PASADENA, Calif. - For three quarters and seven minutes, Bob Chesney's Rose Bowl debut was a dull affair, then just as quickly, the Bruins gave their faithful fans and historic stadium plenty to cheer about.
The SDSU Aztecs came to town looking to present a challenge and they certainly didn't make things easy on the Bruins, nor did the Bruins make things easy back. Both siders traded drives where they accomplished relatively nothing. So much nothing in fact the first play to go past the 50-yard line and into opposing territory didn't happen until Brian Rowe Jr. caught a pass with 11:47 left in the second quarter and both sides went into halftime tied 0-0.
Neither side particularly excelled with their passing, even if UCLA had the slight edge through the first half and finished with a much larger edge with 151 net passing yards to just 45 by SDSU and both sides were equally unsuccessful in their rushing attempts early on, but things started to change for UCLA in the second half.
"That is not the way we want to play football, obviously in the first half," Chesney said. "But at the same point in time, that's where we found ourselves. And I think every once in a while, it wasn't pretty, but it was gritty, and you need one of those."
UCLA struck first with a rushing touchdown courtesy of fifth-year running back Wayne Knight early in the third quarter, but UCLA could have scored far earlier than that if senior quarterback Nico Iamaleava made a different decision in a critical moment.

There are many things that Manchester City and Manchester United have in common - but one thing decisively separates them this season.
Based just five miles apart and united by a shared desire to return to the top of the Premier League, their gameplans are almost diametrically opposed.
The best teams in the world often play in similar ways, as demonstrated in last season's Champions League final between between Paris St-Germain and ******* nal - teams who use similar shapes, look to dominate the ball, and encourage rotations into fixed positions.
But looking ahead to Sunday's Manchester derby, expect to see City boss Enzo Maresca and his United counterpart Michael Carrick field teams teams that play in a totally different way to each other.
In short, City use a rigid structure with players precisely positioned, while United have a more fluid approach that has some positional guidelines but allows players the freedom to roam - here is how it works in detail.

ATLANTA − Tennessee football played its first road game of the season at Georgia Tech but it sure didn't look that way.
UT fans helped sell out Bobby Dodd Stadium as the No. 18 Vols (2-0) beat Georgia Tech 45-24 on Sept. 12. UT coach Josh Heupel noticed the support from the fans before he stepped on the field to play the Yellow Jackets (0-2).
"We leave our hotel and you see nothing but orange and white on our way here," Heupel said. "From older fans who have been here for a lot of generations to some younger ones who don't know how to tie their shoes yet, you walk into the stadium 60 minutes before kickoff and a majority of the crowd is Tennessee orange. It's pretty special."
Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon, making the first road start of his college career, said UT fans gave him and his teammates a distinct advantage when operating the offense.
"It was a lot of orange," Brandon said. "It definitely made things easier. Wasn't too much noise. Definitely got a little rowdy sometimes, but seeing all the orange, it definitely made me proud."

AUBURN — Byrum Brown's first home game with Auburn football was already seeing an impressive performance from the quarterback. Then he caught a touchdown pass.
Brown shook a three-interception performance from Week 1 and delivered 319 yards of total offense and three scores in a 43-8 win against Southern Miss on Saturday, Sept. 12. His final touchdown saw him tumble over the goal line on fourth-and-3, after wide receiver Christian Neptune found him wide-open for a 5-yard completion.
RECAP, HIGHLIGHTS: Auburn football handles Southern Miss for blowout win
It was Brown's first reception in two seasons and the fourth reception of his career, but that's an uncommon occurrence for a passer on the Plains. The last time an Auburn quarterback caught a touchdown pass was in 2012, when Kiehl Frazier did so against Lousiana-Monroe.

Seriously, now what? How will the AP Top 25 voters pick their teams this week after making a statement by leaving Michigan out last week, and with Oregon losing to Oklahoma State, and after Texas made its big comeback win over Ohio State?
After one of the most interesting Week 2 weekends in a long time, there should be plenty of movement, and we try to predict what the voters will do.
The call: Texas will make the move up from 4 to 1 after beating the previous No. 1, Ohio State – but this is a true guess. No. 2 Georgia has been dominant so far.
Michigan was technically 28th after its close call win over Western Michigan. But after taking down No. 11 Oklahoma, the 2-0 Wolverines will move back into the top 25.
Oregon was No. 2, was mediocre in a win over Boise State and dropped to 8. After losing to an Oklahoma State team that lost to Tulsa the week before, the Ducks will (probably) drop out of the top 25 entirely.
Top Others Receiving Votes: Boise State, South Carolina, Western Michigan, UCLA, Oregon, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Colorado

