James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas, once described parents who refused to acknowledge their children's gender identity as potentially engaging in "abusive" behavior.
"I think there are some folks that would think that if you deny your child's gender identity, that's incredibly harmful. And whether or not we label it with the term abuse, it's abusive for sure," Talarico said while speaking at a committee hearing in the Texas Legislature in 2019.
Talarico's resurfaced comments add to a growing pile of past remarks that cut against his efforts to paint himself as a moderate on issues like gender, policing and border security as he attempts to win over Texas, a historically Republican-leaning state.

FIRST ON FOX: Roy Cooper, the former North Carolina governor and a Democratic candidate for the Senate, believes his party should incorporate a big-tent approach to an emerging wave of socialist candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
When asked if he would sign the Promise to America, a repudiation of socialist stances put out by moderate Democrats, Cooper said he wouldn't.
"I don't see any need to," Cooper said in video footage obtained by Fox News Digital.

It really just feels like each series the Atlanta Braves have been in lately has been like them leaving a snake pit for a lion's den only to realize that they've stepped into a piranha's pond and escaped that just to find out that the dry land was quicksand. "I don't know how much more battle-tested we need to be," quipped Walt Weiss when he was asked by the media during Tuesday's pregame press conference about the tough schedule that the Braves have been dealing with as of late — and still have to navigate going forward.
Indeed, one of the takeaways from this patch is that the Braves will have faced some of the toughest teams that baseball currently has to offer once they eventually reach the Postseason and they should be more-than-ready to handle whatever's in front of them. With that being said, the Braves had to deal with another serious test in the form of the Tampa Bay Rays and once the smoke cleared, it was less about acing the test and more like simply doing enough to pass the test. Did Atlanta manage that? Let's get into it.
This one was competitive for two innings, as the Braves matched Junior Caminero's two-out dinger off of AJ Smith-Shawver in the first inning with a run of their own in the bottom half of that frame. The deadlock didn't last long at all, as the Rays made the third inning a long one for Smith-Shawver. AJSS was one out away from potentially putting two outs on the board against the Rays in that inning. Instead, Liam Hicks sent one flying into the Georgia night sky for a two-run shot. Smith-Shawver was one out away from keeping it at 3-1 before Victor Mesa Jr. hit a bouncer that eluded the glove of Ozzie Albies and dribbled into the infield for an RBI single that made it 4-1.
AJ Smith-Shawver was only able to make it through 3.1 innings with those four runs allowed, but credit is due to Brent Suter for going 3.2 innings while only giving up a single run while he was out there. Elieser Hernández wasn't as fortunate, as he surrendered two runs across his two innings of work and then got the DFA treatment once the next morning rolled around. It really felt like the Rays were either ****** ing and dunking or hitting moonshots, there was no in-between in this one.
Meanwhile, a nasty trend for the Braves was emerging while they were on the mound. It's not particularly shocking that Freddy Peralta ended up going six innings with just one run allowed since he'd done pretty well in two previous starts against Atlanta with the Mets. It wasn't shocking either to see the Rays bullpen clamp down on the Braves they did on Tuesday, either. What was shocking is that the Braves came out of this game with 11 batted ****** that were at least 95-mph that ended up turning into outs. Folks, that's tough!

