The Boston Celtics have reportedly signed Devin Carter to a training camp deal, per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. Carter, 24, will have the opportunity to either earn a spot on Boston's main NBA roster or to join Amari Williams and Dillon Mitchell as one of the Celtics' three two-way talents. Should he sign a two-way deal, he would be expected to spend the majority of the season with the Maine Celtics. Still, it's fair to ******* ume he'd get a chance to impress with the NBA roster at some point, too.
Unfortunately, the decision to sign Carter doesn't come without a potential roster casualty. Milos Uzan has been with the Celtics since signing an Exhibit 10 contract earlier this summer. Uzan instantly impressed when suiting up for the Celtics during Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4 ******* ists per game, shooting 36.8 percent from 3-point range and 38.1 percent from the field.
Following John Tonje's decision to join the Portland Trail Blazers on a two-way deal earlier in the offseason, the path for Uzan to earn the final two-way spot with the Celtics appeared wide open. Sure, he'd have to impress during training camp and beat out Tucker DeVries, but given Boston's need for a depth piece at guard, everything seemed to be lining up.
Now, with Carter also in the mix, Uzan is facing a far tougher battle to prove himself and earn a two-way spot with the Celtics. Uzan is a talented young guard and should have no problem finding a home in the coming months if things do not go his way.
Hopefully, he remains in Maine regardless of whether he gets a two-way deal. After all, he could still work with the Celtics' developmental staff and potentially prove the front office wrong for signing Carter, should that come to pass. Of course, Uzan will likely draw interest from elsewhere if Carter does beat Uzan to the Celtics' final two-way spot, and unfortunately for Uzan, that's just part of trying to make it in the NBA.

It's the middle of September and Pat Kelsey and company are still active in the transfer portal.
LJ Wells, a 6'8 power forward who played the last four seasons at Northern Kentucky, has committed to play for Louisville in 2026-27. Wells is the namesake plaintiff in the ongoing Wells vs. NCAA case in Jefferson County Circuit Court that earned a fifth-year of eligibility for players like Wells, D'Angelo Hutchinson, Jabari Mack, and Missouri hooper Mark Mitchell.
Wells started all 33 games for the Norse last season, posting career-best averages of 15.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He also earned All-Horizon Tournament Team honors after averaging 22.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 ***** ists while helping NKU to the Horizon League semis, where they fell to eventual champion Wright State.
It feels weird to be adding players like this, especially when you can't be 100 percent sure if they're even going to be able to play this winter, but this is a nice depth add at a position where U of L could definitely use some additional depth.

One of the biggest appeals of hiring Mike McDaniel this offseason to coordinate the offense is what it might do for Herbert, who is being lauded as a potential MVP candidate with McDaniel's system attached. Chargers fans caught a glimpse of what that could look like in the preseason game against the Rams when Herbert hit Quentin Johnston for a long-range touchdown. A full game of Herbert operating the McDaniel offense should be a thing of beauty, but both men will need to show that this marriage lives up to the hype in order for Sunday to feel like a success.
McDaniel put up wanted posters for fullback Alec Ingold and running back Keaton Mitchell in the Chargers facility before LA was able to sign both players, in addition to adding tight ends Charlie Kolar and David Njoku. Sunday will be LA's first chance to show why those players in particular make this offense hum - what sort of usage does Ingold see as a fullback? Is Kolar going to be a more well-rounded receiving threat? What does the rotation look like between Kolar, Njoku, and second-year player Oronde Gadsden II? How much will Mitchell eat into Omarion Hampton's touches? The Chargers should be looking for proof of concept in Week 1, and that will come by answering at least a few of those questions and introducing fans to some of their new contributors on offense.
An interior offensive line of left guard Kayode Awosika, rookie second-round pick center Jake Slaughter, and right guard Cole Strange isn't anything to write home about, but McDaniel has made do with seemingly substandard trios on the inside before. Nolen looked like a potential game-wrecker in limited action for Arizona last season and now returns as the cornerstone of a defensive line who will look to take advantage of what has to be LA's greatest weakness on offense. If the Chargers can keep Nolen from making a big impact by sending help towards him and getting the ball out quickly to start the game, they should be able to keep things humming on offense.

