In fact, Wood and Abrams became the second pair of teammates who are 25 years old or younger to record 30 or more home runs and 20 or more stolen bases in a season, according to Sarah Langs. Jose Ramirez and Francisco Lindor first accomplished the feat with Cleveland in 2018.
Wood stole his 20th (and 21st) base of the season during Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. He now has 30 home runs and 21 stolen bases this season. Abrams, meanwhile, has 30 home runs and 28 steals.

NEW DELHI: Social media has found a fun new way to bring the 1980s back, with AI turning modern-day pictures into vintage portraits. The trend has now reached the Indian cricket team, with several players enjoying a hilarious surprise ahead of their T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi.
Two days before the series, the Indian players gathered at their hotel for a photo session. But before it began, they found a table filled with AI-generated pictures of themselves.
The portraits, featured in a video shared by the BCCI, showed the players in classic 1980s looks, complete with bell-bottom jeans, big sunglasses and retro hairstyles.
India allrounder Axar Patel and Abhishek Sharma picked up the portraits and burst out laughing as they showed them to their teammates. Jasprit ****** rah also joined in the fun.
Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube checked out their retro pictures and appeared amused by their new 1980s avatars.

Ashcraft has emerged as the team's top starting pitcher this season, his first full year in the big leagues. The 26-year-old is 14-6 with a 3.65 ERA in 28 starts. In 165.1 innings, he's allowed 67 earned runs on 145 hits with 35 walks and 173 strikeouts.
The right-hander ranks fourth in the National League in wins, fifth in WHIP (1.09), seventh in innings, ninth in strikeouts and 12th in ERA.

The summer transfer window may have only just shut but, the rumour mill is already going into overdrive.
Liverpool finally won their first game of the Premier League season on Friday with Andoni Iraola's style of football finally shining through.
However, if they don't manage to keep their performance levels to that standard throughout the rest of the season, there's no way that they'll be anywhere near the top of the table.
So, in order for them to keep things this way and ensure that they can out-do their performances from last term, some new transfers may have to be made.

The Michigan Wolverines pulled off one of the most stunning wins in recent memory Saturday night. While there was some controversy surrounding the end-of-game scenario that added an extra second to the game clock and allowed them score a walk-off touchdown, the bigger story is that it happened against Western Michigan.
The Wolverines entered this year with one of the more talented rosters in college football, including five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and four-star wide receiver Andrew Marsh. They began the season ranked No. 16 – two spots ahead of Penn State — but now that position will be reevaluated.
Michigan struggled mightily throughout the game, going scoreless for more than 50 minutes of game time before connecting on the Hail Mary. They ultimately pulled out the win, but that isn't the type of performance you want to put on the field against a far inferior opponent.
There is a chance the Nittany Lions will be ranked ahead of Michigan in the next AP Poll, and more importantly, that mid-October battle at The Big House could become the biggest game of the season. With the Wolverines being one of only three ranked teams that Penn State is slated to play this season, a win in that game could have significant implications on their College Football Playoff odds.
Obviously, we are only one game into the season, and a lot can change in the six weeks until that game. But with no clear powerhouses on the schedule, the Nittany Lions need to begin recalibrating what this season can look like if they take care of business.

Muniz earned the first professional racing win of his career Friday at Road America, taking the Am class victory in the Pirelli GT4 America Series alongside co-driver Tyler Stone. The duo drove the No. 30 TechSport Racing Ford Mustang GT4 to the historic result.

