FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas baseball has landed its first commitment in the 2026 offseason.
Left-handed pitcher Micah Henson will join the Razorbacks for the 2027 season. Henson confirmed to the Southwest Times Record that he committed to Arkansas after taking a visit earlier this week.
Henson is a rising junior who spent the most recent season at Crowder College. He went 6-2 across 14 starts with a 4.18 ERA for the Roughriders in 2026.
Henson posted huge strikeout numbers with 101 punch outs in 60⅓ innings. His K/9 rate was 15.1.
Henson began his college career at Kansas State. The Missouri native only made three appearances on the mound during his freshman campaign in 2025. Henson allowed two earned runs in 2⅓ innings pitched.

CJ Abrams can make Nationals/Expos history with All-Star nod originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams is having an elite season, so much so that it could earn him his second All-Star nod.
Among qualified shortstops, Abrams is second (.289) to Miami Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez in batting average (.332), first in on-base percentage (.381), slugging percentage (.522), OPS (.933), tied with Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz in home runs (12) and tied for second with De La Cruz in hits (65).
Between Lopez and Abrams, one will be the National League's starting shortstop, but Abrams getting the nod would be historic for the Nationals, who were formerly the Montreal Expos.
Since the Expos founding in 1969, seven shortstops have played in MLB's All-Star Game, including Abrams: Trea Turner (2021), Ian Desmond (2012), Wil Cordero (1994), Hubie Brooks (1986 and 1987), and Cristian Guzmán (2008). Of all of them, none of them were named the starter, but according to MLB.com's Thomas Harrigan, Abrams has the best chance to be the first.

The Washington Commanders had some specific goals during the offseason. Make the defense younger and faster, and find someone to take the pressure off of Terry McLaurin. General manager Adam Peters can check the first one off his list, while the latter is still up in the air.
The Commanders' wide receivers' room includes Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, Antonio Williams, Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane, and Van Jefferson, with McLaurin as the undisputed WR1. The other receivers, though, have been named a position battle to watch during the offseason.
Commanders wide receiver: Treylon Burks vs. Dyami Brown vs. Antonio Williams vs. Luke McCaffrey vs. Jaylin Lane vs. Van Jefferson
Washington has struggled with WR depth behind Terry McLaurin for years now. Last year's solution -- Deebo Samuel -- remains a free agent as the Commanders search for a more dynamic alternative. A free agent or trade (Brandon Aiyuk?) could still fill the spot, but the Commanders need someone to emerge from this smattering of veterans and recent middle-round picks. Williams, the 2026 third-rounder, is the one to watch with his high ceiling and inside/outside versatility.
First, let's address the Brandon Aiyuk situation. Even if the San Francisco 49ers decide to release him, they haven't yet, which means that no other NFL team knows how he is doing physically, or if he's in any kind of game shape. No one will know that until he reports for a physical. On top of not knowing where he stands physically, the 49ers can essentially hold him hostage for however long they see fit, giving him minimal time to prepare with whichever team he lands with.

The upcoming Real Madrid presidential election has taken an unexpected turn after candidate Enrique Riquelme publicly outlined the key pillars of his campaign while directly questioning several aspects of Florentino Perez’s leadership.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Riquelme explained why he decided to enter a race that many observers believe will be extremely difficult to win.
Despite Perez’s long-standing control of the club, the presidential hopeful insists some issues need to be openly discussed, particularly regarding transparency, spending and the future ownership structure of Real Madrid.
“Well, that’s probably exactly why. Twenty years without elections. It’s a project I’ve been working on for a long time, hoping to be able to help Real Madrid whenever it was needed.
“We realise that the club is at risk of being sold—and without any opposition, without a plan.

