The villainous nature of Lane Kiffin is well documented. After leaving the Rebels last season before the playoffs, he allegedly left his dog behind while also trying to bring Ole Miss players to LSU. After all that, he tried to bring in players who were on NFL rosters in the offseason, and LSU ended up being sued. Now, Kiffin is returning to Ole Miss for a Week 3 game, looking for revenge.
As the game between Ole Miss and LSU approaches, Rebels head coach Pete Golding is summing up what it is like to welcome Kiffin back to town, per Trey Wallace.
"To me, it's like high school homecoming for these dudes. Like, if you focus on the wrong s**t, that homecoming dance ain't very fun after you get your **** beat on a Friday night. So we got to make sure we're doing everything right throughout the week to get the outcome that we want," Golding said.

The Tigers' seventh-year coach shared his thoughts on the video following his team's 38-21 victory over the Jayhawks at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Friday, Sept. 11 in Lawrence, Kansas. Missouri's victory marked the Tigers' fifth straight win in the rivalry series.

The San Francisco 49ers beat the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday night to improve to 1-0 on the season, but during the game, they lost a key player who caught five touchdowns last year.
In the second quarter, 49ers tight end Jake Tonges suffered a knee injury, and trainers had to cart him back to the locker room. While he was questionable to return, he didn't play another snap in the victory.
After the game, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't have the best injury update.
"It wasn't good," Shanahan said. "It's not ACL. It's MCL, I believe. But there are some issues with it that we gotta see how it is. There's a little more information to it, but we don't know yet."
With George Kittle easing back into action after returning quickly from a torn Achilles, the 49ers might have to rely on him more going forward. They also have Luke Farrell on the 53-man roster and both Brayden Willis and Khalil ****** ins on the practice squad at the position.

The Wisconsin Badgers fell short 41-13 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a competitive first game of the season at Lambeau Field, inspiring confidence for 2026 while showing the key areas of improvement needed.
The Badgers kept Notre Dame in check through the first 30 minutes, trailing 13-10 at halftime, and continued to fight throughout the game, although an early third-quarter stretch from the Fighting Irish was the leading force to them winning the game.
Wisconsin started with the ball, but had a quick three-and-out, as they were stuffed on first down and couldn't recover. The defense had a strong opening drive, though, as the run defense started off on a good note and Sebastian Cheeks got home on a strip sack on Notre Dame's first third down, but the Fighting Irish recovered.
Wisconsin blocked the punt, getting field position in plus territory, and that led to the first points of the game. Wisconsin had a nice Abu Sama III run on 3rd & 6 with good blocking and got to the red zone, where they eventually settled for a field goal.
Notre Dame overcame tough field position on its next drive, converting a fourth down, while finding a hole in Wisconsin's off coverage to the field side with a couple of short passes. They eventually got into field goal range and drilled a 52-yarder to tie the game up there after the defense got a stop.

On Feb 19, 2027, all 30 MLB teams will take their respective fields in Arizona and Florida for the first day of spring training, the league said.
From MLB press release today: "Major League Baseball today announced that 2027 Spring Training will officially begin on Friday, February 19th with all 30 Clubs in action across Arizona’s Cactus League and Florida’s Grapefruit League." I call that Labor Optimism!
Ten days prior to that, teams are allowed to begin spring training workouts, per the league's announcement.

CINCINNATI (AP) — The NCAA has cleared the University of Cincinnati of any wrongdoing in its investigation of former quarterback Brendan Sorsby.
Sorsby played the 2024 and '25 seasons for the Bearcats before transferring to Texas Tech. He was ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA in April after he placed thousands of impermissible sports bets over the past four years at Indiana and Cincinnati.
"Earlier this summer, NCAA enforcement staff completed an inquiry into a former Cincinnati student-athlete's prohibited betting activity during his time at the university. The inquiry is now closed and the student-athlete was found to have committed a Level III violation," Cincinnati senior **** ociate athletic director for communications Zach Stipe said in a statement. "Cincinnati worked closely with the NCAA throughout the process, which began when the initial reports of impermissible sports wagering began."
The Cincinnati Enquirer was the first to report on the university being cleared.
The NCAA sent an official letter of inquiry to the school regarding Sorsby in early July. That came after Sorsby's agent, Ron Slavin, said during a radio interview in Dallas that Cincinnati was aware of Sorsby's gambling.

