During this season for volleyball, Rutgers has had one night of evidence about its sustained success. Friday was about whether it could be the same team twice. Saturday asked something harder, whether Rutgers needed to be the same team at all.
Skylar George and Imani Howell, who between them played every set of Friday's win over Delaware, did not play. Karis Willow came off the bench. Zharia Harris-Waddy, Avery Jesewitz and Jenna DeLaMater started, and Addison Wiemann and Kami Dyrstad got a set.
Saturday night was the best one.
Rutgers swept Rider 25-20, 25-18, 25-15 in an hour and a half in front of 707, hit .378 as a team and held the Broncs to .165. Thursday's sweep of Stony Brook came at .301. Friday's four-set win over Delaware came at .193. Saturday was the cleanest attacking night of the weekend by a distance, and it came with the fewest familiar names on the floor.
The first set was the only competitive one, and it stopped being competitive in a hurry. There were six ties and two lead changes, all of them inside the first 14 points. The last tie came at 7-7. Willow, subbed in, served the next four points and won three of them, back-to-back aces on Rylah Robinson and Maisie Nawrocki, then a set Katie Cook could not run, and Rutgers led 10-7.

COLLEGE STATION - ESPN's ranking of the country's top college football players featured numerous players from Texas schools but only one Texas A&M player made the list.
Wide receiver Mario Craver slotted in at No. 86 on the list.
"I really don't look too much into that," Craver said. "Everybody got their own opinion honestly. I don't really let that fill in my head."
Craver transferred from Mississippi State after his freshman season in 2024, making nine starts for the Aggies in 2025. He caught 59 passes for 917 yards and four touchdowns during the campaign, which led to the first College Football Playoff appearance for Texas A&M.
ESPN named him the 87th best player in the country at the end of the 2025 season, one of three Texas A&M players to make the list. Fellow wide receiver KC Conception and defensive lineman Cashius Howell also joined him in the top 100, but both have since moved onto the NFL.

Before utilizing the transfer portal, Elko and new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill knew that rising sophomore Edge Marco Jones was on track to replace most of Howell's snaps in 2026, but in order for the former blue-chip prospect to reach his full potential, landing a proven Edge from the portal with the size, length, and pass-rush potential was the goal.

The Cowboys aren't ready to settle on a backup quarterback yet.
Sam Howell started their first preseason game with Joe Milton playing the second half and the two quarterbacks switched roles against the Cardinals last Saturday. On Monday, head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Milton has "performed beautifully in both games" and that Howell has "made a lot of plays too" while suggesting things remain too close to call.
"If you would just take the training camp competition, it's probably neck and neck, and Sam maybe a little bit ahead," Schottenheimer said, via the team's website. "That's why we actually started Sam in the first game against Seattle. But Joe's put together two really good performances, and this will be another fun week for them to keep battling."
The Cowboys would prefer not to use either quarterback for any meaningful snaps during the regular season, but Dak Prescott's history and the league's general history suggests that might not be the case. That will make the competition a focal point heading into the August 30 cut to 53 players.

But they're also moving the needle on some of the top players in the state in 2028.
Over the weekend, Oklahoma issued an offer to 2028 three-star wide receiver Kenyon Sweat out of Cache, Okla. After the offer, it didn't take long for predictions to favor the Oklahoma Sooners in his recruitment. Rivals national recruiting ****** yst Sam Spiegelman and SoonerScoop.com's Josh McCuistion issued predictions favoring the Sooners.
It's just his sixth offer in the cycle, but Sweat has a strong offer sheet that includes Tennessee, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and UConn, along with the Sooners.
The 6-0, 173-pound wide receiver wins with great speed and contact balance. In the highlights, there are a number of bubble screens that he turned into touchdowns. Sweat displays good lateral agility and quickness and really good hands in the passing game. He lined up primarily in the slot or in the backfield.
Sweat looks like a player who will play primarily out of the slot and has the speed to be effective in the short game and to get downfield for big plays.