Garrett Mitchell hit the Brewers' first grand slam of the season, one of four homers for Milwaukee in a 20-0 rout of the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night that secured a playoff berth that had long been inevitable.
Manager Pat Murphy celebrated with a toast to his players and clubhouse staff. Afterward, the locker room was subdued, because these Brewers (92-56) hope to accomplish much more.
This will be Milwaukee's fourth straight trip to the playoffs and eighth in nine seasons.
"It's not something to take lightly because it's really hard to do," Murphy said. "We want to see how far we can go and how complete this can be. Remember that the message to the team is that we checked off one box, but we've got a lot more to go."

Stallings got the last nine outs for his first save.
Andrew Abbott (6-11) allowed eight runs on nine hits in two innings, his shortest start of the season.

For the eighth time in nine seasons, the Milwaukee Brewers are going to the playoffs.
One of the game's most consistent powers ***** ured its spot in the postseason by flattening the Cincinnati Reds 20-0 Friday, Sept. 11 at Milwaukee's American Family Field. It's highly likely this won't be the final celebration before the Brewers finish the regular season: They hold a 10-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central, with a magic number of three to clinch the division.
Milwaukee blitzed Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott for nine hits and eight runs in the first two innings Friday, scoring six times in the bottom of the second to build an 8-0 lead. Brice Turang hit a three-run homer and Jake Bauers a two-run shot, providing more than enough support for starting pitcher Dustin May.
Then, it got absurd. The Brewers rocked reliever Luis Mey for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth, extending the lead to 17-0. Milwaukee registered eight hits in the fifth, two by Garrett Mitchell, including a grand slam.
Per usual, Milwaukee's proven greater than the sum of its parts. The club has a bona fide ace and budding superstar in right-hander Jacob Misiorowski, what with his 104-mph fastball and major league-leading 236 strikeouts. The club has a reliable No. 2 starter in fellow second-year man Logan Henderson, but its rotation faces question marks after that.

All good things must come to an end, and that was the case when Merced (Calif.) handed top-ranked Central-Phenix City flag football its first loss in nearly four years.
The Red Devils' 20-12 loss to the Bears on Friday, Sept. 11, ended their 62-game winning streak that dates back to November 2022 when they lost to Auburn High School in the state quarterfinals during their first official season.
"If we lose a game or two or three or whatever, the goal is to be challenged in the regular season," head coach Mitchell Holt told USA TODAY Sports ahead of the season. "So, then we get to the postseason, we know what we're made of."
After years of winning, Central finally had the chance to face off against some out-of-state competition. They were just one of just 18 teams selected to play in the inaugural MaxPreps Flag Football Showdown in San Diego from Sept. 11-12 alongside No. 2 JSerra Catholic, No. 3 Newport Harbor, No. 5 Orange Lutheran, No. 15 Sierra Canyon and No. 19 Huntington Beach.

Clark, however, was limited to only 13 games played last year — which happened to be Sophie Cunningham's first season with the Fever. 2026 has given Cunningham an opportunity to see Clark's game on a more consistent basis, and one specific element of Clark's approach has especially impressed the WNBA veteran.
"I will say, yeah, she (Clark) didn't play last year and that was my first time really being on the team and being her teammate, but I really do feel like this year she is using her body so, so well," Cunningham said on her new podcast, No Hesitation with Sophie Cunningham Drew Hanlen. "Like she's strong, she's using the glass. Her jump-shots are going in and it's efficient and it's good for us. But I do think that, like, her body control this year has been huge."
Clark's 22.5 points per game, 45.6 percent field goal percentage and 37.3 three-point percentage all represent career-high marks. She may not win the WNBA MVP Award with players such as A'ja Wilson and her Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell also playing at high levels, but Clark will certainly be in the conversation. She could even be a top three finalist for the first time (Clark finished fourth during her rookie season in 2024).

