Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase has established himself among the NFL's elite at his position, but three former stars stand above the rest when it comes to his personal favorites.
Asked to name his top three receivers of all-time, Chase went with Randy Moss, Julio Jones and Antonio Brown.
The inclusion of Brown was the most intriguing selection, and Chase acknowledged that some might question the choice.
"And I know people might be like AB?! But if you look at his stats at the top of his game, he was far and above everybody with yards and touchdowns. It was crazy," Chase wrote to USA Today Sports in conjunction with the release of his Fabletics collection.

Here is my first big board, ranking players Nos. 1-31 and a list of 10 to watch who could break into the mix later this season. Why 31 instead of 30? You'll see why I gave both of those ranked players, each quarterbacks, some shine.
Manning is an excellent athlete with size. He plays with a proper timing on plays when working from the pocket, but he can also throw consistently on the move and has the toughness and core strength to get any throw off no matter his platform or how muddy the pocket is or how he is getting hit. He has a good arm that he unlocks because of his creativity, ability to anticipate and willingness to push the football down the field. Manning's quick throwing motion unlocks underneath throws and he already has advanced feel in the pocket. He constantly keeps his eyes downfield, which allows him to get the ball off and avoid sacks, turning negative plays to positive, or even explosive ones.
His progression as a player was overlooked last year after an early-season loss to Ohio State and Texas having to gut out several wins, but his play, along with his tools, indicated a future No. 1 draft pick despite what looked like lackluster performances. There's a lot of hype, but he looks like he's worth it.
A force of nature at receiver, Smith has been a standout player and absurdly productive at every level of his career. He is strong, explosive, and has an excellent build that allows him to bounce off tackles and constantly eat up yards after the catch. His power as a player makes him dangerous on in-breakers that allow him to build up speed and get downhill in a hurry, and his speed and burst out of breaks make him dangerous. Even without pristine route refinement, Smith is still dominant. It's hard to compare any athlete to Julio Jones, and welp, here we are with Smith. At worst you're looking at a Josh Gordon-like player.

TORONTO (AP) — Alejandro Kirk drove in the tiebreaking run with a two-out single in the sixth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners 4-3 on Saturday.
José Soriano (11-7) struck out six in seven innings to win for the second time in three starts. Soriano allowed three runs and three hits.
Tyler Rogers struck out two in the eighth but left after walking Julio Rodríguez. Josh Naylor singled off Mason Fluharty to advance Rodríguez to third, but Fluharty struck out Cal Raleigh to preserve the lead.
Louis Varland finished for his 31st save in 32 opportunities.
Seattle lost its third straight and dropped to 27-41 on the road.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) — An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer charged with shooting a man and lying about it during the immigration crackdown in Minneapolis was released from a Texas jail Thursday, after a judge refused to order his return to Minnesota.
Christian Castro was released at the break of dawn from a detention center in Brownsville. He motioned his hand toward a few camera operators and a reporter crowding around him and quickly got into an SUV that drove off.
A day earlier, U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. wrote in an order that said he couldn't prevent a county sheriff from releasing Castro or order Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to sign his extradition warrant.
Castro is charged in Minnesota with ***** ault and falsely reporting a crime in the Jan. 14 shooting of 24-year-old Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis.
Castro is accused of firing a gun through the front door of a Minneapolis home, shooting Sosa-Celis in the leg. Prosecutors say Castro also falsely accused Sosa-Celis and another man of attacking an ICE officer with a broom handle and a snow shovel.

The Mariners look to make it back-to-back wins and back-to-back series wins.
After getting smacked around by the Cubs on Sunday, the Mariners smacked around the Phillies on Monday night. Cal Raleigh hit three home runs, and Julio and Cole Young each got one as well. It was a lot of fun, which was much needed after the last… five months or so. They'll look to keep it going.
George Kirby gets the ball. He's hoping to bounce back from a pair of true clunkers his last turns out. I've written so many times that it's been a weird season for Kirby, but that's a lot different from "it's been a bad season," because even though that's been true at times, he's turned in several excellent performances. The Mariners will certainly hope that's the case today.
Facing him will be Austin Nola's brother, Aaron. "It's been a bad season" does largely apply here, for the second year in a row. He's still a former ace — and not just in the way people say "ace" to mean good — so the Mariners will have to show up, as they say. But for a lineup looking to stay hot, the guy with -32 run value allowed on the fastball (which appears to be pretty close to a record in the Statcast era) figures to be as a good a choice as any for a tee.
And hey, they'll have some extra help today. The Mariners activated J.P. Crawford from the injured list today, who's been out since July 30 with wrist inflammation. He slots back into the lineup at third base, with Brock Rodden sticking at shortstop.

