The Arizona Cardinals will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2026 regular season, and that means facing a much richer dominant defensive lineman. The Eagles agreed to a huge, four-year, $152 million contract extension with Jalen Carter. The deal is worth up to $160 million, meaning the potential for a $40 million per-year average.
In three NFL seasons, he has been a Pro Bowler twice and a second-team All-Pro once.
This is significant for the Cardinals because they have a promising young defensive tackle in Walter Nolen, who, in limited playing time as a rookie, looked dominant.
Nolen is not eligible for a contract extension until 2028, but if he is what the team and fans believe and hope he can be, it means he will be very expensive to extend. In two years, top young defensive tackles will certainly be averaging more than $40 million per year.
Now, worrying about that now is a little foolish, but it is something to watch, especially with Nolen's potential.

DUNEDIN, FL — Clay Holmes has been traded once before. He found out when he was going to the New York Yankees in the checkout lane of a Pittsburgh Target. Pirates GM Ben Cherington called him to tell him he had been traded and Holmes was quickly searching the aisles for a razor. He had a plane to catch and a beard to shave.
Now, five years later, he is on the block again. This time, he's a more known and wanted commodity, and because he has been on the injured list he has had 10 weeks to sit with it.
He doesn't love the uncertainty, but he's not dreading anything.
"It was such a good experience the last time, because I just took it for what it was and accepted it," Holmes said Tuesday night. "I am going to try and do that same thing this time. Whatever happens, I just try and come at it with a new perspective, fresh eyes and just enjoy it and just kind of hang on."
Hanging on is harder this week when the ride hasn't even started.

Robert Lewandowski wanted to remain at Barcelona for another season, and club president Joan Laporta was equally keen for him to stay.
That is according to the striker's agent, Pini Zahavi, who explained the circumstances behind Lewandowski's departure in an interview with Sebastian Staszewski for SportoweFakty (via SPORT).
Zahavi discussed the reasons behind the forward's exit, the offers he received and why he ultimately chose to continue his career in Major League Soccer.
He also suggested that Lewandowski could one day return to Barcelona in a different role, following a conversation with Laporta.

The freshman from Pamiers, France came to Ames last fall with expectations and then promptly exceeded all of them. Jon Rothstein just named him one of five Big 12 breakout players to watch heading into next season. If you watched Iowa State this year that comes as absolutely no surprise.
The Freshman Season
Toure started all 37 games as a freshman tying the school record for starts by a first year player. He averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 ****** ists and 1.5 steals in 25.3 minutes per game. His 54 steals were the fifth most by a freshman in program history. One of only 11 freshmen in the entire country to put up those numbers across the board.
The defensive impact was immediate and undeniable. Tamin Lipsey, the best perimeter defender in the country, called Toure the best defender he had ever played with. When the greatest on ball defender in college basketball says that about a freshman you pay attention.

The Philadelphia 76ers have had a busy offseason with the additions they made in free agency and in the trade market. President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey has been working hard to build a roster that can compete for a championship and look to make the big leap in the Eastern Conference.
The Sixers, obviously, swung the big deal to acquire Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks, but they also signed Dean Wade, Anfernee Simons, and Ariel Hukporti in free agency. They also selected Alabama guard Labaron Philon Jr. with the No. 22 pick in the draft to add to the roster.
ESPN graded each team's offseason and gave the Sixers an A- grade:
Regardless of Jaylen Brown's precise value, turning 36-year-old Paul George into a 29-year-old All-NBA wing is a big win for Philadelphia. The forward positions have long been a concern for the 76ers, but they're on much firmer ground now with Brown and Dean Wade, and Brown is specifically a strong fit next to Joel Embiid because of his reliability.
The 76ers' roster isn't perfect -- it lacks some shooting and is still too reliant on Embiid for its size -- but Philadelphia at least has a narrow path to the Finals now, when such a route didn't exist before this summer.

RJ Moore, a four-star shooting guard in the 2027 class, has scheduled an official visit to Vanderbilt for September 10-13, he told Rivals.
The 6-foot-5 rising senior out of Ambassador Christian (NC) received an offer from the Commodores in June. He's also scheduled to take an official visit to Rutgers.
Moore is ranked as the No. 40 overall recruit in the 2027 class and the No. 8 ranked shooting guard, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an average of all three major recruiting media companies (Rivals, ESPN, 247Sports).
In a previous interview with Rivals, RJ Moore discussed his thoughts on Vandy.
"They had a good year last year, they did really well. I like how Coach (Mark) Byington coaches them hard. I went to a game at Wake Forest when they played Vanderbilt, so I saw them play live last year. And I like the way they play. He lets his guards shoot, and they play fast. They like how I'm able to shoot the ball and my feel for the game."

From record-breaking attendance and soaring television audiences to unprecedented ticket prices and growing commercialization, the 2026 FIFA World Cup may ultimately be remembered as the tournament that changed football forever.

Luis de la Fuente's side defeated Argentina in a one-sided final that somehow stretched into extra time before Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute to secure La Furia's second FIFA World Cup. The scoreline hardly reflected the dominant victory. Spain outshot Argentina 20-3, controlled nearly 70% of possession, and dictated virtually every minute of the match.
This Spain team is difficult to describe. At times the football was beautiful, yet it also felt cold, clinical, and almost mechanical. Every movement seemed rehearsed, every pass calculated. There was elegance and precision, but often little of the emotion, grit, or raw intensity that has traditionally defined football's greatest champions. Spain dismantled France in the semis and Argentina in the final by trusting the same formula, and there was no reason to stray from it.
In many ways, it's ironic that the polished, easy-to-consume product put forth by this Spanish side ended up winning a World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. There is little controversy, little mystery, and even less that demands endless debate. Spain is easy to understand, easy to market, and easy to celebrate, much like the consumer culture surrounding the tournament itself.