Sean "Diddy" Combs landed a major win in his defamation case against attorney Ariel Mitchell and her client Courtney Burgess, who claimed to have videos showing the music mogul **** ually **** aulting minors and celebrities at his "freak off" **** parties.
New York federal judge John P. Cronan denied Mitchell's motion to dismiss the lawsuit in a Sept. 4 ruling obtained by USA TODAY, giving Combs the green light to move forward with his $100 million legal action.
Combs first sued Burgess, Mitchell and Nexstar Media for $50 million in January 2025 but amended his complaint seven months later seeking an additional $50 million in damages. In the filing, he accused the lawyer of damaging his reputation by vouching for Burgess' allegations and making allegedly false statements of her own, "including that a police report corroborated an accusation of rape against Combs and that Combs had used drug-laced baby oil to incapacitate his victims."

Diddy secured a significant legal victory in his defamation case against lawyer Ariel Mitchell and her client Courtney Burgess. Burgess made explosive claims about the music mogul, alleging that he had videos showing Diddy ***** ually ***** aulting minors and celebrities.
Mitchell asked the court to dismiss Diddy's lawsuit, but US District Judge John Cronan has declined to do so. The court ruled that her arguments were not strong enough to warrant ending the case. In a September 4 order, the judge stated that claims alleging Diddy ***** ually ***** aulted people and secretly recorded ***** ual partners have "precise meanings that are readily understood," reports TMZ.
Diddy filed the defamation lawsuit on January 22, 2025. The case was brought in a New York federal court and initially sought $50 million in damages. Later, the amount was increased to $100 million. The lawsuit also named NewsNation's parent company, Nexstar Media. Diddy accused them of promoting "outlandish claims" and "baseless speculation." He claimed the statements were designed to satisfy the public's desire for "wild lies."
Mitchell previously spoke to the outlet about the matter, saying, "This is just a pathetic ploy to silence victims and people who stand up for victims. Diddy has time to sue but refuses to accept service for the lawsuits already filed against him. I look forward to countersuing and ensuring the court punishes not only Diddy but also his lawyers who filed this pathetic lawsuit for this frivolous and meritless filing."
Combs is currently serving a 50-month prison sentence after facing charges of ***** trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution. A court hearing to determine the next steps in the case is scheduled for September 17.

Mitchell, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound junior, has 294 yards and six touchdowns on 23 carries for the 1-1 Bears, who are No. 4 in this week's Express-News Power Rankings.
"He's kind of lit up the field and he's very capable and very talented," Brennan coach Steve Basore said. "We knew he was progressing and getting better. He's really started the season with a bang, and I would anticipate him to continue to do some great things and continue on this trend."

A likely third-and-long package would feature Jalen Carter and Moro Ojomo inside, with Nolan Smith Jr. and Jalyx Hunt or Jonathan Greenard rushing from the edges. Jihaad Campbell could join the rush from several alignments. Zack Baun would remain as the primary linebacker because of his coverage ability and understanding of Fangio's scheme.
The secondary could include Riq Woolen and Quinyon Mitchell outside, Cooper DeJean and Michael Carter II inside, and Andrew Mukuba as the deepest safety. Marcus Epps or another pass rusher would claim the final position depending on the distance.
DeJean gives Fangio the ability to disguise the coverage. He can begin near the line of scrimmage before dropping to safety, blitz from the slot, or match a tight end. Carter can cover a traditional slot receiver and allow DeJean to move elsewhere.

The Philadelphia Eagles are less than ten days away from opening up the 2026 regular season, and it wouldn't be shocking to see the defense far ahead of a revamped offensive unit. Vic Fangio's defense is among the NFL's best, and his personnel will change with the situation, making a traditional 11-player depth chart less useful than identifying his primary packages.
Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo should anchor the defensive line, with Ty Robinson and Byron Young rotating heavily enough to receive meaningful snaps. Carter will remain the interior pass-rush centerpiece, while Davis' conditioning should allow him to handle another substantial workload.
Nolan Smith is projected to start on one edge. Jonathan Greenard was acquired to start opposite him, but his uncertain Week 1 availability could push Jalyx Hunt into the opening lineup. Epenesa and Ebiketie provide experienced rotational depth. Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell give the Eagles two linebackers capable of rushing, covering, and defending the run. Trotter should remain involved, particularly in packages that allow Campbell to move toward the line of scrimmage.
Riq Woolen and Quinyon Mitchell project as the outside cornerbacks, with Cooper DeJean operating from the slot. DeJean's versatility also allows Fangio to move him to safety and insert Carter into the nickel role. The depth gives Fangio several options. The primary Week 1 question is whether Philadelphia can generate enough edge pressure if Greenard is unavailable.

