Henry Winkler is "still working on his perspective" about his relationship with Tom Hanks.
Winkler, 80, gained notoriety for playing Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli on Happy Days, and first crossed paths with Hanks when the now-70-year-old actor landed a guest star role in a 1982 episode of the sitcom.
Hanks went on to star in movies and the pair briefly reunited in 1989 when Winkler signed on to direct Turner & Hooch, only to leave the project soon after due to on-set disagreements.
In September 2026, Winkler talked about his experience working on the movie and his ongoing tension with Hanks on In Depth With Graham Bensinger.
He explained that he worked with Hanks "before he was a movie star," but hinted that he wasn't sure what went wrong with their relationship, as years later, the actor did not seem interested in reuniting.

America's F1 hopeful Colton Herta pulls out of the sprint F2 race in Madrid with illness, but it comes after the FIA penalised him to start from the pitlane.
It is not going well for America's F1 hopeful Herta at all in the FIA Formula 2 (F2) Championship in 2026. Having taken a big step to move away from IndyCar in the hope of securing enough superlicence points to race in Formula 1, potentially with Cadillac, the season hasn't gone his way at all.
Racing for Hitech GP, Herta is 17th with 26 points after 10 rounds, with a best result of fifth. The American is racing at F1's new Madring circuit in Madrid on Spanish GP weekend. He started it well in fourth. He was doing well in qualifying in the Top 10 for the most part.
However, he dropped to 12th in the end after he suffered a crash at Turn 19 to end the session. Following the day's run, just before Restricted Period One kicked in for F2 teams, Hitech GP found a problem with the American's car, which they started to work on.
Since it was a priority, they continued working into Restricted Period One and therefore were in breach of Article 21.6a of the F2 regulations. The technical delegate reported the matter, and the stewards duly penalised him with a pitlane start in Madrid's sprint race on Saturday.

In two weeks, USC faces Oregon in the Trojans' game of the year, the one which will shape the rest of their season. Oregon's outlook after the Boise State game is marked by concern and optimism. The concern comes from how poorly the Ducks played. The optimism comes from being able to win in spite of the below-par performance. Ducks Wire noted the good and bad performers from the game. Ducks Wire liked what it saw from linebacker Dylan Williams:
"The biggest riser on the defense in my mind was linebacker Dylan Williams, who played a huge role in this game, stepping up alongside Jerry Mixon and Devon Jackson in that linebacker room. While his stats don't jump off the page, Williams was flying around the field and had a huge impact on this game, earning some high praise from Dan Lanning when all was said and done. Expect to see a lot more of Williams this year."
Ducks Wire did not like what kick returner Evan Stewart brought to the table:
"As a wide receiver, Evan Stewart was great on Saturday, with eight catches for 72 yards. As a punt returner, though, Stewart left a bit to be desired. He had a trio of mistakes: a fair catch at the 3-yard line and two ****** ed punts, one of which was recovered by Boise State. In the end, Oregon was still able to get the win, and Lanning expressed support of Stewart after the game, but it's clear that this operation needs to clean up going forward for the Ducks, or we may see someone else back there in the return game."

Manchester United supporters' group have revealed how they will protest during Sunday's Manchester derby.
The Red Army said there will be no flag display ahead of the game as part of a protest which follows the club's investigation into ticket touting.
United revealed they had banned 685 season tickets following a contentious probe which had been condemned by many, with protests already planned for Sunday afternoon.
The Red Army said they will make their own views known by removing their regular flag display in the Stretford End and replacing it with a single banner above the players' tunnel. It will read: "The way you treat us is a disgrace."
In a statement, the group said: "This isn't a 'TRA' message, it's a message on behalf of every genuine fan group, match-going supporter, supporters' club and fan representative who has either contacted us directly or been negatively impacted by the recent behaviour of the club.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo spoke with reporters on Friday. He shared his expectations for the defense against the Denver Broncos in Week 1 and improvement goals throughout the season.
"Listen, other coaches have said it, and I feel the same. It might take the first month, that's four games. I guess we're going to have the bye (week) into it; it may take that (long) to figure out exactly," said Spagnuolo. "Now, you just hope that while you're figuring it out, you're finding a way to win some games because you don't want to be behind the eight ball after the first month, but that's real."
The Chiefs defense has done well over the last few seasons against a team's top wide receiver. In 2025, the unit held quarterbacks to under 200 yards passing per game. Spagnuolo hopes to build on that, with veterans influencing the new players.
"I think that's real, now, if you have a really, really veteran team, it might be a little bit different, but because of the way the league is with free agency and all that, it seems like we've always got some new pieces that we've got to get used to, probably more so this year," said Spagnuolo. It's going to take a little while, but it's the reason why, when we went into this game plan, we tried to shave things off because we want the guys to play as fast as they can."
Kansas City ranked in the top 10 in points allowed, giving up 19.3 points per game. They will be in for a battle on Monday Night Football against a lethal Broncos offense with their starting quarterback Bo Nix back on the field. He is confident in the defense being up for the challenge after three preseason games.