It wasn't as smooth sailing as they maybe would have liked, but in the end, Provo got the win over Mountain View in four sets 25-17, 25-26, 26-28, and 25-19 Tuesday night.
Provo has made easy work of its opponents so far this season coming into its game against Mountain View. Prior to this matchup, Provo had yet to drop a single set, and it looked like the Bulldogs were on their way once again to a quick, sweeping victory.
Looking in complete control after the first two sets, Provo showed some vulnerability in the 3rd set, giving Mountain View a window of hope that it took advantage of.
Provo bounced back quite nicely after dropping its first set of season and had no problem seeing the match out.
"They were calm and composed in the 4th and did a really good job. We have really good leadership on our team. A lot of really good seniors, and so, yeah, we just need to take care of business on our side," said Provo head coach Stefanie Magalei.

The NHL has its first $20 million man. Friday, the Avalanche announced an eight-year, $163.2 million contract extension with Cale Makar. The average annual value comes in at $20.4 million, handing the 27-year-old star defenseman the highest AAV in league history. It's just below the league maximum at $20.8M, and the total contract is the largest in NHL history.
Makar's landmark contract comes just a month after Sharks center Macklin Celebrini set a new high-water mark at $18.8 million AAV as part of a five-year, $94 million deal. Though bigger, Makar's deal similarly contains eye-popping signing bonuses: In the final year, at age 36, Makar will be guaranteed a whopping $18.8 million.
The highest NHL AAV has now been smashed four times throughout the past year—and three times this summer alone.
In September 2025, Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov signed a then-record $136 million, eight-year extension at $17 million AAV—resetting the market for the league's stars. In June, offer-sheet drama surrounding Leo Carlsson pushed the Ducks to sign the center to an $18 million AAV deal. But in July, Celebrini agreed to his deal, and Makar knocked him off less than a month later.
Makar is the only defenseman of the four. Along with setting a new high bar in the sport, his deal also ratchets up the market for the NHL's other top defensemen, whose new contracts are imminent: particularly Quinn Hughes, who was moved to Minnesota in a blockbuster trade last season; and Matthew Schaefer of the Islanders, who is coming off of a Calder Trophy–winning season during which he banked rookie records.

India have won seven of the nine Women's Asia Cup editions played so far, across ODI and T20I formats, making them the most successful team in the history of the tournament.

Given the historic dominance of the Indian team in the tournament, former India cricketer and ex-women's team coach WV Raman believes anything less than a **** le in the upcoming 2026 Women's Asia Cup would be a "major disappointment" for Harmanpreet Kaur's team.

"Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be tough competition for India, and let's not also discount Thailand, because they've shown a lot of enthusiasm, they've shown they've got some real good talent there, and you cannot take them lightly, too. As far as the Indian team is concerned, I think anything less than a victory will be seen as a major disappointment," Raman said in an exclusive interview with TimesofIndia.com, organised by Sony Sports Network.

India lost the 2024 Women's Asia Cup final to Chamari Athapaththu's Sri Lanka by eight wickets in Dambulla, and Raman said "India can regain the Asia Cup" in Dubai.

However, the road ahead is not as smooth for India as it seems. India have been missing two of their pace-bowling all-rounders, Amanjot Kaur and Kashvee Gautam, for over five months, and just before the Asia Cup they faced another setback as Jemimah Rodrigues was also ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.
Pratika Rawal has received her maiden India T20I call-up as Jemimah was ruled out of the tournament, and is expected to walk straight into the playing XI when India face Thailand on Sunday. However, the bigger question is where the right-handed batter fits into India's batting order.

"Pratika Rawal has done extremely well in Test cricket. She's done well in ODIs, but in T20s, we haven't seen much of her so far. And also the other thing that they need to work out is her slot in the batting order. So where does she bat is something they've got to try and work out," former women's team coach Raman said.

Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana will most likely not be separated as an opening pair, and Bharti Fulmali and Richa Ghosh could play the role of lower-order enforcers. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur bats at four when Jemimah plays at three in T20Is; however, Raman argued that Kaur should instead bat at three in the Asia Cup.
"I doubt if they will have Pratika Rawal at number three. I would rather imagine that Harmanpreet Kaur herself might bat at number three because she needs to spend a lot of time there at the crease, have more overs at her disposal to try and pace the innings," WV Raman said in an interview with TimesofIndia.com, adding, "Will India play Pratika at number four is something that will be a big question. As I see it, they need to obviously find ways and methods to use the 20 overs allotted to them in the most productive manner possible. So it's up to them to try and see."

