Green Bay Packers receiver Christian Watson suffered an injury at the end of a 53-yard catch during the second quarter of Thursday night's showdown with the Carolina Panthers.
Watson made the catch between two defenders while going to the ground. The Packers say Watson is questionable to return with a chest injury.
After being evaluated on the field, Watson walked off the field under his own power. He was evaluated inside the blue medical tent and then walked back to the locker room. The Prime Video broadcast showed Watson getting into an ambulance after exiting the field.
John Kuhn of the Packers Radio Network said Watson would be taken to a local hospital for "precautionary tests."
Watson appeared to land hard, and the trailing defensive back fell on his back to amplify the impact.

The Dallas Cowboys arrived at Lambeau Field needing a response after an ugly loss to Tampa Bay, but another slow offensive performance and unprepared defense left Dallas chasing the game all evening.
Dallas went into halftime down 17-0, with turnovers and penalties repeatedly wasting opportunities leading to Dallas falling to Green Bay 23-13. Here are this week's winners and losers from the game.
Dallas has waited a long time for an interception, and Dee Winters finally delivered one.
Winters read Jordan Love perfectly late in the first quarter, stepped in front of the pass and appeared to return it for a touchdown before replay ruled him down at the Green Bay 42-yard line. Even without the score, it was exactly the type of momentum-changing defensive play Dallas has desperately needed.
The frustrating part was that the offense immediately wasted the opportunity with an interception of its own. That shouldn't take anything away from Winters. On a defense that was searching for takeaways and impact plays, Winters provided one.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris to BBC Match of the Day: "Frustrating result. Good game, especially in the second half. I think we went toe to toe with them and they are flying at the moment. We had the opportunity to score, I think it was deserved, [we] didn't score and thirty second after we conceded the goal. This is the level. I think they are relentless. When you don't seize your opportunities it's hard.
"The first half we were a bit reserved, respectful, knowing their threat and the way they play. The way they can damage your defence. So we were really well-organised, but we agreed at half-time it was important to show our quality with the ball. And that we did really well managing long ***** at times and short ***** when it was possible to play and we created chances.
"[David] Raya was one of the best players on the pitch today. It shows we are dangerous but not enough to score. We are really close. Winning is a process. They are at the top level right now. We were close this evening, it wasn't enough, but it was a good experience for us and our fans. We are getting better game after every game, it's hard to take but we need to go again.
"We have to believe and then it's a question of fine margins. Those fine margins are so hard to improve because it is the last percent and you need to work hard to get this one. We are in a good place. It's important to digest quickly because we have an impressive week ahead."

Eli Drinkwitz doesn't usually mince words. While mostly affable, the Missouri head coach doesn't always subscribe to tact. He's not to afraid to say how he feels.
He certainly didn't pull any punches after his No. 23 Tigers squad humbled Kansas on the road Friday night in the latest iteration of the schools' "Border Showdown." Missouri (2-0) handed the Jayhawks (1-1) a 38-21 defeat that could have looked even more lopsided had a head-turning shot to the end zone not fallen incomplete in the game's waning moments at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.
That potential death knell resulted from Drinkwitz's frustration toward Kansas and the way the Jayhawks brazenly approached the programs' longstanding yet complicated rivalry in the lead-up to the matchup.
Kansas leaned into the Civil War history between the two states, posting a pregame hype video framed as "heroes vs. villains" with the social media caption, "It is that deep." Drinkwitz wasn't amused and fundamentally disagreed.
"I get there's a past to it, but why are we stirring that bull **** up? It's 9/11," Drinkwitz said postgame on Friday, the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

With the first game of the Cleveland Browns season just a couple of days away, they made it official on Friday that rookie offensive lineman Austin Barber would be the team's starter at right guard on Sunday when they open the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Veteran offensive lineman Teven Jenkins was slated to be the team's starting right guard this season, but an injury will hold him out of at least this week's game. Barber didn't play guard at Florida, so it's a new position for him after logging 2,087 snaps at left tackle and 490 snaps at right tackle during his time with the Gators.
Barber was a surprising pick at 86 overall for the Browns, but now they are asking him to start right away, and his experience will be something he needs to lean on, even at a new position on the offensive line. He brings a nasty temperament to the run game, looking to finish guys by blocking them into the dirt; maybe the Browns lucked their way into another Wyatt Teller-style player at the right guard position.

