Ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season, HoopsHype is releasing rankings at every position. While Fred VanVleet was rated rather low as a point guard, Rockets star Kevin Durant was recently ranked as one of the best in his position. In a list of the top 27 small forwards in the NBA, Durant placed fifth after averaging 26 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.8 ***** ists, 0.8 steals and 0.9 blocks in 78 appearances last season.
The Duke duo of Jayson Tatum and Cooper Flagg were ranked first and second, respectively, before the newest member of the Philadelphia 76ers (Jaylen Brown) came in at No. 3. No. 4 is a much more controversial choice, as Jalen Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder was given the nod over Durant despite playing in just 33 contests last year. Kawhi Leonard (Raptors), Deni Avdija (Trail Blazers), Franz Wagner (Orlando Magic), Brandon Ingram (Clippers) and Brandon Miller (Hornets) rounded out the top-10.

Notre Dame football won its 2026 season opener on Sunday night, as the Irish used a huge second half to beat the Wisconsin Badgers in Lambeau Field, 41-13.
There was some bad news during the contest, as star safety Brauntae Johnson was seen walking off the field and into the locker room on his own power, then coming back onto the field in the second half wearing a walking boot. The hope was that the injury would not be a significant one, and that is looking like it will be the case.
Mike Berardino of the South Bend Tribune is reporting that Johnson's injury is minor, and is on his left foot. He goes on to say that he could miss more than a few weeks while recovering, but it is not believed to be a season-ending issue.
In another note that Berardino had, he mentioned that defensive tackle Jayson Onye's injury status has still not been determined, as he was also seen wearing a walking boot in the second half. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman will speak shortly on these two players, and we'll soon get confirmation on their injury status.

As the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft, Cameron Boozer joins the Memphis Grizzlies after a historic freshman campaign at Duke.
Boozer was the consensus National Player of the Year, averaging 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.1 ****** ists while shooting 39.1% from 3-point range. He is the only freshman in history to tally at least 700 points, 300 rebounds and 100 ****** ists in a single season.
The 6-foot-8 Boozer ranked second in the country in points (855), second in field goals (290), third in rebounds (389) and fifth in free throws (221). He was also tied for the most double-doubles with 22, becoming just the second Duke freshman to reach that total in a season.
Boozer is the second player drafted with the No. 3 pick in franchise history. He is one of seven Blue Devils to be selected third, joining Christian Laettner (1992), Grant Hill (1994), Mike Dunleavy Jr. (2002), Jahlil Okafor (2015), Jayson Tatum (2017) and RJ Barrett (2019).
The son of former 13-year veteran Carlos Boozer debuted with the Grizzlies in summer league, averaging 18.5 points, eight rebounds, 3.7 ****** ists and 1.8 steals. He was named to the All-Summer League first team, ranking second in points (111) among all players in Las Vegas.

Boston made what many considered the most perplexing move of the offseason when it traded star wing Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers, fresh off a top-six MVP finish, for an aging George and draft capital.
While the 36-year-old has since vowed to give it his all and "represent" for the Celtics, the blockbuster deal remains a constant lightning rod for mockery.

Considering Watson had to play against plenty of star players, one name in particular stood out to him. That is Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards, who is one of the league's most talented scorers. Watson admits that he has a hard time playing against him, which is a normal opinion for most defenders.
Edwards has been one of the most feared scorers in the league for his entire career. He has gone from being a superb slasher to becoming one of the league's most dangerous three-level scorers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are continuing to trim their roster ahead of Sunday's deadline to reach the NFL-mandated 53 players.
According to FOX Sports' Greg Auman, Tampa Bay has now made 20 cuts. The group includes quarterbacks Jake Browning and Connor Bazelak, running back Barika Kpeenu, wide receivers Dean Patterson, Eric Rivers and Jha'Quan Jackson, tight ends Devin Culp and Kenny Fletcher, guards Elijah Klein and Nash Hutmacher, and tackle Marshall Foerner.
Defensively, the Bucs have moved on from defensive linemen Jayson Jones, Josiah Green and Travis Shaw, outside linebacker Yasir Holmes, inside linebackers Nick Jackson and John Bullock, and safety Rashad Wisdom.
Tampa Bay also waived kicker B.T. Potter and long snapper Scott Daly.
The most notable move is Browning, whose departure cleared the way for undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels to serve as Baker Mayfield's backup quarterback. More moves are expected before the 6 p.m. ET deadline as the Buccaneers finalize their initial 53-man roster for the regular season.

McCain's brother, Jayce, is a Player Development Specialist for Duke, and obviously, McCain visited him.

However, Brown ultimately finished sixth in MVP voting even after cementing himself as one of the NBA's elite two-way players.

New Boston Celtics forward Paul George has finally addressed his summer trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.
George averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.6 **** ists last season for the 76ers and had a strong Playoff run, helping the 76ers upset the Celtics from 3-1 down.
The Celtics have since acquired the 36-year-old and are hoping he plays a complementary role to Jayson Tatum in Joe Mazzulla's system next season. It seems like George is excited as well.

Supporters and donors Todd and Michelle Hein were honored at the Indiana State University Athletic Department's sixth annual Tried and True Gala on Friday night.
The couple received the Max and Jackie Gibson Award, given to supporters making a significant impact on Sycamore athletics via service or philanthropic giving.
More than 200 people attended the event at Hulman Center. Among the guest speakers was former ISU basketball standout Jayson Kent, now in the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers system.
The Heins were lauded also by ISU President Mike Godard and Athletic Director Nathan Christensen, family, friends and community members.
"Todd and Michelle have never treated Indiana State as an institution they simply support from a distance, but they have taken an active, personal role in our success," Godard said, according to an ISU news release. "Their financial generosity has been significant, but their greatest impact is found in relationships. They have invested not merely in an athletics department, but in people."

Detroit — The NBA announced on Tuesday morning a tripleheader that will kick off the 2026-27 season on NBC and Peacock. As part of this event, the Detroit Pistons will begin their season and the league's schedule on Oct. 20, facing the Boston Celtics at Little Caesars Arena. The game is scheduled for tip-off at 3 p.m.

Obviously, there's ups and downs in any type of relationship for sure, but on my end, it's nothing but respect. Obviously, except when he plays the Sixers, I hope he does well. Other than that, everything for me is just based in respect."

While the trade that sent Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics to the rival Philadelphia 76ers stunned NBA fans, Philly's new addition has largely kept his thoughts on his former co-star, Jayson Tatum, under wraps—until now.