Sunil Narine added another landmark to an extraordinary T20 career on Thursday, becoming only the second bowler in the history of the format to reach 650 wickets.

The Trinbago Knight Riders spinner achieved the feat during their Caribbean Premier League 2026 clash against Saint Lucia Kings at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba. Playing his 611th T20 match, Narine needed just one wicket to enter the exclusive club and duly delivered, finishing with figures of 1/27 from his four overs.

The milestone wicket arrived in the sixth ball of the 12th over of Saint Lucia Kings' innings. Narine trapped West Indies batter John Campbell lbw to take his career tally to 650 wickets.

Only Afghanistan's Rashid Khan had previously reached the mark. Rashid has 736 wickets from 547 T20 matches and is set to travel to India next month for a three-match T20I series in New Delhi against the three-time T20 World Cup winners.

Narine and Rashid have established a significant gap over the next names on the list. Dwayne Bravo is third with 631 wickets, followed by Imran Tahir on 582.

The latest milestone adds to Narine's remarkable record in the CPL. He is the competition's leading wicket-taker with 137 dismissals, two ahead of Tahir's 135.

His numbers in the IPL are equally impressive. Since making his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012, Narine has represented the franchise in 202 matches and taken 207 wickets. He is the only overseas player in IPL history to cross 200 wickets and also holds the record for the most wickets by a player for a single team in the competition.

What makes Narine's longevity even more striking is his economy rate. At a time when 200-plus totals have become increasingly common in the IPL, the mystery spinner has continued to keep scoring under control. He has maintained an economy rate of 6.79 throughout IPL seasons, while in IPL 2026 he took 15 wickets at an outstanding economy of 6.65.

Arizona football is just about finished with training camp, and most eyes are turning towards the season opener against NAU on September 5. For the Wildcats offense, most things are ready to go and Seth Doege is feeling confident heading into year two.
Of course, it helps when you have a returning Heisman candidate quarterback in Noah Fifita, but the pieces around him are looking the part. From the veterans to the young guys, almost every position group on offense has good depth.
However, it is always nice to have emergency plans if things were to take a turn for the worse, and it's even better when you have complete confidence in those who would have to step up if called into action.
Doege has that confidence not only in his backups but also has it for the young guys that might not play as much but can still be playmakers.
No one wants to think about the possibility of Fifita having to come out for any reason, but if he does there needs to be a quarterback ready to go. Doege has decided on the guy who will be behind Fifita on the depth chart with sophomore Sawyer Anderson being named the backup quarterback.

Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Juventus striker Jonathan David, with reports from Ekrem Konur suggesting the Italian club could accept £30.07m-£33.74m for the 26-year-old. Manchester United and ***** nal have also been mentioned, but Villa are being presented as the club currently best placed to make a move.
There is one problem with the whole argument, though. Villa's situation has changed dramatically.
Ollie Watkins is no longer the obvious, immovable centre-forward at Villa Park. Al-Hilal are pushing hard for the England international, with Sky Sports reporting that a €45m (£38.5m) offer has already been rejected and negotiations are continuing. That matters a lot.
Morgan Rogers has already left Aston Villa, while Watkins' future is increasingly uncertain after he missed the opening-day defeat by Brighton amid the Saudi interest. So Villa suddenly do need attacking reinforcements, and that makes the David story rather more interesting.

