Lone Peak's girls soccer team churned out a dream 40 minutes in the second half at American Fork on Thursday.
In a showdown between the No. 2 and 3 teams in 6A, the Knights ripped off six goals in the second half as they ran away with the 6-0 victory in their most complete performance of the season.
The win ran Lone Peak's winning streak to eight straight, and coach Shantel Jolley said it was nice to see her team finish off a game in regulation after its three previous wins all went into overtime, and two ultimately into penalties.
"The last three games we've had tight games, double overtime, and so we kind of wanted to finally get one where we weren't going into overtime and playing 100 minutes, so that was kind of my challenge to them today," Jolley said.
Even though breakthrough didn't come until the second half, Lone Peak's attack was dangerous from the get-go as it put American Fork's defense under pressure early in the match.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KSNW) – KU is looking towards the Border Showdown against Missouri after its 51-6 rout of LIU.
The Jayhawks accumulated more than 600 yards of offense, but now, the juices will be flowing a little more this week for the 122nd installment of the rivalry with the Tigers, which returned last year after a 14-year hiatus.
"Last year, getting the teams back together reignited the sparks so to speak of this rivalry and the intensity of it," Kansas head coach Lance Leipold said. "Now, it's not on the books for a while after Friday, so hopefully it can be."
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in Lawrence.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Aroldis Chapman notched his 400th career save, Eli White hit a three-run homer following an error by Gunnar Henderson and the Boston Red Sox capped a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a 3-1 victory Sunday.
Chapman gave up a one-out single in the ninth before striking out Coby Mayo and Christian Encarnacion-Strand to become the ninth player in major league history to record 400 saves. The 38-year-old Chapman earned his first save in 2011 with Cincinnati went on to have 10 seasons with 30 or more, including 33 this season.
Over his lengthy career, Chapman has totaled 24 saves against Baltimore. The lefty got one Friday night that started Boston on its sweep of the sinking Orioles.
Coming off two straight shutout losses, the Orioles used successive two-out doubles by Mayo and Encarnacion-Strand to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
In the second, with two outs and a runner on, Henderson failed to make a backhand stab of a grounder to shortstop. White followed with a drive off Kyle Bradish (7-13) that cleared the left-field wall.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Blaze Berlowitz threw for 149 yards and ran for 45 yards and a touchdown as Vanderbilt beat Austin Peay 28-9 in the Commodores' season opener Saturday night that ended with 2:16 left after lightning near the stadium stopped play.
Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea and Austin Peay coach Jeff Faris huddled with the referees and officials on the field. Then the public announcer said the game was over with the stands mostly emptied before fireworks went off.
Berlowitz made the first start of his career with some of the biggest cheers were reserved for freshman quarterback Jared Curtis, who flipped his commitment from Georgia last December. Curtis made his debut just before halftime and finished up in the fourth quarter after Vanderbilt went up 28-9.
Brock Taylor kicked two field goals, his second from 37 yards putting Vanderbilt ahead to stay at 8-6 in the second quarter. Martel Hight returned a blocked extra point for a 2-point conversion, and Sedrick Alexander ran for 60 yards and an 18-yard TD.
Josiah Broxton returned a rushed punt after a high snap 27 yards for a TD to pad Vanderbilt's lead to start the fourth quarter.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (16:30pm BST).
Here are the key lines from his news conference:
Speaking about not signing another forward during the transfer window, Arteta said: "I love the players that we have, that is for sure. It is what it is, this is what we have and we already have some very, very good players. Let's trust them and let's make sure we are right behind them, and I will do everything we can to help the incredible talent that we have."
In May, Arteta called on ***** nal to be "very ambitious, very fast and very smart" this summer and when asked if he thinks that has happened, he replied: "One hundred per cent ticked. The outcome after can be different to what you expect, but the intention was certainly there which is what I value most."
Bruno Guimaraes is being ***** sed after picking up a knock against Aston Villa, but Arteta expects him to be "ok for training" on Saturday.