With the Mariners showing no consistent signs in the second half that they'd put their first-half struggles behind them, many fans have put to bed their hopes for the playoffs, especially as the team entered into this particularly grueling stretch of a long road trip combined with playing three very tough NL teams: the Brewers, Cubs, and now the Phillies. Both the Brewers and Cubs series featured brutal, humiliating losses, the Brewers a historic 22-0 drubbing and the Cubs – despite a series win thanks to scraping out wins in the first two games – a game that saw multiple position players have to take the mound in a 19-2 loss. But just as the Mariners bounced back to ******* a game from the Brewers after making team history (derogatory), they again bounced back tonight to surprise the Phillies with a dominant 9-2 win that also made history (complimentary).
It certainly didn't look like things were going to go this way. The game got off to a rough start for Logan Gilbert, who walked Kyle Schwarber on five pitches to lead off the game. He struck out Trea Turner on a spicy 98 mph heater, but then surrendered back-to-back singles to Bryce Harper and Luis Arraez to load the bases with just one out. To Gilbert's credit, though, he didn't wilt under pressure, continuing to execute pitch after pitch. Alex Boehm hit into an RBI groundout on a slow roller that could have been an inning-ending double play, and then Gilbert bullied Bryson Stott on four pitches, striking him out on another spicy heater. In the end, the Phillies only got one run out of all that traffic, and the only real damage was done to Logan's pitch count, at 29.
But Zack Wheeler had his own struggles in the bottom of the first, and would finish the inning with a similarly inflated pitch count (33) but significantly more damage on the scoreboard thanks to two Mariners home runs. MULTI-run home runs, even, which is delightful. Randy Arozarena led off the game with a walk, followed by a sharply-hit single from Dominic Canzone (110 EV), and then Julio Rodríguez – who scuffled in the Cubs series, going 1-for-13 with seven strikeouts – tattooed a splitter that caught too much plate for a home run into the visitor's bullpen.

And then, and this is the part you'll really like, the Mariners didn't stop there. So often we've seen this team score a few early and then take their foot off the gas. Instead, they kept the pressure on Wheeler in the first, with Josh Naylor singling into right field (but then getting thrown out and also bonked on the head trying to stretch it into a double, no Josh!), and then Taylor Ward refusing to chase off the plate for a walk to extend Wheeler's inning. That brought up Cal Raleigh, and Wheeler tried to dispense of him with a fastball up, a pitch Cal has been consistently missing this season. He did not miss this one:

Cal Raleigh is back.
The Seattle Mariners star, after backing up a breakout campaign in 2025 with a very rough go this summer, seems to have found his stride again. Raleigh rattled off three home runs to help lift the Mariners to a 9-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night. It was the first ever three-homer game of his career.
Raleigh opened the night with a two-run shot to right in the first inning at T-Mobile Park, which helped push the Mariners to a 5-1 lead almost instantly. It was the second home run of the inning for Seattle, too, following Julio Rodríguez's three-run shot.
Raleigh then followed suit with a very deep solo homer in the fifth inning, which extended the Mariners' lead.
And finally, Raleigh just barely got his third one over the wall in right field in the seventh inning for good measure. All three of his homers were on nearly identical trajectories.