Carolina Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn may have just liked to be a Pro Bowler by ******* le only.
The star defender chatted with reporters from his locker following Thursday's practice. He was asked about the NFL's discontinuation of their annual Pro Bowl Games, and didn't hold back on his thoughts . . .
Two weeks ago, the league announced that they'll no longer hold a competitive event to highlight their all-stars. Instead, beginning with the 2026 campaign, 88 players will be honored simply by being named Pro Bowlers.
NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent commented on the change in a statement upon the announcement.
"This direction came directly from our continued conversations with players and what they value most about the Pro Bowl," Vincent said. "Being selected by your peers, coaches and fans as one of the very best at your position carries tremendous meaning. We heard clearly that the distinction matters, and our focus is on making the recognition that comes with it worthy of what these players accomplished on the field."

Richard Hughes has left Liverpool as sporting director. Now an awful plan can follow him out of the door.
It's the end of the Richard Hughes era at Anfield. He's no longer the Liverpool sporting director and the Reds will move forward with new ideas running the show.
The Hughes era will go down as a strange one. One of the strangest, in fact, as Liverpool tore up a ****** le-winning team and replaced it in controversial fashion. The remaining squad looks unbalanced and has three nine-figure signings in it - a strange combination to say the least.
But the gameplan under Hughes has been strange. Liverpool moved away from their model that saw them sign players for the positions they needed them - or rather, where Jürgen Klopp needed them.
Instead, the 'manager' role became the 'head coach' role. The club signed the 'best' players available and then asked a coach to make the best possible team out of them, something Arne Slot found impossible last season.

Former ****** nal and Manchester City fullback Bacary Sagna believes Inter Milan are "the perfect club" for England stars John Stones, Djed Spence and Curtis Jones.
Sagna argued that Inter Milan is the club in the Serie A that most resembles a Premier League club in terms of how they play.
Furthermore, Sagna, revealed that he is an Inter Milan and was close to joining the club. However the move never materialized and Sagna suggested this was a what-if moment in his career.
The former France international also praised Inter Milan's now former Sporting Director Piero Ausilio, who recently departed the club after 28 years.
Subsequently, Sagna backed Djed Spence to not only succeed at Inter Milan and the Serie A, but also deemed the England star as being better balanced than Denzel Dumfries who joined

Here at Over The Monster, we like to ask a topical question of the day; but on this dreary morning, we might as well be asking the question of the month. Very simply: If the Wild Card series started today, who would you want starting those three games?
Of course, the Wild Card series doesn't start today, and Red Sox haven't officially punched their ticket into the dance yet. But with FanGraphs giving them a 97.1 percent chance to make the playoffs and only 0.3 percent chance to win the division as of this morning, it seems pretty darn likely they're going to be playing baseball on September 29th (and playing it somewhere other than Fenway Park).
The Red Sox know this as well and have already reshuffled their rotation to pitch Sonny Gray on Saturday (September 5th) and Payton Tolle on Sunday (September 6th). With off days for the month already scheduled for the 10th, 14th, 17th, and 28th (assuming they make the playoffs), this means Gray and Tolle could pitch with an extra day of rest every start from here to the end of the year in a normal five man rotation and be perfectly lined up to pitch Game 1 and Game 2 of the Wild Card series. (September 11th and 12th against the Royals, September 17th and 18th against the Rangers and Rays, September 23rd and 24th against the Guardians, and September 29th and 30th against the Wild Card opponent.)
So the Red Sox have already told us who they believe will start the first two games of the playoffs indirectly, but third option is far more complex. Historically, Ranger Suarez would be the best man for the job. Not only did they just give him a $130 million contract in January, but he also has a 1.48 career ERA in the playoffs. However, the Sox might not be too pleased with the way he threw the ball in Sunday's start against the Yankees with the tiebreaker on the line, and they might not want to set things up that way again for a potential winner take all game on October 1st.
So what about tonight's starter Jake Bennett? He just might be pitching for a postseason starting job over the next few weeks. If he does well and ****** ody steps up, the Sox could end up sending a rookie to the mound to start and do or die game in Yankee Stadium for the second year in a row.

