ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jung Hoo Lee hit two solo homers and drove in three RBIs and Logan Webb pitched six shutout innings as the San Francisco Giants beat the scuffling Texas Rangers 5-1 on Monday night.
Lee homered in the third and eighth innings and added a sacrifice fly in the ninth as the Giants (48-65) snapped a three-game skid. It was Lee's second multi-homer game in the majors.
Webb (7-7) allowed five hits, all singles, and struck out a season-high eight batters in his 200th major league appearance. His career ERA in five starts against Texas is 1.44.
The Rangers (55-58) have lost a season-high six consecutive games and haven't held a lead in the last 40 innings. They trail first-place Houston by 2 1/2 games in the AL West and are two games out in the wild-card race.

After Shane Bieber's last start, we were a little worried about how tonight would go. Well….he gave up 9 hits and 2 walks in just 5.2 innings but only allowed 1 run. The nice thing to say is he made the pitches when he needed to. The less nice thing to say is that he was lucky. But, either way, he came out of it with a win.
Braydon Fisher got the last out of the sixth and the first two outs of the seventh. He gave up a hit and two walks, but didn't allow anyone to score.
Brendon Little had a terrific night, getting the last out of the seven and pitched a clean eighth. Four outs, and four strikeouts (with a walk, cause it wouldn't be a Little appearance without a walk). That brought his ERA down to 12.00. Little or someone is going to have to step up and be that seventh inning guy (though he was the eighth inning guy tonight).
And Tyler Rogers pitched a clean ninth, getting his third save of the year.

After a wild afternoon of transactions at the MLB trade deadline, there was a baseball game to play in New York and the Cardinals showed up like they had something to prove as they knocked Cam Schlittler, a Cy Young candidate, out of the game after just a few innings and Alec Burleson was a big reason why. The problem is that baseball games still last 9 innings which means the Cardinals bullpen will almost always become a factor for better or worse. Fortunately, the St. Louis bats would save the day.
When is the last time that we've been able to share that the St. Louis Cardinals scored in the first four innings of a game? That happened Monday night and was concurrent with Michael McGreevy having a very positive bounce-back outing (for 4 innings). The result was a Cardinals romp in the Big Apple, but it didn't look like it would go the St. Louis way for awhile.
It started in the top of the 1st inning when JJ Wetherholt drew a leadoff walk. Two batters later, he was able to leisurely cross the plate after Alec Burleson jumped on a Cam Schlittler 97 mph four-seam fastball and deposited it into the short right-field porch in Yankee Stadium giving the Cardinals an immediate 2-0 lead.

Former Auburn baseball star Casey Mize was the center of several discussions ahead of the MLB trade deadline. On Monday, he was finally dealt just before the cut-off time.

In return for Ray, the Giants will receive right-hander Miguel Mendez and shortstop Joniel Hernandez, according to The Athletic's Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal. Mendez was ranked as the Padres' No. 4 prospect by MLB.com and pitching in Double-A. Hernandez, the organization's No. 9 minor-leaguer, is playing for San Diego's Dominican Summer League team.
Moving Ray to the Padres is the third deal the Giants have made before the trade deadline.

If I had a nickel for every time the Royals traded a left-handed starting pitcher that some people felt was better in the bullpen on an expiring deal, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.
It's sad to see Kris Bubic go. I still wonder if the Royals might try to bring him back on a one-year deal to a rapidly depleting pitching staff next year. There were strong rumors that the Royals had a deal worked out to send Bubic to the Angels for Taylor Ward this past offseason when Baltimore convinced them to take Grayson Rodriguez instead. Obviously, his value has diminished with a second straight season derailed by injury. Especially because no one seems to quite understand the nature of the injury. But he's no longer the Royals' problem.
Carlos Duran is a big right-handed reliever that the Dodgers added as a minor league free agent last year. He has struck out 12 batters per 9 innings but also walked nearly 6 per 9 in AAA for them this season. He still has a 3.38 ERA, though. He just turned 25 last week, and while he did make his major league debut last season, he only pitched 1/3 of an inning for the Athletics. You have to wonder if he could serve more as help in the Royals' bullpen this year than a prospect for next season.
Kris's true value seems like it's probably far less than their model indicates since he's currently on the 60-day IL and no one seems to know when he might return. If the Royals can turn Duran into a serviceable reliever, this would seem like a huge win for them.

Today might be the Trade Deadline (and check out Tracker if you haven't already) and it's an off day for our Atlanta Braves but there's still news to discuss outside of all of that. We're a few days into the month of August and now Atlanta's ace hurler has received some recognition for what he did during July.
Chris Sale has been recognized as the National League Pitcher of the Month for July.

Early in the morning, news broke that the Giants had traded All-Star second baseman to the Philadelphia Phillies for right-handed pitching prospect Ramon Marquez. The Giants are also sending right-handed reliever Caleb Kilian to Philadelphia, while getting back right-handed pitching prospect Marty Gair.
The Giants held out for a nice return for Arráez, who is in line to win the National League batting **** le this year, and it seems they got exactly that with Marquez. A 20-year old who signed as an international free agent last year, Marquez has wasted no time becoming one of the top prospects in the Phillies organization. In the most recent Fangraphs rankings, Marquez graded out as the team's No. 3 prospect, and the No. 67 overall prospect in baseball.
Marquez was thoroughly dominant in Low-A this year, posting a 1.86 ERA and a 2.65 FIP in six games, with 47 strikeouts in 29 innings, and just 10 walks. That earned him a promotion to High-A, where he's kept the performance up: in six starts at the level, the righty has a 1.50 ERA, a 1.99 FIP, and 46 strikeouts to nine walks in 30 innings. He has a high quality fastball and slider, but his money pitch is a changeup that grades out as one of the best pitches in Minor League Baseball. He should immediately slot right behind the team's No. 4 pick in last month's draft, Jackson Flora, as the second-best pitching prospect in the system.

After enjoying a wide range of two-start options last week, fantasy baseball managers will need to live with a more moderate list for the current scoring period. Still, there are four serviceable options on this list, depending on a manager's level of risk tolerance. On the hitting side, the Rays are the top source of short-term help, while the Phillies could have some great options for those in shallow leagues.
Sean Manaea, Mets, 15% (@ CLE, @ PIT): Since rejoining the rotation on June 13, Manaea has posted a 3.88 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 43:13 K:BB ratio across nine starts. And his road hasn't been easy, as he has faced clubs that currently hold a playoff spot in seven of those nine outings. The southpaw has thrown six or more innings in three of his past four starts and should have a productive week against the Guardians and Pirates, who rank 27th and 20th, respectively, in OPS vs. lefties.
Ian Seymour, Rays, 40% (@ COL, @ SEA): Although the Rays are keeping him on a short leash, Seymour is showing strong skills (90:28 K:BB ratio). The southpaw's most recent start was a prime example, as he earned a win by following an opener and throwing 4.2 scoreless innings. Although an outing at Coors Field will be challenging, Seymour has pitched well enough to get the benefit of the doubt, especially when his second matchup is a favorable one against a Seattle squad that ranks 29th in OPS vs. lefties.

He would rank slightly higher on this list if not for the unknown factor of how effective he will be in his return from injury.
Brandon Pfaadt, Diamondbacks, 29% (vs. SD, vs. LAD): Since altering his delivery and pitch mix, Pfaadt has finally become a reliable starter. The right-hander has logged a 1.85 ERA and 1.06 WHIP while showing outstanding control skills (4 BB) over six starts since rejoining the rotation on June 30.
