On Sunday night, in the Giants' 28-20 opening-night win over the Dallas Cowboys to start the John Harbaugh era, the nation saw exactly why the Giants targeted Likely.
"Yeah, I kind of was," Harbaugh said after the game when asked if he felt Likely would have such a huge impact so early in the season. "I mean, we paid him a lot. That's what we paid him for and he did it.
"And even after he put the ball on the ground, which I was not happy about, he knows he's going to get that video about three o'clock in the morning this morning with a comment. But he said, he goes, 'You can trust me.' He said, 'You can trust me.' And Skatt said the same thing. He said, 'You can trust me.' And I do trust him."

Los Angeles Dodgers two-time World Series champion Miguel Rojas is set to have an emotional day on Sunday, September 13th, as he plays in what may be his final game for his longtime team.
Rojas has not played this series against the Marlins since they faced two different right-handed pitchers, with Alex Freeland taking all of the looks at second base.
Despite facing yet another righty, Roberts said Rojas will start and get his moment.
"He'll start tomorrow… For that reason. I talked to him about it; he's excited, and I'm excited to have him in there tomorrow," Roberts said.

Ohio State is now 1-0 following an impressive season opener against Ball State last Saturday.
The Buckeyes finished their first game of the season with a rousing 56-3 victory. The dominant win was witnessed by more than just the 100,000-plus fans that filled Ohio Stadium, as Ohio State was also playing host to multiple recruits Saturday as well.
Ryan Day and the coaching staff may already be reaping the rewards of the first win, as the Buckeyes opened up the week being included in multiple top schools lists for some of the nation's top talents.
2028 five-star wide receiver Braylon Clark (Charlotte, NC / Providence Day School) released his top 12 schools Monday, and Ohio State made the cut.
However, as a top 12 implies, Ohio State still has competition in recruiting Clark. LSU, Alabama, Oregon, Tennessee, Miami, Clemson, Texas A&M, Indiana, Texas, South Carolina and USC all also made his top schools.

Jacksonville Beach native Miles Russell seemingly has his singles match and possibly a U.S. draw in the Walker Cup in hand with two holes to play against Connor Graham of Scotland on Sept. 6, at the Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland.
Graham, a junior at Texas Tech and a first-team All-Big 12 player last year, had other ideas.
Graham birdied the last two holes while the 17-year-old Russell, playing in his first Walker Cup, went bogey-par. The ensuing halve opened the door for Josh Hill to beat Russell's doubles partner Tyler Watts 1-up with an up-and-down from a greenside bunker and clinch the Cup for Great Britain/Ireland,13.5-12.5 victory.
The victory ended a five-match winning streak for the Americans. GB/I won seven of the 10 singles matches to rally from a three-point deficit after the Americans swept the morning foursomes.
Had Russell pulled out the victory, the U.S. would have at least retained the Walker Cup with a 13-13 tie. If Watts had won his match, the U.S. would have won outright.

Well, it's safe to say that the new-look Nittany Lions understood the **** ignment. In Matt Campbell's first game as the head coach of the Nittany Lions, he had his squad firing on all cylinders in a commanding 45-0 win over the Marshall Thundering Herd.
Quarterback Rocco Becht looked like the most experienced QB in the FBS, and receiver Koby Howard looked like a revelation with 161 receiving yards. On the defensive side of the ball, new defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn's guys were flying, led by spirited efforts from Tony Rojas and Caleb Bacon.

You remember when Rocco Becht mentioned that he would try to get Koby Howard over 1,000 receiving yards in the year? They got right to it Saturday afternoon with Howard putting on a clinic.
Penn State fans have been begging for a star receiver, and they may finally have one on their hands. With 6 catches and 161 yards, Howard was the leading receiver on the day and flashed his elite skill set, with one of his catches from redshirt freshman QB Alex Manske being one of his highlight catches on the day.

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley met with reporters Thursday (Sept. 3), the last day before everyone takes a three-day break to refresh from training camp and focus on the opener Sept. 11 in Las Vegas.

On D.J. Herman making the transition from linebacker to fullback, and making the team. "He's a smart football player and he was able to pick up the offense fairly quickly." Hafley said Herman is a physical player who can move laterally. "I give him a lot of credit. He worked really hard."
Regarding injuries, Hafley is required to file an injury report to the league on Wednesdays most weeks. The league injury report is then updated on Thursdays and Fridays. "If I don't have to reveal anything, I will wait till the deadline to reveal it."