Premier League clubs have smashed their summer transfer record with over £3.3bn spent. More than half of the Premier League's clubs broke their transfer records in a summer window featuring four of the top flight's five most expensive ever deals.
Manchester City completed the biggest deal on the final hours of the window by singing Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125m, while Liverpool paid £120m for Bradley Barcola, Chelsea made Morgan Rogers their record signing for £117m and Tottenham also broke the £100m barrier by recruiting midfielder Sandro Tonali.
City were the biggest spenders overall with around £435m paid in transfer fees, followed by Chelsea (£349.8m) and Tottenham (£315m). Chelsea recouped the most in sales (£385m) with Aston Villa also receiving more than £300m in transfer fees after selling six of the players who started last season's Europa League final.
But who got value in the market or which club is now fearing the worst? Here's how every club rated at the end of another hectic transfer window:
Ins: Bruno Guimaraes (£75m), Ezri Konsa (£51m), Piero Hincapie (£45m), Christos Tzolis (£34m), Illan Meslier (free), Elijah Upson (free), Igor Tyjon (undisclosed fee), James Scanlon (undisclosed fee)

Nordi Mukiele was simply incredible.
I'm not sure if I just haven't seen him at centre half for a while and forgot that that's what he always does, but he didn't give Fulham a sniff.
Strong, fast, incisive and an incredible leader…it's great to see him back in arguably his best position (he's just great everywhere).
A rare criticism that I think could've been levelled at the lads last week was their overall application.
It's hard to say whether it was tiredness or attitude, but I'm happy to say that this wasn't the case yesterday.

It takes a truly exceptional affordability crisis to put Bill Ackman and Zohran Mamdani on the same side of the barricade. Yet this month the billionaire hedge fund manager and New York's democratic socialist mayor found common cause over an unlikely grievance: the cost of getting into the US Open.
Ackman took objection to the cost of a grounds pass listed for $363. Mamdani responded to the broader uproar by securing 1,000 tickets for New York residents at $100 apiece, prompting more than 336,000 people to apply for them. Somewhere between the two sits the uneasy economics of the modern US Open, where a $65 ticket with no guaranteed seat on any court can fetch more than five times that amount on the tournament's resale marketplace.
For generations the US Open has traded on its reputation as the people's slam. Take the 7 train to Queens, buy a grounds pass and spend the day milling about within a few feet of the world's best tennis players. But as the final major of the season begins in earnest on Sunday, that democratic ideal has been confronted with a basic problem: more and more of the people are being priced out.
"The US Open is owned by the USTA which is a non-profit," Ackman wrote on social media. "The idea that a day one ground pass is $363 is absurd. The USTA's mission is to promote the sport of tennis. How is a $363 ground pass consistent with this mission?"

Rapid reaction from the Tennessee ***** ans' 24-15 loss to the Chicago Bears at Nissan Stadium in the final of three preseason games:
Robert Saleh, deviating from the original plan, opted to rest most – but not all – of the ***** ans' starters for this final preseason game. Cam Ward, Jeffery Simmons, Wan'Dale Robinson, Calvin Ridley and others weren't in uniform, but several expected ***** ans contributors did play. Among them: Receivers Carnell Tate, Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike, right guard Fernando Carmona Jr., defensive linemen Solomon Thomas, Jordan Elliott and Jacob Martin, nickel cornerback Marcus Harris and linebackers Cedric Gray, Anthony Hill Jr. and James Williams Sr.
It wasn't the first-string this time, but the ***** ans' defense didn't start well in this preseason game, either, giving up a 97-yard touchdown on the Bears' first offensive snap when cornerback Keydrain Calligan fell down in coverage. Later in the first half, Chicago capped a 16-play, 69-yard drive with a second TD pass for quarterback Tyson Bagent, who was 16-of-17 passing for 208 yards.
Tate did not record a catch in three preseason games. He was targeted only once against the Bears, diving unsuccessfully for a deep ball thrown by quarterback Will Levis into the end zone. While the ***** ans surely would've liked to get more production from their rookie No. 4 overall draft pick in the preseason games, it eased some concerns to see Tate bounce back from a brief rough patch and play a starring role during this past week's joint practice with the Bears.
In what might've been his final game in a ***** ans' uniform, Levis started at quarterback (Mitch Trubisky didn't play, either) and went 14-of-22 passing for 143 yards. Vols legend Hendon Hooker played the rest of the way after halftime. Cut day will be here quickly on Aug. 30. It'll be interesting to see what happens with these two quarterbacks.