LeBron James has faced criticism throughout his basketball career. On Friday, former NBA lottery pick Olden Polynice took aim at LBJ for falling short of a certain statistical feat.
Appearing on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Polynice (who was drafted eighth overall by the Chicago Bulls in 1987) gave James his props but proceeded to chastise the 22-time NBA All-Star.
"I love LeBron. I really do. I think he's one of the greatest ever… But, at the same time, I can still be critical of him on some things. One in particular: I thought LeBron should have averaged a triple-double way before Russell Westbrook. That's my personal opinion."
Polynice, who transitioned to coaching after playing 15 seasons in the NBA, went on to make an explosive claim about LBJ's career.

It's finally here. Time to bring the early looks to the table. This is Week 1 for everyone, which means that the players' prices were established in July; take advantage of that. We know (for the most part) who will be the value picks and who is undervalued; take advantage of that.

CBS Sports ******* yst Garrett Podell put together his bold predictions for Week 1 of the 2026 season, one of which centers around the Jacksonville Jaguars' run defense -- and not in a positive way.
Podell made four bold Week 1 predictions, one of which is that Cleveland Browns' running back Quinshon Judkins rushes for over 75 yards against the Jaguars' defense.
"Cleveland Browns running back Quinshon Judkins ran for 827 yards as a rookie in 2025 despite the corpse of Joe Flacco, third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel and fifth-round rookie Shedeur Sanders all starting at quarterback last season," wrote Podell. "He's used to facing loaded boxes and opponents going all out to take away his production."
Of course, what makes this prediction bold is that the Jaguars boasted the top run defense unit in football last season.
A second offseason in Anthony Campanile's scheme, along with no significant losses this offseason, a few new rookie additions, and second-year players BJ Green and Danny Striggow making potential jumps, are all reasons to believe that this unit can once again be quite good.

When you're overmatched as the Carolina Panthers may be on Sunday against the Chicago Bears—sometimes, you have to pick your battles. Stopping everything that head coach and play-caller Ben Johnson wants to do offensively simply isn't realistic given the schematic and talent mismatch on that side of the ball.
However, if the Panthers are going to defy the odds and their sorry Week 1 history to pull off a win, they have to find a way to make Chicago's offense one-dimensional. And the quickest way to do that is by shutting down the Bears' ground game, which is led by running back D'Andre Swift.
Last season, Swift led the Bears with 1,087 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Backup Kyle Monangai ranked second with 783 rushing yards to go with five scores on the ground. As a team, Chicago ranked third in the NFL with 144.5 rushing yards per game.
Containing that potent rushing attack will be easier said than done, but it's critical that the Panthers find a way to do so. While defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero will direct the symphony from the sideline, it'll be Pro Bowl inside linebacker Devin Lloyd—who was signed to a three-year, $42 million pact this offseason—who shoulders most of the responsibilities on the field.
Lloyd will likely be the first defender to meet Swift or Monangai once they break past the line of scrimmage, and how well he tackles will play a big role in deciding who wins those matchups.

