Michigan improved to 2-0 on Saturday afternoon, beating Oklahoma 17-10.
Here are key takeaways from Michigan's win.
Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood was just 9-of-17 passing for 111 yards and was marginally better throwing the ball than he was in Week 1. However, he did some great things on the ground, including a 38-yard rushing touchdown to put Michigan up 7-0. In all, Underwood had 87 yards on the ground and the score. Underwood will have to improve passing. While Michigan should continue to lean on what he does best (running), that approach is bound to be stopped on a given week; the defense will give up more than 10 points, and Underwood's arm will decide if Michigan loses. Today was a step in the right direction; he didn't throw an interception despite a couple near picks. Even so, Michigan has a lot of tough games coming up this season (Penn State, Indiana, Oregon, Ohio State) and improvement is necessary through the air.
Michigan had 11 penalties for 90 yards, and many of these extended drives for Oklahoma. Jyaire Hill had a late hit, Dom Nichols ripped John Mateer's helmet off, Shamari Earls had a facemask penalty. Eliminating penalties was a point of emphasis heading into this game, but the team failed to follow the message that head coach Kyle Whittingham had. Michigan's lucky that all the yellow flags didn't cost them the game — because they nearly did.
Michigan held Oklahoma to just 289 yards and 3-of-13 on third down. Defensive end John Henry Daley (eight tackles, one sack) was an absolute force and disrupted Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer's timing, as was defensive end Dom Nichols (0.5 sacks). Linebackers such as Troy Bowles (nine tackles) and Nathaniel Staehling (seven tackles) played well, and safety Chris Bracy (six tackles) delivered hard hits throughout the game. It was a cohesive effort (besides the penalties).

We've got a game that counts on our hands Sunday afternoon, when the Commanders play the Eagles in Philadelphia.
In a word: Finally.
The 2026 NFL regular season is here, where we finally see what all those free-agent signings, NFL draft picks new play callers can do for a Commanders team looking to rebound from a 5-12 showing.
Starting the season against host Philadelphia is no easy task. It will require quality and consistent execution from both sides of the football, winning tough matchups and finding a way to pull through at the end.
We could pick darn near anyone as a key player in this matchup, but we'll stick to five Commanders (not named Jayden Daniels) to watch heading into this NFC East clash:

The lineups are out for tonight's series-opening showdown between the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. There's no major shakeup but there is a return to the lineup for one familiar face after he started Thursday's contest on the bench.
Ozzie Albies is back in the starting lineup for the Braves. Here's how the rest of Atlanta's lineup is looking:
Sale takes the mound tonight at TruistPark 💪 pic.twitter.com/sZRngGjbvQ
Ozzie has hit .249/.304/.411 so far this season with a wOBA of .311 and a wRC+ of 95. His big triple against the Rays on Thursday helped push Atlanta past Tampa Bay and gave them what could amount to being a very crucial win if all continues to go well for the Braves as far as this particular series is concerned.
Outside of that, there are no major changes from yesterday and in fact, this is the same group of nine batters that squared off against Aaron Nola last week. The bottom of the order is slightly different but the players remain the same. For what it's worth, Ronald Acuña Jr. has an OPS of 1.076 against Nola in 56 pat-bats. Austin Riley has done a similar level of damage as well with an OPS of 1.111 over 62 ABs. Mike Yastrzemski and Drake Baldwin have both been successful as well (1.046 and 1.056 OPS, respectively) against Nola but they both have much smaller sample sizes (16 and 8 ABs, respectively) to go with. Let's see if that turns into a factor during tonight's contest.

Rudy Gobert has spent years dealing with mixed reviews about his defense. That debate looks different when one of the NBA's best offensive players gives him credit for making the game harder.
Nikola Jokic has faced Gobert plenty of times and knows where the Timberwolves center can cause problems. His latest comments give Gobert a notable endorsement from someone who has spent years trying to attack him.
Jokic discussed the defenders who make his job difficult during an appearance on the Jao Mile podcast. When the conversation reached Gobert, the Denver star dismissed the idea that the Timberwolves center is overrated on defense.

"Rudy Gobert, I know people have all kinds of opinions about him, but Rudy is a good defender. He showed it in the last playoffs," Jokic said.