Artem Dovbyk's career at Roma is drawing to a close, with the Ukrainian striker set to leave the Stadio Olimpico after two years. According to Calciomercato, Ajax have joined the race to sign the 29-year-old.
Roma dashed out €30.5 million plus €5.5 million in bonuses to secure Dovbyk's services in 2024. He was on fire at Girona, winning La Liga's Golden Boot award in the 2023/24 season, which made the Serie A giants believe he could be an answer to their scoring problems.
However, Dovbyk has never settled into life in Serie A. Last season was disappointing for the robust center-forward, as he made just 14 league appearances and scored three goals. Needless to say, he has fallen out of favor with manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
After being deemed surplus to requirements, he's now preparing to leave Roma. Despite his underwhelming year, the Giallorossi have slapped a €23 million price tag on his shoulders and seem unwilling to budge on their valuation.

With a name like Yoeilin Cespedes, you're supposed to hit for some power.
That's what it feels like when considering the future of this Boston Red Sox infield prospect, at least, because his name sounds a lot like long-time slugger Yoenis Cespedes.
So far this season at High-A Greeneville, Yoeilin is finally growing into his power.
He has 20 doubles, a triple and 15 home runs through 69 games. That gives him a .498 slugging percentage and an .819 OPS.

Boston Red Sox fans will have to wait until All-Star Week to see their standout first baseman play again. Willson Contreras will end up missing five games via suspension, including Thursday’s 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox, for the scrum he took part in with the Washington Nationals at Fenway Park on June 30.
MLB ruled before Thursday’s game in Chicago that, following Contreras’ appeal, his seven-game ban had been reduced, albeit by only two games.
Nationals starting pitcher Cade Cavalli, the instigator in what became a benches-clearing scuffle, also had his seven-game suspension cut down to five games. The right-handed hurler began serving his punishment on Monday; however, he won’t have to miss his next start, which is scheduled for Sunday against the New York Yankees.
Contreras, meanwhile, won’t be able to play for the Red Sox until Game 2 of a July 17 doubleheader versus the Tampa Bay Rays. That said, he will take part in the Home Run Derby and could see the field in the All-Star Game as well, now that he’s a replacement for Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The suspensions’ inciting incident occurred when Cavalli struck out Contreras in the fourth inning of an 8-1 Nationals victory. Cavalli could be heard yelling, "Sit down, boy!” for which he’s since apologized. Contreras started to approach Cavalli, seemingly puzzled by the remark. That led to a confrontation. It evolved into a dustup that saw three players ejected, including Contreras, who threw his helmet in the direction of Cavalli.

There were more than five hours on the clock and yet Novak Djokovic was still not done. As Centre Court shook, Djokovic’s 11-year-old son, Stefan, watched on with his head in his hands, up way past his bedtime but gripped by what his father was producing. Felix Auger-Aliassime stood over a forehand and sensed his moment to strike but Djokovic, in a flash, sprung to his right deep behind the baseline, extending the point and the Canadian third seed’s torment. Auger-Aliassime netted and it broke him; the decisive point in the match tiebreak that settled the longest Wimbledon quarter-final ever, a victory that Djokovic ranked as one of his finest ever on Centre Court.
“These are the moments I still play for,” said Djokovic. If the scoreline - 7-6 (10), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (10-4) - is scarcely believable in itself, the sight of Djokovic, at 39, stretching his limbs and denying the 25-year-old Auger-Aliassime in five hours and 15 minutes, was sheer madness. It equalled the longest match of Djokovic’s Wimbledon career, eight years on from the 2018 semi-final with Rafael Nadal that was held overnight. Djokovic managed this in one epic, gruelling sitting. When the moment required it, he once again raised his level, booking a semi-final with defending champion Jannik Sinner on Friday.
The celebrations were memorable, the victory too - a battle Djokovic prevailed from in front of his children on Centre Court adding to the sweetness. And yet the message afterwards from Djokovic was that he is not done yet. The records - an eighth consecutive Wimbledon semi-final, the 15th of his career - did not matter. “Right now, it's all business,” Djokovic confirmed. The pursuit of the grand slam record and a 25th ***** le is what fuelled his extraordinary fight and refusal to submit, and yet it is still two rounds away. ”I wish it was finals so I don't need to worry about how the body will feel tomorrow,” Djokovic said.
And there could lie the problem. At this stage of his career, and since the gold medal match against Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 Olympics, Djokovic’s finest victories have arrived before the final. Last season, the quarter-finals of grand slams fell in the the sweet spot where Djokovic was fresh enough to compete against younger opponents, but late enough in the tournament where he knew he needed to step it up. He did, in defeating Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open, Alexander Zverev at the French Open, Flavio Cobolli at Wimbledon and Taylor Fritz at the US Open. Outlasting Auger-Aliassime at Wimbledon is another added to the list.
Djokovic, though, arrived at those semi-finals and found that he was physically cooked, unable to recover for the next challenge. The exception came at the Australian Open in January, and was memorable in itself with Djokovic ending Sinner’s reign in Melbourne by beating the world No 1 in five sets. FRISCO, TX — Defensive lineman C.J. Fite and wide receiver Omarion Miller have been selected to the All-Big 12 preseason team released Monday, July 6. The team was unveiled in conjunction with the annual Big 12 Football Media Days to be held at The Star on July 7-8.
Fite is one of three players on this year's ASU team who have been with Kenny Dillingham since his first days as head coach in Tempe, while Miller is a newcomer, having transferred to ASU from Colorado.
Miller is expected to pick up the slack left by the departure of first-round draft pick Jordyn Tyson.
Arizona had one selection, senior quarterback Noah Fifita.
Like last season, the conference did not release a team preseason poll.
