A former No. 9 overall pick from UConn, Kemba Walker put together the strongest career in franchise history to this point. While Walker is famous for wearing the No. 15, he wore the No. 1 during his rookie season with the Charlotte Bobcats. Over his career with the franchise, Walker would play eight seasons in Charlotte, averaging 19.8 points, 5.5 **** ists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 0.4 blocks in 605 appearances.
Following his time with the Hornets, he'd land with the Boston Celtics in a sign-and-trade deal that brought Terry Rozier to Charlotte. After two seasons in Boston, Walker would play a season for the New York Knicks and finish his NBA career after nine games for the Dallas Mavericks. In 12 seasons total, Walker played 750 games while averaging 19.3 points, 5.3 **** ists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.4 blocks. He now works with the Hornets as a player development coach and has opened up "Kemba Walker Sports Academy" in Concord, North Carolina.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders was not in the mood to celebrate a 31-point victory Saturday.
The Buffaloes moved to 2-0 with a 52-21 win over Weber State at Folsom Field. Still, Sanders arrived in the media room focused on the points Colorado left on the field, 13 penalties, special teams mistakes and an offensive performance he felt had another level available.
Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns while accounting for five total scores, and running back Micah Welch became the first Buff to rush for 100 yards in a game since 2022. Sanders praised the playmakers who contributed, though the consistent message after the rout remained the same: make the Buffaloes a team capable of winning and dominating.

The Colorado Buffaloes entered Saturday needing a more confident passing game after a tight opening win at Georgia Tech, and Julian Lewis supplied it before Weber State even had time to settle into the afternoon at Folsom Field.
On Colorado's first offensive snap, Lewis hit DeAndre Moore Jr. for a 66-yard touchdown. A few minutes later, Lewis found Joseph Williams for a 63-yard score, and Colorado had already put Weber State in a position where it needed to chase the game.
From my seat, the biggest development was how quickly Lewis played. The Buffs came out attacking downfield, trusting Lewis to make the reads and allowing the receivers to use their speed against Weber State's coverage.
Colorado's 52-21 win moved the Buffs to 2-0 for the first time since 2023. Lewis completed 17 of 23 passes for a career-high 366 yards, four touchdown passes and no interceptions. He added a 3-yard rushing touchdown before halftime, accounting for five scores before leaving the game with 5:50 remaining in the third quarter.
The 52-point afternoon came with a few defensive concerns, particularly in the secondary, but Colorado showed far more life offensively than it did a week ago. Lewis played like a quarterback who could give this team an explosive passing game, while Micah Welch ended one of the program's longest rushing droughts.

As the Yankees' pitchers and hitters began their respective pregame meetings on Friday afternoon, the daily seminars opened with a twist.
Shown to them was what Aaron Boone called an "outstanding," three-minute video on the significance of Sept. 11, 2001. With Friday marking the 25th commemoration of the terrorist attacks that targeted the World Trade Center, Brett Weber, the Yankees' senior director of advance scouting and replay guru, put the clip together.
The intention was to give the Yankees a quiet moment to reflect before hosting the Subway Series and beating the crosstown-rival Mets, 6-4.
"This is a day that will be remembered forever," Weber said, "and at the end of the day, that was really the message."
Boone also made sure to talk to his players, who recently attended the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and a handful of local firehouses, about the importance of the day. Among other things, he wanted to make sure that they knew how vital baseball became in the aftermath of the tragedy, as the game helped the city and the country heal.

Backup center Ryan Hollins was the fourth player in Charlotte Hornets franchise history to wear the No. 1, doing so for a brief stretch as a member of the Charlotte Bobcats. A former No. 50 overall pick out of UCLA, Hollins played two and a half seasons in Charlotte before being traded along with Matt Carroll to the Dallas Mavericks for DeSagana Diop.
In 105 games for the Bobcats, Hollins averaged 2.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.2 **** ists, 0.2 steals and 0.5 blocks. Following his time in Charlotte, Hollins would go on to play seven more seasons, giving himself an impressive 10-year NBA career. Although he still gets a good chuckle over the mistake that EA Sports' "College Football 27″ made in July when it depicted him as being of a different race, BYU's Cannon DeVries hopes he will now be known more for his plays on the football field than a botched likeness on a video game.
The sophomore defensive back from North Ogden and Weber High made that a possibility last Saturday. DeVries returned two punts for a combined 73 yards and a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in BYU's 63-7 win over Utah Tech.
The big returns helped him earn Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors, but, more importantly, gave him a healthy dose of confidence as he enters his second season in Provo.
"Yeah, it meant a lot. That is something that I had the goal to reach and to get, so to get it the first week was pretty special for me," DeVries said after BYU's practice Wednesday. "As a young kid, I always believed that I could do special things on the field, so being able to go out and do them was definitely a dream come true."
DeVries also got the start in the defensive backfield from his nickel position and recorded a tackle. He was just as thrilled that secondary mates Tre Alexander, Evan Johnson and Matthias Leach recorded interceptions in the opener.