After deploying Cristian Javier behind an opener in his last outing against the Mets, the Houston Astros will have the right-hander make a traditional start in their upcoming series against the Diamondbacks.
Javier will start Friday's series opener against Arizona at Daikin Park. Ethan Pecko and Peter Lambert are scheduled to start the final two games of the series, which concludes a stretch of 13 games with no off-day for Houston.
Javier has a 6.45 ERA in 44 ⅔ innings this season, starting eight of his 13 appearances. He is allowing a 1.104 OPS when facing hitters for a second time in a game as a starter.
Pecko will make his fourth major-league start after recording his first career win in his last outing at Citi Field, allowing two runs over five innings. Javier, Pecko and Lambert will all pitch on five days' rest after the Astros used Ronel Blanco for a spot start Tuesday against the White Sox.
Blanco, who remains on the roster, should be available in a relief role this weekend against Arizona, said manager Joe Espada. After Sunday, the Astros will not play more than six games in a row without an off day for the rest of the regular season.

College football's coaching carousel was a doozy last winter, spinning wildly and putting some new faces in new places.
That ride included Lane Kiffin's closely watched move from Ole Miss to LSU.
A slew of schools were desperate to find the right man to help them win games and generate revenue for athletic departments that have a lot of bills to pay in the new era of college athletics.
Michigan coach Sherrone Moore's firing and arrest created a job opening with college football's winningest program and Kyle Whittingham took the job, shortly after stepping down at Utah.
Here's a look at some notable first-year coaches at Power Four schools:

Silvestre Sanchez may have punched his way to a UFC deal.
At Dana White's Contender Series 90 on Tuesday, Mexico's Silvestre (10-1) proved the oddsmakers wrong as he finished England's Liam McCracken (8-2) with a big left hook to close their lightweight bout at Meta APEX in Las Vegas. The stoppage came at 2:44 of Round 3.
The fight was competitive with both men having their moments. Silvestre seemed a step ahead, and bloodied McCracken in Round 2. A looping punch floored McCracken midway through the final round, and a glancing hammerfist finished off the job.
The finish got a big reaction out of UFC CEO Dana White and CBO Hunter Campbell.
Sanchez, 24, carved out his reputation on the Mexican regional scene with standout performances for Lux Fight League. Tuesday's win was the fourth knockout of his pro career. He has five career submissions as well.

Will Stein was ready to make waves the second he accepted the UK football head coaching job.
Stein was named the Kentucky head coach on December 1, 2025, and just four days later, he nabbed a massive four-star recruit in Kenny Darby.
Darby was a consensus four-star wide receiver ranked as high as No. 188 overall by Rivals. The shift wideout caught 83 passes for 1,124 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior in high school, while rushing for 609 yards on 49 carries with nine touchdowns.
The 6-1, 180-pounder chose Kentucky over Alabama, LSU, Colorado, Ole Miss and Mississippi State, among many other suitors. Darby was committed to LSU and followed offensive coordinator Joe Sloan from Baton Rouge to Lexington.
Darby has the chance to make a splash now in his first season donning the blue and white, and folks are paying attention nationally. 247 Sports has named Darby to their Preseason True Freshman All-American Team.