Zack Wheeler's struggles continued as the Philadelphia Phillies' (73-59) MLB-best nine-game winning streak came to screeching halt with a 9-2 humbling at the hands of the Seattle Mariners (63-69).
Wheeler surrendered eight runs on nine hits, five walks and four home runs, raising his ERA from 2.92 to 3.40. It was the second time in his career he allowed five first inning runs and first as a member of the Phillies. He has an 8.51 ERA in his last six starts.
The Phillies loaded the bases in the first frame of the game and put up the first run on an Alec Bohm sacrifice fly.
The first six batters Wheeler faced reached base and accounted for five runs on a pair of multi-RBI homers by Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh.
Struggling most of the year after a historic campaign last year, Raleigh had his best game of 2026 with his first career three-home run game, two of which came against Wheeler and another by Chase Shugart in his mop up duty.

Now that the dust is starting to settle on Saturday's opening-day defeat to Ipswich down at Portman Road, let's take a look at what went wrong and why there's no need to panic.
We've not lost many games under Régis Le Bris, so the feeling after a defeat isn't something we're used to. This is the first time that we have lost our opening league game under Le Bris, and it's never nice to have the sinking feeling that comes with any defeat, but upon reflection on Saturday's game, there's currently nothing to suggest the need to panic.
We started the opening twenty minutes positively, looking to set our stall out early and take control of the game. We also had a great chance after the first five minutes through some quick interplay and an opening for Brian Brobbey, who really ought to have done better with this chance.
We had the better share of possession as we looked to settle into a rhythm. Unfortunately, we were unable to do so all afternoon and, on twenty-five minutes, a mistake from Luke O'Nien led to Julio Enciso nipping in and robbing us on the halfway line.
Some calamitous defending followed, and we were 1-0 down before we knew it. Brobbey also had a golden chance in the second half which he should've buried.

Ipswich Town have taken the lead over Sunderland in their opening Premier League fixture of the 2026/27 season, and it's all thanks to their new signings from Ligue 1.
The Tractor Boys return to the top flight this term after their relegation in 2025 and will have every hope of surviving the drop this time around.
They've enjoyed a productive summer in terms of incomings, and new boys Julio Enciso and Emersonn combined to give them the lead.
With less than 30 minutes played, Enciso did well to win the ball back high, beat his man and play a lovely pass across the box for his teammate to fire home.
In doing so, Emersonn also became the first Brazilian to score for Ipswich Town.

Struggling offense? What struggling offense?
The Brewers poured it on the Mariners tonight with 22 hits and 22 runs in a game that became a laugher late. But even discounting the nine runs that Milwaukee scored off of a position player, the offense showed real, positive signs against Mariners starter Bryce Miller and a series of ineffective relievers. On the other side of the ball, Kyle Harrison kept the Mariners off the board for five innings and the bullpen kept it going. What resulted was a historic night: the Brewers matched the largest margin of victory in a shutout in the last 126 years.
Brendan Donovan, the first batter against Harrison tonight, smacked a ball to the base of the wall in the right-field gap for a leadoff double. But Harrison locked in, and even with a wild pitch that advanced Donovan to third, Harrison got managed a scoreless inning with a strikeout, a ground ball to second with a drawn-in infield, and another strikeout. (William Contreras, unfortunately, burned a challenge on a 2-0 pitch with two outs that was almost three inches off the plate, putting Milwaukee behind the eight ball early in that respect.)
The Brewers got some good swings on Miller in the bottom of the first. Brice Turang, playing for the first time since last Wednesday, hit a solid line drive to left but it was caught by Randy Arozarena. Jackson Chourio nearly went yard; he hit one 102 mph and 402 feet to center, but Julio Rodríguez caught it on a leap at the wall. It wasn't quite a home run robbery, but it kind of looked like it on TV. Jake Bauers was next, and he ripped a double into the right-field corner, just barely beating out Victor Robles' throw at second. Three pitches later, William Contreras blooped a soft line drive just over shortstop. Bauers looked like dead meat at the plate—Arozarena's throw beat him by a mile—but when Raleigh put a tag on the sliding Bauers, the ball was knocked loose. Bauers hadn't touched the plate and didn't immediately catch that Raleigh didn't have the ball, but he realized in time to just beat the scrambling Mariner catcher back to home plate. Christian Yelich struck out to end the inning but the Brewers had an early lead.