The opening round at the Irish Open delivered a brutal test of patience and precision. Trump International Golf Links & Hotel, Ireland, saw play slowed significantly across the field as strong winds dominated the conditions. Defending champion Rory McIlroy managed to stay in the hunt, carding a 1-under 69 despite a costly double bogey on the 13th hole. While he sits four shots behind the leader, his position remains viable heading into the second day. The defending champion knows the margin for error is slim when the elements turn hostile. He remains tied for 17th place, a spot that offers hope but demands immediate improvement to challenge for the **** le.
According to GolfMagic, Joaquin Niemann seized the early lead with a spectacular 5-under 65. The LIV Golf standout made his move with four consecutive birdies from the 14th to the 17th holes. His drive on the 14th landed a mere three feet from the cup, creating a simple birdie opportunity that propelled his charge. Niemann's sole mistake was a bogey on the 12th following a three-putt. Rory McIlroy's round told a different story of resilience. His tee shot at the 13th rolled into a bunker, hit the lip, and came back into the sand. Pakistan great Wasim Akram has expressed frustration over the country's continued struggles in Test cricket, arguing that the lack of quality batting talent emerging through the system has become a major concern.

Speaking to the media in Lahore on Friday, the former fast bowler said Pakistan's home-and-away Test series defeat to Bangladesh should have prompted the authorities to take immediate corrective measures. Instead, he felt little changed after what should have been a warning sign.

Akram pointed towards the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which has been running for a decade, and questioned whether the tournament had produced any significant batting talent for the national team.

"It has been 10 years since the PSL started, but has a single batter been produced by the PSL? Yes we have produced a few bowlers but tell me have we produced any noteworthy batting talent," he questioned.
Akram also highlighted the emergence of a 15-year-old batting talent in neighbouring India, an apparent reference to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, as an example of the kind of player Pakistan needs to produce.

"I think when we produce a batting talent like the 14-year old then we will see improvement coming through," Akram said.

While he felt Pakistan remained competitive in white-ball cricket, the former pacer was far less optimistic about the team's position in the longer format, describing the state of Test cricket as "bad".

Akram also played down the importance of who takes charge as Pakistan's coach, saying that whether the PCB appoints him or Gary Kirsten, the fundamental challenge would remain because the coach would still be working with the same pool of players.

Rather than repeatedly changing personnel, Akram called for the PCB's domestic structure to be given time to produce results. He believes the system should be allowed to operate for three to four years, with patience and long-term planning essential to any improvement.

Akram admitted that he was just as disappointed as any other Pakistani by the team's recent performances.

"Club cricket needs to be revived if we want improvement in red ball cricket. The PCB should spend 100 million rupees each in Karachi and Lahore, as talent comes from club cricket."

He also called for greater consistency in the national side, pointing out that Pakistan have continued to rotate players without addressing the underlying problems.

He said there should be consistency in the team, but the players remain the same -- they just keep coming and going.
Pakistan's ongoing Test series in England also came under scrutiny, with Akram criticising the team's approach against the home bowlers.

"In England in the ongoing series they didn't move their front foot forward, playing bowlers like Ollie Robinson while standing rooted in the crease. You need to play with courage, but for that, talent is essential."

Sometimes, the greatest battle is within—and that's definitely the case with Carolina's starting quarterback.
Young has struggled in all three of his Week 1 games in his NFL career. In his rookie year, he managed just 146 passing yards and threw two interceptions in a loss to Atlanta. In 2024, he bombed against New Orleans—throwing for 161 yards and two more picks with no touchdowns. Last season, Young wasn't much better against Jacksonville—passing for 154 yards, one score and two picks in a 26-10 defeat.
Young has to shake off whatever it is that has him stumbling out of the gate, and deliver a strong performance if the Panthers are going to have any chance this week.

India's next Test **** ignment will take them to New Zealand for a two-match series beginning November 19, and former Kiwi fast bowler Trent Boult believes KL Rahul will be one of the Indian batters worth watching closely.

The two Tests will form part of India's marathon New Zealand tour, which begins on October 22 and features 12 matches across the three formats. With India needing a strong result to remain in contention for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, the spotlight is expected to fall on several key players, including captain Shubman Gill and pace spearhead Jasprit **** rah.