Napoli are whittling down their squad, officially loaning Cyril Ngonge and Michael Folorunsho to Monza, while selling Walid Cheddira to Avellino.
The Partenopei went into the summer knowing that they had to tighten their belts on the transfer market, unable to bring in any new players until some had been sold first.
They completed a triple exit today, with two players going to newly-promoted Serie A side Monza.

They completed a triple exit today, with two players going to newly-promoted Serie A side Monza.

The San Francisco 49ers will wrap up their preseason Thursday night against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated most of the 49ers starters won't play in Thursday's game, but there are still enough roster spots to work out that the game should have at least some intrigue without the 49ers' top groups on the field. They'll be facing a Raiders squad that rolled out its starters in Week 1, but left their second preseason game to the reserves and No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. It wouldn't be a surprise if the 49ers get a long look at the top pick from this year's draft.
Here's where to watch the 49ers vs. Raiders in Week 3 of the NFL preseason.

In the end, Jonathan ***** inga was willing to take less money per year to get back on the market sooner rather than take a longer contract with more guaranteed money.
After intense recruiting from Anthony Edwards and others, ***** inga has agreed to join the Timberwolves on a two-year, $13 million contract, a story broken by Shams Charania of ESPN. ***** inga stepped into the taxpayer mid-level exception the Timberwolves still had available.
This is a recruiting coup for the Timberwolves, who put on a full-court press in the last month, Charania reported. That included Edwards and other players, as well as team president Tim Connelly, who reportedly had a four-hour meeting with him. ***** inga is expected to step into the starting lineup at the three next to LaMelo Ball, Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
The Lakers had been pursuing ***** inga to become a starter next to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, and they were trying to work out a sign-and-trade with Atlanta, but that would have required ***** inga to sign at least a three-year contract instead of the two in Minnesota. Plus, the Lakers and Hawks struggled to come close to a trade that worked for both sides for a variety of reasons (such as the Hawks wanting picks but not taking on players).
Kuminga did not find as robust a market for his services as he expected this summer. Atlanta chose not to pick up his $24.3 million team option, and ***** inga initially hoped for a deal in the ballpark, or at least north of $15 million. Eventually, it became about the shorter contract and the opportunity to play on a team with big expectations and to prove his value in that setting that lured him to Minnesota.

Mercury make intriguing roster move immediately after DeWanna Bonner exit originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Phoenix Mercury did not wait long to use the roster opening created by DeWanna Bonner's departure.
Phoenix announced Tuesday that it signed rookie guard Saylor Poffenbarger to a seven-day contract. The move came one day after Bonner reached a buyout agreement with the team. Bonner and the Mercury parted ways after Phoenix was eliminated from playoff contention. The agreement gives the 38-year-old veteran an opportunity to join a contender before the end of her 17th WNBA season.
The move also gives Phoenix a chance to evaluate a young player during its remaining games.
Poffenbarger went undrafted in 2026 but later signed with the Chicago Sky.

Real Madrid have decided how they want to deal with the growing attention around Vinicius Jr., and the plan has two clear sides.
Publicly, the club and Jose Mourinho are prepared to defend the Brazilian whenever they believe he is being unfairly targeted by opponents, supporters or match officials.
Privately, though, Vinicius is being asked to take control of his own reactions and avoid giving anyone the opportunity to drag him away from his football.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the approach is already in place.
The club does not want to change Vinicius as a player or ask him to ignore everything happening around him.