PEREIRA, Colombia, Aug 13 (Reuters) - With his lean, sinewy frame, and standing just over 5 feet (1.6 meters) ‌tall, Julio Cesar Pineda feels he was destined for the ‌work of burrowing into the debris of shattered buildings to find survivors — first when a quake hit his native Colombia in 1999, and again just this week.
His efforts have won him a nickname: "Rescate" ('Rescue').
When Monday's 7.4-magnitude earthquake pummeled western Colombia, the 67-year-old was at home, near the city of ‌Pereira, in the country's ⁠coffee-growing region that was close to the epicenter of the disaster. A wall in his house collapsed, ⁠but Pineda was unhurt and decided to help those who might have been less fortunate.
"All I did was grab some gloves ... grab a helmet, and go save lives," Pineda told Reuters.

The Yankees are struggling offensively. The Yankees do not hit with runners in scoring position. The Yankees have been too homer-reliant. All three of these tenets are true, especially since the injury bug swept through the Bronx and left them more vulnerable than they've been in several years.
All of their wins and losses are decided by one or two runs. They get excellent pitching, but regardless of the quality of the opposing starter, they often fail to dent home plate due to their middling healthy power options and their struggles with RISP. Since June 18th, they have been batting an absolutely dreadful .170 in these situations, by far the worst in baseball. They are also striking out a league-high 29.4 percent in these spots, limiting opportunities for productive outs.
This game was going like all the others. They squandered three massive opportunities with runners in scoring position off Bryan Woo early on before going down in order in three consecutive innings. Now trailing 1-0 after one measly run scored off a sharp Ryan Weathers, they got one more chance in the seventh and didn't let it go to waste. Two unlikely sources provided two great pieces of hitting to small ball their way to a four-run inning and a 4-1 win.
Weathers started this one out looking to continue the good vibes he's had on the ****** p lately and quickly retired the first two he faced before jumping ahead 0-2 on Julio Rodriguez before throwing four straight ****** and walking him. Things might've gotten hairy with a Dominic Canzone grounder that hit the second base bag if not for a stellar barehanded play by George Lombard Jr., who continues to be a savant defensively.

NEW YORK (AP) — Free agent minor league pitchers Luis Gomez and Julio Dilone were suspended Monday following positive tests for the performance-enhancing substance Stanozolol under the minor league drug program.
Gomez was suspended for 80 games and Dilone for 60, the commissioner's office announced. The suspensions will start when they sign with a major league organization.
Dilone signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres in spring training after pitching last year in the independent Atlantic League and was released on Aug. 6. The 26-year-old right-hander went 1-2 with a 5.02 ERA in 11 games this season for two low-level teams, with 20 strikeouts and eight walks in 14 1/3 innings.
Gomez, a 21-year-old right-hander, was 2-2 with an 11.00 ERA in 18 relief appearances for the rookie level Florida Complex League Marlins before his release on July 23. He signed a minor league contract with Miami for a $10,000 bonus in June 2025.
Eleven players have been disciplined this year for a drug violation.

Venezuelan Olympic weightlifting silver medalist Julio Mayora hoisted 151 kilograms (330 pounds) to win two gold medals this weekend at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.
Not so long ago, he was using his superhuman strength to lift up concrete blocks to rescue victims from the double earthquakes that devastated his home country.
Mayora hails from La Guaira, the northern coastal Venezuelan state that was hit hardest by the June 24 double earthquakes, with respective magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale.
The powerful earthquakes killed over 6,000 people and reduced dozens of buildings to rubble -- including people and places known to Mayora.
He dedicated his two gold medals to the victims of the earthquakes.