There was little doubt prior to kickoff that BYU's season opener against Utah Tech wasn't going to go exactly as it went. The No. 14-ranked Cougars, a seven-touchdown favorite, overwhelmed the Trailblazers in all phases of the game to win by eight touchdowns, 63-7.
Along the way, there were three key plays that set BYU on a course to quickly turn opening night into a glorified pre-game workout for next week's Big 12 opener against Arizona. Here they are:
Cannon DeVries had dreamed about just such a moment growing up in North Ogden and playing football at Weber High — he wanted to get to LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo and return a kickoff for a touchdown.
Saturday night against Utah Tech — his moment came.
Determined for a return, DeVries fielded the second-half kickoff a couple of steps inside his own end zone. Once he reached the 7-yard line, he veered away from the right side to the left. On the way, he shook off a would-be tackler around the 15.

The Lady Pirates' soccer team got to play in front of the home crowd Monday and Greensburg made it well worth the price of admission.
Greensburg scored six goals in the first half and another three goals in the second half to knock off Knightstown 9-0.
Kadence Rich led the offense with five goals. Maria Scholle was right behind her teammate with four goals.
Scholle dished out three ******* ists in the contest. Rich added a pair of ******* ists. Mackenzie Schwering and Chloe Wentzel both had one ******* ist.

Emily Flynn's highlight strike in the third minute put the Rams on their way to an opening victory over the visiting Huskies at Cimini Stadium in Providence on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Flynn found the top right corner from all of 25 yards and La Salle was razor-sharp from there while playing for the first time this season as defending state champions. Mila Falcone tucked one under the crossbar in the 13th minute and Allie Scott headed home a rebound off a Falcone shot in the 35th as the Rams took complete command before the break.
Scott added her second shortly after halftime to continue what was a strong performance along the left wing for La Salle (1-0-0). Grace Keenan made a sliding left-handed save on Mt. Hope striker Sara Nencka in the 70th minute to preserve the shutout. The Huskies (0-2-0) played without All-Stater and Boston College commit Emma Goglia, who was nursing a minor injury.
Both teams scored in first half on a rain soaked evening at Augeri Field in Westerly, with the Purple's Lucy Weber striking in the first two minutes, and the Bulldogs finding the equalizer at the 30-minute mark.

Sep. 1—ABERDEEN — In a deep field of individual standouts and top teams, the Mitchell High School boys golf team finished tied for 12th on Tuesday at the Hub City Invitational at Lee Park Golf Course.
Mitchell shot 317 as a team, which was the Kernels' second-best team score of the season so far, but it still landed Mitchell well off the pace of the top teams.
Sioux Falls Lincoln and O'Gorman tied with 294 team strokes at the top, as Lincoln won the second tiebreaker because the Patriots' sixth golfer scored better than O'Gorman's. Both teams' fifth golfer shot 74, moving the tiebreaker down to the No. 6 slot on each varsity team.
The individual medalist honors went to Aberdeen Roncalli's Harper Schnabel, who shot 3-under-68 to win the tournament by two strokes. Schnabel had five birdies in the round, including shooting 2-under-par on the course's back nine. Sioux Falls Jefferson's Trevor Rick, Rapid City Stevens' Cole Jansen and Watertown's Max Stemwedel each shot 1-under-70 and Roncalli's Lucas Daggett shot even-par-71 to round out the top-five places.
Mitchell was led by senior Asher Dannenbring, who shot a 4-over-75 on the day, finishing in 25th place in a field of 98 golfers. Kernel freshman Eli Konrad shot a season-best round of 79, and checked in at 48th place. Ian Weber also lowered his season-best score and shot a round of 80, which landed him in 55th place.

