CBS might not be rooting for a reunion with Tony Romo, but Stephen A. Smith hopes the former NFL quarterback gets back to the network.
In the wake of being arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated last week in Milwaukee, CBS placed Romo on leave "until further notice." With no timetable for his return, Romo has already been replaced by J.J Watt in their lead NFL booth alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson.
The decision to quickly replace Romo with a budding star in the booth like Watt has many wondering whether CBS is ready to move on from their lead **** yst of the last nine seasons. Stephen A. Smith, however, believes we haven't seen the last of Romo.
"I think so," Smith said on his SiriusXM Radio show after a caller asked whether we'll see Romo back on-air this season. "God bless him. It was a mistake to put himself in that position. But it happens from time to time. Thank God **** ody was hurt or anything like that. Can't get behind the wheel of a car inebriated in any way. Can't even give that impression. That's a very, very serious transgression, and we can't minimize that.
"But in the same breath, he's been a good dude, he's always been a good dude, and **** ody's perfect. People make mistakes. And hopefully he can move on from here and live his best life and continue to do the great work he's been doing for CBS."

As Jon Gruden continues trying to find his path back to the NFL, his latest step is a one-game cameo as a play-by-play voice for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Earlier this summer, Gruden revealed he has play-by-play ambitions after already working as a lead NFL ****** yst for nine years on Monday Night Football. Gruden cited Frank Gifford as an example of a broadcaster who transitioned from ****** yst to play-by-play announcer, and the former NFL head coach thinks he might be able to do the same.
After learning of Gruden's aspirations, the Tampa Bay Bucs stepped up and granted his wish. This summer, Gruden will join Ronde Barber in the broadcast booth for the team's Week 2 preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. And while attending Bucs' training camp Thursday morning, Gruden met with reporters about his looming broadcast opportunity.
"I was fired up," Gruden said of the moment he found out he was getting the opportunity to get back to the booth. "I had a lot of fun doing it for nine years. I was very fortunate on Monday Night Football, especially the years with Tirico. We had a lot of fun. We took every game like it was a Super Bowl. Took it very seriously, had a lot of fun. So I enjoy the profession. And at this point in my life, I still study football all the time. I'm still a big fan of the Bucs. I live right down the street. I'm really excited about it."
If he still studies football all the time and treats every ESPN broadcast like the Super Bowl, surely Gruden and Barber are working hard to prepare for their preseason Week 2 opportunity.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Beloved longtime San Francisco Giants broadcaster and former major league pitcher Mike Krukow is stepping away from the booth after this season following a nearly four-decade run.
The 74-year-old Krukow made the announcement Thursday that this year would be his last, expressing gratitude from him and wife, Jennifer.
"I just want to let everyone know that I will be retiring at the end of the season. I want to take this time to thank you for your incredible support," Krukow said through the Giants. "Jennifer and I have been so blessed to be able to stay in the game for as long as we have and it's really made it impossible to feel sorry for myself that my career is coming to an end."
Krukow said he expects an emotional farewell over the final stretch of the season, saying, "Jennifer and I are wondering if it is even possible to let everyone know how deeply we love and respect our Giants family."
He has shown up with a smile, sense of humor and energetic spirit day after day, game after game, despite the physical challenges of the rare degenerative muscle disease that has slowed him for much of the past two decades and scaled back his travel to road games.

The 2026 Indoor Football League season is hurdling toward its finish. With just a few games left before a champion is crowned, the league decided to roll out its annual awards.
It should come as little surprise that Tulsa Drillers quarterback TJ Edwards took home first-team All-IFL honors. Edwards racked up 60 touchdown passes and 20 rushing touchdowns while leading his team to a 12-5 record.
Pooka Williams, meanwhile, earned two spots on the first team — as a running back and a kick returner. Williams finished second in the league with 665 rushing yards and added 22 rushing touchdowns for the Orlando Pirates. He also scored four touchdowns on kickoffs, making him the most dangerous returner in the league.

After a long, long offseason, Maryland football is set to start its 2026 season on September 5.