CHENNAI: The road to the World Test Championship (WTC) final for India is getting tougher, with every series carrying greater significance. The task has become even more challenging after they failed to win the final Test against Sri Lanka recently.

India's next step takes them to New Zealand for a two-Test series, having not won there in a decade and a half. NZ's premier left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, who is leading Edinburgh Castle Rockers in the ongoing European T20 Premier League (ETPL), told TOI in an exclusive chat that India's pace attack, led by Jasprit ***** rah, will play a major role in the final outcome of the series. How crucial will it be for India to adapt to conditions given only a few players from the current set-up have played Tests in NZ?

The first thing is to try and understand the conditions as quickly as possible. A few players have been there before and done well. In Oct-Nov, the pitches can play differently compared to Feb-March. So, early in the season in New Zealand, the ball might move around a little bit. It is about getting your head around that.

What's your take on India's pace attack?

Bumrah leading the attack and being able to nip and swing the ball will hold the key. (Mohammed) Siraj has done it for a long time as well and (Prasidh) Krishna is obviously bowling well. There is a lot of variety, which is what you need.

Did you have a look at Manav Suthar?

He has been very impressive since he made his debut. He gets nice and tight to the stumps and gets good shape on the ball. He does bowl with good overspin when he needs to and that is the key in NZ, trying to get a bit of bounce especially if there is grass. I think there is still a role for a spinner in NZ, especially in Tests alongside the quicks, whether it is first or second innings when the pitch might be holding up. On days four and five, it could spin a bit. Whether it is Jadeja or Suthar, both are very good options.

What do you think about India's struggles in Test cricket recently?

I think it has always been a challenge. They always play the best teams, and then having to adapt to the conditions quickly is the main thing. But they have got all bases covered.

How important is ETPL for the European players, who don't always get to play a lot of top-quality cricket?

It is perfect for Scottish, Irish and players from Holland. It gives them more exposure and opportunity to play against some good players. We have seen how good they are in their own right. To be fair, in the last few years, we have had some great games against Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands. You throw a few overseas players in, and the tournament (ETPL) is really strong.

There is some great cricket on show already, which is good. And we are only halfway through.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have made some major changes ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season. Of course, the core players are still there, but it does mean that Ajay Mitchell is set for a bigger role. He will play a massive role in the backcourt alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
It is yet to be decided whether he will be the starter alongside SGA, as he will be competing against Cason Wallace for that role. Even if he plays off the bench, Mitchell will be a big part of the Thunder's potential success in the 2026-27 season.
With rotation players like Aaron Wiggins, Isaiah Joe, and Lu Dort all leaving the Thunder, the team needs a boost from the remaining players. Mitchell must play a big role because they need his contributions on both sides of the floor.
He is a decent defender who can fill the Dort void, but he will be mainly relied upon for his offensive contributions. Mitchell is a natural scorer who can create his own opportunities, but he can also set his teammates up with good passes.

Of course, the Nets are not the best team just yet because they have plenty of young players. At the same time, they are still looking for a long-term vision that they want to follow. Brown could help with that, as he is a good example of a modern-day guard.

Kelsey Mitchell received the honor Wednesday after producing one of the best scoring months in WNBA history. The selection sparked an immediate debate among fans who believed Caitlin Clark's combination of scoring and playmaking made her the more deserving choice. Mitchell averaged 28.9 points, 3.1 **** ists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals while shooting an extraordinary 55.6 percent from the field during August.
The Fever announced Mitchell's award on Wednesday.

Kentucky Football fans have essentially become lawyers through Twitter law school over the last few weeks, with Mark Mitchell's ups and downs changing every day, and ultimately, Kentucky got burned by that situation, with Mitchell back at Missouri.
In Wednesday's news, Kentucky fans can get excited about a new court ruling, with Louisville Circuit Judge Brian Edwards ruling in favor of Alex Afari, which gives Afari the eligibility to play one more season at Kentucky.
Afari will now be given a temporary restraining order and will be able to lace up his shoes and play in a Kentucky Wildcat jersey again.
However, not long after this news broke, head coach Will Stein hopped on the SEC coaches' teleconference and said Kentucky still needs to get through some procedures before Afari can play in live games.
"He's been working with us throughout fall camp, so we're waiting for a few more things to be answered," said Stein. "And if those get answered, then we'll proceed."