The NFL's cutdown day has come and gone — and with it, all 32 teams have their initial 53-man rosters for the 2026 season.
That is far from the end of transactions in the lead-up to the start of the season on Sept. 9 — on Monday, teams can begin to ******* emble their practice squads — but for more than 1,000 players, the reality this weekend was getting news they had been released or waived.
This reality hit a number of players with Utah ties. Over the weekend, 34 players who have played at either a Utah college or high school were cut, and four more were moved to a reserve list.
There were 54 players with Utah ties, though, who found a spot on initial 53-man rosters.
The University of Utah leads the way, with 23 former Utes making an initial 53-man roster. BYU followed with 12, while Utah State has four, Weber State has four, Snow College has three and Southern Utah has two, while 29 of those 54 played high school football in Utah (there is some overlap with those who also played college ball in the Beehive State).

Luke Weber was the model of efficiency and productivity in the football season opener for Durand-Arkansaw.
The senior quarterback passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Panthers downed Spring Valley 36-15 on Friday night at home.
Weber connected with Owen Pichler on a 28-yard TD, found Miles Kralewski for a 16-yard score and then hit Dylan Berger for a 2-yard touchdown.
He also ran for a 12-yard score and passed for a two-point conversion.
Weber finished 10-of-13 passing for 103 yards and the three scores. He added 37 yards rushing and the one TD. Teammate Ian Havens rushed for 129 of Durand-Arkansaw's 263 yards.

Hertha BSC have confirmed the arrival of 20-year-old winger Farid Alfa-Ruprecht from Bayer Leverkusen.
The former Manchester City youngster has joined the German capital club on a season-long loan deal.
"With Farid, we're getting a player who brings plenty of pace and dynamism and feels comfortable on both wings. We're delighted to have convinced him to join Hertha BSC," said Hertha BSC sporting director Benjamin Weber.
Alfa-Ruprecht spent last season on loan at VfL Bochum and is now looking forward to returning to the second tier for another spell.
"For me, it was quickly clear that the move to Berlin was the right step. I'm looking forward to the season with Hertha, I know the league pretty well and will give everything to ensure we experience plenty of great moments together," Alfa-Ruprecht said.

The Knights (65-56) struck first in the second inning. Edgar Quero led off with a double, and Caden Connor drove him in for a quick 1-0 edge. Shane Smith, still lost, flooded the basepaths with traffic in the bottom half and let the RailRiders swipe the lead right back. Jairo Iriarte took over in the third and immediately served up a two-run homer. By the fifth, Tanner McDougal was getting shelled for four unearned runs, and Charlotte was buried, 8-1. Ouch.
Apparently, though, the Knights offense wasn't interested in going quietly. Charlotte finally came alive with three runs in the eighth, highlighted by a two-run bomb from Junior Perez and four walks, before erupting for four more tallies in the ninth. Mario Camilletti delivered the big blow with a bases-clearing double, and Andy Weber added an RBI single to complete the surge and knot things at 8-8. Jaden Woods kept the RailRiders off the board in the ninth to send it to extras, where Rikuu Nishida started at second as the ghost runner. Michael Turner moved him to third with a ground out, and Ryan Galanie brought him home with a sacrifice fly for the 9-8 lead. Garrett Schoenle handled the bottom of the 10th, working around a walk to finish off a remarkable comeback win for the Knights.

On August 6, Nature's Sunshine Products (NASDAQ:NATR) held its second-quarter earnings call, and the numbers told two very different stories at once. Net sales hit $117 million, the strongest second quarter in the company's history. Gross margin climbed to 73.7%, the highest level in over four years. Yet management also cut its full-year sales and profit guidance, pointing to currency swings and a sudden reversal in China. The tension between a record quarter and a lowered forecast defines where this stock stands today.
North America digital sales grew 26% year-over-year in the quarter, and new customers acquired through the digital channel rose by the same amount. Autoship subscriptions made up 36% of website orders, while the newer social commerce channel jumped 177%, with autoship accounting for 60% of that revenue. Management noted that subscription customers carry a lifetime value more than three times higher than other buyers. The digital business overall is on pace to reach $50 million in sales by the end of 2026, just five years after it launched.
Growth outside China held up too. ****** an sales jumped 50%, and the company's Synergy Eagle system, which operates in ****** an, Taiwan and Korea, grew sales 11% with China excluded from the Asia Pacific total. Europe sales rose 4% to $26.7 million. The company also strengthened its leadership bench, naming Ruth Perkins, a finance veteran of Ford, Estee Lauder and PepsiCo, as CFO effective September 1, and Janine Weber, who helped build Rodan + Fields into a $1 billion skin care brand, as President of North America effective August 10.
China sales fell 20% in the quarter, a sharp reversal from growth that had exceeded 30% over the prior year, which management attributed to unspecified operational issues. That slowdown, combined with currency headwinds, pushed the company to lower its full-year net sales guidance to a range of $490 million to $500 million, down from $500 million to $515 million, and to cut its EBITDA guidance to $48 million to $52 million from $50 million to $54 million. SG&A expenses rose to $44.9 million from $43.7 million a year earlier, and management expects that figure to run between $45 million and $47 million for the rest of the year as growth investments ramp up. Volume incentives climbed to 30.6% of net sales from 29.9%.
The company also spent part of the quarter without a permanent CFO after Shane Jones departed in June, and executives acknowledged that the North American direct selling business has been under pressure for some time, with a planned overhaul not arriving until early 2027.

