Manchester City have agreed a €2m (£1.7m) deal to sign Geronimo Rulli to give Gianluigi Donnarumma a new deputy.
City have moved quickly to find a replacement for James Trafford, who joined Leeds for an initial £40m this week.
Rulli, who will sign a two-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, will join from Marseille after two seasons as the French club's regular goalkeeper.
It will be the 34-year-old's second stint on City's books, though he is yet to debut for them after being signed in 2016, loaned to Real Sociedad and then bought by the Spanish club.
Rulli has also had spells at Montpellier and Ajax while he was a Europa League winner with Villarreal, both scoring and saving a penalty in the shootout in the 2021 final against Manchester United.

Bayer Leverkusen have extended the contracts of managing directors Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes. While there's been considerable upheaval on the touchline as of late, continuity in Leverkusen's front office has never been an issue. Coaching stability remains elusive at Germany's red company team. Managerial stability, on the other hand, appears set.
Leverkusen confirmed on Saturday that CEO Carro has signed a new deal through summer 2029, while sporting managing director Rolfes has committed his future through 2031. Shareholders' committee chairman Werner Wenning credited both executives with playing central roles in Bayer's development over recent years, including the club's historic domestic double in 2024.

The news of Ronald Araujo's loan move from FC Barcelona to Liverpool came out of the blue.
The story broke late on Friday night, and the Uruguayan defender will not travel with Barça's squad to the pre-season triangular tournament in Udine, as he prepares to complete his move to the Premier League.
As previously reported, the agreement between Barcelona and Liverpool includes an option to buy at the end of the loan spell if the English giants are satisfied with Araujo's performances.
The value of that clause had not initially been disclosed.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo Liverpool would have to pay €55 million to make the transfer permanent.

Rashid Khan produced a sensational six-wicket haul as Afghanistan thrashed Ireland by 92 runs in the second ODI at Bready Cricket Club on Friday, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
After the opening ODI was abandoned without a toss due to rain, the second game was also delayed by inclement weather and eventually reduced to 47 overs per side. Afghanistan, led by Ibrahim Zadran, posted 299 for 8 before Rashid ripped through Ireland's batting line-up, bowling them out for 207 in 33.4 overs.
Asked to bat first in overcast conditions, Afghanistan initially found it difficult against Ireland's new-ball movement. Mark Adair opened with a maiden, but Jai Moondra struggled to contain Rahmanullah Gurbaz, conceding four boundaries in his first two overs.
Gurbaz briefly took Moondra apart with a six and a four in the left-arm seamer's third over, but the bowler had the last laugh when the opener attempted another big shot and holed out.

Andrew Flintoff has stepped down as head coach of the England Lions, ending his tenure with the national development side less than two years after taking charge.
Flintoff, who began the role in September 2024, played a key role in reshaping the Lions programme and creating an environment aimed at developing England's next generation of players and coaches. His departure comes as he prepares to take up his new role as head coach of Sydney Thunder in Australia's Big Bash League.
The former England all-rounder said he had taken pride in watching young players develop during his time with the Lions but had decided it was time to move on.
"Unfortunately I've made the decision to step away from my role with the Lions. Not only have I enjoyed my time having the opportunity to work with the best young cricketers in the country, but have taken great pride in seeing them develop," Flintoff said in an ECB statement.
"I'd like to thank the coaches and staff for all their passion, tireless work and support they give everyday. In particular, Ed Barney who I've loved working with and was so lucky to have as a performance director, and obviously Rob (Key) for trusting me with one of the most important roles in English cricket."
Flintoff added: "I can't wait to get started with the [Sydney] Thunder later in the year and see where coaching takes me."
Flintoff's appointment marked a significant step in his return to cricket after the serious accident he suffered while filming for the television programme Top Gear.
During his stint with the Lions, the 48-year-old was central to establishing what the ECB described as a "world-class Lions environment", with his work extending beyond the players to coaches at different stages of their careers.
Ed Barney, ECB men's performance director, praised Flintoff's contribution and credited him with transforming the development programme.
"Fred has helped to transform the Lions environment into a programme that has had a major impact on young players. By creating an environment that both supports and pushes excellence at all times he has helped bring forward a new generation of young players," Barney said.
"Coaches have also flourished alongside him, whether early in their coaching journey or with decades of experience, and he has consistently maximised the expertise around the group."
Flintoff had initially been expected to combine his Lions responsibilities with his Sydney Thunder commitments, with the ECB allowing him to miss two four-day matches in South Africa during the winter because of his BBL duties. He has now opted to leave the England role entirely.