Gleison Bremer has given an honest ******* sment of the Juventus team after his goal helped the side beat Frosinone in their Serie A opener.
Juve were expected to dominate the fixture, and they did so in the first half, but they failed to take all their chances, something that could have proved costly. The team have several new players who need time to settle quickly, but they also have to collect results while that process is taking place because there is little time to waste.
If Juventus lose ground on the teams that start the season in strong form, it could take a long time to catch them. The Old Lady wants to be serious about winning trophies this term, making a strong start particularly important.
Bremer is one of the players whose commitment to the team cannot be doubted, and the defender has now reacted to their 1-0 win at Frosinone. He scored the game's only goal and believes the team still have to improve in many areas.
The Brazilian was pleased to contribute to the victory, but his comments also highlighted the work Juventus still need to do. Bremer recognises that the season has only just begun, while also stressing that the team must become more effective when opportunities arise.

Where to watch Newcastle vs. Liverpool live stream, TV channel, start time for Premier League match originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Newcastle and Liverpool have combined in some of the Premier League's most historically memorable clashes.
But it has been a close season of upheaval on both Tyneside and Merseyside ahead of Sunday's standout opening weekend clash at St James' Park.
Andoni Iraola replaced Arne Slot after the Dutchman was relieved of his duties at Liverpool at the end of last season, while Matthias Jaissle has the tall task of following Eddie Howe as Newcastle boss.
The Magpies have lost key men Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes in this transfer window, but a new-look team can be sure of raucous backing from the home faithful. Alexander Isak, on his first return to the north east with Liverpool, will likely face a brutal reception, raising the temperature further.

The Washington Redskins changing their name to the Washington Football Team and then ultimately to the Washington Commanders after an 18-month search was the defining moment of the decade for the team according to Rotowire.
Many moments could be considered defining for the Commanders, but the name change is certainly a big one, since it also coincided with the change in ownership. Under new ownership, the Commanders hired general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn, and their first big move in the NFL Draft was to select quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Picking Daniels may actually turn out to be Washington's defining moment of the decade. As a rookie, Daniels took the Commanders to the NFC Championship after playoff victories against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round and the Detroit Lions in the divisional round. Although he ultimately couldn't get Washington to the Super Bowl, it was the farthest the Commanders had reached in the playoffs since they won the Super Bowl in 1991.
Last season was a different story for Daniels and the Commanders. He missed most of the season due to various injuries, and even in the games he did play, he won only two. This year is supposed to be a rebound for Quinn, Daniels, and the rest of Washington's team.
The name change was certainly a defining moment for the future of the Washington Commanders, but bringing in head coach Dan Quinn and drafting Jayden Daniels are also proving to be defining moments in this franchise's trajectory and how competitive it will be for years to come.

Deion Sanders was recently deposed as part of a federal lawsuit accusing the Colorado football coach of defrauding the graphic designer who created his "Prime" logo.
In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Nebraska, Omaha–based graphic designer Alan Tipp alleges that Sanders and his representatives fraudulently induced him into signing away his rights to a pair of logos he first created for the Hall of Fame cornerback in 2011. The two logos—stylized text of the words "Prime" and "Truth"—have since become staples of Sanders's branding during his tenures as the head coach at Jackson State and Colorado.
According to the complaint, Sanders began using the logos around the same time he co-founded Prime Prep Academy in 2011. The design has also appeared in a wide range of commercial partnerships tied to Sanders, the lawsuit says, including Under Armour, Gillette, Jeep, Lamborghini, Aflac, Boost Mobile, and Motorola.
While Tipp initially filed the lawsuit in January 2025, the case's docket was updated on July 30, 2026, to reflect that Sanders was scheduled to be deposed. Front Office Sports has since confirmed that deposition has already taken place. Sanders, merchandise company Prime Time Enterprises, and talent/brand management firm SMAC Entertainment are all listed as defendants in the suit.
Tipp alleges he was approached by Sanders's brand manager and a SMAC Entertainment representative, Sam Morini, shortly after Colorado hired the former Cowboys star in December 2022. According to the claim, Morini sought to have Tipp sign all past, present, and future rights to the logos over to Sanders, who had just been hired by Colorado.