POPLAR GROVE, Ill (WTVO/WQRF) — North Boone football is coming into year two of the Brett Fredrick era. Everyone on the team is continuing to build on what they learned last year.
"I was very proud of that group last year, being our first year together and coming together as the season went along." Said head coach Brett Frederick. "This group is determined to take the next step, to continue to carry on and to take the things they learned from a year ago and from those that were around us that maybe aren't here anymore."
The Vikings lost a handful of players from last season, including quarterback Grady Condon, wide receiver Brad Dahl, and lineman Phillip Davis. North Boone also lost offensive coordinator Chris Weber, as he is now the head coach at Stillman Valley. Leaving a hole that Coach Fredrick and his ****** istants are gladly able to fill.
"Fortunately, the system that we have been using for quite some time." Said Coach Frederick. "I am pretty well versed in it, so I can slide over to the offensive coordinator responsibilities without having to change terminology and scheme entirely."
With a smaller group leaving from North Boone, it means a lot of returning experience for the Vikings, along with a lot of the younger talent stepping into new roles.

The Rochester Red Wings rallied late for a 5-2 victory over the Charlotte Knights on Friday night at ESL Ballpark, scoring twice in the seventh inning to take the lead and adding two insurance runs in the eighth.
Rochester struck first when Seaver King led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left field, his eighth homer of the season. Charlotte answered in the third on an RBI single by Mario Camilletti, then moved ahead 2-1 in the fifth when Andy Weber connected for a solo homer.
The Red Wings broke through in the seventh. Trey Lipscomb and Sam Petersen delivered singles. Liover Peguero, making his Rochester debut, then lined a two-out single to center for his first hit as a Red Wing, driving in both runners and giving Rochester a 3-2 lead.
Rochester added breathing room in the eighth after Phillip Glasser was hit by a pitch and Yohandy Morales doubled. Trey Lipscomb followed with a two-run double to left field, scoring both runners and extending the advantage to 5-2.
Lipscomb paced the Red Wings offense by going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. King finished 2-for-4 with a homer, while Peguero drove in two runs and Petersen added a hit and scored a run. Rochester collected eight hits in the win.

Charlotte Knights 8, Rochester Red Wings 6
The Knights (63-52) took the first game of the series in Rochester against the Red Wings (67-46), who have an overall record that leads the International League.
After a streak of three consecutive quality starts by Jonathan Cannon (only three runs on nine hits in 18 innings), the right-handed pitcher returned to earth against Rochester. This time, Cannon allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits in five frames. Despite that, the Knights only trailed by three when Cannon's outing was over. Charlotte scored its three early runs on a single by Michael Turner in the first, a single by Ryan Galanie in the second, and a productive ground out by Turner in the fifth. In the sixth, the Knights trimmed the deficit on a single by Andy Weber to drive in Joey Wiemer, who singled and stole second to open the inning.
The game's biggest hit took place in the seventh. Turner led off the seventh with a single, and Junior Pérez walked to put two on with no outs. Up to the plate stepped Tim Elko, who got a pitch to his liking that he did not miss. Elko blasted a three-run homer to put the Knights ahead, and they did not look back. That was the Knights' only extra-base hit of the game, but it was enough. The bullpen combined to pitch four shutout innings to secure the victory.

