Sam Ponder is sharing the reason why she decided to homeschool her three children.
The former ESPN host, who shares Bowden, 12, Robinson, 9, and Price, 8, with her husband, former NFL quarterback Christian Ponder, took to X, where she blamed the New York City public school system for her decision to pull her children out of traditional classrooms.
"Meeting so many more families like ours in the city recently who, like us, never thought they'd homeschool," Ponder wrote Wednesday, September 9, over a New York Post report citing that homeschooling in New York City has gone up by 200 percent.
She continued, "I went to a huge inner city public school as a kid and thought homeschooling was weird. Then the local public school option became… weirder. I see it as a huge privilege to be able to homeschool but I wish it didn't feel so necessary."
The former Sunday NFL Countdown host worked for ESPN alongside former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, but was ultimately let go in 2024 in the final year of a three-year, $3 million contract, with the network citing budget cuts at the time, according to a 2024 report from The New York Times.

The clinical-stage vaccine maker has no product on the market yet, but its three late-stage trials for its lead pneumococcal candidate are now fully enrolled, with the first major readout due before year-end. Add a net loss that nearly doubled and a boardroom that just brought in two vaccine-industry veterans, and you have a company betting its near-term story on data still to come.

On Day 9 of this countdown, Collin O'Meara took you back in time to fill out the 2026 roster with one player from Huskies history. I have procured use of Mr. O'Meara's Delorean, but I'm not looking to the past, I'm headed back… to the future!
If you want to be surprised by each UW game this year, I don't blame you, but you should stop reading now. The time machine allowed me to see the actual results of each game, down to the final score. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring back a sports almanac from the future for betting purposes, so I can only give you a high-level summary of each result.
UW 38 – WSU 17. The Kirby Moore era gets off to a barely passable start for WSU as Caden Pinnick makes a few big plays against a new look Husky secondary. The Dawgs also pick him off two times and are able to turn things over to the second-string offense for the fourth quarter. UW totals over 200 rushing yards, with Williams, Carr, and Limar each going over 50 yards.
UW 48 – Utah St 14. Week 1 gave the Huskies a solid, definitive victory, but it wasn't such a beatdown that the Dawgs truly made a statement. In Week 2, they resolved to do exactly that. After focusing on the run game against the Cougs, Williams and Fisch decide to air it out to the tune of four passing TDs, including a pair of TD receptions for Decker DeGraaf.
UW 55 – EWU 10. Not content with the style points accumulated against Utah St., the Dawgs set out to establish themselves as a heavyweight against their cross-state FCS opponent. Only 10 days remain until the New Orleans Saints' 2026 season opener. New Orleans will start the year on the road when it travels to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 13. GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) -- The countdown to kickoff for the Alabama game continues to wind down, and Pirate starting quarterback Mitch Griffis is fired up and ready to go.
Griffis has plenty of experience under his belt with stops Wake Forest and Texas Tech, and at one point decided to give up on football. Now, he'll have one final fling this season.
Griffis said the journey has been a long one to get here, but that he's getting more comfortable by the day, especially since his first days on campus.
"Being out there and just getting reps of different guys who are new to the system," Griffis said. "I definitely think as a unit we've grown a ton, so the summer in camp was big for us."
The Pirates and Crimson Tide kickoff at noon on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

By the time Cincinnati Bengals players returned to their lockers post-practice on Sept. 1, they were well into the countdown toward the Week 1 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 13. The excitement of setting what's expected to be a deeper, more talented 53-man roster, plus the 16-player practice squad, had mostly faded.
Only two days earlier, several Bengals players were basking in the achievement of earning a spot on the initial 53-man roster, which teams across the NFL set Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. EDT. Other veteran players and coaches were savoring the depth, which was anticipated prior to training camp on the defensive side but eventually grew to include offensive players, too.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, who anticipated a tense and challenging weekend of sifting through difficult personnel decisions to arrive at his 53-man roster, said he ended up enjoying the cut-down process.
"It was ultimately fun to put together because we feel like we're really deep, even going out to the practice squad," Taylor said. "Yes, it was very challenging letting guys know that in other years maybe they would have made the 53, maybe would have made the practice squad, that they weren't going to get that this year or come back. But top to bottom, I feel like it's a really good group, and excited to get these guys."