Boult, however, has picked Rahul and his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal as the two Indian batters he is particularly looking forward to seeing in action.

"I'm always a big fan of KL Rahul and his style of batsmanship. So he's a big player at the top of the order for the Indian side. And yeah, I believe Jaiswal is there as well. Two classy batters to see bat. So yeah, be interesting to see," Boult said in an interview to PTI.
The timing of the series could make conditions particularly interesting. Unlike India's previous Test tours of New Zealand, which have often taken place in the February-March window, this series will be played in late October and November.

Boult feels the timing could bring colder weather into play, while he is hoping the New Zealand pitches retain some grass and offer **** istance to the home attack.

"It's always an exciting chance when the Indian team comes down to play Test cricket in New Zealand," Boult said.

"The only thing I can see happening is it's going to be late October. I believe, just coming out of winter. So it's going to be quite cold. Hopefully, there's a bit of greenness in the wickets for some of our bowlers. It's going to be a good series, I'm sure," the star former Kiwi pacer added.
Boult also backed the current New Zealand bowling unit to make an impact against India, pointing to the variety available to the team.

Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry, Nathan Smith and Will O'Rourke bring different qualities to the attack, and Boult believes that gives New Zealand enough options to develop its own identity.

"I think the bowling is very well balanced. It's got bases covered in terms of a good pace, obviously, with Will O'Rourke. Obviously, a bit of swing and a bit of bounce from Kyle Jamieson and Matt Henry with his accuracy.

"So yeah, I think the way me, Tim (Southee) and Wags (Neil Wagner) did it over the years was a unique way in itself. But there's other strengths and other game plans that our younger bowlers can follow," Boult further said.

If you think Army is going to run over, around and through the South Florida defense the way the Black Knights did against Bryant in week one, think again.
There were a lot of positives to draw from as Army rolled up a school-record 648 yards of total offense and 569 rushing yards on the way to a 59-3 victory over Bryant. With a rout in progress, Army went deep into its bench and utilized 16 different ball carries, including three quarterbacks.
South Florida is not Bryant. The Bulls feature a defensive front that averages 6-foot-3, 293 pounds per man (Major Dillard is 330 pounds at nose, Asani Redwood is 300 at tackle and Michael Williams is 250 at end), compared to the Bryant squad that averaged 30 pounds less. Jump to the linebackers, and USF features a group that averages 6-3, 233 pounds, more than a dozen pounds heavier than the similar Bryant unit. You can also expect South Florida's defenders will be quicker to close off the edges, perhaps cutting off Army's success on the perimeter.
The Bulls held Florida International to 80 yards on 25 carries in a 19-9 win on the evening of Sept 5. FIU did roll up 301 yards of passing, on 62% of completed throws, but run-dominant Army has not been a passing threat for many years.
Based off last week's starting lineup (the Bulls do not release depth charts to the media), the South Florida defense fields nine starters who transferred in from other Division I schools. Linebackers C.J. Hicks (Ohio State), Grayson Howard (South Carolina and Florida) and Sam Robinson (Rutgers) played Power 4 ball, as did Redwood (West Virginia) up front. Corner Teddy Foster (Florida) and 'Star' Amanio Fortenberry (Kansas State) help anchor the secondary.

Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels had a very successful 2024 season that ended in disappointment in Philadelphia.
The Commanders had won two road playoff games, and winning the third consecutive road playoff game was out of the question that day in the NFC Championship Game as the Eagles routed the Commanders 55-23. So one reporter asked Commanders head coach Dan Quinn on Friday about Daniels' hunger to win and what Quinn has observed.
Injured in 2025, Daniels was not able to take the field against the Eagles in either game in 2025. So this is Daniels' first return facing the Eagles since that 2024 NFC ******* le game. "I think it honestly started like towards the end of the season last year," replied Quinn. "That is where it began. But from that point, (there are) new systems and changes which are hard to go through. He's consistently working at it and going after it; it demonstrates readiness. He was more accurate than he's ever been."
Yes, both Quinn and offensive coordinator David Blough have referenced this offseason how Daniels has worked hard to learn and master the new offense. Both have also referred to Daniels' accuracy throughout training camp.
"So, those are the things that I saw. He's always just a confident player, and he's clutch. So, like those things, I wouldn't say they come natural to him, but they are at the forefront. But all the unseen work that went into it- he's gotten stronger, he's gotten bigger." It's no secret the Commanders are concerned with Daniels being injured so often in 2025. They are encouraged that he worked this offseason to get stronger.