It's not that Kelly Poppinga hasn't been a major college defensive coordinator before. It's that he has to produce and follow some pretty good defensive coaches.
Those names hover over his head. They can be haunting and bring lofty expectations.
BYU's recently-minted defensive coordinator, Poppinga, fresh off a successful stint as special teams coordinator for the Cougars, opens the 2026 season replacing Michigan-bound Jay Hill.
By an obvious consensus, Hill was a remarkable defensive coach at BYU. Heck, he was a tremendous head coach at Weber State. Good at recruiting, great at motivation and teaching, and a master strategist and in-game coach, he accepted an invitation to follow his friend Kyle Whittingham to Michigan and work in The Big House.
Poppinga received the call to step up in Hill's stead. This, after he made his mark as co-defensive coordinator with Bronco Mendenhall at Virginia before a short stop at Boise State.

Nashville Sounds 5, Charlotte Knights 3
The Knights (58-50) and Sounds spent most of the night shadowboxing, but it was Nashville who finally landed the knockout punch. José Urquidy kept things quiet until the third, when the Sounds eked out a run. Charlotte's bats, comatose until the fifth, finally woke up with a Ryan Galanie triple — yes, the first hit of the night. Korey Lee's sac fly tied it, but Urquidy served up a leadoff solo shot in the bottom half, and just like that, Nashville ******* ed the lead right back, 2-1.
Charlotte tried to make some noise in the eighth. Andy Weber doubled, Rikuu Nishida nudged him to third on a ground out, and then Austin Hays delivered with a two-run bomb to left, Knights up 3-2. That joy didn't last very long. Mason Adams, who had been scheduled to start before Urquidy got the call, surrendered three runs in the bottom half. The Knights had one last shot in the ninth with the bases loaded and one out after three consecutive walks. Weber then rolled into a soul-crushing double play.

The month of July is in it's final day, and the start of the Kentucky football season is just 36 days away. As we count down the days until game one against Youngstown State, we're also getting to know the players on the roster. Today, we're taking a look at No. 36, Andrew Weber.
Weber is a 6'0", 175 lb defensive back out of Cincinnati, Ohio. On the football field, he starred for St. Xavier at safety, receiver, and as a punt returner. He also baseball and basketball where he excelled as well. He wasn't heavily recruited, but he did have offers from South Carolina and Army. He chose to head to Lexington, though.
As a freshman, Weber proved to be a star in the classroom as well as a terrific athlete. He made the Dean's list and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. He was on the Dean's list once again last season while continuing to practice and staying ready with the football team.

Utah and Brigham Young are the flagship universities in the Beehive State. Most of the success in college athletics comes from those two schools. However, there are five other institutions in the state that play in Division I that are worthy of attention.
Yes, the exercise of recognizing the 10 greatest college athletes who played in Utah is going to focus on the Utes and Cougars, who both have taken a circuitous patch to eventually reach their current membership in the Big 12 Conference. The Cougars boast a Heisman Trophy winner and several other well-known quarterbacks. The Utes have their own notable success in multiple sports.

But the list is also going to include some other standouts who didn't play on the biggest stage in the state. Utah State and Weber State respectively produced a Pro Football Hall of Famer who also gained notoriety outside the sporting world and a future Basketball Hall of Famer.
The only Heisman Trophy winner from one of Utah's schools, Detmer was one of the most prolific passers in college football history. He threw for 15,031 yards and 121 touchdowns while setting 59 NCAA records in his time with the Cougars. His biggest moment from the 1990 season came against No. 1 Miami when he passed for 406 yards in an upset of the Hurricanes that kick-started his Heisman run.

In a surprise development on the first day of the U.S. track and field championships, Kenneth Rooks, the three-time defending national champion and Olympic silver medalist, did not advance to the finals of the steeplechase at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in New York City.
Rooks finished 11th in his heat and 20th overall, with a time of 8:46.26.
Meanwhile, training partners James Corrigan and Dan Michalski both advanced to the finals. Michalski was fifth overall with a time of 8:24.89, and Corrigan, a 2024 Olympian, was 13th overall, at 8:32.20. Former Weber State athlete Peter Visser also failed to advance despite running a personal record of 8:35.09.
In other developments for local athletes on the first day of competition, Jaslyn Gardner, a former BYU athlete, and Paje Rasmussen, the BYU school record holder in the 100 and 200, both advanced to the finals of the 100-meter dash.
Carlee Hansen, who just completed her senior year at BYU and trains under BYU head coach Ed Eyestone, advanced to the finals of the 1,500-meter run by finishing sixth overall with a personal-record time of 4:04.54. Sadie Sargent, a former BYU athlete, failed to qualify.