The Indiana Fever are doing their best to keep the focus on basketball, following weeks of controversy tied to comments reserve guard Sophie Cunningham made about transgender athletes participating in women's sports. After initially doubling down, Cunningham is now calling for the media to recenter the conversation around the team on basketball.
"There is so much good going on in the WNBA. I think basketball is being played at the highest level it's ever been," Cunningham told WISH-TV News in Indianapolis. "There's just so much distraction. The WNBA media, all we ever do is cover everything except basketball. It's like, what are we doing? You can talk about other things; I think those are great stories. The Tennessee **** ans had a somewhat quiet practice on Thursday ahead of their Friday scrimmage at Nissan Stadium, with the biggest news being the injuries to wide receiver Elic Ayomanor and John Franklin-Myers.
While the lower back issue suffered by Franklin-Myers does not appear to be serious, the team is still evaluating Ayomanor's shoulder. Initial tests showed no stability issues; the training staff is still evaluating it, and an update will likely come Friday.

By now, the mere idea of Jaylen Brown joining the Philadelphia 76ers is well-entrenched. It's been a rough week for the Chicago Bears on the injury front, especially after top safety Coby Bryant suffered a leg injury that's expected to sideline him for extended time. Thursday's padded training camp practice saw four more injuries, including to left tackle Braxton Jones.
Jones, who's the front runner to be the starting left tackle, exited Thursday's practice after a set of 1-on-1s against defensive end Austin Booker. He was "visibly frustrated," according to Adam Hoge, and he tried to walk it off before heading inside with trainer Andre Tucker.
But there's good news. According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, Jones appears to have avoided a significant injury during Thursday's practice.
"The initial belief is that the injury isn't long-term in nature with the base case scenario (after the team gathers more info on the extent) being one where Jones would be considered day to day," Cronin wrote.

He took a shot at Indiana football, saying, "We are here to win championships. If you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana."

Lenni Hameenaho had quite the season for his first campaign in North America in 2025-26. Starting the season in the AHL with the Utica Comets, Hameenaho initially got off to a slow start with no points in his first nine games. He would come on strong after an that initial adjustment period to post 22 points in his next 25 games, earning himself a spot in the NHL for much of the remainder of the Devils' season. His 33 NHL appearances would see him post just eight points (two goals and six ***** ists) while mostly being used in the Bottom Six. The Devils would send Lenni back down for the final push for the Comets to make the postseason; while they came up just short, Hameenaho contibuted four points in those three games.
2025-26 was a good start for a 21 year old rookie; while you might be disappointed in his NHL point totals, keep in mind his deployment, He was typically playing on the fourth line with little to no time on special teams. He wasn't consistently put with teammates who could help him generate offense. He did make a number of mistakes as young players often do, but by the end of the season I would argue Hameenaho was a more complete player in game 33 in New Jersey than he was in game one. This upcoming season will be a good opportunity for him to take another step forward. The only question has to be where in the organization will that be?
For 2026-27, the Devils have added to their forward depth, so much so that if Hameenaho were to be on the NHL roster alongside everyone else listed on PuckPedia, he would be one of 14 forwards. While the Devils carried 14 forwards for a portion of last season, I don't think the argument could be made that all of them belonged at the NHL level. This season, while you could argue their role and deployment, each of the other 13 forwards is at least an NHL player. The Devils are trying to ensure future success, but also want to win now; if there's players better than Lenni, that means 12 other Devils will be on the ice nightly, and at the same time you don't want one of your better prospects sitting in the press box on a nightly or almost nightly basis. So is Hameenaho destined for a full season with Utica?
I think a lot of it is going to depend on how much he's learned from last season and what he has done this summer. If Lenni spent the offseason looking over game footage, furthering his understanding of Sheldon Keefe's system, adding muscle to his frame and continuing to improve his skills, then there's a chance he could leap over a number of the lower tier Devils forwards and work his way onto the opening night roster. If that were the case, then the Devils would probably have to send a goaltender or fringe forward down, but hey, would the Devils really be that much worse without one of Nico Daws/David Rittich or Jesper Boqvist/Nick Bjugstad?

Casey Mize's West Coast tenure may quickly be going south.
The former Detroit Tigers starter was traded to the San Diego Padres on Monday, Aug. 4, in a last-minute deal that cemented the Tigers as deadline-day sellers. The Tigers received praise for the deal, and one start into Mize's time with the Padres, the deal may be looking even better than initially thought.
Mize pitched what he called "the worst start of my career," against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Aug. 6, allowing nine hits and eight earned runs over 3⅓ innings in a 10-4 road loss. His ERA rose from 2.70 to 3.40 after the start.
"Not the first impression I wanted to make for my teammates and for the fans," Mize told reporters after the game. "Pretty tough time to have the worst start of my career. I just put us in a really tough spot, didn't give us a chance to win. So, frustrated and embarrassed by that."
By game score, a metric that measures the quality of an individual start with higher scores indicating better performances, this was indeed Mize's worst start of his career (8).