Steve Maltepes, known as "The Philly Godfather," will impart his gambling wisdom on the Eagles and where the smart money is going on various pro football games each weekend this season. Maltepes is one of the nation's hottest sports betting experts who appears weekly on national radio and has his own website, www.thephillygodfather.com [thephillygodfather.com].
Much is expected of the 2026 Philadelphia Eagles. Talk of a dynasty and winning consecutive Super Bowls ended last year in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, though it does not mean the Eagles will not contend as threepeat champions of the NFC East and make a deep run in the NFC playoffs.
First and foremost on everyone's mind is winning the NFC East. What comes first for professional gamblers is putting their money where their knowledge lies.
So, in talking to Steve Maltepes, known as "The Philly Godfather," one of the country's elite sports betting authorities and a native of the Philadelphia area, his heart still lies with the Eagles, but his money will be placed on the Dallas Cowboys to win the NFC East and win more than the over/under wins-loss total of 10 games, while placing his money on the under for the Eagles' total of 10.5 wins.
"I have the under for 10.5 wins for the Eagles and Jalen Hurts under 3,250.5 yards passing, the Cowboys to the NFC East +200, and the Eagles to make the playoffs -175," Maltepes said. "The great news for the Eagles is that the team nucleus is still one of the best in the NFL, and their offensive and defensive line projections are among the top five in the NFL. The first three weeks should go well, opening with Washington, Tennessee and ta Chicago Bears team a lot of people think will regress in 2026. They should be 3-0, and any team that starts 3-0 makes the playoffs 75-percent of the time.

UFC legend Diego Sanchez has been arrested once again.
Sanchez, 44, was arrested and booked Monday at 5:17 p.m. local time in Socorro, N.M. on two charges: aggravated driving under the influence and probation violation, according to online jail records. Local news outlet KOB4 first reported the news.
No further details about the arrest have become available at this time.
Sanchez was sentenced to five years of supervised probation in March after a July 2025 arrest for shooting a loaded gun out of the window of a car while riding in the passenger seat on the highway. Prosecutors had requested a two-year prison sentence for a fourth-degree felony charge of shooting at or from a motor vehicle. A second charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon was dropped as part of a plea agreement.
Following the judge's decision, Sanchez said he accepted responsibility for the incident and pointed to substance abuse issues and mental health problems, both of which he was seeking help for at the time of the incident, as contributing factors.

Barcelona faced off against Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium earlier today as they hoped to secure all three points on the road in La Liga. The Catalan club made a bright start to the game and got their noses ahead in the sixth-minute thanks to Lamine Yamal's effort. Fermin Lopez doubled his team's advantage in the 22nd minute as Barcelona went into the half-time break 2-0 up on the scoreline.
Raphinha put daylight between the two sides in the 50th minute before Pedri made it 4-0 for Hansi Flick's team in the 79th minute. Yamal got himself another goal just five minutes later as the Catalan giants earned a dominant 5-0 win away from home.
Let's take a look at how each Barcelona player fared during the clash against Valencia.
He made a couple of solid saves at the back and did enough to secure the clean sheet.
RB: Eric Garcia – 6.5/10

What exactly happened in England this afternoon? During the match between Portsmouth FC and Cardiff City, away defender Krystian Bielik and a fan got into an altercation.
With the home side leading 2-0, the young fan tried to stop Bielik from taking a quick throw-in. The Pole clearly did not take kindly to that. He grabbed the home fan by the neck before the boy's family members stepped in and calmed the situation down.
The crazy part: according to media reports, the family, including the young fan, was then thrown out of the stadium. Bielik, meanwhile, did not even receive a card for his action. However, the Pole had already been booked earlier.

The Hoops spent much of the window searching for reinforcements on the left side of defence after it became clear Marcelo Saracchi would not be returning to Parkhead.
Amass emerged as one potential option, with The Athletic reporting that Celtic expressed an interest in the highly-rated 19-year-old following his successful loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.
The youngster had been expected to leave Old Trafford permanently this summer, but Manchester United's failure to bring in another left-back means he is now set to remain at the club.
Celtic were far from alone in pursuing Amass. Stoke City, Birmingham City, Millwall, QPR and Burnley were also interested, with the latter reportedly having a £3.5million bid rejected.
Sporting in Portugal and recently-relegated Bundesliga side Wolfsburg were among his admirers on the continent.