Bayern Munich's connection to Red&Gold Football, as co-founders alongside Los Angelese FC, has seen the club expand its' youth movement. Players from Red&Gold Football partner clubs train and trial in Munich, with Bara Sapoko Ndiaye one of many to trial and the first to succeed in earning a move to Bayern, while acquired players move between these clubs, such as when Armindo Sieb left for LAFC.
One of the benefits most apparent to the average fan Bayern enjoyed was the ability to loan players out to Grasshopper Zürich. The Swiss Super League team was never part Red&Gold Football, but LAFC were majority stakeholders at the club and that connection allowed Bayern to send loan players to Switzerland to get their feet wet in professional football. Grayson Dettoni, Nestory Irankunda, Jonathan Asp Jensen and Lovro Zvonarek all had stints in Zürich.
But that will no longer happen. As of the end of June 2026, LAFC sold their majority stake in Grasshopper Zürich. As reported by Tzmuenchen (and captured by iMiaSanMia) this ends their status as potential loan destination for Bayern talents:

It wasn't pretty but the important part is that it is over. Up next, it counts.
On Friday, the New York Jets completed their preseason schedule against the crosstown New York Giants, losing in a 23-6 final.
The Jets started off well enough. Linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball had a heck of an effort as he was involved in two first-half takeaways. Gang Green took the lead with the game's first touchdown as well.
After kicker Jason Sanders missed that extra point, itz went downhill from there for the entire team.
Even so, it's still the preseason finale. Jobs were on the line and position battles being fought.

The Big 12 has followed the lead of the Big Ten and SEC in not allowing athletes who have played at the professional level to return to compete in college.
The conference issued a statement on Aug. 26 saying it had adopted a rule prohibiting an institution from fielding professional athletes in a conference-sponsored sport.
It defined those as athletes who:
Declared for the draft or supplemental draft of a professional sports league and did not timely withdraw before the draft
Been listed on the roster of a professional sports league; or

If not for hip/glute injuries costing him about half of June and most of July, Culpepper would have taken over as the Twins' shortstop earlier this season. As is, he had to wait until Aug. 7, but he's made the most of his time since, hitting .340/.382/.480 with two homers in 55 plate appearances.
Culpepper, the 21st overall pick in the 2024 draft, was brought up after hitting .271/.367/.478 with 14 homers and 17 steals in 74 games for Triple-A St. Paul. In spite of that impressive line, he didn't draw much initial interest in shallow leagues, probably in part because he was going to be hitting at the bottom of the lineup for a mediocre offense. And that is an issue; through 14 games, Culpepper has totaled four RBI and six runs scored even with his impressive start. But he already has a case for moving up to the top third of the order. Culpepper offers above average bat speed and solid plate discipline. He might not have superstar potential, but he has a good chance of becoming an above average regular for a long time.

In 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball, he averaged 93.4 mph with the pitch. That's his highest mark since one start in May 2024. He hasn't regularly been in that territory since 2022. Maybe it'll turn out to be a fluke, but he was also better than his season average in his first two starts back from back surgery. He averaged 92.2 mph in those outings, which is higher than he's typically been since 2024.

Scotland cap Calvin Ramsay is eager to "rebuild myself" at St Mirren after joining on a season-long loan from Liverpool.
The 23-year-old right-back moved to Liverpool from Aberdeen for £4.1m four years ago but has played just four first-team matches for the Anfield side.
Loan spells at Preston, Bolton, Wigan and Kilmarnock have brought a further 26 appearances.

There was a time when Evan McPherson making a 50-plus-yard field goal barely registered as news. That was the expectation.
The Bengals' kicker had established himself as one of the NFL's most dangerous long-range weapons, and there was a stretch early in his career when anything from beyond midfield felt almost automatic. He was incredible as a rookie in the team's 2021 run to Super Bowl LVI, and became one of the best young kickers in the league.
After a couple of uneven seasons, however, McPherson entered 2026 with something to prove. So far, he's doing exactly that.
McPherson continued his outstanding training camp and preseason Saturday night against the Chicago Bears, drilling both of his field-goal attempts—including a 58-yarder—and all three of his extra-point attempts in Cincinnati's second preseason game.
And that 58-yarder? It looked extremely easy, and Mike Watts on the Bengals preseason telecast referenced "Thor's Hammer" when referring to McPherson's leg.