Bloomington native, former Indiana University standout and 1976 Olympian Jennifer Brinegar has been named the new head swimming coach at Franklin College.
She succeeds Zach Rayce, who departed after two seasons to become the aquatic director and head coach at Indian Creek High School.
"Jennifer Brinegar is one of the most accomplished names in the history of Indiana swimming, and we are thrilled to welcome her to Franklin College," Griz athletic director Lance Marshall said in a press release Tuesday, Sept. 1. "Her championship pedigree, years of coaching success and her deep roots in this state's swimming community make her the ideal person to lead our program into its next chapter. Our student-athletes are going to learn from someone who has competed and coached at the highest level, and that's a tremendous opportunity for Griz athletics."
Brinegar attended Bloomington South High School before moving to Louisville, Kentucky to train and find more competition. Girls swimming was not offered as a competitive sport by the IHSAA in 1974-75.
She made the 1976 U.S. Olympic team as a 15-year-old and made the final in the women's 200-meter freestyle while also swimming in a preliminary heat for the gold-medal winning 400 free relay. She went on to win a pair of national championships in 1977, a gold medal in the 400 free relay at the 1978 World Aquatics Championships and a silver in the 800 free at the 1979 Pan American Games.

Tottenham have signed Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on loan until the end of the season.
As part of the agreement, Spurs have the option to turn the 25-year-old Ukraine international's move permanent for £75m.
The move reunites him with Spurs boss Roberto de Zerbi, who was his manager at Shakhtar Donetsk before his move to Chelsea in 2023.
"It's a great feeling and I can't wait to start training and playing for the club," Mudryk said.
"I'm a player who brings speed and creativity, and I want to help in both the offensive and defensive areas. I want to make the fans excited.

For the most part, an NFL practice squad is made up of young players just looking for a chance to keep their dream alive by hopefully doing enough good work to get a shot, either with their team or perhaps another.
However, now that the practice squad has grown to 16 players and can include up to 10 players who have accrued a maximum of two NFL seasons, and a veteran allowance of up to six players who can have an unlimited number of accrued seasons, it's also a valuable resource, almost like how a minor league system feeds the major league roster in baseball.
And those players can be elevated to the 53-man roster and activated for up to three games each, so they do get opportunities to get on tape.
Though the Buffalo Bills have not formally announced their practice squad as of early Monday night, media reports have pieced most of it together. Here are the three most intriguing players who will almost certainly get into games this season.
So far, the Bills have gone outside their organization to sign only two veterans and Dortch may play an immediate role.

The Miami Dolphins have completed their 2026 NFL Preseason schedule with a loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night. The Falcons game, along with their earlier games against the Washington Commanders and New York Giants, and the summer's training camp practices, have given the Dolphins' coaches all the evaluations they need to build the team's roster for this year – and they now have to start making decisions.
The NFL roster cuts deadline is fast approaching. Miami and all 31 other teams must cut from the preseason 90-man roster to the regular-season limit of 53 players over the next couple of days. Roster cuts are due by 6 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, August 30.
After the cuts, practice squad players will sign or re-sign with the team. We will track those on Monday, but each team can carry up to 16 additional reserve and developmental players.
The final 53-man roster is, of course, anything but final. Players will be re-signed, claimed off waivers, or signed as free agents before the season begins on Wednesday, September 9. Even after the regular season kicks off, we will see plenty of roster moves, especially for Miami who will likely churn the bottom of the roster all season long.
The 2026 season is not expected to be a good one for the Dolphins. According to the oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook, Miami has the longest odds to make the playoffs in the AFC at +1500. The New York Jets have the next worst odds at +700. Miami's roster churn will, hopefully, help the Dolphins find players who can grow with the team as they move through this year's rebuild and into the 2027 season and beyond.

It's a testament to Scheffler's quality that two PGA Tour wins in a season is looked upon as fairly underwhelming.
The 30-year-old world number one has recorded an incredible 12 top-5 finishes in 19 starts this season.
Scottie Scheffler is well positioned to win the Tour Championship after two rounds at East Lake, as he heads into the weekend trailing the leaders by just two strokes.
Scheffler's record when trailing by two heading into the weekend is ominous, winning seven out of the last 10 tournaments in that exact scenario.

Former UFC champions Glover Teixeira and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua made weight Friday morning for their boxing match at Spaten Fight Night 3, and Teixeira will have a 10-pound advantage over his opponent.
Teixeira stepped on the scale at 240 pounds, while Rua weighed 230 pounds, both under the 242-pound limit for Saturday's boxing match in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Teixeira vs. Rua will have eight two-minute rounds.
The biggest weight discrepancy, however, was for the judo match between Olympic gold medalist Bia Souza and her opponent Raz Hershko. In a rematch of the 2024 Olympic heavyweight final, Souza weighed 293 pounds, a whopping 33 pounds heavier than Hershko at 260.