Caitlin Clark's poor performance against Spain in the 2026 FIBA World Cup is a result of being iced out by her teammates, according to Clark fans.
Team USA advanced to the final of the 2026 FIBA World Cup with a 76-66 win over Spain, where Clark came off the bench to score one point (0-3 FG) in 16 minutes of action.
Clark wound up being one of Team USA's least-used players in this clash after leading them in minutes for the tournament up until now, prompting fans to worry about a conspiracy against Clark.
Fans were quick to spot Clark's struggling efforts and used clips from the game to highlight the lack of support she was receiving from her teammates, who weren't quick to pass the ball to her.
"Not only does Caitlin Clark get to play the least amount of minutes, but she also gets looked off like this," said a fan while sharing a clip of Clark not getting the ball while wide-open for a three.

AUSTIN, Texas — Hours before the out-of-nowhere comeback, before Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium pulsated with noise and shock, before the "SEC, SEC" chants spontaneously broke out over the din of elation and before thousands of forlorn Ohio State fans walked out into the night having that conversation about Ryan Day once again, a plume of burnt orange smoke seemed to linger over the field in the searing Texas heat.
It is a standard part of the pregame pyrotechnics here, but it was a particularly poignant image in the moments before a game like this one between two of college football's biggest brands and highest-ranked teams, with consequences that will take the rest of the season to figure out.
For 14 Saturdays of college football, we're all just waiting for the smoke to clear.
By the end of Texas 24, Ohio State 23, it was a beautiful picture but an incomplete one, made possible only by a regular season that feels increasingly under attack by the powers that be. Year by year, the coaches and administrators at the mega-programs become less interested in playing games like these because the stakes are so high. And yet, without those high stakes of a limited playoff structure where losing this kind of game can knock you out, what kind of sport are you left with?
"Hopefully it pays dividends for us in December," Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said late Saturday night. "But we have a lot more meat on the bone we have to chew off here before we can start worrying about whether this win helps us get into a playoff or not."

When Sunderland were awarded a penalty following Ezri Konsa's impromptu wrestling match with Dan Ballard, it felt like a massive opportunity to break the deadlock against the notoriously watertight Gunners as Enzo Le Fée lined up his spot kick against David Raya.
There was little wrong with the Frenchman's attempt — firmly struck and aimed towards the corner — but the Spaniard made a superb save to deny Le Fée his second success from twelve yards inside a week. And when everyone's favourite villain Bruno Guimaraẽs duly fired a venomous dipping shot past Robin Roefs barely minutes later, it felt like the classic one-two punch and it ultimately defined the game.
Sunderland more than held their own in this contest; we looked sharp, combative and were able to fashion a number of decent chances against the defending champions, but the finishing touch eluded the Lads on this occasion and that somehow made the loss even more frustrating.
We know we're capable of giving the league's big guns a run for their money on any given day, and occasionally emerging victorious, but during what could easily be a "difficult second season", we need to find ways to bridge the gap and to continue to eke out points from tricky positions.
A disappointing outcome. The 0-2 scoreline might've felt slightly harsh and Reinildo's late red card was a sickener, but the way the game panned out wasn't entirely unexpected, given ******* nal's current status and Sunderland's ongoing attempts at evolution.

Samson's omission in England after three failures also raised questions, especially given his experience in the format.

Kishan had a back injury scare during Friday's net session. He comes into the series after a brilliant Duleep Trophy final, where he scored 270 and 80.
Kishan will be keen to play because T20Is remain the only format in which he is currently a regular for India.
The three-match series will give India's Asian Games-bound players valuable preparation against a strong Afghanistan side.
Afghanistan have a world-class spin attack featuring Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Facing them in three T20Is will be a major test for India's batters ahead of the Asian Games in ******* an.

Ryan Garcia crushed Briton Conor Benn with a ruthless second-round stoppage to retain his WBC welterweight crown in a world **** le mismatch in Las Vegas.
The American dominated from the opening bell, repeatedly punishing Benn as the 29-year-old charged forward with a wild and increasingly desperate approach.
Benn was dropped by a flush right hook in round two but managed to beat the count. before Garcia continued the onslaught with Benn backed against the ropes until the referee stepped in.
"I knew he would bring the pressure, I felt the shots and though 'I'll let him have his way', but I knew his was reckless and you can't do that with me," Garcia told DAZN.
"147lb is my division. I'm here, you can trust me as a champion."