Aug. 22—MITCHELL — The Dakota Wesleyan University football team enters the 2026 season with a clear objective: get the running game going.
The Tigers finished last in the Great Plains Athletic Conference a season ago in rushing yards per game at 59.5, rushing touchdowns with three and rushing yards per attempt at 2.0. Those numbers contributed to an offense that finished third-to-last in the GPAC in scoring at 17.5 points per game and second-to-last in total offense at 283.9 yards per game.
With the season opener set for Saturday, Aug. 29, against rival Dakota State in Madison, DWU is hoping a more experienced offensive line combined with a new lead back can help change those numbers.
Junior Landon Iverson is stepping into the starting running back role after serving primarily as a backup last season. The 5-foot-6, 180-pound Hot Springs product appeared in all 11 games and finished with 100 rushing yards. He was fourth on the team in carries behind junior quarterback Jed Jenson and running backs Koby Kayser and Lane Darrow in 2025, who both graduated.
Now, Iverson is being counted on to carry a larger share of the workload.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Barry Pearson, who was a part of the legendary Immaculate Reception play, has died. He was 76. Pearson passed away on Aug. 16, according to his obituary.
Barry signed with the Steelers as a free agent shortly before his graduating from Northwestern in 1972.
He was on the field during the Immaculate Reception game; it was his first career play. Pearson was elevated after a late-season injury to Frank Lewis. Pearson brought in the play to Terry Brashaw. He was later told by head coach Chuck Noll that the play was called for him because Barry's steady hands would do the trick.
With 22 seconds left in the game, the Steelers found themselves down 13-7 against the Oakland Raiders. It was fourth down with ten yards to go.

STURGIS — Sarah Arreola kept her nerves in check pretty well on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
She was confident in being able to do so, but as a varsity head volleyball coach, she was ready for anything as well.
Arreola returned to the sidelines after a long stint away from being a varsity head coach. She's been an educator at Sturgis High School for a bit, but Wednesday evening was her first experience as a varsity head coach for the orange and black.
It went well, by her standards. Sturgis opened its season with a three-set victory over visiting White Pigeon, 25-18, 25-11, 25-21.
"I'd say it was a nine out of 10," Arreola said of her first varsity head coaching experience for Sturgis, noting it was the first match for both teams and there are plenty of things to continue to work on. "When they are enjoying what they do, we are at our absolute best. They know it. When we started having fun, you saw smiling and lots of noise. It makes things easier."

The Denver Broncos came out of the preseason gates on Friday night with a head full of steam before proceeding to steamroll the Atlanta Falcons. The Broncos opened the exhibition season with a 27-7 road win, looking every bit like the Super Bowl contenders many expect them to be.
Jarrett Stidham got the start for the Broncos and looked terrific in the process, showing no signs that he is even close to losing his job as Bo Nix's primary backup. That news may not sit well in the minds of many Broncos fans who are still upset over the way Stidham performed in last year's AFC Championship game.
However, if Stidham was going to lose his job as the team's backup quarterback because of that game, that move should have already happened. Instead, Sam Ehlinger has had the door open for his chance to play his way into that job, or so we've been led to believe.
Whether this is a close competition or not is up for discussion, as some believe coach Sean Payton is just showing the league what he has in Ehlinger in an effort to earn some kind of compensation for him from a quarterback-needy team, and that he doesn't actually have much chance of wresting the job away from Stidham.
Stidham showed strong command of the offense in this game. He completed nine of his 15 pass attempts for 131 yards and one touchdown. On the scoring play, he evaded the pass rush and made a good decision to find Jaleel McLaughlin for a 5-yard touchdown pass.

Rodri, Spain's World Cup-winning captain, appears to be heading back to Spain after Manchester City and Barcelona reached an agreement over the midfielder's transfer.
The clubs have agreed to a deal for Rodri worth 76.5 million euros ($88.5 million), a person with knowledge of the transaction confirmed to The ***** ociated Press on Sunday.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the details of the deal have not been made public.
