Sep. 12—The Washington State offense couldn't get out of its own way and the Cougar defense was ultimately powerless to slow Kansas State's march as the Wildcats rolled to a 34-7 nonconference football victory Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kan.
After going 0-for-11 on third down during the Apple Cup, the Cougars' opening script was encouraging.
Quarterback Caden Pinnick rocketed the rock to junior wide receiver Branden Ganashamoorthy and sophomore running back Maxwell Woods for a pair of first downs on WSU's opening drive, but it would be for naught as Cougar kicker Jack Stevens missed his third field goal of the season — matching the total number of misses from last year.
K-State completely snuffed out the Cougs after that, forcing a turnover on downs, nine punts and a forced fumble over the remainder of the game.
The lone bright spot for Wazzu on Saturday were the heroics of WSU safety Jaylen Thomas, who registered the first two interceptions of his college career.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight headliners Jean Silva and Jose Delgado came face-to-face Friday evening following the Noche UFC 4 ceremonial weigh-ins, held ahead of their main event tomorrow night (Sat., Sept. 12, 2026) inside Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Delgado quickly stormed onto the stage and soaked in a massive ovation from his hometown crowd. Silva, meanwhile, took his time—as usual—and initially hid his face from the fans.
When Silva finally stepped onto the scale and struck his pose, he revealed that his face had been painted like a sugar skull.
The two Featherweights then got directly in each other's faces. Silva unleashed his trademark bark, but Delgado refused to take the bait, standing his ground and staring straight through the Brazilian contender.

New England Patriots WR A.J. Brown (ankle) is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks because of the high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 1.
SOURCE: Ian Rapoport – NFL Network
Why It Matters: Brown is a candidate for the Reserve/Injured list since he will miss at least four weeks. Romeo Doubs should be the main receiver for the time being, while DeMario Douglas and Hunter Henry should be reliable short-area targets in the passing game. Mack Hollins will likely see a bigger workload and could be a possible flex option over the next few weeks. Kyle Williams could also see a role but is not a fantasy option yet.

Before we dive into the individual performance of Michigan Wolverines quarterback Bryce Underwood, we must first look at the ending of the game. Everyone who watched the end of Western Michigan at Michigan saw the clock hit 0:00, with the final score reading WMU 12, UM 7.
You saw Underwood throw a hail mary, on the game's final play, and it sailed out of bounds. The ball was live, with all zeroes on the clock. The Broncos were then set to enjoy a celebratory bus ride, across southwest Michigan, from Ann Arbor to Kalamazoo.
After all, they had just pulled off a 27 point upset over the #16 team in the nation.
There's indisputable video evidence, and you can use your own eyes and ears, to go see it all over the internet, right now.
But then came an official's review, which reversed the original call.

Saturday marked the debut of the Will Stein era for Kentucky Football, and boy, was it a fun one.
Thanks to six touchdowns and 506 yards of total offense, the Wildcats put this one out of reach early and never looked back en route to a 45-13 victory over Youngstown State.
The Penguins were held to a mere two touchdowns, while Kentucky had just two possessions that did not end with points
All in all, it was a great day of football in the Bluegrass to kick off what hopes to be a fun era under Coach Stein.
After the game, you could tell Stein was emotional about his first win as a head coach, even letting a few f-bombs drop during postgame interviews.

The NFL season is less than a week away from kicking off, beginning a new quest for Super Bowl LXI. There will also be a number of players under the microscope as fantasy football managers look to win their leagues.
One of those players some league managers are banking on to bounce back in a major way is Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. After a historic run in 2024, Barkley took a step back in 2025. In the grand scheme of things, the Eagles offense did as well.

Now, with Barkley's average draft position dropping in this year's fantasy outlook, ESPN's Field Yates believes he could be a late first-round steal. The big reason is that Barkley is poised to have a better season than he did in 2025, though perhaps not as dominant as his 2024 campaign.

The Houston Rockets locked up a member of their young core Thursday morning, agreeing to a five-year $208 million contract extension with Amen Thompson, which equates to an average annual value of $41.6 million per season. The deal also includes a 10% trade kicker if Thompson were to be moved in the future.
Overall this was a sound move made by Rockets general manager Rafael Stone. Signing Thompson well below the value of a max contract ($255 million) will give Houston more flexibility moving forward. Additionally, had the Rockets waited until next summer, Thompson may have had the chance to earn a supermax deal if he were to make an All-NBA Team, win an MVP award or win the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Considering one of those three outcomes isn't out of the realm of possibility, the Rockets saved even more money by reaching an agreement with Thompson as soon as they did.
With two seasons remaining on Kevin Durant's deal, Houston has put themselves in a position to succeed with their young core following his eventual retirement.