The Boston Red Sox have had one of the most remarkable midseason turnarounds in recent memory. After looking like one of teh worst teams in the MLB through the first part of the season, Boston has since gone 24-3 in its last 27 games heading into Wednesday night's matchup with teh Chicago White Sox.
As great as Boston is playing, fans watching from home were treated to another reason to celebrate as it was NESN's third annual Women's Celebration Night.
Play-by-play voice Emma Tiedemann was joined in the booth by color ******* yst Alanna Rizzo, with Kasey Hudson reporting from the field. Nicole Menner hosted studio coverage, with Sophia Jurksztowicz and Jen McCaffrey also contributing.
Per Sportsvideo.org, Wednesday night's broadcast "is part of NESN's broader Women of NESN initiative, which focuses on creating access across the industry, from on-air and production positions to roles on the business side of the network."

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden will attend Thursday morning's training camp practice as he prepares for a return to the broadcast booth.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported Gruden's expected appearance at practice. The visit comes ahead of his ***** ignment as the play-by-play announcer for Tampa Bay's second preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Aug. 22 at Raymond James Stadium.
Gruden will work alongside Buccaneers legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back Ronde Barber on the WFLA-TV broadcast. WFLA is Tampa's NBC affiliate. The pairing gives the local production two prominent members of the franchise's Super Bowl ***** VII championship team.
Gruden coached the Buccaneers from 2002 through 2008, compiling a 57-55 regular-season record and leading the organization to its first Super Bowl championship during his first year in Tampa. Barber spent his entire 16-year playing career with the Buccaneers and delivered one of the defining moments of that ***** le run with his interception return for a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game.
The preseason ***** ignment will mark Gruden's first time calling an NFL game since leaving ESPN's "Monday Night Football" booth following the 2017 season. He returned to coaching with the Raiders in 2018.

Samantha Morton just revealed why Hollywood stopped calling after The Odyssey. The actress opened up about industry challenges and a painful past firing in a candid new interview.
Samantha Morton recently revealed she hasn't worked for a year since filming Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Morton played Circe, a witch and goddess on the island of Aeaea, in the epic film. She spoke about her career challenges on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
"I haven't worked for a year since making The Odyssey," Morton said on the podcast. She noted that she has "really good agents and a manager." However, she acknowledged the shifting landscape of the entertainment industry. "But at the end of the day, I'm 49. I do believe I'm a good actor, [but] there are other good actors out there," she continued. She added, "The politics of the industry has changed massively."
Morton also discussed being replaced in Spike Jonze's 2013 film Her. She originally read lines on set opposite Joaquin Phoenix for the voice **** istant character Samantha. Scarlett Johansson's voice ultimately replaced Morton's performance in post-production.
"I think my version of Samantha was very… she's English," Morton explained. She praised her replacement, saying, "Scarlett Johansson has a beautiful voice. She's incredibly evocative." The Arizona Cardinals have found their new radio voice for games. The team announced that J.P Shadrick will replace Dave Pasch, who stepped down after 25 years as the play-by-play voice, taking an exclusive role at ESPN.
He has called radio play-by-play for the NFL on Westwood One Sports since 2022, announcing NFL London games, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and key late-season matchups. He has also served as a national play-by-play voice on college football for Touchdown Radio Network since 2017, with studio host experience since 2016.
He spent the last 14 years as the senior reporter for the Jacksonville Jaguars and was the host for the head coaches' weekly radio show for the last six.
He joins **** yst A.Q. Shipley in the radio booth. Shipley became the radio **** yst last year after longtime **** yst Ron Wolfley stepped down.
Shadrick will not call the Cardinals' preseason opener on Thursday in the Hall of Fame Game against the Carolina Panthers. The game will be nationally televised on NBC, and Paul Calvisi will handle radio play-by-play with Shipley.