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Freshman Tait Reynolds replaced an injured Christopher Vizzina at quarterback and threw for 178 yards and led five scoring drives as Clemson defeated Georgia Southern 22-7 on Saturday night following a two-hour lightning delay.
T.J. Moore had seven catches for 103 yards and a touchdown and Nolan Hauser was 5 for 5 on field goal attempts for Clemson (1-1), which rebounded from a 51-10 thrashing at the hands of No. 11 LSU last week.
That loss, combined with a seventh place finish in the ACC last year, left fans and former players frustrated with the Tigers' sharp falloff under longtime head coach Dabo Swinney. Clemson's win likely did little to inspire much confidence in new coordinator Chad Morris' offense.
The Tigers (1-1), who were outgained by nearly 500 yards by LSU, finished with 345 yards but were 2 of 13 on third down conversions and managed just one touchdown on five trips inside the red zone against the Sun Belt Conference foe.
Max Johnson, a North Carolina transfer, finished 27-of-47 passing for 244 yards and a touchdown for Georgia Southern (1-1).

When a collapse this spectacular happens, every mistake deserves a second look.
For Ohio State, there were plenty to examine.
The Buckeyes spent three quarters looking every bit the best team in the country their No. 1 ranking warranted. Then came the the final 15 minutes that saw them blow a 20-point lead in a stunning 24-23 loss to Texas.
The Longhorns deserve credit for a furious fourth-quarter rally. After digging themselves into a deep hole with a series of early mistakes, they responded with 21 unanswered points to pull off one of the season's biggest comebacks.

The Clasico Regio ended in a 0-0 draw as neither team was able to find that breakout goal. The match was supposed to be one filled with excitement and passion, as is every rivalry game, but this one fell short of that by miles. Now Monterrey will prepare for a difficult game against current champions Cruz Azul while Tigres will face 18th place Juárez.
The beginning of the game seemed to set the tone for the game as Monterrey spent the first 10 minutes pressing high. They were not giving Tigres any room to breathe. This high pressure led to frustrations for the visitors who committed fouls left and right. Joaquim even went as far as committing an unnecessary reckless foul and he was awarded the first yellow card seven minutes into the game. In the 10th minute that high pressure paid off with a dangerous opportunity as the Rayados made their way up the right flank. The ball was crossed into the box but Mauro Lainez was there to kick the ball out of danger. A few minutes later and the home side had another opportunity as Orbelin Pineda beat his mark on the left wing and made his way into the box. Unfortunately he did not shoot as he tried to find the perfect angle and in the process he was dispossessed.
By the 30 minute mark the game had hit a stalemate as both teams attempted to break the other down but the defenses stood strong. Monterrey weren't pressing with the high intensity as they had at the beginning of the game meanwhile Tigres were just trying to make their way forward but were unable to make any real threats. A few minutes later Monterrey had a big chance at goal as Lucas Ocampos received a cross in the box that he sent towards the net but Nahuel was there to make the save. This seemed to awaken Rayados who picked up the intensity but were stopped short by Tigres who started to foul again. Mauro Lainez even picked up a yellow for a foul. The half ended with both teams pushing but unable to find anything.
The second half started like the first with Monterrey putting pressure on Tigres who had trouble moving the ball forward. They then had a dangerous chance in the 55th minute when Juan Brunetta stole the ball at the halfway line and made a run towards his opponents box. Instead of making his way into the box he shot from distance but the ball went over the crossbar. Brunetta seemed to be the only one on Tigres who was attempting to make any breakthroughs while his teammates did little to help him. In the 60th minute the visitors had a big chance as they were awarded a free kick outside of the box due to a Rayados foul. The ball made its way inside the box where Alan Franco headed the ball towards the net but Andrada collected the ball.
It wasn't until the 65th minute that either team made substitutions as Monterrey struck first as Matias Almeyda decided to put fresh legs in at striker. A few minutes later Victor Vucetich also brought in two players with fresh legs looking for a spark his team needed. These changes didn't work for eith

Clemson did not find many answers offensively Saturday night, but the Tigers found enough to escape Memorial Stadium with their first victory of the season.
Freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds was forced into action after Christopher Vizzina suffered a left arm injury, while kicker Nolan Hauser provided most of Clemson's scoring in a 22-7 victory over Georgia Southern.
Hauser tied his career high by connecting on five field goals, hitting from 20, 34, 38, 50 and 49 yards. He improved to 6-for-6 this season and matched the five field goals he made against Florida State in 2024.
Reynolds settled in after replacing Vizzina, completing 16 of 27 passes for 178 yards while adding 36 rushing yards. He was especially effective before halftime, going 12-for-17 for 160 yards.
One of his biggest plays came on third-and-20 late in the second quarter when he found Tyler Brown for 20 yards. Reynolds then scrambled 16 yards to help set up a Hauser field goal that sent Clemson into halftime leading 16-7.