Everton's pursuit of Folarin Balogun has collapsed at the final stage, leaving David Moyes and the club's recruitment team with a major problem after a dramatic deadline day twist. According to The Athletic, the United States international decided against completing the move after late complications, despite Everton having already pushed deep into the process with Monaco.
This was far from a routine transfer that simply ran out of time. Everton had worked to renegotiate terms with Monaco after concerns emerged during Balogun's medical. They then filed a dealsheet with the Premier League in an attempt to secure the extra window needed to finish the paperwork beyond the 11pm BST deadline. Even then, the expectation around Finch Farm was that a route remained open. Instead, Balogun chose not to continue and left without signing.
For Everton, that detail matters. This was not a case of Monaco pulling away or the numbers becoming impossible. The club had stayed at the table, tried to reshape the structure and remained hopeful that an agreement could still be salvaged. In the end, the player made the call.
The timing makes the setback even more severe. Everton had already allowed Beto to leave for Fiorentina, a significant decision in itself given the need for reliable depth in attacking areas. Iliman Ndiaye has also moved on to Manchester City, further reducing the options in the final third. Tyrique George has arrived permanently from Chelsea, while Jack Grealish has returned on loan from Manchester City, but neither development truly addresses the obvious need for a central striker ready to carry the line.

The San Francisco 49ers could have an interesting decision to make on Mac Jones after keeping three quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster. Brock Purdy remains the starter, while Jones enters the final year of his contract as the main backup.
Meanwhile, Kurtis Rourke has earned a spot after making a strong impression during the preseason. That development could eventually give San Francisco the flexibility to revisit trade possibilities involving Jones. The 49ers were reportedly open to moving the experienced quarterback during the offseason. However, they did not receive an offer that met their valuation. Now, Rourke's emergence could change the equation.

NFL insider Nick Wagoner believes keeping Rourke could eventually reopen the possibility of trading Jones. The rookie's development gives San Francisco another potential option behind Purdy, especially as Jones approaches free agency. An NFL-themed platform on X provides insider information on the situation.
"The Niners were always going to have starter Brock Purdy and backup Mac Jones on the initial 53-man roster, but retaining Kurtis Rourke as the third signal-caller indicates a few things about the future of the position. First, it shows that Rourke impressed enough in camp to earn a spot on the 53 despite suffering broken ribs in the first half of the first preseason game. With Jones entering the final year of his deal, the Niners are happy to hang on to him now as Purdy's primary backup. And though they'd love to keep him around, growing belief in Rourke could also reopen the possibility of trading Jones at some point. If not, Rourke, once he heals up, has a chance to show he's capable of being the top backup to Purdy in the not-too-distant future."

The FSU Seminoles opened the season with a win over the New Mexico State Aggies, pulling out a 34-17 win in Doak Campbell Stadium. It was a much tougher game than expected, to the dismay of FSU's fans.
The Aggies were in the game from the start, driving on the field on the opening drive of the game before an interception ended the drive, allowing FSU to take an early lead. Despite the turnover, New Mexico State head coach Tony Sanchez liked what he saw from quarterback Trey Hedden.
"Yeah, I thought Trey really stepped up," he said. "We're big believers in him, and that's why we named him the starter. He's got some really good guys behind him, but I thought he did a really good job. They did a pretty good job of harassing him, and I thought the line stepped up too. I mean, I thought they played well.
"But he made one poor decision early on, on that interception. But other than that, I thought he played a really, really good game. He played a tough physical game. So I'm glad he's leading us."
Hedden completed 26 of his 42 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns with the one interception. FSU was only able to sack him three times, with him doing a good job of getting the ball out quickly.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was notably dejected after a tough loss to the Detroit Tigers, in which the offense found similar ways to disappoint.
The Dodgers went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position on Saturday, leaving six men on base.
There was a moment that felt all too familiar when the Dodgers worked the bases loaded in the sixth inning, with just one out on the board and the game tied at one apiece.
LA looked ready to pile on some runs and really open the game up, but instead, the offense once again failed to deliver with a runner in scoring position.

WOODROW — Frenship opened the 2026 high school football season with a dominant 50-17 win over rival Lubbock-Cooper on Friday. Here's a look at the key takeaways.
It shouldn't come as a surprise another quarterback is thriving at Frenship.
James "Bear" Ordonez completed his first 10 passes in his debut, throwing five touchdowns in the first half as Frenship led 34-10. He finished 17 of 22 for 281 yards and no interceptions.
"He and I had a lot of conversations about the old frying pan," Tigers coach Jay Northcutt said, alluding to his metaphor of an inexperienced QB's struggles. "I know it'll come at some point. A lot of times it is the first game, but he seemed to have dodged it. Just a good performance by him and his teammates as well."
Frenship raced out to a 27-0 lead, and things got worse for Cooper late in the opening half.