ESPN has unveiled its college football commentator lineup for the 2026 season, with Tom Hart and Roy Philpott moving into expanded roles following the departures of longtime play-by-play announcers Mark Jones and Dave Flemming.
At the top for ESPN, not much has changed. Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe will return as ESPN's lead college football crew. Fowler and Herbstreit are entering their 13th year in that role for ESPN.
To pair with Fowler and Herbstreit, ESPN has hired a new lead rules ****** yst, with 22-year official Steve Shaw joining the booth. Previously, he served as the NCAA's secretary-rules editor for football and national coordinator of officials. Overall, ESPN will have four rules ****** ysts on the roster this year, with Shaw joining Matt Austin, Bill LeMonnier and Jerry McGinn.
The biggest changes involve the departures of Mark Jones and Dave Flemming.
Jones, who has long been paired with Roddy Jones, has been replaced by Tom Hart. Hart previously called SEC Network's SEC Saturday Night primetime games for the past 10 seasons. Quint Kessenich will join Hart and Jones as the sideline reporter.

Madison Fitzpatrick will serve as the ACC Network's primetime college football sideline reporter this season, rounding out the booth alongside play-by-play voice Wes Durham and ***** yst Max Browne, Awful Announcing has learned.
Front Office Sports first reported the ACC Network lead broadcast pairing back in June, confirming Durham and Browne atop the primetime booth, Durham's fourth different primetime ***** yst in as many seasons after cycling through Roddy Jones and Eric Wood at the network's 2019 launch, then Tim Hasselbeck and Taylor Tannebaum, then Tom Luginbill and Dana Boyle in 2024, then former Boston College coach Steve Addazio last season. Browne, meanwhile, moves up from ESPN's secondary ACC Network booth, where he called games alongside Chris Cotter and Kendra Douglas in 2025.
Fitzpatrick wasn't part of that announcement at the time because her contract hadn't been finalized yet.
The sideline opening exists in part because of a broader shuffle elsewhere in ESPN's college football booths. Dana Boyle, who had worked ACC Network primetime games alongside Durham in 2024, moved into a new role calling ESPN's Friday night package alongside play-by-play voice Mike Monaco and ***** yst Jordan Rodgers, part of the same round of moves that also sent Rodgers off SEC Network's longtime top booth and into an expanded role with ESPN and ABC.
Fitzpatrick joined ESPN in 2023 as a volleyball ***** yst and sideline reporter after a standout career at Florida State, where she served as a captain of the Seminoles' beach volleyball team. She previously worked as a sports anchor at Fox16 in Little Rock, AR, before joining the network.

Well, let's start with the good feelings. There was a sentimental feeling percolating around the Yard well before tonight's game, with a team Hall of Fame induction ceremony that saw former O's slugger Chris Davis, 1983 World Series Champion Storm Davis, and late scout Jim Russo all get their green jackets. Both Storm and Chris were in attendance, along with lots of their former teammates, including, to give short pre-game remarks and stop by the MASN booth to chat about their favorite memories.
It was cool to learn that Storm Davis actually served as a mentor to a young Ben McDonald, then a rookie pitcher, now a MASN ****** yst, but I was especially sentimental about Davis's reminiscences, which covered the especially sweet 2012-16 years, when the O's led the AL in wins. Tony Romo, the former NFL quarterback and top CBS television ******* yst, has reportedly been placed "on leave" by CBS following his OWI arrest after a golf tournament in Milwaukee.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the news July 31, eight days after Romo was pulled over and taken into custody by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office on suspicion of operating his vehicle while intoxicated. Full videos of the arrest and subsequent field-sobriety tests have been released.
Schefter also wrote that, for now, another Wisconsin high school alumnus will take Romo's place in the lead booth – Pewaukee High School and University of Wisconsin legend J.J. Watt.
Romo received a citation for refusal to take a test for intoxication and failing the field sobriety test. In Wisconsin, a first-offense OWI is a traffic violation and typically carries a fine.
Romo was pulled over on Interstate 43 just south of the Marquette Interchange after participating in the Wisconsin Amateur golf tournament in West Bend during the weekend.

Giuliana Rancic is not holding back as she says all the details on her former relationship with ex Jerry O'Connell after he recently admitted to being a "pretty terrible boyfriend."