The NBA has stripped the Los Angeles Clippers of five first-round draft picks and fined owner Steve Ballmer $30 million at the conclusion of its probe into alleged salary cap circumvention with Kawhi Leonard.
The league is also fining Leonard $700,000.
The NBA announced the decision Wednesday.
The decision comes months after journalist Pablo Torre unveiled the possible violation during an episode of his podcast, "Pablo Torre Finds Out." During the program, Torre revealed an agreement between Leonard and a now-bankrupt company called Aspiration, in which Ballmer was heavily invested. The agreement paid Leonard $28 million to essentially do nothing. Ballmer was accused of using the $28 million deal as a way to circumvent the NBA salary cap and give Leonard more money to sign with the franchise.
On the day the story originally broke, the Clippers and Ballmer denied any wrongdoing, issuing a statement denying the allegations made by Torre.

Juventus have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano.
The 'talented' Senegal international will join Juventus in a deal worth up to €30 million, starting with an initial loan that includes an option to buy.
However, the option to buy will become mandatory if certain performance-related conditions are met, such as Juventus qualifying for the Champions League and Sarr reaching set appearance targets during the campaign.
Talks between the clubs accelerated after Sarr requested a new challenge away from North London.
The midfielder faced increased competition for places under Roberto De Zerbi following the additions of moves for Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

Some players have one final shot at making an impression to make the final 53.
Who are the guys to watch for final roster spots who likely will play?
The Cardinals have seemingly four receiver spots locked up. The other one or two spots are complete toss-ups. It could come down to any of these four players.

RANDOLPH − Chatham football endured two time changes and more than two hours in weather delays before a 42-12 win over Randolph on Aug. 27.
The game, which was scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m., was pushed back to 5:30 p.m. due to lightning, then pushed back again right after the national anthem. It kicked off around 6:45 p.m.
Randolph took an early lead when EJ Febles returned an interception 58 yards for a touchdown. Chatham blocked the extra point try to limit the deficit to 6-0.
Following the interception, Chatham quarterback Ryan Hogan led a pair of touchdown drives, including a 1-yard touchdown run to take the lead for good.
Trailing 28-12 in the third quarter, Randolph (0-1) attempted to shrink the deficit, but Charlie Stanley's interception return for a touchdown cemented the win for the Cougars (1-0).

The Detroit Lions defeated the Washington Commanders 17-13 on Saturday afternoon in their second preseason game of 2026. Obviously, the final score of the game matters little, but there were certainly developments during the game that were positive and negative.
We'll cover plenty of both over the next few days as we break down the film, advanced statistics, and individual plays, but for now, let's talk about the big-picture positives.
Today's Question of the Day is:
My answer: It has to be the continued strong play of the defensive line.
On Saturday, the Lions saw a ton of great play from their big guys on defense. Derrick Moore provided a sack in his first NFL action. Rookie Skyler Gill-Howard was a total menace as a pass rusher throughout the game. I thought it was a promising game from Levi Onwuzurike, Tyler Lacy, and although his chances were limited to the very end of the game, Eric O'Neill looked disruptive again. And starter DJ Wonnum kicked things off with a solid performance, including a sack.

It's an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said.

The NCHSAA football season began with a grudge match, as Seventy-First hosted Terry Sanford to avenge last year's heartbreaker in a 59-14 win.
Though the Bulldogs earned their only two scores in the first half, they began fast and explosive, delivering a punch in the mouth to the Falcons, scoring on the third play from scrimmage on a 86-yard pass from Will Lake to Sebastian O'Keefe to open the game.
But Seventy-First came back with a punch of its own after taking over on offense.
On the first play at the line of scrimmage, senior Division I recruit Shon Pone found a hole in the right side of the field and burst through for a 53-yard touchdown run.
As Terry Sanford began its second drive, the Bulldogs came right back with another O'Keefe score from six yards out. Then, it was all Seventy-First for the next three quarters.

New York Giants wide receiver Malachi Fields turned heads in his NFL preseason debut, ranking among the highest-graded rookies after Week 1, per Pro Football Focus metrics.
The third-round pick out of Notre Dame checked in at No. 11 overall with a 90.3 grade, the best mark among all Giants players in the 13-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Fields made an impact on just 10 receiving snaps against the Minnesota Vikings, catching three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown while averaging 3.40 yards per route run. He also showcased one of his best traits coming out of the draft, with two of his three receptions coming on contested catches.
Fields' efficiency and contested-catch ability stood out in limited opportunities, which also helped him earn a spot on PFF's Rookie Team of the Week.
Fellow first-year player Arvell Reese also delivered a standout performance. The fifth-overall selection and linebacker posted an 88.2 grade, the highest among all 2026 first-round rookies in Week 1 of the preseason.

The Toronto Blue Jays are getting hot at the right time.
Catcher Alejandro Kirk led the Blue Jays to a 10-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. Kirk finished the game 3-5 with a home run and three RBI. He added a single and a double to his line, missing the cycle by just a triple.
Kirk is not known for his speed, so his securing a triple to pull off the feat seemed a little far-fetched. He does have one triple in his career, hitting a three-bagger in 2024, ironically, against the Rays at Tropicana Field, where Tuesday night's game was held.
The Toronto catcher is having another solid season. Kirk came into Tuesday's game hitting .271 with a .351 on-base percentage. He had five home runs and 22 RBI in 50 games.
Toronto is starting to heat up down the stretch of the season. Tuesday's win was the Blue Jays' sixth win in their last eight games.