"We say during practice, we're each other's No.1 enemy," Mitchell said. "Once the cleats come off, the helmets come off, we're best friends. So it's all good."
Mitchell said they've taken turns beating each other in practice.
"He makes me better," Mitchell said. "Iron sharpens iron. He's been keeping me on my toes. I keep him on his toes, and that's kind of how we like it."

Sep. 1—ABERDEEN — In a deep field of individual standouts and top teams, the Mitchell High School boys golf team finished tied for 12th on Tuesday at the Hub City Invitational at Lee Park Golf Course.
Mitchell shot 317 as a team, which was the Kernels' second-best team score of the season so far, but it still landed Mitchell well off the pace of the top teams.
Sioux Falls Lincoln and O'Gorman tied with 294 team strokes at the top, as Lincoln won the second tiebreaker because the Patriots' sixth golfer scored better than O'Gorman's. Both teams' fifth golfer shot 74, moving the tiebreaker down to the No. 6 slot on each varsity team.
The individual medalist honors went to Aberdeen Roncalli's Harper Schnabel, who shot 3-under-68 to win the tournament by two strokes. Schnabel had five birdies in the round, including shooting 2-under-par on the course's back nine. Sioux Falls Jefferson's Trevor Rick, Rapid City Stevens' Cole Jansen and Watertown's Max Stemwedel each shot 1-under-70 and Roncalli's Lucas Daggett shot even-par-71 to round out the top-five places.
Mitchell was led by senior Asher Dannenbring, who shot a 4-over-75 on the day, finishing in 25th place in a field of 98 golfers. Kernel freshman Eli Konrad shot a season-best round of 79, and checked in at 48th place. Ian Weber also lowered his season-best score and shot a round of 80, which landed him in 55th place.

The Cleveland Cavaliers didn't blow up anything after getting swept by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, and I think that was the right call, because this team was already pretty close. Cleveland finished 52-30, ranked sixth in offensive rating at 119.2, and reached its first Conference Finals since 2018, so the answer wasn't starting over, it was finding better pieces around a core that still has the talent to win the East.
The front office basically doubled down on that idea during the summer. Donovan Mitchell signed a four-year, $273.0 million extension, James Harden came back on a three-year, $97.0 million deal after arriving for Darius Garland at the deadline, and the Cavaliers made their biggest outside move by landing Peyton Watson in a five-team sign-and-trade. Max Strus, Dennis Schroder, Dean Wade, and Keon Ellis are among the players gone, while Mario Hezonja also returned to the NBA after several seasons in Europe.
That leaves Cleveland with a very clear bet for 2026-27: The Big Four have to be good enough to carry most of this. There isn't another superstar coming, and they have the pieces to win, because Mitchell averaged almost 28 points last season, Harden can still run an elite offense, Mobley is entering his prime, and Allen remains one of the better centers in the East.
The problem is that we already saw this group hit a wall in the playoffs. Cleveland scored only 107.9 points per game during the postseason, Harden dropped to 19.2 points and 5.5 **** ists while shooting 29.9% from three, and the Knicks beat them by 37 points in Game 4 to finish the sweep.
This season isn't really about proving the Cavaliers are good. We already know about their talent, now they have to prove this Big Four can actually finish the job in a stacked Eastern Conference.

Marnus Labuschagne has been left out of Australia's ODI squad for the upcoming tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa, raising more questions about his future in the national team.

The batter had a poor run during Australia's recent ODI series in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Although he finished the Bangladesh campaign with an unbeaten 55 after being moved down the batting order, it was not enough to secure his place.

With Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh returning, Australia's selectors decided to leave Labuschagne out. His omission could also affect his chances of playing in the upcoming three-Test series against South Africa, especially after his disappointing performances against Bangladesh.

The six ODIs against Zimbabwe and South Africa are important for Australia's preparations for the 2027 World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh in Zimbabwe, while Pat ****** mins will join the team for the South Africa leg. ****** mins and Marsh could share captaincy duties depending on ****** mins' workload.