Only two days earlier, several Bengals players were basking in the achievement of earning a spot on the initial 53-man roster, which teams across the NFL set Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. EDT. Other veteran players and coaches were savoring the depth, which was anticipated prior to training camp on the defensive side but eventually grew to include offensive players, too.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, who anticipated a tense and challenging weekend of sifting through difficult personnel decisions to arrive at his 53-man roster, said he ended up enjoying the cut-down process.
"It was ultimately fun to put together because we feel like we're really deep, even going out to the practice squad," Taylor said. "Yes, it was very challenging letting guys know that in other years maybe they would have made the 53, maybe would have made the practice squad, that they weren't going to get that this year or come back. But top to bottom, I feel like it's a really good group, and excited to get these guys."

With one day to go, today we look at former USC All-American wide receiver Mike Williams.

His promise lived up to the hype, as he totaled 2,190 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns over just three seasons in Fort Worth. As a freshman, Johnston reeled in 22 catches for 487 yards and two scores while helping TCU to a 6-4 record and an invitation to the Texas Bowl, which was ultimately canceled due to COVID-19.
Johnston's career season came in 2022, when he brought in a career-high 60 catches for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns while guiding the Horned Frogs to a 13-2 record, a trip to the Big 12 ***** le game and a Fiesta Bowl win over Michigan. Williams improved over each of his five seasons at TCU, earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mentions over both the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. He was invited to the Senior Bowl.

On Tuesday, we reach 19 days until the New Orleans Saints regular season opener. The Saints will open 2026 on the road, heading north to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 13. Wearing No. 19 for New Orleans is Barion Brown, a rookie wide receiver.

As per tradition, our annual 30 Day Countdown to the season here on UWDP features a few days where we look ahead and try to preview our schedule and the opponents we'll face this season. Today, we'll be looking at the schedule to circle which opponent might have the best offense that we'll face. In my opinion, there's really only a few that stand out from an otherwise middling group of offenses on our 2026 slate.
As a refresher for those who might not have committed our schedule to memory, here's our 2026 opponents:
Generally speaking, our non-conference opponents don't really wow me when it comes to offensive firepower. Wazzu has a solid offensive mind at the helm in Kirby Moore, and transfer QB Caden Pinnick finished last season as one of the top QBs in FCS. However, the Cougs are rebuilding from scratch for the second year in a row under a new staff, and UW's defense made Pinnick a non-factor last year when UC Davis came to Montlake, so it's unlikely that they will be among the best offenses we'll face.
Utah State might be a bit frisky on offense under Bronco Mendenhall and OC Robert Anae. Anae, a long time Mendenhall **** istant across various stops including BYU and Virginia, is a well-respected offensive mind. His offenses often feature dynamic dual threat QBs and a diverse run game that has long-served as an equalizer against more talented opponents, but I'm still not sold on them being among the best overall offenses we'll face.
USC has always been talented, and they've been particularly dangerous on offense under Lincoln Riley. However, this season might be different for the Trojans. Their roster-building strategy took a noticeable shift over the last 18 months, culminating in a 42-man, #1 ranked 2026 class. At first glance, the sheer volume of incoming players stand out, but a deeper dive points to a wholesale shift in how they want to build this roster and why there's so much turnover heading into year 6. The Trojans want to reload the trenches.

The countdown to college football season has hit single digits.
There's just one more week until the 2026 campaign begins, seven days until fans around the country are scheming up excuses to get out of ill-timed family weekend plans for the next four months.
CBS Sports' Brad Crawford got in the spirit earlier this week, making his preseason bowl projections.
While there are tons of games and plenty of fortunate and unfortunate circumstances to unfold between now and the postseason, these projections provide at least a baseline for outside expectations going into 2026.

