Actress Angelina Jolie's lingering ties to ex-husband Brad Pitt have officially been severed after their youngest children, twins Vivienne and Knox, turned 18—bringing the former couple's custody agreement to an end.
It marks a significant milestone not just for the teenagers, but for their mother, too. Jolie has made no secret of her desire to leave the U.S., something that she said she was unable to do while she was still bound by the custody conditions set in place in the wake of her divorce from Pitt.
"I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as [the twins] are 18, I'll be able to leave," she told The Hollywood Reporter about her reasons for remaining in Los Angeles.
Jolie, 51, went on to reveal her desire to spend more time abroad, particularly in Cambodia, where her eldest son, Maddox, is from, and where she has owned a home for years.
"When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be ... that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here. [After Los Angeles] I'll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I'll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world."

Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the youngest daughter of the A-list actors and former spouses, filed a petition to change her last name in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday, July 20, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.
Jolie and Pitt, who at the height of their Hollywood romance were known as "Brangelina," share six children: Maddox, 24; Pax, 22; Zahara, 21; Shiloh, 20; and 18-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. The 18-year-old, who celebrated her milestone birthday on July 12, filed a petition with the Los Angeles County Superior Court to legally change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
According to court documents, she listed the reason for the major decision as "personal", and a court hearing is scheduled for her petition on November 2. Vivienne has made no secret about distancing herself from her famous father in the past, and chose to drop "Pitt" when her name was listed on the playbill for The Outsiders, which Angelina directed on Broadway in 2024.
The teen is following in her siblings' footsteps with the move, after Shiloh, 20, was the first to legally change her name. Zahara, 21, and Maddox, 24, are currently in the process of dropping "Pitt" from their name, with the former's hearing scheduled for September 28 and the latter's hearing scheduled for September 14.