He joined them from Club Brugge, and most people would feel that the quality in the Belgian league is nowhere near what is obtainable in England, so he would need time to adapt.
However, that has not been the case, as Tzolis enjoyed a good pre-season and has started the campaign strongly as well, which is good news for ****** nal. He has been a starter for their team since moving to the club, and the winger will maintain that role as long as he continues to perform well.
With Gabriel Martinelli on his way out of the club, Tzolis will get plenty of chances to play, especially if no replacement for the Brazilian is signed by the club. That could increase his risk of injury, but Sagna does not expect that to be the case.
The former ****** nal defender believes Tzolis is intelligent enough to protect himself during matches while continuing to contribute at a high level. His ability to avoid challenges could prove valuable during a long campaign.

Britons Jacob Fearnley, Toby Samuel, Harry Wendelken and Harriet Dart stand one win away from a place in the US Open main draw after coming through their second round qualifying matches in New York.
Fearnley showed great resilience in battling to a three-set victory over Frenchman Luka Pavlovic, which set up a meeting with Austria's Jurij Rodionov.
The 25-year-old world number 100 recovered from a break of serve down to take the opening set, and held his nerve in the decider after his opponent levelled the match to clinch a 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 win.
Samuel, bidding to qualify for the US Open for the first time, produced a comeback victory against fellow Briton Billy Harris.
The 23-year-old, who made his slam debut at this year's French Open, recovered to win 4-6 6-4 6-1 and set up a meeting with Chile's former top-20 player Cristian Garin.

Tom Brady made his runway modeling debut in Demna's Gucci cruise show in May, and he just strengthened his place in Gucci lore as a face of Demna's fall-winter 2026 collection.
As such, Brady spoke exclusively GQ, and Jeremy Freed asked the seven-time Super Bowl champion whether he'd ever wear a suit without a shirt in his real life.
"For my broadcasting, I'm usually in a suit, but I don't know how my producer and director at Fox would handle it if I came in without a shirt on," Brady said. "I'm not sure how the football audience would love that. I take my jacket off a lot during the game, so that wouldn't turn out great."
That doesn't mean we should rule out seeing Brady in a leather-on-leather ensemble in the NFL on Fox booth this fall, however.
"I'd never really done leather on leather before, but there are some leather pants in my closet now," Brady said, in response to whether his runway strut was his first introduction to leather on leather. "I thought, 'Damn, that's actually really comfortable.' I could see why people wear this. It's definitely a different look. It felt more like a uniform — there was a rigidity and a structure to it, like my football uniform."

Children across the country may have been inspired, by recent European Athletics Championships and the feats of athletes like British sprinters Amy Hunt and Matthew Hudson-Smith, to take up the sport.
But is the sport ready for them? One club not far from the venue which hosted the championships said they were struggling to cope with the interest.
A summer camp run by the Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club was well-attended which their chairman, Colin Thompson, said "was inspired by" the Birmingham event.
"That helps us, but what happens is people come down, having been inspired by the sport, only to find that we can't accommodate them through lack of coaches," he added.
The club has lost four coaches over the last year and struggles to maintain their track, due to local plant life.

James Pearce has said it 'would be no surprise' if two Liverpool players in particular were to leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.
There were a couple of notable omissions from Andoni Iraola's matchday squad for his first official game in charge against Newcastle on Sunday, with no place in the starting XI or even on the bench for Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa.
The two attackers have been touted for potential exits from Anfield for some time, and speculation will inevitably be fuelled by them having no part to play in the 2-2 draw at St James' Park.
In an article for The Athletic reflecting upon yesterday's match, Pearce hinted that the Liverpool duo could viably depart the club before next Tuesday's transfer deadline after they were overlooked by Iraola for the trip to Tyneside.
He wrote: 'With Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott not even making the bench against Newcastle, it would be no surprise if they moved on in the remaining eight days of the window.'

The Chargers hosted the 49ers for a joint practice on Tuesday, and if social media is any indicator, Los Angeles dominated their California neighbors from up north.
The Bolts were toying with the Niners for the most part, as evidenced by reports and videos out of El Segundo. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was dealing, as the offense was by far the best unit in the practices. Mike McDaniel's offense looked crisp and sharp with the starters.
Herbter's deep ball gave the San Francisco secondary fits all practice long.
The Chargers and 49ers went back and forth with each other, but Los Angeles got the best of them in many areas including the red zone. They had five total team periods, and four of the five team periods came in the red zone when Herbert and Ladd McConkey put up their best performance.
The Chargers defense also showed up and showed out, with rookie Genesis Smith making his mark.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Kesiean Nixon is battling to hold onto his starting job.
This was supposed to be a quiet, uneventful summer in Green Bay — where most starting jobs seemed settled a month ago.
Or so we thought.
Instead, several positional battles have unfolded. Here's a look at those, and a prediction of how they'll end.
Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine were the starters in 2025. Both could be coming off the bench, or in different uniforms in 2026.
