Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. is coming off the best season of his career after being thrust into the position of being the primary for a Nets team in need of scoring. Even though Brooklyn got Porter more help in the form of former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle, the former Denver Nuggets sharpshooter is making sure to put the work in this summer.
The National Basketball Player's ****** ociation (NBPA) recently unveiled a 24/7 performance center in Los Angeles, California that NBA players can use during the regular season and offseason, according to James H. Williams of USA Today. Williams revealed that Porter is one of the approximately 200 players that spend part of their offseason in the City of Angels so the NBPA wanted to make sure that those players had somewhere to go to work on their game.
"Michael Porter Jr. and Mo Bamba also were seen in the facility going through their offseason process," Williams wrote in his piece. The facility, known as the PLYRS UNTD Performance Center, will be added to the group of facilities that the NBPA has "like the one located at its New York headquarters and The Sanctuary, which serves as an offseason performance retreat for NBA players in Spain."
Porter, 28, is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he did not make the first All-Star team of his career as many expected for him to do so, but that doesn't mean that his numbers weren't spectacular. Porter played 52 games for the Nets last season, posting averages of 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.0 ****** ists per game while shooting 46.3% from the field and 36.3% from behind the three-point line.
Williams noted in his article that the NBPA will attempt to organize open runs during the offseason so that players can get used to playing with each other, which might be the case for Porter and Randle. Either way, the NBA players now have a new facility to visit during their travels and someone like Porter can now work on his game while visiting Los Angeles at an NBPA-ran facility.

When Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby was asked about the team's defensive offseason additions at the beginning of training camp, he mentioned one player by name: linebacker Quay Walker.
"It was back in OTAs," Crosby replied, "but I was out there doing a walkthrough, and I'm getting in a stance, and we're in the indoor [facility], Quay gave me a call and I just looked back. I looked at him and started just laughing out loud, and I don't even know why. He's like, 'What are you laughing at, bro?' I'm like, 'I've never seen a linebacker that big. I've never played with a linebacker that looks like the size of me.'"
The 6-foot-5, 255-pound defensive lineman was rightfully impressed by the 6-foot-4, 240-pound linebacker's size. According to MockDraftable, Walker's measurements at the 2022 NFL Combine are in the 91st, 61st and 84th percentiles when it comes to height, weight and wingspan (nearly 80 inches), respectively, for the position. It's worth noting that MockDraftable's database goes back to 1999, when linebackers were heavier in the NFL, and 240-plus-pound second-level defenders are a rare breed in today's game.
That change is due to the rise of the passing game in the league, shifting the priority to athletic linebackers who can hold up in coverage. Despite what his size might suggest, the Georgia product is also an elite athlete for the position. He tested very well at the combine to earn a 9.63 out of 10 Relative Athletic Score, highlighted by a 4.52-second 40-yard dash (9.65 RAS), 6.89-second three-cone time (9.29) and 10-foot-2 broad jump (8.69).

CLEVELAND — All-Star starting pitcher Foster Griffin is scheduled to make his Guardians debut on Thursday, Aug. 6, against the New York Mets at Progressive Field, manager Stephen Vogt said.
The Guardians acquired the left-handed Griffin from the Washington Nationals shortly before the MLB trade deadline on Monday, Aug. 3. In return, Cleveland sent pitchers Will Dion, Josh Hartle, Kendeglys Virguez and outfielder Nick Mitchell to Washington.
"The year he's having, All-Star, one of the best starters in the game, and to add him with our group of starters that we already have and to work with [catchers Austin Hedges and Patrick Bailey] and our pitching coaches, [my advice to him is] keep doing what you've been doing all year," Vogt said of Griffin. It's been almost three weeks since Booker High announced it had removed head football coach and athletic director Carlos Woods, and a lot had happened in the wake of that move.
The Tornadoes have seen a massive roster shakeup, have hired a new coach and have seen games slip from their schedule.
Here's it was we know about the Booker High football program and the status of Woods as of Aug. 4.
Woods was removed as Booker's athletic director and head football coach on July 16 with no reason given by the Sarasota School District and the district has yet to explain other to say Woods is under a district investigation. Woods led the Tornadoes to a 12-2 record and a state semifinal appearance in his only season as head coach.
The Sarasota Police Department confirmed Woods was under a criminal investigation "for allegations we received from an outside agency," in a email sent on July 29.

The Hoosiers and Fighting Irish were set to meet in Bloomington and South Bend in 2030 and 2031 seasons in a pair of games agreed to years ago when Tom Allen and Brian Kelly were still leading their respective programs.
Notre Dame has replaced those games with a rescheduled series against historic rival USC. It remains to be seen how Indiana, which reportedly requested out of the series, replaces those gaps in its schedule.
As of now, the Hoosiers have no power conference opponents in future non-conference schedules. Indiana has previously cancelled series against both Louisville and Virginia. Indiana's approach to non-conference scheduling predates Curt Cignetti's hiring as head coach, with the aforementioned Louisville series being cancelled during Tom Allen's time leading the program.

Since then, Pope went to Kentucky and was replaced in Provo by Kevin Young, who has won 60% of his Big 12 matchups, reached a Sweet 16 and produced two first-round NBA draft selections — all while Bahr served as a missionary in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The fact that Aaron Rodgers's scorched-earth attack on Dr. Anthony Fauci and ESPN, while appearing on ESPN, has prompted a comment from the team and a question to the head coach makes it, necessarily, a distraction.
Still, coach Mike McCarthy's goal will be to keep any of it from interfering with the task at hand.

But at the end of the day, my job is to keep it about football, keep the focus on winning. That's why we're here. We have a good locker room. We have a player council that's in place and we had our second meeting yesterday, and so I think we're in a good spot."

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit have spent years trying to turn a modest island cabin into a showcase of Norwegian design — an ambitious renovation that stalled just as it was about to break ground. Now a storm named Amy has done what years of royal scandal couldn't: it forced their hands. The tempest tore apart one of the docks on Flatholmen, the tiny island the couple has owned since 2008. The damage has produced the first real building permit the property has seen in years — not for the glass-and-timber dream house long promised, but for a humble pier.

But according to royal expert Phil Dampier, Sarah "will want to try and get back in with the King for the sake of her daughters", Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Sarah and Andrew's grown-up daughters have not completely retreated from public life, but have kept a very low profile amid the controversy surrounding their parents.