It's always fun to joke about air yards.
I do it all the time with my Rotoworld Football Show cohosts in desperately trying to make a case that a player is due for (positive or negative) regression based on his air yards accumulation from the prior week or the past few outings. And it always sounds like one long comedy bit: This player saw so many air yards that could have been converted into actual, real-life receiving yards bro, I swear bro, trust me on this.
Air yards, whether we like it or not — and most fantasy folks definitely do not like it — are a good measure of a pass catcher's opportunity and the type of passing volume in a given offense. That air yards don't always translate into real, edible receiving yards is just part of our frustrating little game. We make small bets here and there and hope things break right from week to week and prove our process correct more often than not. It's not any more complicated than that, even if we desperately want it to be.
Over the past few seasons I have used this ****** e to talk mostly about guys with exceptionally high or low touchdown rates. Air yards has mostly been a side issue in the Regression Files. Call it a winning streak!
Not for the White Sox. Taking two of three from an AL Central rival in what wound up being emphatic 10-1 fashion is always satisfying, but it wasn't two in a row. No, folks, I'm celebrating me and my absolute heater of 10 wins in 11 recap tries. Put me in every day, Brett!
The box score does betray the tension that underlined the majority of this one. Hosting their first Sunday Night Baseball broadcast as a first place team since 2008, the tone of the game was lively early, though the bulk of the early action was a straightforward redux of the frustrating offensive play the Sox have produced since the All-Star break. They rank near the bottom of the league with a .240 batting average with RISP since then, and it feels like that average should be a lot lower, because getting runners in from the basepaths without the longball has been like pulling teeth lately.
The theme continued with verve for what I'd call the majority of the game — though ultimately, and fortunately, not the entirety of it. Sam Antonacci led off the first and fifth innings with a double, sandwiching back-to-back free bases from the non-brothers Montgomery to open the second frame and preceding Tristan Peters' own leadoff double an inning later. They even queued up a rally in the third inning, when Miguel Vargas and Andrew Benintendi reached base before Colson Montgomery's second punchout of the game ended the threat. Colson finished with a golden sombrero, bringing him to 197 on the season. When he presumably reaches the ignominious 200-K milestone, he'll make the White Sox the only team to have three separate players break the 200 strikeout threshold in a season. Yoán Moncada did it most recently, and I don't think I need to type the name of the one who did it first.
If you've been following the team as of late, it won't be surprising that almost none of those White Sox rallies resulted in any runs, as Twins starter Bailey Ober labored through 4 1/3 innings with highly-diminished stuff. Still, when the Minnesota pen got the call, only one Sox run had been stuck on the board, as Antonacci did make his way around in the fifth, after Murakami shot a single through the right side:

The 18-race 2026 IndyCar season has officially come to an end. After Chip Ganassi Racing's Alex Palou had already clinched his fifth championship before the Grand Prix of Monterey, Palou finished just eighth at Laguna Seca – the worst finish of his career at the track.
Instead, it was Scott McLaughlin claiming his first victory of the season to close things out. Andretti Global's Kyle Kirkwood finished second to clinch second in the championship, just 10 points ahead of Arrow McLaren's Christian Lundgaard.
With the season coming to an end, here are five thoughts to wrap up another year in IndyCar.
It had been 35 races since McLaughlin was in victory lane. After going through the longest drought of his career at any level, the 33-year-old went out on top in 2026.
This season has been about baby steps for McLaughlin and the crew on his No. 3 Team Penske Chevrolet. After the team shuffled the personnel around McLaughlin – mainly rehiring former Team Penske president Tim Cindric as strategist and making accomplished IMSA engineer Raul Prados the race engineer – the New Zealander had to adjust to new folks around him.

Just seven days from now, the 2026 NFL season will officially begin for our Minnesota Vikings, as they will host the Green Bay Packers at U.S. Bank Stadium. That means the offseason is officially over, and we asked you as part of our SB Nation Reacts survey for this week exactly what you thought about it. We have those results, and for the most part it appears that folks were relatively happy with how things went.
Of those who took the time to respond to our survey, 45% gave the offseason a "B" grade, which is pretty good. Combine that with the 7% that graded it as an "A," and over half of our respondents think that the purple had a better-than-average offseason overall. Another 34% thought that the moves the team made merited a "C" grade, which is an average mark. So, the overwhelming majority of you seem to think that the offseason in Minnesota wasn't anything approaching a disaster or anything like that.
Still, a few of the people who responded were more on the "gloom and doom" end of the spectrum. There were 11% of the people who responded to the poll that gave the Vikings a "D" for their offseason moves, while the remaining 3% went as negative as possible and slapped a big ol' "F" on what the Vikings have done since the 2025 season came to an end. That seems a little harsh, but everyone is free to have their own perspective on things.
Frankly, I think a "B" is just about right. I think the Vikings addressed a lot of the things they needed to address. Hopefully the quarterback issue is solved, and if it is this team has a lot of potential to do some damage in 2026. The defense should continue to be a menace as long as there aren't too many injuries. Will it be enough to make a run in what should still be the most competitive division in the NFL? We'll have to see.

