Prime Video and Rogers Communications announced a 12-year sublicensing agreement on Tuesday that will see the streamer become the new home of Wednesday night regular-season national NHL games in Canada.
Per the announcement, Prime Video will exclusively broadcast Wednesday night national NHL games in English and French, starting with the 2026-2027 season. The deal includes at least 26 national regular-season NHL games, beginning on Wednesday, September 30.
Amazon's streaming arm will also have exclusive rights to select Stanley Cup Playoff series in Canada, including two First Round playoff series and one Second Round series each season.
Rogers, which operates Sportsnet, has an $11 billion media rights deal with the NHL through the 2037-38 season.
"Our partnership with Prime Video builds on the strong foundation we have established together and reinforces NHL hockey as the most valuable sports content in Canada," said Tony Staffieri, President and CEO, Rogers, in a statement. "As Canada's home of hockey, Rogers is committed to connecting more fans to more NHL hockey and delivering more national games with fewer blackouts on Sportsnet, Canada's #1 sports media brand."

The 22-year-old is understood to be Liverpool's leading target as the club plans for life after Mohamed Salah, although PSG are said to value Barcola closer to €150 million to €170 million.
That gap is significant, yet it does not appear to have deterred Liverpool from moving the situation forward. Free-agent acquisition Keaton Mitchell brings explosive, home-run speed that fits the scheme perfectly, but he faces a strong challenge from Kimani Vidal, who proved his reliability with a productive 643-yard season last year.

But if the young German has taken another step forward this past season, he believes it has come on the defensive side of the ball—and he credits Vincent Kompany for helping make it happen.
“I think I’ve made significant progress in my defensive work. When you have a former world-class centre-back as a coach, you almost have to improve, don’t you? He certainly gives me a lot of good tips, which have already helped me a lot,” Pavlović told Bayern Munich club magazine Säbener 51 (as captured by iMiaSanMia).
It is easy to focus on Pavlović’s passing range and calmness under pressure, but modern midfielders are expected to contribute just as much without the ball. Defending champions Argentina later sealed their place in the last four after a nail-biting 3-1 win over 10-man Switzerland at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium.
Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez scored in extra time for Argentina, who had been on the ropes after a second-half equaliser from Switzerland's Dan Ndoye cancelled out Alexis Mac Allister's early opener for the holders.

LONDON (AP) — Alexander Zverev has more than just defending champion Jannik Sinner to deal with on Sunday in the Wimbledon final.
The 29-year-old German has Type 1 diabetes, which requires him to monitor his glucose levels and, if needed, inject insulin during matches.
Zverev, who won the French Open and is seeking back-to-back Grand Slam ****** les, uses an insulin pen when needed to jab the top of his thigh during changeovers on court.

Zverev disclosed in 2022 that he has Type 1 diabetes, having been diagnosed at age 4. He had previously kept it quiet. If he needed an insulin jab during a match, he'd do it privately during bathroom breaks.

The Colorado Eagles are going to look very different this upcoming season. With 11 free agents choosing to move on from the club, it was important that the Colorado Avalanche start investing in its youth. The Avs extending Taylor Makar's contract for two additional years is one way that they can show it. His extension was not because he shares the same last name as his older brother Cale; it is because he earned it. Taylor still has more to achieve and he might have a breakout season this upcoming year.
Last season, in Makar's first full season in the pros, he did a lot better than expected. He was used in every role from the penalty kill to the power play. His 14 goals and 10 **** ists led all rookies on the Eagles. His ability to adapt during games became his greatest **** et. Makar would find the weakness on the edge of the defense and go on the rush for an opportunity. It usually led to the Eagles getting a scoring chance or starting pressure in the zone. The biggest problem that the Maine Black Bear had was taking penalties. Makar had 56 penalty minutes in 52 games in the AHL. Most of them were at the worst time of the game for the Eagles. Now former head coach Mark Letestu mentioned it was Makar's one weakness. That he needed to learn to control his stick and his massive size.
Makar impressed the Avalanche with a call-up last season and played in 12 NHL games. So much so that he is one player named by Jared Bednar who will get ample chances this upcoming season. Makar showed drastic improvement during his opportunity with the Avalanche, coming very close to a goal frequently. Makar's learning experience in the AHL and the NHL will come in handy this coming season. He will be less hesitant, allowing his play to be more of a second nature. Chances are very high that the power forward could see top-six minutes while playing in Loveland and hopefully increased minutes on the bottom-six in Denver. If we put these factors together, Makar could see his first point in an Avalanche sweater and his first 20-goal season in his career.
Taylor has done a lot to distance himself in the way he plays his game from the way Cale does. Fans should not hold him to the same expectations as they do his older brother. I think Taylor could morph into a long-lasting bottom-six forward that can kill penalties and hit the offense off the puck. He may not take the same path as Cale did, but they will end up on the same bench once again this season.