Previous leadership infamously met with him for an intervention of sorts in 2022, shortly after he signed a whopping 10-year, $180 million contract with the network.
In the years since, he called another Super Bowl — in a mostly strong performance that was partly overshadowed when he stepped on partner Jim Nantz's call of the game-winning touchdown — but has continually made high-profile mistakes and drawn the ire of NFL diehards.
Still, in the aftermath of Romo's OWI (operating while intoxicated) arrest in Wisconsin last week, CBS management is seemingly standing behind him. A new report from the Daily Mail contains several quotes from executives at the company who backed Romo, one of whom told the British outlet that Romo "isn't going anywhere."
Some in the industry have speculated that the arrest could be an ideal excuse for CBS to part ways with Romo, who had seemingly been on thin ice at the network in the past. And with the caveat that this report — and other follow-ups — are coming mostly from tabloids, Romo appears to be safe.

The 28-year-old left-hander — a Tifton, Georgia, native and Georgia Tech product who made his MLB debut with the Brewers back in 2025 — had only been summoned from the minors about two days prior. A squirrel caused quite a bit of chaos on Monday at Comerica Park.
A black squirrel managed to break onto the field during the Detroit Tigers' 8-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, and it led the grounds crew on a chase in the outfield. Orioles outfielder Leody Taveras even had to get in on the action, though he couldn't quite catch the elusive animal with his glove.
Perhaps the best part of the loose squirrel was Jason Benetti's call of the scene from the booth.
"No, I won't be hemmed in! I have freedom on my mind!" Benetti yelled.
Eventually, the crew managed to track the squirrel down and got it out of the stadium so the game could continue.

Now finally, there's one that I have been near and dear for as long as I can remember, and that's American Express. Now, this only has 10% of purchase volume with fewer cards in circulation, but their cardholders tend to spend a lot more money. Plus, they charge fees for their best cards, basically making you pay for access to their generous rewards programs. It's a fantastic business model. But remember, they do have credit risk.
Under Cramer's framework, American Express occupies a specialized niche compared to rival payment networks Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) and Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA). While Visa controls 60% of cardholders and Mastercard holds 25% to 30%, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) commands roughly 10% of purchase volume. However, unlike Visa and Mastercard, which operate strictly as neutral tollbooths with zero balance-sheet risk, American Express operates as a direct card issuer. That closed-loop structure allows the company to capture premium annual membership fees and higher per-cardholder spending, though it requires absorbing credit default risk when consumers fall behind on payments.
On the technical side, Cramer highlighted that Lang noted that American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) has shown exceptional relative strength during recent broader market chop. After breaking out above its 200-day moving average in early June, the stock successfully retested that key support level on multiple occasions before surging higher on heavy volume. With the MACD indicator continuing to flash a buy signal, Lang sees a clear path toward $350, with a secondary upside target at its February peak of $370. It is the exact price level where sellers previously emerged. Furthermore, heading into Friday's quarterly report, Cramer shared Lang's bullish fundamental outlook on travel demand while offering his own tactical trading playbook for retail investors:
Now, I've gotta tell you, in his view, American Express is the best in class. Given that we've seen big numbers in travel here, Lang expects that Amex will shoot the lights out when it reports on Friday… I agree with him that this company's best of breed, but I also want to point out that American Express' stock, no matter what they seem to report, tends to sell off in response to earnings on that Friday even when the numbers are terrific. Then it gradually finds its footing afterwards and mounts strong rallies in between quarters, which is why I always say, you know, around like 10:30, 11, you might want to buy this one. I'm not kidding. It's been a good prediction so far.

Amber Rose is suing an exclusive members-only social club in Los Angeles, alleging she was hospitalized after a holiday ornament fell on her head.
Rose, 42, filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, July 21, in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County. In the filing obtained by PEOPLE, the model alleged that she was spending New Year's Eve 2024 at Gravitas in Beverly Hills and was seated in a booth underneath holiday ornaments of "solid, oversized decorative spheres," including one that was suspended above her head.

"I definitely think you’ll see that coming," Payton said. "I think it’s healthy, and it’s certainly comforting for the fan when you can see how they arrive at decisions. And I think it’s fair, especially to the officials and the people doing the review, to see what we arrived at."