Fox bolted a camera to the observation level of the Washington Monument, hung another one off a 70-foot crane, and scattered roughly 90 cameras around the National Mall for what the network billed as the most ambitious live motorsports production it has ever attempted. The payoff arrived Tuesday: the Freedom 250 Grand Prix averaged 3,282,000 viewers, peaking at 3,482,000 between 2:30 and 2:45 p.m. ET. That is the largest audience any NTT INDYCAR SERIES race has pulled outside the Indianapolis 500 since Champ Car and the IRL finally stopped bleeding each other out in 2008.
Congratulations are in order. So is a second look at the arithmetic.
Four days before the green flag, IndyCar published its season-to-date figure through 14 races: 1,731,000 viewers per race, up 16 percent on 2025 and 53 percent on NBC's final season in 2024. After Washington, the same metric through 15 races reads 1,875,000 — up 32 percent and 70 percent respectively.
Read that again. A single Sunday doubled the series' reported year-over-year growth rate. That isn't a rising tide. That's one wave hitting a shallow denominator.

The Brazilian winger, who will wear #17 (which fits nicely with his move to N17), has transferred from Manchester City for a reported £75 million plus £10 million add-ons. It's a hefty fee for a promising talent, but one that is supposedly offset by some transfer shenanigans around a double signing from City, with Omar Marmoush the second player reportedly joining for a lower fee to offset a sell-on clause inserted by Eintracht Frankfurt in his shift to City.
It's a big signing for Spurs. The Lilywhites have been in desperate need of quality in attack, and have arguably over-invested in late-peak players this summer who are unlikely to develop further. Savinho, or Savio, is somebody who is still early in his career and will have the ability to grow and develop in the coming seasons… at least that's the hope. And he's already a pretty decent player!

They have 30 games left (and fortunately enough, no 17-game streaks without a day off.
They are a game and a half back of the last Wild Card spot. And would have to jump two teams to get there. I don't know how many they would need to win to get there. I figure 20-10 would do it pretty easily. 18-12? Likely. Maybe even 17-13. Much worse than that? I don't know.
They have three against the Rangers and three against the Guardians. Winning those series would help.

Running back Nick Chubb, a four-time Pro Bowler who played seven of his eight NFL seasons for the Cleveland Browns, announced his retirement August 21.
Chubb rushed for 506 yards over 15 games for the Houston Texans in 2025. Former Bengals running back Joe Mixon, released by the Texans in March, reportedly told former Bengals teammates he believes his NFL playing career is over.
In December 2024, Chubb missed the NFL Week 16 game against the Bengals at Paycor Stadium after suffering a broken foot during the Browns' Week 15 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In Chubb's absence, former Cincinnati Bearcats standout Jerome Ford rushed for 92 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown in a loss to Cincinnati, adding 39 receiving yards on five catches.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are moving one of their top prospects one step closer to the big leagues.
Pitcher Cam Leiter was promoted from Class-A Ontario to advanced Class-A Great Lakers on Thursday, Aug. 20. Leiter is the nephew of former major league pitchers Al and Mark Leiter. Two of his cousins, Mark Leiter Jr. and Jack Leiter, have already reached the major leagues.
Leiter was the Dodgers' second-round draft pick (65th overall) last year out of Florida State. For someone with such a long family pedigree in professional baseball, the Dodgers had relatively little idea what to expect from Leiter in 2026.

The right-hander didn't pitch at all in 2025, his junior year of college, after undergoing surgery to clean up his shoulder in October 2024.

Hertha BSC have confirmed the arrival of 20-year-old winger Farid Alfa-Ruprecht from Bayer Leverkusen.
The former Manchester City youngster has joined the German capital club on a season-long loan deal.
"With Farid, we're getting a player who brings plenty of pace and dynamism and feels comfortable on both wings. We're delighted to have convinced him to join Hertha BSC," said Hertha BSC sporting director Benjamin Weber.
Alfa-Ruprecht spent last season on loan at VfL Bochum and is now looking forward to returning to the second tier for another spell.
"For me, it was quickly clear that the move to Berlin was the right step. I'm looking forward to the season with Hertha, I know the league pretty well and will give everything to ensure we experience plenty of great moments together," Alfa-Ruprecht said.