Well STS readers, I come to you this week recovering from an extremely sobering experience last Saturday night. I predicted a fight even in a loss, and if it even qualified as a fight, it resembled Drago vs. Apollo in Rocky IV. Probably an adequate ******* ogy because Apollo USED to be great, but he was no match for the modernized superweapon Drago. Did the Soviets cheat to develop him? Absolutely, but at that point they were doing whatever it took to be superior no matter the morality of it. Clemson fans like me could be heard yelling "throw in the ******* towel!" by maybe the fourth possession of the game. It was that obvious that Clemson was completely and totally outmatched at the lines of scrimmage and the surrounding skill had zero chance because of it on either side of the ball.
How did it come to this? I posted this in a comment on the game review thread and will paste it here as it summarizes what I have painfully allowed myself to realize: "I hate it for Dabo and others who really want to do this the way it is supposed to be done, which is to develop men and grow boys to men and that takes time more often than not. That is what the transfer portal and NIL and lack of tampering control has created and as much as Dabo has tried to evolve I just don't see how he could ever get to what actually has to be done now if you want to be elite. I bet if you begin to track LSU, Ohio State, Texas, etc, going forward, you will see that maybe 50% of their rosters will start and finish with them and the other half will be brought in from elsewhere at some stage of their five-year playing window. Dabo swallows hard just to have the maybe 15% we are up to now that would check that box. Otherwise, we are back to 1995 where we might be able to beat ok teams and bad teams but are done beating anyone that is legit top 15 in stature."
I am a Clemson Tiger for life and lived through the lean years between Ford and Dabo. I'll still tune in and attend games when I can, but I know now that something has to give if Clemson is ever going to hope to compete at the highest level and it may get worse before it can get better. I'm still looking for pathways to wins, as many wins as this team can find a way to manage. I agree they are likely better than that product we saw in Baton Rouge, but that is not saying a lot either considering how FCS level the Tigers looked in that game.

Metcalf sits 34th among wide receivers in PFN's Week 1 rankings, which is what happens after the worst season of your career. The Falcons allowed seven receivers to clear 20 PPR points last season, so the setup is there, and so is the Michael Pittman theory. I'm going to be a week or two late to this party rather than early.
Let's call a spade a spade: Metcalf is coming off of the worst season of his career. His 850 yards were a new low-water mark and even that was inflated by two games where he had superhero singular plays that lifted his stat line (274 yards in games against the Ravens and Vikings, 576 in his other 13, good for just 44.3 yards per contest).
Aaron Rodgers is back at the helm and the team added Michael Pittman this offseason, a receiver who has effectively made a career off of what the Steelers asked of Metcalf in his first season with the franchise: short targets and hope.

Metcalf's 11.3 aDOT was, you guessed it, the lowest of his career, and featured just 24.2% of his looks coming deep downfield (15 or more yards), a rate that stood at 43.5% in 2024 with Seattle.

The annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series has arrived. And it's set to be played under the lights.
For the first time since 2016, Iowa hosts Iowa State at night at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes won that meeting going away, 42-3. Iowa hopes it can conjure up a similar result on Saturday night.
Iowa (1-0) will need to reverse the recent series history against Iowa State (1-0), though. The Cyclones have won each of the last two meetings and three of the past four.

This is a hard one because while Aston Villa still haven't won or scored in the Premier League, they got a good win over Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Nicolas Jackson got off the mark in that game and, although his finishing can be erratic, he's the kind of player who will mature and get better every season. I think he will do well for them.
Forest are also yet to win. I know there was controversy over Neco Williams' disallowed goal in their draw against Tottenham last time out but I do think they got the decision right in the end.
This is going to be close and I am tempted to go for another Forest draw, but Villa are obviously going to score in the Premier League at some point so I'll be brave and say they will edge it.