The Minnesota Vikings' defense is one of the best in the NFL. They were poised to be without Harrison Smith playing for them in 2026, so what does it mean if he returns? Well, the NFL is about to find out.
Late on Saturday, Sept. 6, the Minnesota Vikings and Harrison Smith agreed to terms on a one-year deal for him to play for the team this season. The one-year deal is for a maximum value of $16 million based on incentives, with $8 million guaranteed as a base.

The Vikings' selection of Caleb Banks is going to be debated for months until he steps on the field in a regular-season game. Given the injury concerns, folks will want to see how sustainable his play is, but, of course, they will hope for the best. Beyond the Banks pick though, this class has shown to be decent enough to generate some early contributors throughout camp and the preseason.
When it comes to the depth of it all, it helps explain why Vikings general manager Nolan Teasley is a fan of the group the team selected. This week he spoke to the media, and he discussed the class, saying, "We've seen all of our players improve on a daily basis, and so really excited about the trajectory of the draft class."
On defense, this class could have four impactful players, including defensive linemen Caleb Banks and Domonique Orange. Linebacker Jake Golday is being used in a variety of ways, and safety Jakobe Thomas projects as someone who will be a part of the rotation.
Not a bad class for a first-year general manager to take in when he didn't have a say in any of the picks, as he was with the Seattle Seahawks at the time of the draft.

In 1893, a chemistry professor named Charles Coates arrived at Louisiana State University and wrote that, to his surprise, "there was practically no athletics in the student body: no football, no tennis, and only very little baseball in the spring." A broad program of sports struck him as the kind of thing a school should have, particularly as US universities were beginning to tout intercollegiate athletics as critical to a balanced higher-ed experience and another way to justify the cost of entry. But 133 years on, sports aren't merely the main attraction at LSU. They're the school's raison d'être, the blinkered obsession that consumes the university and its most prominent ambassadors.
Any doubt that the business of educating college students is just a nettlesome distraction from the business of college sports in Baton Rouge has been emphatically dispelled over the past 10 months. On the football side, the school has spent or committed roughly $162m to its last three head coaches: Ed Orgeron, the folksy national champion in 2019 who received a $17m buyout when he was fired two years later; Brian Kelly, the unloved underachiever who received a $54m buyout after being fired last October; and Lane Kiffin, the Kelly replacement whom it signed to a $91m deal a month later. Clemson, the opponent for LSU's season opener at home on Saturday, are about to find out what all that money buys.

In March, LSU brought back men's basketball coach Will Wade, the turnaround artist who became a national emblem of college sports' old pay-for-play hypocrisy when he was caught on an FBI wiretap discussing a recruiting offer seven years ago. "We figured, why not her? She crushed it, and actually really fit into that Tommy aesthetic, too," Kelce told Vogue. "Those are some of my favorite shots."

The practice squad does not always carry excitement in terms of additions from other teams, but in 2026, it did for the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills have had issues at the punt returner position this summer and that bled into the preseason, and that role has suited Greg Dortch well in his career. Not only that, Buffalo only five wide receivers on their 53-man roster instead of six.
There is a clear pathway for Dortch, who was cut by the Detroit Lions, to playing time with the Bills.
That's on paper, at least. There are decision makers involved and those folks have spoken.
"We have a healthy group of guys that can go out there," Buffalo head coach Joe Brady said. "Still don't play for two week so that's going to be part of the process."

Will Stein was ready to make waves the second he accepted the UK football head coaching job.
Stein was named the Kentucky head coach on December 1, 2025, and just four days later, he nabbed a massive four-star recruit in Kenny Darby.
Darby was a consensus four-star wide receiver ranked as high as No. 188 overall by Rivals. The shift wideout caught 83 passes for 1,124 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior in high school, while rushing for 609 yards on 49 carries with nine touchdowns.
The 6-1, 180-pounder chose Kentucky over Alabama, LSU, Colorado, Ole Miss and Mississippi State, among many other suitors. Darby was committed to LSU and followed offensive coordinator Joe Sloan from Baton Rouge to Lexington.
Darby has the chance to make a splash now in his first season donning the blue and white, and folks are paying attention nationally. 247 Sports has named Darby to their Preseason True Freshman All-American Team.