Texas A&M's deep secondary could prove to be one of the top units in the Southeastern Conference in 2026, with a slew of returning stars and talented transfer portal additions looking to make a splash.
During Tuesday's media availability, head coach Mike Elko said this year's secondary is as deep as it has ever been, after ranking second in the conference with just 2,296 total passing yards allowed last season. Safeties Dalton Brooks and Marcus Ratcliffe return for their senior campaigns, while Dezz Ricks, Julio Humphrey and Tennessee transfer Rickey Gibson III lock down the cornerback position. Colorado transfer safety Tawfiq Byard also joined the Aggies in the offseason, one year removed from not allowing a passing touchdown in over 500 snaps with the Buffaloes.
While the secondary unit performed well in the program's run to their first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff, Texas A&M struggled to create turnovers, tied for 131st in the nation with just two interceptions. The Aggies' defense also ranked 31st with 11 forced fumbles, which has been a point of emphasis this offseason, according to Brooks during this week's player availability.

The Detroit Tigers have released right-handed pitcher Duque Hebbert from the organization during their weekend series against the Athletics.
The Lakeland Flying Tigers announced the transaction Saturday, ending Hebbert's three-year run in Detroit's minor-league system.
Hebbert first captured national attention while pitching for Nicaragua during the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
Then 21 years old, Hebbert struck out Juan Soto, Julio Rodríguez and Rafael Devers in the same inning against the Dominican Republic. All three were established MLB stars, making the performance one of the tournament's biggest surprise moments.
Detroit signed Hebbert to a minor-league contract weeks later, hoping that his WBC breakthrough could lead to something more.

It was about as rough of a first inning as possible for rookie Connor Prielipp. Second baseman Cole Young doubled on Prielipp's first pitch of the game, and then he walked the next two Mariners on nine total pitches to load the bases with no outs. Julio Rodriguez then singled on the first pitch HE saw and it was 1-0 Seattle before Prielipp even worked up a sweat. He walked in one more run a few batters later, but the young lefty struckout the side in the midst of all this chaos to limit the damage.
Seattle got one more in the second inning thanks to a solo homer by Randy Arozarena to make it 3-0, but from there, Prielipp was completely locked in. It took him 55 pitches to get through the first two innings, and then 33 to finish the next 3.1 frames. That's the exact kind of development you want to see from a rookie starting pitcher and why so many people within the Twins are high on his long term outlook. The Mariners did mount another threat in the fifth inning with two men on and one out, but Prielipp successfully worked his way out of that jam and got Josh Naylor to start the sixth for a cherry on top.
On the other half of the game, the Twins had yet another slow start against an opposing starter. If it feels like Minnesota has been playing from behind often you'd be correct. Setting aside the three and four error slop-filled games last week, the Twins have scored just eight total runs in first five innings of games since the All-Star Break. They've taken the first lead in just two of those games as well. It was more of the same against Logan Gilbert and Seattle today.
The Twins had just one hit and baserunner through the first four innings before a Luke Keaschall solo shot got rid of the goose egg on the scoreboard. Trevor Larnach added a bomb of his own in the sixth, and then the Twins played some good small following a Brooks Lee leadoff double and finally worked their way to a 3-3 tie. Minnesota then had a great opportunity to take the lead in the eighth with two runners in scoring position and one out, but Kody Clemens and Royce Lewis struck out to end the threat.
Then, a weird ninth inning happened. With Andrew Morris in to try to send things to extras, Arozarena led things off of with a sharp double and advanced to third on a fly ball. Morris then intentionally walked Julio Rodriguez to put runners on the corners with one out. The Twins brought the infield in for Cal Raleigh, hoping to either get the runner at home or set up a quick double play, and they got exactly what they needed with a hard ground ball hit directly to Royce Lewis at first. Lewis, still fairly new to the position, went to step on first base, but seemed to realize the problem with that mid-play, as you can see below.