I have happy memories of this fixture because one of my three goals for Chelsea came against Hull City in the FA Cup.
Hull haven't conceded yet and they are the team I have been most wrong about so far this season.
With every passing week, they are putting more egg on my face but it can't keep happening, can it?
It probably can, but I am still going for Chelsea to win this. The Tigers have defended brilliantly so far, but they are not going to keep out Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro.
Hull will defend ferociously but, as Chelsea showed in the Carabao Cup against Leeds on Wednesday, they have enough quality to play through teams who sit in; and, if they score first, then Hull will have to open up - that's my theory anyway.

Lanier senior running back Nicholas Torres rushedfor 131 yards and a touchdown in the first half as the Voks defeated Jefferson 31-14 on Friday at the San Antonio ISD Athletic Complex in the two teams' District 14-5A-II opener.
"What I saw on the field was what we went over at practice," Torres said. "We just kept trying to pound the rock and run up the score."
Torres' efforts and a 1-yard rushing touchdown early in the second half from sophomore QB Erick Esparza propelled the Voks to a 17-6 advantage with just under two minutes to play in the third quarter.
After an early score, not much was going for Jefferson on offense, but the Mustangs kept plugging away on the ground, eventually punching in a 6-yard rushing touchdown from senior running back Michael Bejar.
The Mustangs lined up to attempt a 2-point conversion that would cut the deficit down to three, but Mother Nature had other plans as players and coaches were forced off the field due to a lightning delay.

In a long interview with France Football just a few weeks before the Ballon d'Or, Kylian Mbappé opened up about the players who will shape football in the years to come.
Mbappé then revealed a short list and was full of praise for a certain Lamine Yamal.
"To determine the ten to fifteen best players in the world, I think everyone agrees. Among the youngsters? Lamine Yamal. He has everything [...] I really like Estevao, he has a certain creativity. Here, Arda Güler can go very far. Endrick has potential, he's a goalscorer. Warren (Zaïre-Emery), Désiré (Doué), they're going to have great careers, that's for sure," he explained.

After Bayern Munich's 5-0 win against Bodo/Glimt, goal scorer Harry Kane was asked about his ongoing contract negotiations with the club. Though he could not offer any details of the contract or when he expects it to be done, he spoke with a calm confidence that everything would get done in due time.
"We had conversations, a couple of weeks ago and some more this week. As I said before, a contract doesn't happen overnight — it takes time to digest and see how we can make it best case possible for everyone involved. I don't expect it to be done in the next week or two, but hopefully in the next one or two months we should be where we want to be. Right now I'm at a happy place. All I want to do and what the club wants me to do is to focus on the pitch, score the goals and help the team. I'm calm.. It's hard to talk to you guys about it because it's confidential stuff. I'm sure in due time you'll know about the details and get the answers you're looking for. All I can say now is that the conversations are going well. Kane's contract expires at the end of this season, but both sides seem to be confident that a deal will get done to keep the England captain in Bavaria. His comments on Thursday are consistent with updates from Bayern front office officials over the past months.

After a promising start with two wins, RB Leipzig have suffered back-to-back defeats to Werder Bremen and Como, sparking significant criticism in the press and on social media.
RB Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer has now shared his thoughts on the situation, acknowledging that the team's recent performances have fallen well below expectations.
"We have, of course, seen what has been said about the club in the press and on social media over the past few days. We are highly ambitious, but we are also critical of ourselves. The last two results have not been good enough. We know that, and we are not going to sugar-coat it. We are addressing the situation very clearly internally," Schäfer said in a statement released by RB Leipzig on Friday night.
Despite the recent setbacks, Schäfer was keen to underline the club's full support for new head coach Martin Demichelis and his squad, stressing that, given the significant changes made at the club over the summer, it's only natural that the team will need time to fully gel.
"At the same time, we are staying calm and focused, and we are united as a club. That applies to everyone who works here, the players and the entire coaching staff. They all have our full support and trust," he said.
