Kansas football's Civil War-themed hype video released ahead of Friday's Border War rivalry game against Missouri did not sit well with Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz.
The Tigers' seventh-year coach shared his thoughts on the video following his team's 38-21 victory over the Jayhawks at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Friday, Sept. 11 in Lawrence, Kansas. Missouri's victory marked the Tigers' fifth straight win in the rivalry series.
He went so far as to say he was "embarrassed" for the Jayhawks for posting the video.

No. 23-ranked Missouri football beat Kansas 38-21 on Friday night in its fiercest rival's home stadium, and new starting quarterback Austin Simmons was one of the standout players on the field in his first Power-conference test as the Tigers' field general.
Mizzou (2-0) now has back-to-back Border War wins. It looks a lot like Eli Drinkwitz's offense has found a QB who can elevate the passing game, top.

The Missouri football coach, after a comfortable opening night that saw his team open the 2026 season with a 54-14 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, said that his "only disappointment for the night (was) I didn't get to meet Sheryl Crow," who sang the national anthem before the Thursday night opener in Columbia.
But by the time he left the lectern a little less than 10 minutes later, he'd identified a few more frustrations than just missing out on a meet and greet with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
"We ended up pulling some guys pretty quickly to try to mitigate risk and injury. Very disappointed in the third quarter from an overall intensity standpoint, a coaching standpoint," Drinkwitz said. "It was a perfect night for me to be able to be excited in the first half and really mad in the second half, so I've got a lot of things to coach on."

Missouri Tigers football is just two days away from kicking off its 2026 season, and that means Tiger Talk is also back at Harpo's in Columbia.
Head coach Eli Drinkwitz and team captains Dominick Giudice and Santana Banner sat down with Mike Kelly to talk the team's season opener coming up Thursday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Here's what they had to say about the 135th team in program history:
On the anticipation of the season opener: "Really looking forward to Thursday night: that new north end zone, and just the excitement that's been building for us to be sold out again. And 'Kickoff in CoMo', what a cool tradition that we've developed here at the University of Missouri."
On the weather expected Thursday (projected temp at kickoff is 92 degrees): "Advantage us. We're ready for the weather: our guys have practiced in it, our guys have attacked it. We'll be hydrated. It's football season, it's time to play. And I know fans, you're going to need to make sure you hydrate, take care of yourself, and don't peak too soon with the alcohol. It's going to be a great night; don't let that weather affect you."
On the team's fall camp: "I was very impressed with the way our guys handled themselves throughout camp. I was impressed with how physically demanding we were able to make it on them, while also keeping our guys relatively healthy and pushing us to the point of, I think, being prepared and ready for the opportunity."

While Ahmad Hardy's availability was the story of the day, with the star running back now expected to miss at least Missouri football's season-opening game, Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz said the team is close to returning four players who had fall camp injury concerns.
Drinkwitz, during his Saturday night press conference that followed the team's second scrimmage of the preseason, offered updates on defensive tackle Donta Simpson Jr., tight end Gavin Hoffman, freshman wide receiver Jabari Brady and offensive lineman Braylon Ellison.
All four players appear to either be back in practice or close to a return.

Mizzou's 2026 fall camp has wrapped up. The team finished camp with a scrimmage under the lights at Faurot. Afterwards, head coach Eli Drinkwitz, wide receiver Donovan Olugbode and cornerback Chris Graves Jr. addressed the media.
The players brought different perspectives to the table, Olugbode being a young returner and Graves being a veteran transfer. Regardless of where both of them are in their playing careers, they improved through the fall.
Olugbode pointed to diversifying his skill set as a receiver as an emphasis coming into camp and feels like he achieved this goal.
"My contested catching, my run after the catch ability, getting more explosive after the catch," Olugbode listed as areas of improvement.
Graves' experience showed in his response. He was primarily focused on enhancing areas that he was already great in and gaining a better connection with the secondary.

CBS Sports published its preseason rankings on Wednesday, which ordered all 138 FBS programs ahead of the upcoming college football season. Missouri football checked in as the No. 23 team in the outlet's rankings ahead of the 2026 campaign.
The Tigers also were ranked in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll, where head coach Eli Drinkwitz's team was the last ranked team in the poll at No. 25.
Mizzou, which finished the 2025 campaign ranked No. 34 in CBS Sports' board, will face six other top-25 teams on the outlet's big board, including five opponents who are ranked among the nation's top 12.