They ******* ed a win in Game One last night with a 4-3 victory in ten innings. Although Brandon Young pitched a strong seven innings, the bullpen couldn't hold onto a meager 2-0 lead, and it took extras to sort things out: two clutch base hits by Coby Mayo and Christian Encarnacion-Strand gave the birds the winning margin of victory.
Let's hope the Orioles make Game Two worth staying up for. Tonight, taking the mound at Sacramento's Sutter Health Park for the Athletics is Jack Perkins, a 26-year-old righty who debuted for the A's in 2025, and has been used mostly as a swingman. In 11 starts and 20 relief appearances in 2026, he has an ugly 6.68 ERA, although it seems he's been the victim of bad defense, to judge by his FIP (4.79) and xERA (3.96). He's still been much more effective as a reliever, going by his ERA splits (4.76 ERA in relief/8.17 ERA as a starter). His best pitch is the sweeper, which generates a 36.1% whiff rate, followed by a decent changeup and cutter. The soft spot in Perkins' ******* nal is his mid-90s four-seamer: it's been his most hittable pitch by far (.318 average, .664 slugging against, Run Value -14), and he still throws it nearly a third of the time. Perkins is also ******* e to the long ball (1.69 HR/9) and to putting runners on via the walk (3.79 BB/9) or hit-by-pitch (9 on the year).
As for the O's starter, I don't know if it's crazy or reasonable to hope for a win, given that it's unlucky Shane Baz who takes his turn on the mound tonight. Despite the fact that Baz (4.04 ERA, 3.34 FIP) has allowed three or fewer runs in 19 of his 26 starts, he doesn't have a win in his last twelve starts (which is incredible to process). And he's been pretty good! He had a 3.68 ERA in June, a 3.00 one in July, and August, while slightly worse, shows him at a 4.30 mark. Poor Baz. Can the schneid please end tonight?
Tonight's lineup features a surplus of lefties. Jackson Holliday back in the leadoff spot, and Henderson, hopefully rested after his day off, hitting third. Dylan Beavers, hot lately, is back in, and so is Cowser playing center field. The newly activated Blaze Alexander is sitting today. However, Coby Mayo, slayer of lefties, is getting a start against the right-handed Perkins anyway, hitting seventh. And Pete Alonso, lately called our team's "iron man," is still out there, hitting, even with a sore calf.
Last night saw these Orioles ******* a game back from Cleveland's lead to put them just two games back of the third and final Wild Card spot. Earlier today, the lowly Royals did the Orioles a huge favor, pummeling the Guardians 8-3, which gives the team chance to make up yet another game! The next four games against the A's and the Rockies, whom the O's visit next, represent a best chance to make score some easy wins in the wild card race

The Commanders have employed a large roster over the spring and summer. It's now time to trim this 91-man group to 53 active players.
We're at that point now, with Washington's preseason formally ending with Friday night's 41-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.
The roster limit drops by a bunch on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
This is never an easy stretch in the NFL, for players who don't make the initial cutdown or the subsequently practice squad formed.
It is part of the league's structure, with competition and fit ultimately deciding which players make the 53-man roster. The Vikings quarterback battle did not even make it to the first preseason game. After weeks of build-up, OTAs, and training camp practices, we have now arrived at a decision on the starter by head coach Kevin O'Connell.
The Minnesota Vikings named Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback for the start of the regular season back on August 11. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news of the decision, and ever since then, the noise around the position has not gotten any quieter for the Vikings.
One thing that folks are doing is projecting out what could happen. ESPN's Kevin Seifert did a fun look at the most likely and least likely outcomes related to Murray. For the least likely outcome. Seifert hinted that injury is going to be their biggest issue that could somehow present a unique opportunity.
He wrote, "Murray gets hurt and/or struggles. McCarthy steps in to replace him, and a light goes on. McCarthy plays the way the Vikings hoped he would when they drafted him, and Minnesota picks up his fifth-year option and confidently anoints him the starter for 2027."
That outcome seems beyond unlikely based on what everyone has seen from McCarthy. If this were the case, one would have to imagine that they draft a quarterback to compete with McCarthy.