The Dallas Cowboys were officially back on the field for the first time in 2026 on Saturday, and so too were the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. There were certainly some moments that reminded us all this is just the first appetizer towards the main course of week one regular season football.
The Cowboys won this appetizer of a game 17-7, falling behind 7-0 after the Seahawks went down the field with a 13-play scoring drive that proved to be their biggest offensive highlight of the night. The Cowboys were the only team to score the rest of the game, with 14 of these points coming on insane highlight reel catches for touchdowns by UDFA wide receiver Camden Brown, one from Sam Howell and one from Joe Milton.

When the Dallas Cowboys took the field against the Seattle Seahawks, it would have been hard to imagine Camden Brown leading the team in receiving yards and touchdowns. With veterans like Jonathan Mingo and Marquez Valdes-Scantling on the roster and ahead of him on the depth chart, it was a pleasant surprise. The Cowboys' coaching staff had seen Brown excel during OTAs and training camp, but this was their first chance to see him produce in live game action, and he didn't disappoint.
Brown was Saturday night's player of the game for Dallas, not only for scoring both Cowboys' touchdowns, but for everything else he did on the field as well. His first reception came at the end of the first half, catching a 39-yard bomb off the arm of Sam Howell as part of a two-minute drill, forcing his way to the ball through an interfering defender.
Then, after a quarterback change to Joe Milton at halftime, Brown caught his next two passes. Dallas found themselves behind the sticks thanks to back-to-back penalties on OL Marcus Johnson. The 2nd-and-15 didn't deter, as Milton found Brown for a 21-yard completion. Milton finished his impressive drive with a two-yard toss that Brown reached out and snagged with one hand, his left hand, behind the DB.
He kept the covering cornerbacks on their heels and was able to create separation, ending the game by catching all three of his targets for 62 yards and the two scores.

The undrafted rookie wide receiver caught touchdown passes from Sam Howell and Joe Milton III in Dallas' 17-7 preseason victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday. Brown finished with three receptions for 75 yards, turning limited opportunities into the most memorable performance of the Cowboys' preseason opener.
Brown's first touchdown came on a 39-yard pass from Howell late in the second quarter. He struck again in the third, making a spectacular one-handed catch on a 20-yard fade from Milton.
Neither play surprised Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer.
"The game is not too big for him," Schottenheimer said during his postgame press conference. "He does that every day in practice. We see it all the time."

SEATTLE (AP) — Rookie Camden Brown had two touchdown catches, including a diving, one-handed snag, to help lead the Dallas Cowboys past the Seattle Seahawks 17-7 in the teams' preseason opener Saturday night.
Brown caught a 39-yard pass from Sam Howell in the second quarter to put Dallas up 10-7. On the first drive of the third quarter, Brown snared a fade pass from Joe Milton in the back left corner of the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown.
An undrafted free agent who started his career at Auburn before transferring to Georgia Southern, Brown has stood out throughout training camp. The 6-foot-2, 204-pound wide receiver has made good use of his frame, and demonstrated on Saturday he can also do so in an NFL game.
Milton, who's entering his third pro season and second with Dallas, was impressive in his bid to be the Cowboys' backup quarterback behind Dak Prescott. The 2024 sixth-round draft pick completed six of his first eight passes against the Seahawks' backup cornerbacks, and finished 12 of 15 for 107 yards and the TD to Brown.
Howell, who is competing with Milton for the Cowboys' No. 2 job, was 8 of 12 for 94 yards and his touchdown pass to Brown.

The Cincinnati Bengals have some really solid early contributions from the rookie class this year.
Cashius Howell, their first draft pick, is clearly a capable pass-rusher. Third-rounder Tacario Davis looks like he'll play a key role at boundary corner. Fourth-round wideout Colbie Young will be key depth and seventh-rounder Landon Robinson is making some final-roster noise.
While a little boring, sixth-round offensive lineman Brian Parker quietly just looks like a pro's pro, too.
Parker popped on the live broadcast and eventually on film review too for his steady play. The number eventually backed it up too. Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com pointed out that Parker played 57 snaps, more than any other player on the team, getting looks at guard and center.
Over the course of that versatile work, Parker only let up two hurries on 34 pass-blocking attempts.