Last night, Brady House hit one of the more impressive home runs I have seen at Nationals Park. In the third inning, House absolutely unloaded on a 99 MPH fastball from Eury Perez. He sent it on to the concourse an estimated 474 feet, well at least at first. It was a perfect swing and an absolutely **** anic blast.
There have been plenty of ups and downs in Brady House's first 145 games as a big leaguer. However, swings like that are what keeps fans dreaming. House has not had the same sort of rapid improvement that we have seen from some hitters, but he has certainly improved. His chase rate is down 3%, his barrel rate is up over 8% and his walk rate is up over 4%.
These are all important steps in the right direction for a talented but raw hitter. A big reason for these improvements is House having a more defined plan of attack during at bats and before games. After the game, House talked about going into his cage sessions with more of a purpose instead of just swinging to get reps.
Blake Butera said that he expects to see more power from House as he develops that approach. As we saw last night, raw power is not the problem here. House hits the ball hard consistently, and can hit some absolute moon shots. He has all the raw tools to hit 30 homers, he just needs more refinement. Since he has come back from the minors, he has taken steps in the right direction in that regard.
Speaking of that moon shot, the distance of the homer became a source of slight controversy. At first, the distance was shown as 474 feet, which would be tied for the longest home run by a big leaguer all year. However, that total was changed to 445 feet later on. Interestingly, Heriberto Hernandez also hit a homer 445 feet in the 8th inning. At least to the naked eye, House's looked like it went significantly further.

With Jonathan ****** inga, a player the Los Angeles Lakers had been pursuing all summer, off the board and heading to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Lakers are almost out of options as far as two-way wings or forwards.
However, there is one intriguing two-way wing who is still available in free agency: Bruce Brown. Brown, an eight-year NBA veteran, remains unsigned after a strong year with the Denver Nuggets.
During a recent livestream for Bleacher Report, NBA insider Jake Fischer said that Brown is a possibility for Los Angeles.
"I think he's in the mix for the Lakers, a team that has had some interest in him for several years now," Fischer said.
Last season, Brown averaged 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 ****** ists in 24.4 minutes a game while shooting 47.5% from the field and 38.5% from 3-point range. He returned to the Nuggets after spending the previous two years with the Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans.

With Andretti Global's Kyle Kirkwood winning the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, IndyCar's final street race in 2026, there was one common denominator in all six street races: They were won by a car with a Honda engine.
Honda went 6-of-6 on the street circuits (two Kirkwood wins, three Alex Palou wins and one from Marcus Ericsson) while Chevrolet, IndyCar's other engine manufacturer, didn't win any.
To sweep the streets, Honda never really had to scrape by in any race, as a Honda engine led 542 of the 597 (90.7%) of the laps on streets this year while claiming 15 of the 18 podium spots. The manufacturer has won 19 of the last 21 street races dating back to 2023, when it also swept the streets.
Honda has won 10 of the 15 races, including Felix Rosenqvist's win in the Indianapolis 500 for Meyer Shank Racing. After Chevrolet closed the gap with three straight wins in June and July, Honda has separated itself by winning four in a row.
"I think the fact that we won the 500 and we also turn around and we're doing it currently on street courses, it makes me proud for the team," Honda Racing Corporation USA vice president Kelvin Fu told IndyStar. "And a lot of it is, it's just not us, it's Andretti and it's (Chip Ganassi Racing), right? It's a combination of their ability to develop their car control and the drivers and surviving a 147-lap, ******* py street course."

The New York Yankees could be facing a difficult decision involving former NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton, and his latest injury may have accelerated that conversation and even his future in MLB.
According to the latest article from The Athletic's Chris Kirschner, the Yankees could move on from Stanton after the 2026 season as they evaluate the designated hitter position and look toward 2027.

The India-Sri Lanka series shifts venues for its decider, moving from Galle's spin-friendly track to the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, which is a ground known for offering a very different kind of contest.
Batting first has historically paid off at this venue, with teams regularly posting big totals early in matches, which makes Wednesday's toss potentially decisive.
Rain looms as a genuine concern too, with forecasts suggesting interruptions across all five days, while Colombo's heat is expected to sap energy from the bowling attacks. Spin has still had the upper hand recently, as spinners have picked up 45 wickets across the last three Tests here, compared to 35 for the pacers.
India arrive full of confidence following their commanding 165-run win in the series opener. Devdutt Padikkal, KL Rahul, and Manav Suthar were the standout contributors in Galle. They will fancy their chances of completing a 2-0 sweep, a result that would also strengthen their push toward the 2027 World Test Championship final.