The Kentucky Wildcats and coach Mark Pope have put together a talented roster for the upcoming season, and Pope has praised the makeup of the team continually this offseason. There's one player he recently made sure and point out as having an exception summer, though.
Trent Noah is Bluegrass product, hailing from Harlan, Kentucky. After committing to South Carolina originally, he switched it up and headed to Lexington. He was rated three stars coming out of high school, and ranked as a top 125 player by 247Sports.
As summer practices have begun for the Wildcats, Pope spoke to Kentucky Sports Radio this week to talk about how things are going. He spoke especially well of Noah.

Manchester United are about to announce their first summer signing after Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos put pen to paper on his contract at Old Trafford, Fabrizio Romano reveals.
The Red Devils hold a long-standing interest in Santos, dating back to last summer when attempts were made to include him in negotiations over Alejandro Garnacho's switch to Stamford Bridge.
At that point, Chelsea were adamant that the 22-year-old was not for sale and plans were shelved, with Garnacho eventually being sold for £40 million.
However, United maintained contact with his agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, in case the opportunity to reignite a move presented itself.
Two meetings were held with Bertolucci earlier this year, in February and March, to gauge the viability of a deal this summer, sensing it was possible as the Brazil international had grown frustrated with his lack of game time in West London.

Freiburg are set to receive a club record fee of a reported €60 million ($68.5 million) from Newcastle United for the transfer of young Switzerland star Johan Manzambi.
Sky TV said on Thursday that Newcastle and Freiburg have reached an agreement on the deal and that the Magpies are working on the final details with Manzambi's side.
There has so far been no official confirmation.
The 20-year-old has been at Freiburg since 2023 and has lately made big waves at the World Cup with three goals and two ***** ists.

LOS ANGELES — Mookie Betts looked like the hitter the Dodgers have been waiting to see all season.
With the game hanging in the balance Wednesday night at Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium, Betts delivered the defining swing of the evening, lining a ninth-pitch RBI single in the eighth inning to lift the Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies and secure the series win.
It wasn't just another base hit. It was the kind of at-bat that reminds everyone why Betts remains one of baseball's premier big-game performers.
After fouling off three different pitches against Rockies reliever Antonio Senzatela, Betts refused to give in. With Tommy Edman perched at third and Freddie Freeman at first, he finally shot a line drive back through the middle to score Edman for the go-ahead run. It marked Betts' 20th RBI with runners in scoring position this season.

Kevin Young has added another intriguing prospect from overseas.
Lithuanian wing Dovydas Buika has signed with BYU, the program announced Wednesday.
“We’re super excited to welcome Dovydas to the BYU family,” Young said in a statement. “He brings a lot of versatility to our back court with the ability to play multiple positions. He has played for a great club in his home country of Lithuania and has learned how to play the game the right way because of it.
“He’s got great positional size and a competitive edge to him that will fit in well with our group. We look forward to getting him on campus and getting to work.”
The 6-foot-6, 19-year-old Buika played 21 games for Lithuania’s Jonava Hipocredit this past season, averaging 3.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 ******* ists with a single game-high point total of 14.

SEATTLE — Even though he said he had no involvement with the decision, United States men's national team player Folarin Balogun wasn't surprised about the controversy surrounding his sudden availability to play in the round of 16.
Balogun was cleared to play against Belgium after a one-game ban he was dealt as a result of a red card in the round of 32 against Bosnia and Herzegovina was lifted, a shocking move from FIFA. After the USMNT was eliminated from the World Cup with a 4-1 loss to Belgium, Balogun spoke of the situation for the first time since he was allowed to play.
"When that decision's overturned, of course it's going to be controversial," he told reporters. "So for me, it's something that it didn't really surprise me too much. But as a player, my job is just to go out there and focus on my job."

Barcelona midfielder Gavi is not expecting his club to sign Mikel Oyarzabal this summer from Real Sociedad as he expects the striker to remain with the Basque side.
There’s been talk that Oyarzabal could be on Barcelona’s radar this summer if Julian Alvarez can’t be tempted to Camp Nou, but Gavi doesn’t see such a transfer happening.
“I know Oyarzabal wants to be a Real Sociedad legend and I think he will stay there forever,” he told Catalunya Radio.