Jo Adell made history with a trio of home run robberies earlier this year. Now, the Los Angeles Angels right fielder joined Jose Canseco in a most embarrassing fraternity — outfielders who have bounced ***** off their head and over the fence for a home run.
Adell's moment of ignominy occurred Tuesday, June 2 when Colorado Rockies designated hitter TJ Rumfield hit a fly ball to right center field in the top of the fourth inning; Adell seemed poised to catch it easily in stride.
But he apparently lost the ball in Angel Stadium's twilight sky. As he reached to catch it, the ball instead glanced off his glove and bounced off his cap — and over the yellow line signifying a home run.
It was a near carbon-copy of the fly ball Cleveland's Carlos Martinez sent to right field at old Municipal Stadium on May 26, 1993. Canseco, once a decent outfielder but by then a large and stiff specimen addled by years of steroid use, chased it down yet missed it entirely, the ball bonking off his dome and over the wall, a viral video before the phrase even existed.
Adell is no Canseco. He set what's believed to be a modern record by robbing three home runs in a single game on April 5 against Seattle. This time, he simply missed.

The Carolina Hurricanes' quest for the Stanley Cup comes with soaring sales for area bars and restaurants. Many are hosting watch parties and going to great lengths to celebrate the team.
Madre restaurant owner Tyler Helikson helped bring in a 15-foot LED jumbotron in the courtyard of Smoky Hollow.
Roughly 800 people packed into the ***** e for Friday night's game.
"We have benefited tremendously from this event," said Helikson. "Thanks to the Canes' success and the run they've had, I've been overwhelmed by the reaction."
The Mediterranean tapas spot set up a snack bar and is serving up food not typically found on the menu. Staffers have been selling out of those items.

Mexico's football federation has lost its latest appeal against Fifa punishments for an anti-gay chant by fans, just days before the World Cup opens in Mexico City.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) upheld fines totalling 140,000 Swiss francs ($178,000) but lifted a partial stadium closure sanction.
This ruling, part of a decade-long series of disputes between Mexico and Fifa, comes ahead of the men's national team hosting South Africa on 11 June at the iconic Azteca Stadium, a venue where the offensive chant is frequently heard.
The one-word slur, meaning "male prostitute" in Spanish, is typically directed at opposing goalkeepers during goal kicks. It gained notoriety at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and reappeared in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022, despite the federation's educational campaigns and pleas to control the abuse.
The Cas case followed Fifa prosecutions for incidents at 2024 matches against Bolivia, Uruguay, Brazil, and the United States. Anti-discrimination monitors, who will also work for FIFA at the 104 World Cup games across Mexico, the US, and Canada, detected the chant during these fixtures.

Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez is staying away from the team's organized team activities as he seeks a contract extension.
Teammate Marcus Jones explained Gonzalez's stance during Drake Maye's MayeDay Softball Classic. (Gonzalez participated in the event but apparently didn't speak to the media.)
“It’s a day-by-day thing. I’ve been in the situation of learning about how contract negotiations stuff goes about,” Jones said, via Karen Guregian of masslive.com. “At the end of the day, they want what’s best for them, and he wants what’s best for him as well.”
The Patriots exercised the fifth-year option on Gonzalez's contract, which would pay him $18.1 million for the 2027 season. He is scheduled to make $2.259 million in base salary this season.
Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie is at the top of the market at the position with an annual average of $31 million. Gonzalez and Seattle cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who also is seeking an extension, share the same agent.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The marquee outside of Madison Square Garden in December 1949 once promoted the following event, which was happening a couple of days later: “Geo Mikan vs Knicks.”
Not “Minneapolis Lakers vs. Knicks.” Just George Mikan. The NBA's first one-of-a-kind big man.
It feels like history repeating itself now. The NBA Finals start Wednesday, with the San Antonio Spurs facing the Knicks for the ****** le. And the marquee for this series — in San Antonio, in New York, in Paris and countless other points around the globe — may as well say “Wemby vs Knicks.”
Victor Wembanyama keeps stepping onto bigger and bigger stages. The latest version of the NBA's one-of-a-kind big man — a ****** le once held by the likes of Mikan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal — will have all eyes on him in this series, and probably for every game he plays for the rest of his life. He's not “on the way” to superstardom. He's there. And this series is giving him his first chance at putting champion on his resume.
“This is the best basketball on the planet that’s being played right now,” Wembanyama said after San Antonio won Game 7 at Oklahoma City to capture the Western Conference ****** le. “And the crazy thing is ... I want to do that 15, 20 more times. Let’s hope it doesn’t become an addiction. Maybe it is already.”