In the definition of a back-and-forth battle, the Mariners outslugged the Dodgers with a season-high five home runs in a 7-6 loss for the reigning champs. Neither team seemed capable of holding onto a lead for any meaningful period until the Mariners jumped in front in the eighth thanks to a two-run shot from Dominic Canzone, his second and Seattle's fifth homer of the game.
As different as the seasons of the two starting pitchers in this matchup might be, for one game, they both encountered the same problem, completely allergic to the prospect of a shutdown inning. On four separate occasions, a team took the lead in the first five innings only to see its starter unable to put a zero on the board in the following half-inning.
Justin Wrobleski has thrived this season with the ability to raise his level according to the situation, but what does he do when the opposition ambushes him? The Mariners managed to score five runs off the left-hander without even having a single at-bat with a runner in scoring position against him—courtesy of not two, not three, but four home runs against a pitcher who had allowed a total of three long ****** prior to this game. Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez, Rob Refsnyder, and Dominic Canzone all left the yard. While the homers hit by Rodríguez and Raleigh could be categorized as mistake pitches, the ones by Canzone and Refsnyder came on well-located fastballs at or well above the strike zone—it stands to reason that Wrobleski's heater didn't have the same life on it, or that the M's guessed right on multiple occasions.
For the Dodgers' offense against Castillo, it was an eventful game from start to finish, but one that could've been more dominant. The M's veteran starter allowed a leadoff bomb to Shohei Ohtani and had to deal with trouble in some form or another for his entire outing.

That series in Arlington wasn't a complete disaster thanks to that come-from-behind victory on Sunday, but the Mariners were pretty thoroughly outplayed by the Rangers over the last four games. That puts Seattle in a really tough position. The team clearly isn't good enough as constructed — they're also supposedly a buyer ahead of the trade deadline too — but it feels like the issues on the roster are deep enough that pasting over a few acquisitions this week won't solve the underlying problems (namely, massive underperformance from Cal and Julio). Anyway, the M's will be making big decisions about the rest of their season while playing a three-game set against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Good luck.

That was a very nice way to end the series, and the homestand.
Having good ****** ar Rocker on the mound certainly helped quite a bit.
I didn't think we were going to have good ****** ar Rocker in the early going. After a quick first, Randy Arozarena took Rocker deep to start the second inning, negating Joc Pederson's leadoff home run in the bottom of the first.
Then, staked to a 4-1 lead when he took the mound to start the third inning, thanks to Pederson's second homer of the day, Rocker gave up a flared single, a rocket single, and a line drive from Julio Rodriguez that resulted in a sacrifice fly, making it 4-2.

One Seattle Mariners fan has received the perfect gift after being hit in the face by a Julio Rodriguez home run.
It has been a rocky period for the Mariners, with Dan Wilson’s team only just maintaining a record over .500.
Tuesday saw the Mariners secure a convincing victory over the Cincinnati Reds, with Rodriguez capping off the scoring in the eighth with a homer.
For lifelong fan Nikki Jones, that home run ball caused a serious impact as she misjudged her catch and felt the ball strike her in the face.
Having not only suffered the impact of being struck in the face, Jones also lost out on the home run ball.

For almost five hours, the clock — metaphorically — threatened to strike midnight on the Dayton Dragons many times.
They trailed 6-0, 7-3 and 13-10.
But, at 11:59 p.m., the Dragons escaped midnight and defeat by putting the ball in play. Jacob Friend lofted a fly ball to deep left field, sending Julio Carreras home for the tie-breaking run and a 14-13 victory over Cedar Rapids with few left to witness it at Day Air Ballpark.
“It’s always fun to be the guy,” said Friend who was mobbed by teammates behind first base. “The goal there is just to pass it to the next guy. So that’s what we were trying to do. I just got in the air enough.”
Ninety-nine percent of the fans who were in the stadium for the first pitch cleared out after a one hour and 29-minute rain delay in the middle of the seventh inning. To be fair to those who left, the Dragons trailed 12-10. They had seen their money’s worth for seven innings, but they sure missed a lot in the final three and a half innings.

PHILADELPHIA − You won't see the ridiculous number of home runs by one player anymore, mainly because of the format change this year limiting MLB Home Run Derby participants to about 50 swings.
So Vladimir Guerrero's single-day total of 91 home runs in 2019 is safe, as is Julio Rodriguez's single-round total of 41 in 2023. Both were set during the 2015-25 period, when the derby was based on time.
This year, the Home Run Derby, held on July 13 as the precursor to the MLB All-Star Game on July 14, is based on swings. That was done so players don't tire out as easily.

The eight participants will be limited to 20 swings in the first round. Then the four semifinalists will get 15 in the next round. And the two finalists will get another 15. That adds up to 50 for the two finalists.