LOS ANGELES -- The Sparks (12-24) home stand resumes as they play the second of four games at Crypto on Saturday. They have the Connecticut Sun.
The less the game against the Dream last Thursday is talked about, the better for the Sparks. They're going to throw that away and move on.
To be fair, the Sparks probably want to throw away the 2026 season. They're currently in a six-game losing streak. They've lost 13 of their last 15 games. What was supposed to be a run to the playoffs has turned into a run to the lottery. For the sixth consecutive year. This team was once 8-8 and it all came crashing down. Everything that could go bad for the Sparks went bad.
And that includes going against the Connecticut Sun (9-26). They're 0-2 against the Sun. They never led in their loss on Tuesday in Boston.
But the Sparks just have to keep pushing through.

ARLINGTON, Tex. - Baseball can be a funny thing. One night you can score 18 runs, and the next you can be held scoreless through nine full innings.
That's the situation the Los Angeles Angels found themselves in against the Texas Rangers on Friday, though they likely weren't laughing after taking a scoreless game into the 10th inning before falling 2-1 to the Rangers.
Reid Detmers was on the mound for Los Angeles and he delivered yet another stellar start, going six innings without allowing a run while allowing six hits and one walk while striking out five.
It was Detmer's seventh-straight start of allowing three earned runs-or-less, but in a recurring theme for the southpaw, the Angels offense didn't show up for him and he left the game once again with a no-decision.
While Detmers and the three Angels relievers that followed him through the ninth inning held the Rangers to a zero on the scoreboard, Mackenzie Gore and his staff did the same thing for the Rangers.

More than a few observers at one of BYU's preseason training camp practices last week had to scramble to find their rosters after a defensive back picked off a ball intended for receiver Reggie Frischknecht.
Who's No. 15?
That would be cornerback Jayven Williams, a transfer from Mobile, Alabama, by way of Kennesaw State and the SEC's Mississippi State who, surprisingly to some, chose BYU for his final season of college football eligibility. Williams, 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, has turned some heads in camp with his playmaking ability and outstanding speed.
Returning starters Tre Alexander and Evan "Shmev" Johnson seemingly have the starting cornerback spots locked up, but keep an eye on Williams as a guy who could see considerable playing time in the secondary.
Redshirt junior Kevin Doe and redshirt freshman Jordyn Criss are also in the mix, said new BYU cornerbacks coach Lewis Walker after spring camp. Sophomore Jonathan Kabeya is still in the rehab process as the Cougars look to replace Mory Bamba, now a member of the New York Jets.

Karl Mecklenburg originally shared this post on his social media pages, and it was re-shared here with permission.
The Broncos' first-preseason game went well. They beat Atlanta in a quiet and mostly empty stadium. Quarterback Jerrett Stidham bounced back from his disastrous AFC Championship appearance and had a good showing with the Broncos' first-team offense. The Broncos' offensive line gave him great protection and Stidham threw the ball well. The Broncos defense got some turnovers and controlled the game throughout. Rookie players who stood out to me were undrafted free agent wide receiver Joseph Manjack IV and 4th round running back Jonah Coleman. I was also impressed with Davis Webb calling the plays. Not only was the Atlanta defense off balance but Denver didn't have to waste any timeouts due to communication problems.
Sam Ehlinger, the other quarterback fighting for a position behind Bo Nix, didn't play as well. He didn't have the advantage of playing with the starters last Friday and it showed. Hopefully this Friday we will see Bo Nix quarterbacking the first-string group with Ehlinger getting some time with the first team line, backs, and receivers as well.
Last Friday was the [eighth] preseason win in a row for the Broncos. Preseason wins don't count for qualifying for the playoffs, but winning becomes a habit. When a team prepares to win, and expects to win, they play to win. The veterans set the tone. They were engaged on the sidelines, encouraging the backups, and congratulating them for big plays and scores. When veterans in any business are engaged and supportive of newcomers it makes a huge difference.
This Friday the Green Bay Packers will be in Denver to play the Broncos. The stadium won't be quiet or half empty like it was in Atlanta. I would expect the healthy first-string players to play for the first half, and maybe one series into the second half. Playing one series into the second half would allow them to work on making half time adjustments with play caller Davis Webb, like they will in the regular season. With the preseason goals of identifying talent, staying healthy, growing as a team, and always playing to win, this Friday's game should be fun. Go Broncos!