Jul. 23—MENNO, S.D. — Parkston Post 194 punched its ticket to the Class B American Legion state tournament for the third consecutive season after defeating Platte/Geddes Post 115 by a score of 6-2 in the Region 4B championship game on Thursday.
With the victory, Parkston went a perfect 3-0 in the regional tournament and advanced to the state tournament scheduled for July 31 through Aug. 4 in Madison.
Parkston wasted little time taking the lead, scoring in the top of the first inning when Grady Bowar delivered an RBI single that plated Mason Jervik for a 1-0 advantage. Platte/Geddes answered in the bottom of the second, pushing across a run to even the game at 1-1.
Post 194 regained the lead with a run in the third inning before breaking the game open in the fifth. Parkston scored three times in the frame to build a comfortable 5-1 cushion and put the WhiteCaps on their heels. P/G scratched across its final run in the bottom of the sixth to trim the deficit, but Parkston responded in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to right field for an insurance run and a 6-2 lead.
Kash Neugebauer turned in a strong outing on the mound, pitching six innings while allowing just three hits and two runs. Johnny Weber took over in relief and retired the side in the seventh to secure the regional championship and send Parkston back to the state tournament.

Welcome to the dog days of summer.
With the whirlwind of June official visits, camps, and commitment flips behind us, things have started to slow down on the recruiting trail for Penn State. Still, Matt Campbell’s crew has been working behind the scenes enough over the last few weeks to generate some buzz.
Penn State went out of its comfort zone and scooped up three-star offensive lineman Oscar Webersink last week. He’ll fully make the switch to American football and attend high school in Connecticut, where 247Sports already considered him the state’s No. 3 prospect, this fall.
I like this move by Campbell a lot. Webersink is 6-foot-8 and already weighs 290 pounds — an athletic freak by every marker. It might be a long shot that he’ll develop into an NFL-caliber star, but the risk is certainly worth it for Penn State. Every class needs its fair share of lower-rated players with upside, so why not go find them in Sweden?
Four-star Pennsylvania quarterback James Armstrong, who made the call for Penn State in early July, recently went on record with some strong words about his commitment to the Nittany Lions.

Charlotte Knights 8, Norfolk Tides 4
The Knights (52-46) are off to a good start against the Tides (35-61), and they hold a 2-0 series lead. Charlotte picked up 12 hits and drew six walks during a strong performance.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the second, when four of the first five Knights reached base safely. Tim Elko singled, Andy Weber singled, and although Dru Baker popped out, Riley Unroe and Rikuu Nishida drew back-to-back walks. Nishida’s walk forced in the game’s first run, and the Knights led from that point forward. Charlotte was not done that inning, as Everson Pereira drove in a run with a productive ground out, and Austin Hays doubled to make the score 3-0.
In the third, Korey Lee singled before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error. From there, Weber drove Lee in with a double. Two innings later, Weber built on his big day with a solo homer to extend Charlotte’s lead to five. The Knights scored their sixth run on a Riley Unroe solo homer in the fifth, and Tim Elko added the exclamation point with a two-run homer in the eighth.
Knights starter Mason Adams, 26, was on top of his game, only allowing one hit in five innings and keeping the Tides off the board. The bullpen allowed four runs in four innings, but despite a subpar bullpen performance, the Knights comfortably held on.

Charlotte (51-46) had to battle from behind, but a pair of rehabbing big leaguers helped spark the comeback. The Tides grabbed an early 1-0 lead after the dreaded leadoff walk surrendered by David Sandlin came around to score in the first. However, the Knights’ cavalry broke through in the fourth with a three-run frame. Rikuu Nishida worked a free pass before Everson Pereira roped an RBI double. Austin Hays followed by launching a two-run homer to put Charlotte in front for good.
Norfolk tried to creep back in with a pair in the fifth, but Charlotte had a four-run answer. Andy Weber mashed a homer, Nolan Jones drove in another run, and suddenly it was 7-3. The Tides did their best to make it interesting late, nicking Tanner McDougal for one and then squeezing two more out of Garrett Schoenle in the ninth, but the comeback fell a run short. Sandlin, for his part, was stingy with hits but generous with walks, serving up three in four innings and missing out on the win. He fanned two.