Michigan State basketball is in the mix for a point guard in the 2027 recruiting class and has pegged Antonio Pemberton as their main guy.
Pemberton, a 6-foot-1 guard from Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, is ranked as the No. 34 overall player and the No. 6 point guard in the 2027 class. He is a standout for Masters Academy International and has garnered a ton of attention in the collegiate ranks.
Now, according to reports circulating the recruiting world, Pemberton has scheduled his official visits, and Michigan State will be getting one of those visits. He will be headed to East Lansing for grind week, where Spartans of the past come back to East Lansing for a week of practice and get togethers.

When I set out to write an NFL betting piece this weekend, I thought the topic would be the alt win-total market. I was going to explain what binomial distribution is and why it does not properly apply to win-total markets, creating some deviation that is worth exploiting.
However, when I looked at alt win-total markets for every team in both the over and under direction, the price was a ripoff. The books have adjusted those markets, therefore the tricks and tools once used to win can no longer be reasonably good advice. I looked at my own betting log and saw that I've only placed one alt win-total bet over the last three years (and it was in the NBA).
While plenty of alt win-total lines are going to win this season, honing in on the ones where the true probability exceeds the implied probability of the odds felt unreasonable given the prices. In fact, where the edges can be identified, there are probably more advantageous angles to attack with the same premise. So instead of forcing it, I shifted focus to season-long player props. Here are four season-long prop lines I really like.

It's been a will-they-won't-they situation for the Los Angeles Rams and defensive tackle Aaron Donald over the past several weeks as the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year decides whether or not he will unretire from the league and play another season with the Rams. That situation seems to have progressed this week.
This week, Donald had a second "tryout" with the team as he undergoes the process of deciding whether or not he will return for another season in the league. While it's certainly a unique situation, McVay added a bit of clarity this week.
While Donald retired from the league following the 2023 NFL season, he has been considering returning to the team for another season as the Rams are expected to be one of the Super Bowl favorites heading into the 2026 season, especially following the team's addition of two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.
While no decision has been made just yet, Donald worked out with the Rams back on Aug. 5 to see how he felt and whether or not he would be physically able to return.
This week, he took another step in that direction.

Medal ceremonies at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham were postponed on Saturday evening and transport was suspended after a man was arrested on suspicion of fraud, leaving fans and athletes stranded at Alexander Stadium.
Athletes started queuing for official transport at 10.15pm but many did not arrive back at their hotels until 12.45am on Sunday, with some set to compete again on Sunday night.
Britain's triple gold medallist Amy Hunt was among those caught up in the chaos, with her quest for a quartet of European **** les continuing in the mixed 4x100m relay on the final day of the event.
Tournament organisers said transport operations had returned to normal in the early hours of Sunday.

The Minnesota Vikings lost veteran safety Jamal Adams to a significant injury in their 13-10 preseason win over the New York Giants on Aug. 15 at MetLife Stadium. Moreover, the injury to Adams has many wondering whether the Vikings will look to convince Harrison Smith to return.
Smith has yet to decide whether he wants to play this 2026 NFL season, and with Minnesota's safety depth chart taking a major hit, it comes as no surprise that many want the veteran safety to return.
Despite Adams's injury, which sounds season-ending, Judd Zulgad of Purple Daily doesn't believe the Vikings will call Smith to convince him to return, instead letting the veteran take his time.
"I've seen some calls since then on social platforms: Harrison Smith has to come back," Zulgad said on the Aug. 15 edition of "Purple Daily." "Well, keep in mind that is a possibility still. I don't think [the Vikings are] going to call him now and say, 'You have to come back now.' It's my theory that there is something planned out here, and maybe he might not come back, but I don't think that this is going to expedite his decision.
"I don't think he was ever coming to training camp. And I don't think he was ever going to play, of course, in a preseason game. So I don't know that this has a huge impact unless he told them, 'I'm not coming back,' and they signed Jamal Adams."

One of Wilson's first matchups you should be paying attention to is the Bulls' home opener on Saturday, October 24, when they'll be facing Dybantsa and the Washington Wizards.
Wilson's first regular season game will be Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m., when Chicago travels to face the Toronto Raptors. Dybantsa's rookie year begins that same day at 7 p.m., when Washington hosts the new-look Milwaukee Bucks.
Wilson played against the Wizards in Summer League, leading all scorers with 19 points in a 99-87 win, but Dybantsa sat out that game. Later in a postgame interview, Wilson said he'll play any chance he gets, as opposed to resting like his fellow Top-4 picks.