The lawsuit filed by Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores against the NFL and various teams has finally moved forward (as to several of the pending claims) to the discovery process. Which gives Flores's lawyers a certain degree of latitude to seek information that could help prove one or more of his claims.
As noted by Daniel Kaplan, Flores has asked the NFL to produce documents relating to the Jon Gruden and Colin Kaepernick cases. The NFL is resisting.
"Requests concerning Colin Kaepernick and Jon Gruden, along with other requests raised by Flores at the August 14 conference, are likewise not relevant or discoverable," the NFL's outside counsel wrote to the court, per Kaplan.
On the surface, there's no connection to the Flores cases. To the extent, however, that his claim against the Texans arises from the argument that he wasn't hired to coach the team in retaliation for his recent filing of a race discrimination lawsuit against the NFL, the Dolphins, the Giants, and the Broncos, the Kaepernick case becomes arguably relevant.
Like Kaepernick, Flores claims he was essentially blackballed via collusion of the franchises. While Flores has found employment as an ******* istant with the Steelers and Vikings, Flores has consistently been overlooked for head-coaching jobs.

LAND O' LAKES, Fla. (AP) — Bill Rasmussen, who co-founded ESPN in 1979 after being fired from a public relations job in the World Hockey ******* ociation, died Tuesday. He was 93.
ESPN historian Mike Soltys said Rasmussen died at his Florida home from the effects of Parkinson's disease. Rasmussen announced in 2019 that he had been diagnosed with the degenerative disease in 2014.
"Bill was a remarkable man — a visionary and an innovator who conceived the idea of a network entirely devoted to sports," ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said in a statement. "Quite simply, none of us would be here today if it wasn't for Bill's passion and all the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit he put into building ESPN in the late 1970s — key aspects of our company culture that still carry on to this day."
Rasmussen and his son Scott came up with the idea of a network carrying sports around the clock, and it would revolutionize Americans' TV-watching habits. But the pair didn't stick around long. They were forced out after only a year by ESPN majority owner Getty Oil.
Bill Rasmussen's original idea was a cable channel covering only Connecticut sports. Many cable operators in the state were skeptical, but someone suggested buying satellite time to reach a national audience.

While everyone is gearing up for the Ohio State football season, and rightly so with the Buckeyes checking in as the preseason No. 1 team in both the preseason US LBM Coaches and **** ociated Press polls, the OSU basketball team is still putting in some work in the offseason to begin its season this winter.
One of the things some college basketball teams do these days is to take an overseas trip for added scrimmage and practice time, and for Jake Diebller's crew, they decided to get on an airplane and visit Puerto Rico to take in some sunshine, enjoy all the island has to offer, and, of course, get in some time playing as a unit against competition other than themselves.
We didn't really get to see much from the trip, but thanks to the Ohio State basketball creative team, we can get a little peek of the action in a short two-minute and 40-second video recap. From taking in the food and culture, hosting a kids' camp for island residents, to sailing on the ocean, to some scrimmage highlights with plenty of dunks, we think the video is well worth the little bit of your time to watch.
The national media has had a hard time figuring out what this Ohio State basketball team will be in the 2026-27 season, but some are calling the Buckeyes a dark horse. Based on some of the buzz we've heard and these highlights, don't be surprised if Ohio State punches above its projected weight this coming season.