MADISON – Already in Week 2, the Wisconsin football team has been anything but immune to injuries at some key positions.
Wide receiver Malachi Coleman and linebacker Mason Posa both exited the Badgers' 36-9 win over Western Illinois with injuries. Posa could have returned if necessary, coach Luke Fickell said afterward, but Coleman could not.
Quarterback Colton Joseph, meanwhile, was "a little dinged up from last weekend," Fickell said in his postgame press conference. Fickell similarly said that running back Abu Sama III may have gotten "a little bit of a ding on the shoulder."
Those are in addition to first-team offensive lineman Emerson Mandell's continued absence as he recovers from an injury that he suffered in fall camp.
Fickell said that Joseph – the Old Dominion transfer who has been UW's presumed starter since January – was not ready to go in Tuesday's practice. (He took a significant hit in the Badgers' 41-13 loss to then-No. 5 Notre Dame.)

Former Cincinnati Reds great Joey Votto reacted to former St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina's induction into the team's Hall of Fame by tweeting, "Class player. Class franchise."
Votto still played for the Reds in 2022 when he tweeted minutes before the start a series finale against the Cardinals at Great American Ball Park and called for "appreciation for the experience of competing against Cards icons" Molina and Albert Pujols.
Pujols was inducted alongside Molina into the Cardinals' Hall of Fame.
Molina and former Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips were the principals in a memorable Reds-Cardinals brawl in August 2010.

F1 free live streams: How to watch Formula 1 2026 Spanish Grand Prix without cable originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
This weekend marks a historic return to Madrid for Formula 1, with the Spanish Grand Prix taking place at the brand new Madring on Sunday.
The Madring marks the first all-new venue to be added to the F1 calendar since the Las Vegas Strip Circuit in 2023, meaning drivers have no idea what to expect. The layout features a combination of public roads and new purpose-built sections, as well as an intense Turn 12 nicknamed 'La Monumental', which is officially the longest banked corner in the sport.
Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli returned to winning ways at his home race in Monza last week, even with a grid penalty that started him in the 19th position. The 19-year-old is still holding strong at the top of the Drivers' Championship standings, with teammate George Russell 66 points behind.
F1 hasn't competed in the Spanish capital in 45 years. Who will become the inaugural champion at the Madring?

What time is US Open 2026 men's final? Ben Shelton vs. Alexander Zverev TV schedule and live stream details for Sunday start originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The 2026 US Open will soon come to a close, but not without a thrilling men's final between Ben Shelton and Alexander Zverev on Sunday.
Ben Shelton is heading into his first-ever US Open final, and the 23-year-old has definitely earned his way. Shelton battled through each round of the tournament, even defeating global star Carlos Alcaraz in a tiebreaker fifth set during the quarterfinals. He then knocked off long time friend Frances Tiafoe to secure a spot in the final.
With more high-stakes experience, Zverev might have a bit of an edge in this matchup. Across five previous meetings between the two, Zverev has won every single one. He's also been peaking at an opportune time in the US Open, winning his last four matches without dropping a single set.
Who will claim the ultimate honors in Flushing Meadows?

As the Miami Hurricanes continue the journey of the 2026 regular season, our friends at FanDuel Sportsbook have released odds for the week 3 road game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
With no further ado, your FanDuel Sportsbook line of the week:
Per FanDuelSports, your Miami Hurricanes open as 21.5pt road favorites over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in week 3's Friday night ACC game.
Over/Under 53.5
For Miami, they're a national championship contender, if not favorite at this point of the year. With one of the most talented rosters in the country the Canes look to use and explosive offense led by star QB Darian Mensah and all-world WR Malachi Toney, Miami is going to be lighting up scoreboards all over the country all year long.
After dropping 77 points and a program-record 856 yards of offense last week against an overmatched FAMU Rattlers team, Miami will look to deploy their explosive offense again in Winston Salem this Friday night. While the numbers may be lower than last week, they should still be plenty robust. Miami has one of the most explosive offenses in the country, led by the duo of Mensah and Toney, and a run game that is very talented as well and rounding into form.