According to their ***** istant general manager Ed Dodds, the Indianapolis Colts currently plan on keeping backup quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr., as they intend on keeping three quarterbacks and aren't wanting to detract from their current team (via The Athletic's James Boyd).
Now, if the Colts had gotten meaningful trade value back in a swap for Richardson Sr., who requested a trade earlier this offseason, then he would realistically be elsewhere right now to that generous suitor. That being said, such a trade doesn't appear to have materialized, and while a significant quarterback injury could certainly happen, most teams already have their backup quarterback plans in place entering the second week of preseason.
Colts longtime general manager Chris Ballard indicated earlier this offseason that the Colts weren't simply going to give away Richardson Sr., still believing he has value and upside. To be fair too, their starting quarterback Daniel Jones is coming off a late season torn Achilles and hasn't exactly been an 'NFL ironman' himself, even dating back to his days as a former franchise quarterback hopeful with the New York Giants.
While he clearly started out rusty, Richardson Sr. actually progressed nicely in his 2026 preseason debut, completing 11 of 14 pass attempts for 145 passing yards and an interception (*which should've been caught) to go along with his 53 total rushing yards and rushing touchdown on 6 carries against the New England Patriots. It was that dynamic rushing ability which doesn't play out as well in Colts camp, but was on full display in this past Thursday night's exhibition game.
In contrast, 2nd-year quarterback Riley Leonard, who is Richardson's competition for the Colts QB2 job behind Jones, had a fairly rough preseason showing in relief during the second half—and with only 1 career start under his belt, could arguably use a bit more seasoning before being anointed Indy's primary backup quarterback.

Bell, a third-round pick in this year's draft, suffered an ACL tear last November while playing for Louisville. He was nevertheless a first-team All-ACC selection for his performance.
In 47 collegiate games, Bell caught 151 passes for 2,166 yards with 12 touchdowns. He had 72 receptions for 917 yards with six TDs in 2025.

The Los Angeles Rams may soon have one of the best defensive line rotations in modern NFL history.
The NFL rumor mill has been buzzing this offseason about a potential return to the league by Aaron Donald. The eight-time first-team All-Pro selection and three-time Defensive Player of the Year retired following the 2023 season, but this offseason, there were murmurs that he wanted to return to the Los Angeles Rams for one more season to join the newly acquired NFL single-season sack leader, Myles Garrett.
Now, it appears things might be one step closer to that becoming a reality, as Donald reportedly worked out with the Rams for the second time this offseason this weekend – indicating that a return could be in the works. It is worth noting that Donald does frequently work out at the Rams' facilities
The news comes just one day after Rams head coach Sean McVay indicated after the team's preseason opener that he thinks the franchise is "closer" to securing a return from the standout defensive tackle.
"I'm hopeful that it will be sooner than later, but I also want to respect when he does feel like that clarity will come," McVay said Saturday after the Rams' 20-12 preseason victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. "I think there's a chance that we'll be closer to that than not. But again, I don't want to say too much or put some sort of invisible deadline on something that doesn't exist in my mind for him."

Not the start that Paul Heckingbottom would have wanted or the terrific following down the M61 from the Preston faithful.
The damage was done long before the final whistle. Two goals conceded, three yellow cards collected, countless offside decisions and barely a meaningful save required from Bolton goalkeeper Jack Bonham painted a picture of a side completely out of sync.
A switch to a back four was perhaps forecast during the week, when Heckingbottom suggested that he wants this season's squad to have more flexibility. It's fair to say that a groundswell of fan opinion has been calling for it quite regularly in recent years.
But, on the evidence of the first half, the defensive unit looked uncertain, disconnected and vulnerable whenever Bolton turned possession over and drove forward.
Heckingbottom found the first-half display a difficult one to explain. He told me: "We gave ourselves a real mountain to climb. I felt it was just something as simple as their enthusiasm, their energy about being in this league and the crowd. It seemed to catch us cold."

Austin Reed's introduction to the Baltimore Ravens could hardly have gone better.
Just three days after signing with Baltimore, the quarterback found the end zone on a 14-yard scramble against the Philadelphia Eagles, giving the Ravens a 24-0 lead with 5:07 remaining in Saturday night's preseason opener.
Reed's touchdown was the latest chapter in an unusual week for the quarterback. Baltimore signed him Wednesday after placing Skylar Thompson on injured reserve, giving Reed only a few days to learn the offense and get ready for his first game with the Ravens.
Instead of simply acclimating, Reed gave Baltimore a highlight.
The 14-yard touchdown run showcased the mobility that Reed has added to his game and gave him an opportunity to make an immediate impression on a Ravens organization that needed another quarterback late in the preseason.