The Vanderbilt Commodores started the 2026 season with a win that left a "bitter" taste in Coach Darren Ambrose's mouth according to his post-game interview. He used the words sluggish, lethargic, and choreographed to describe the performance. Coach Ambrose harped on being proud and happy with the victory, but he kept focusing on different flaws in the performance. If you saw my comments during and after the match, I am proud to say Coach and I are on the same wavelength.
The pushback that I got was that it was just game 1. It was. I am not panicking. My predictions for the season have not changed. My thoughts about the talent on the team have not changed, except for some concern about one particular position. Armas in goal was not very convincing. Again, it was match 1. I am not going to react too strongly yet.
The Commodores had plenty of possession and tons of shot attempts. They spent more than a third of the match (35%) in possession in the attacking half. Attempting 21 shots but with only 7 on target is where the sharpness and intensity that Ambrose found lacking came into play. They generated 11 corners yet did not score off one. Conversely, SMU was able to turn 21% attacking possession and 8 shot attempts into 4 shots on target and 3 goals. Granted, 1 goal for the Mustangs was a cross that deflected off Grace Freeman's leg in a truly unfortunate moment where Armas was diving out to claim the cross.
The number of players used is really intriguing to me. Typically, Coach Ambrose has gone deep into the bench early in seasons. It normally is paired down to 14 to 16 by the time SEC play starts, but early season matches often see 20 or more players. The tightness of the match and dissatisfaction with the performance may have been why the starters played more as they tried to work out the kinks.
Courtney Jones, Olivia Stafford, and Sydney Watts all have 4 shot attempts and a goal is not particularly surprising. I would have expected Pentz to get off more shots, but she had the early goal on her only attempt. I do not think Fullerton at CAM and Pentz at striker beside Watts is the best lineup for this squad based on natural inclinations of the players and how that effects ******* ing.

The Baltimore Ravens couldn't have asked for a much better start to the Jesse Minter era. With most of the team's projected starters watching from the sideline, Baltimore dominated the Philadelphia Eagles 24-7 on Saturday night at M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens outgained Philadelphia 440-159, controlled possession for more than 41 minutes and held the Eagles to just six first downs.
The final score matters little in the preseason, but several individual performances provided legitimate reasons for optimism.
Here are the biggest takeaways from the preseason opener
Joe **** nano was 22-of-28 for 223 yards with one TD and one interception.
The rookie wide receiver continued the momentum he built throughout training camp. Lane finished with three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown, including an impressive 18-yard touchdown connection with Joe **** nano. Lane's ability to attack the football and make contested catches was one of the biggest storylines of camp, and he immediately carried that ability into his first NFL game.

MARKHAM, Ontario (AP) — IndyCar officials called off the first day of practice and qualifying Friday at the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham after the race promoter failed to complete the track.
The event is in its first year in Markham after leaving Toronto's Exhibition Place, the race site since its inaugural running in 1986.
Once the track is completed, IndyCar will inspect the circuit to ensure it's safe. Officials hoped to squeeze all the activities scheduled for Friday into the Saturday schedule ahead of the race Sunday.
The temporary circuit, built for the first time this week, runs between Kennedy Road, Enterprise Boulevard, the Unionville GO tracks and Highway 407.
Some of the incomplete features included a pedestrian bridge over Enterprise Boulevard that would connect parking to the main spectator compound as well as ports cut into safety fencing for marshals to wave hazard flags through.

The Federation of Deportivo Supporters' Clubs, Old Faces and Riazor Blues have called on Deportivo supporters to stay away from the stadium for the clash with Real Madrid.
The groups are protesting against the conditions imposed on season-ticket holders in the Lower Marathon stand, which they believe are "discriminatory" and "unfair".
The supporters' groups want the Deportivo board to reconsider the measures affecting fans in the Lower Marathon section.
They argue that the club has moved too far away from the identity and traditions that have traditionally connected Deportivo with its supporters.
