving from Boston to Philadelphia, he began discussing his expectations for 2026-27.
"I'm grateful to the city of Philadelphia already, and I haven't even been there that long. I'm grateful that they've been a warm embrace because, for me, it's all about respect. I'm a type of guy that's going to earn his respect. So all my Philly fans in the chat, send some love."
"I look forward to earning every ounce of respect from the city that I possibly can. I don't need no handouts. I don't need no special treatment, no catering, like not being somebody who the organization is always catering to or babying. I don't need none of that; I'm prepared for war," Brown said on Twitch.