Sports used to be so simple. College and the Olympics were amateur sports; the rest was professional. While everyone might have an opinion about what is "right" and what is "wrong," in the end, each sport, league, or institution will set its own rules based on what it is legally allowed to do.
For the Cleveland Browns, a legal ruling on Wednesday seemed to put TE Dae'Quan Wright on the path toward returning to Ole Miss.
Wright was added in free agency on August 11th, but had been absent for the last few days of training camp. On Thursday, while the Browns hosted the Buffalo Bills in a joint practice, Wright submitted his name to the NCAA's transfer portal. Cleveland made a move at tight end on Thursday as well, but Wright remains a part of the team's 90-man roster at this point.
On Friday, Wright's path to return to college hit at least a speed ****** p, perhaps a wall, as Wednesday's ruling was placed on hold (in Jared's layman's terms):
Given that the Browns have kept Wright on their roster, despite a need at tight end, it seems they are hopeful for his return to practice soon. Friday's ruling may allow for that and give him a week of practice and the third preseason game to stake a claim to a 53-man roster spot.

Reds center fielder Dane Myers had played 82 games in the outfield this season without making an error for Cincinnati. That changed on Thursday at the absolute worst time.
With the Reds up a run on the Cardinals and two outs in the ninth, JJ Wetherholt hit a seemingly harmless fly ball to left field that should have ended the game. Yet, left fielder TJ Friedl — a regular center fielder — was battling the sun. And Myers came running in to call off Friedl.
That was when everything unraveled.
After calling off Friedl, Myers reached for the ball only to have it deflect off his glove. Notice that Myers had his sunglasses on top of his hat, which probably didn't help matters. Two runs scored on the error, and the Cardinals ended up piling on for a six-run ninth.
Despite the demoralizing error and the sudden five-run hole, the Reds did make a rally in the bottom half of the ninth. But the Cardinals held on to win, 10-5.

Pittsburgh — Hao-Yu Lee warned him.
Five years ago, former big-leaguer Yu Chang visited a Nike camp in Taiwan that Lee participated in. Chang, until Monday, held the record for most hits in a season by a Taiwanese playing in the big leagues.
"I always told him, five years after this, I will come see you," Lee said, smiling.
Five years later, Lee, on a night where he reached base five times, whacked his 55th hit of his rookie season Monday in the Tigers' 8-5 win. One better than Chang's national record.
"My bad," Lee said, laughing.

The Washington Huskies have a lot of promising talent at wide receiver heading into the 2026 season, but the majority of it is unproven, including sophomore Chris Lawson.
After the former four-star recruit's career on Montlake got off to a hot start in the spring of 2025, injuries limited him in the fall, which led to him playing in eight games and tallying 10 catches for 110 yards in his debut campaign before he was sidelined for about half of the workouts in the spring of 2026. Now, fully healthy, Lawson has been making his mark left and right during fall camp.
During Saturday's scrimmage, Lawson compiled 5 catches for an estimated 90 yards, including an impressive 40-yard reception downfield from sophomore Treston Kini McMillan. While working against freshman cornerback Elijah Durr, he made a mid-air adjustment on a slightly underthrown pass to go up and over the defensive back to haul in the pass, as he has become a consistent contributor for the Huskies over the last few days of practice, which has caught the eye of coach Jedd Fisch.
"Chris is getting better and better. It's really making the competition at receiver is really becoming better than it's ever been, also, because you've got Chris, then you've got, and (Dezmen) Roebuck, you've got Rashid playing at a high level, and Christian (Moss), then you got Trez (Davis), and then Mason (James) makes some plays, messing a nice little catch down there, and a couple other plays," Fisch said of his depth of the position on Saturday.
As Washington's young talent continues to shine at the position, even with four-star freshman Jordan Clay sidelined with an injury, Lawson's versatility has continued to set him apart.