The Phoenix Mercury were officially eliminated from playoff contention after falling 97-87 to the Atlanta Dream on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Mortgage Matchup Center.
Alyssa Thomas posted her third triple-double of the season with 11 points, 16 rebounds and 10 ****** ists, while Kahleah Copper had 38 points.
The Mercury were down by as many as 16 points in the third quarter before outscoring the Dream by 10 points and shooting 59.1% (13-of-22). Copper made all but two of her nine shots and scored 18 of the Mercury's 33 points in the stretch.
"Right now, we're playing for pride, and I think all of us are disappointed with how the year has gone," coach Nate Tibbetts said. "The second half (against Atlanta), you can lay your head down tonight and know that you competed and played with passion and to our standard. You just can't give in, and I thought in the second half, we responded and played in a manner that you can feel good about."
However, the loss came with the sobering reminder of Phoenix's shortcomings in 2026. One season after making the WNBA Finals, the Mercury (13-24) underwhelmed in their follow-up. ESPN's methodology evaluates how well all 32 NFL franchises are set up for sustained success over a three-year window spanning the 2027 through 2029 seasons. An expert panel consisting of ******* ysts Louis Riddick, Aaron Schatz, Ben Solak and Seth Walder rated each team's quarterback situation, non-QB roster makeup, front office, and coaching staff on a 1–100 scale. Those grades were then calculated into a weighted overall score: roster makeup (30%), coaching staff (25%), front office (25%), and quarterback (20%).
The Rams earned an overall score of 85.3, placing them firmly in the elite tier of NFL organizations projected for long-term competitiveness. Los Angeles finished behind the Seattle Seahawks (88.7), Philadelphia Eagles (88.1), Detroit Lions (86.2), and Denver Broncos (85.6).
A major catalyst behind the high rating is head coach Sean McVay's offensive innovation alongside general manager Les Snead's scouting. Solak noted that the Rams are in one of the more unique positions because of Matthew Stafford, but still have the makings of a long-term elite team.

At the end of regulation, Rhyne Howard's 3-point shot to win it missed, then Angel Reese had a point-blank layup attempt miss. Reese was 3 for 13 in the paint after that missed, and she finished with 15 points, 14 rebounds and six **** ists. Allisha Gray had a game-high 32 points.

Dan Campbell does not sound bitter about Terrion Arnold receiving another NFL opportunity.
The former Detroit Lions cornerback has agreed to join the Seattle Seahawks, giving the 2024 first-round pick a fresh start less than two months after Detroit released him. When Campbell was asked Sunday about Arnold landing in Seattle, his answer carried no resentment.
Only disappointment over how everything unfolded.
"Terrion's a good dude," Campbell said. "The whole thing is unfortunate."
Campbell then made his feelings toward Arnold even clearer.

When Kyron Drones committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies out of the transfer portal in December 2022, it was a big deal. A former four-star quarterback from Pearland, Texas, Drones played his first two seasons for Baylor.
He'd then play three seasons for the Hokies, starting 32 of 34 games in which he played before his eligibility expired after last season. After going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, the 6-foot-2, 226-pound Drones signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent. After Green Bay's first preseason game on Thursday, the Packers waived Drones.
In his preseason debut, Drones went 0-for-1 and was sacked three times. After his release, Green Bay will stick with three quarterbacks: starter Jordan Love, Virginia Tech legend and longtime NFL vet Tyrod Taylor and former Ohio State and Syracuse QB Kyle McCord.
Drones is now free to sign with another team.
In his three seasons with the Hokies, Drones completed 480 of 824 passes (58.3%), for 5,566 yards with 44 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Drones also rushed for 1,798 yards and 20 touchdowns during his time in Blacksburg.

The Detroit Tigers welcomed back an old friend and hung tough with a first-place opponent, but couldn't find the go-ahead run they needed.
Despite a strong performance at the plate and on defense by Tigers catcher Eduardo Valencia, they fell 4-3 to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Comerica Park in Detroit.
Tigers starter Troy Melton, the club's best pitcher this season, allowed three runs over 4⅓ innings, marking his shortest start of the season, in a game marked by inconsistency and bad luck with missed defensive plays. It was just the second time this season Melton has allowed at least three earned runs in a game, with his nine hits allowed a career-high for the second-year starter.
The game also featured the first appearance for Chicago catcher Jake Rogers in a White Sox uniform, with the former Tiger getting a standing ovation during his first plate appearance.
The Tigers offense for the second game in a row was paced by a rookie, with Valencia hitting an RBI single in the first inning and a solo home run in the fourth to keep the Tigers in step with the White Sox. Valencia also threw a runner out in the top of the ninth inning and represented the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but struck out looking in his final at-bat.

Steve Borthwick has handed out enhanced England contracts to five new faces as the core of his squad is revealed with a year to go until the Rugby World Cup.
The England head coach is permitted to hand out 25 deals, believed to be worth in excess of £150,000 per year, each season in an agreement that grants him greater control over the group of players.