The positive news for Cincinnati Bengals rookies coming out of training camp is better than usual.
Colbie Young keeps making big plays at wideout. The team's first pick this year, Cashius Howell, continues to look like he'll be a pass-rushing contributor. Connor Lew is healthy on the offensive line and seventh-rounder Landon Robinson looks like he could be making a push for the final roster.
And then there's third–round pick Tacario Davis.
A huge 6'4" cornerback with upside, Davis has seen some starting reps with the ones lately due to rest days for other players and looked good.
Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com explained: "Higgins beat Davis off the line with a great release, but the 6-4 Davis' catch-up speed came into play. Higgins still should have easily hauled in QB Joe Burrow's beautiful go ball, but with Davis hanging behind him, Higgins didn't pull it in before hitting the ground …"

Texas A&M's running battle between Rueben Owens and Jamarion Morrow continues to take shape, and after an impressive performance this weekend, freshman KJ Edwards' athleticism continues to impress coach Mike Elko and his staff. That didn't take long.
A few days after being waived by his new team, former Cincinnati Bengals defender Cam Sample signed with the Atlanta Falcons.
Sample was a surprise cut by the San Francisco 49ers days ago and a mere months into his first foray with a non-Bengals team. Now, he'll get a chance elsewhere in the NFC to prove during training camp and the preseason that he should stick on a final 53.
A fourth-round pick by the Bengals in 2021, Sample appeared in 61 games with the Bengals before signing elsewhere in free agency.
It'll be interesting to see if Sample sticks at what is now his third pro stop. In the meantime, the Bengals have a four-deep defensive end depth chart with Boye Mafe, Shemar Stewart, Cashius Howell and Myles Murphy leading the way and some nice depth pieces like Cedric Johnson, too.

Among Texas A&M's 17 transfer portal additions, former Northwestern Edge Anto Saka, who recorded 30 pressures last season, has looked utterly dominant over the first three preseason practices, while his business-like approach has garnered plenty of praise from the coaching staff and his new teammates.
While Saka has undoubtedly been one of the more impressive newcomers, sophomore Edge Marco Jones deserves equal praise after putting in the work this offseason, adding more muscle to his frame, now standing 6'5" and 261 pounds. According to AggieYell (subscription required) insider Carter Karels, the former blue-chip prospect has increased his lifting numbers, with his bench press max rising from 385 to 425 pounds, 315 to 350 lb power clean, and 425 to 485 on squat.
Last season, Jones appeared in eight of the Aggies' 13 games, recording 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks, and after a full offseason of learning the defense and filling out his frame, the California native is in line to start at the Jack position, looking to help the pass rush gap after Cashius Howell, who led the SEC with 11.5 sacks last season, was selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Jones' football future is headed towards the NFL if he continues to develop, starting with taking a significant step this fall, and thanks to Carter Karels' in-depth reporting, interviews with Jones' father, Anwawn, Cashius Howell, coach Mike Elko, and baseball coach Michael Earley all convey the same message: Marco Jones is on pace to become Texas A&M's "next great pass rusher."
Outside of training with Texas A&M S&C coach Tommy Moffitt, Karels reported that Marco Jones has been working with private defensive line coach Aaron Day, who trains a plethora of NFL starting D-linemen, while his father's background as a defensive end at Northwestern and Colorado has also aided in his development since his prolific high school career.

Week 1 of the preseason is finally here. NFL fans get a taste of actual football (kind of). The Cincinnati Bengals will continue their trend of giving their starters live reps in the preseason, which they started last year, to hopefully have a better start to the season.
It will be fun to see a little bit of the big names get their sea legs under them, but the vast majority of the game will be spent watching the second-string players, as well as roster bubble players trying to earn their spots on a roster.
Can training camp rookie phenoms wide receiver Colbie Young and edge rusher Cashius Howell translate what they've done on the practice field into a real game scenario? Can some crowded positional rooms sort themselves out? I am looking at the defensive tackle room.