Chris Eubank Jr was quick to react to Conor Benn's loss to Ryan Garcia on Saturday, mocking his bitter rival after the emphatic defeat.
Benn was fighting for a world ***** le for the first time, challenging Garcia for the WBC welterweight belt, when he suffered a second-round loss in Las Vegas.
Benn, 29, started aggressively as expected, but he walked onto a huge right hook in the second frame, as Garcia, 28, dropped the Briton badly. Benn beat the referee's count but was quickly overwhelmed, leading the official to step in.

Do the Chiefs play today? Schedule, time, channel for next Kansas City football game originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Chiefs will start the 2026-27 regular season in prime time, with a Week 1 matchup against the Broncos on Monday Night Football.
Kansas City is entering this season with a better outlook, and hopefully with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes finally back on the field after a brutal ACL tear in December. The Chiefs won't be able to ease into the regular season, though, facing a strong AFC West rival right off the bat.
Luckily, Andy Reid made some moves in the offseason to keep the roster fresh. Steve Spagnuolo bolstered his defense with a few namely additions, including cornerback Mansoor Delane and edge R Mason Thomas. And of course, Travis Kelce is returning to Arrowhead, although it could be his last season for the legacy franchise.
What's next for Kansas City? The Sporting News has all the details on the Chiefs' next game.

College football is unpredictable and delightful, which is why we live for what happens on Saturdays. And Week 2 absolutely delivered, from a stunner in Stillwater to an instant classic in Austin.
Each Sunday, I'll publish my biggest takeaways from the college football weekend. I'll highlight the most interesting storylines, track College Football Playoff contenders and specifically shout out individual and team performances that deserve the spotlight.
He beat one of college football's bluest bluebloods. I know he took the Longhorns to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff in back-to-back seasons, but we live in a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately world. And lately, Texas had been overhyped and under-delivering — with three losses to Georgia since joining the SEC, and two losses to Ohio State (in the CFP and last year's season-opener). After starting last year as the preseason No. 1 team, Texas didn't even make the CFP.
But Saturday was different, even after a first half that felt all too familiar. Arch Manning delivered with the game on the line. Hollywood Smothers showed the value of adding the transfer portal's best available running back. And Sarkisian got the kind of win that helps a head coach sleep at night. The kind of win that gives a team a nice cushion heading into conference play, knowing that its CFP resume has a pretty shiny centerpiece.
One note: Sark might want to work on his postgame interview etiquette.

Down 23-3 in the fourth quarter. Twenty-one unanswered points - against the No. 1 team in the country. A Heisman Trophy campaign that roared back to life. The return of Texas football's running game, redemption for a quarterback and a program, and a huge win over the Buckeyes that has Texas in place to possibly become the new No. 1 team in the country.
Saturday night's 24-23 thriller had it all.
Texas Longhorns' tight end Spencer Shannon (83) dives after Texas Longhorns' defensive back Kade Phillips (8) after Phillips recovered a fumble as the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes face off at Royal-Memorial Stadium in Austin on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026. (Mikala Compton/Austin American-Statesman)
As bad as Texas' start was, as bad as things looked at halftime and the third quarter, as unlucky and plodding as the Longhorns looked, all that turned around in the fourth quarter. After surviving what was probably the worst first quarter of the Steve Sarkisian era, No. 4 Texas produced perhaps the biggest win ever at Royal-Memorial Stadium.
Here are some observations we saw from Saturday's win:

SAN MARCOS - As UTSA quarterback Owen McCown was preparing for his final season, he felt a lingering weight on his shoulders.
He carried the burden of two straight losses to rival Texas State, of slow starts and road woes and missed opportunities in close losses. No matter what drills or exercises the Roadrunners devised, he knew he couldn't replicate those moments. He dove into the mental aspect as much as he could, searching for answers that might pay off when the situation finally arrived.
With UTSA trailing in the final two minutes against Texas State in a pivotal early season showdown Saturday in San Marcos, McCown delivered. The Roadrunners orchestrated a drive that ended in a 25-yard touchdown run by Brandon High with 14 seconds remaining, providing the final blow in a 30-26 win over the Bobcats.
"Obviously that's something we've been working on, and it showed today," McCown said. "To go out my last year against a rival here, a road win on a two-minute drill, it's big time. It says a lot about our team."
UTSA's Owen McCown, on the mindset entering his game-winning drive to beat Texas State: "Go win the game. And I think the last two years, you look at where we need to work the most with road games, was two-minute drill. … For this to happen the way it did is super special." pic.twitter.com/RFflc5dTIZ