Welcome to Day 13 of our 30 Day Countdown! Kickoff is just 2 short weeks away, and today, we are looking at who the best future pro will be on UW's roster! Let's get into it!
This one is pretty much a lock if his current trajectory keeps up. As a Freshman All American, Mills already has plenty of tape for pro scouts to pore over, and he looks to be the anchor of the next great offensive line core for the Huskies. We Husky fans know what we have, and it seems that the national media has taken notice, with Pro Football Focus ranking Mills on their Top 10 Sophomores list. Mills garnered high praise from PFF, with the article noting that "Mills generated the highest grade of any freshman lineman to play more than 300 snaps last season." With a season under his belt, and at least one more guaranteed, Mills has the opportunity to win some postseason hardware, and maybe secure an All American spot, if he is to build on his stellar debut! The key thing for him, and really any offensive lineman is staying healthy! I could see him as maybe a first or second round pick, enjoying a long career in the NFL!
This one is also a pretty good contender if current trajectories keep up. With the amount of pre-season watch lists that Williams is on, it should be no surprise that he is on this list. One mock draft even has Williams getting picked in the third round by…Seattle. The one thing that gives me pause is his size: at 5'11", he is not the prototypical NFL quarterback, but his dual threat ability should mitigate that slightly, much like it did for Kyler Murray when he was picked first overall in 2019. Not saying that Williams will match Murray's feat of getting selected first overall (though it would be great if he did, because that would probably mean a lot of wins for the Dawgs), but it's just a point of comparison. He has the physical gifts, he just needs to iron out his decision making and show that he can not only win, but produce against elite defenses, like the Ohio States and Michigans of the world! If he catches on, with the right team and scheme, Williams could be a solid pro quarterback!
This is another one that is kind of self explanatory. After a stellar Freshman season, Roebuck looks to build on his newfound role, with him shouldering more of the load in the passing game, and hopefully putting up more numbers in the process! His ceiling is also high, as he is only a sophomore and will have ample opportunity to catch passes from a variety of spots on the field, and versatility is something that NFL teams will be searching for in drafting their future receivers.
Right now, certain projections, like this one from Scout SZN, have his ceiling at Day 2, but where you get drafted doesn't matter. I do think that Roebuck could be a contributor on a pro team someday, but whether or not he's the best depends on his development while he is a Husky, and with his contributions from year one, I'd say that his future is bright!

Chicago's lakefront was filled with young competitors Saturday morning as athletes of all ages gathered for Supertri Chicago weekend, beginning with the 2026 Supertri Chicago Kids Triathlon at Foster Beach.
The race got underway with a countdown of "three, two, one," followed by the sounding of horns as participants entered the competition.
Some of the city's youngest athletes took on the waters of Lake Michigan and then transitioned to cycling and running in the triathlon challenge. Among them was 12-year-old Brooke Casey, a veteran participant who said the event remains a highlight.
"It's just fun. And I like when I see other people doing it like I see like little kids doing it and it's really fun," Casey said.
For Casey and her brother Kyle, the event has become a family tradition. Their father, Brendan Casey, said the family's involvement spans more than a decade.

It's that time of year again. Kansas State Football's official countdown to kickoff stands at 15 days, 2 hours, 49 minutes, 3 seconds, and counting. While it seems impossible because of the sweltering heat wave I've been suffering through down here in Athens, Georgia, fall is supposedly right around the corner. I've got a little over two weeks to talk about the Kansas State roster before we all get a chance to see the team in action. I'm going to start going back through the position reviews I published earlier in the summer and start speculating on a depth chart that will inevitably be proven wrong on September 5th.
Just a reminder that I don't live in Manhattan anymore. I'm not at practice, and I mostly have the same information everyone else does. Don't take any of these depth charts as "insider" information. I'm going to put them together based on the information available and make some relatively informed guesses based on press conferences, news releases, etc.
