Quenton Nelson knows how hard it is to block Jeffery Simmons. When Nelson was a guard for the Colts and Simmons was a defensive tackle for the **** ans, the two played against each other 13 times. And when Nelson got traded to the Seahawks on Tuesday, he thought he was going to get a break from facing Simmons.
That didn't happen. Shortly after Nelson got traded to the Seahawks, Simmons got traded to the Bears. Who play the Seahawks on Monday night, in the first game for both players on their new teams.
Nelson said he considers Simmons one of the best opponents he's faced, and he's ready for a big challenge when the Bears visit Seattle on Monday night.
"He's an amazing football player and competitor. I was like, Man, can't get away from this guy. It'll be another battle against him this week," Nelson said.
Nelson vs. Simmons will be the most-watched offensive lineman vs. defensive lineman battle of this NFL season, as two All-Pros go at it again, now on new teams with Super Bowl aspirations.

The Chicago Bears got the player they wanted. The harder question is what they gave up to get him.
Chicago acquired All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from Tennessee on Thursday, sending the **** ans first-round picks in 2027 and 2028 and a 2027 fourth-round pick. The Bears also received a 2028 fifth-round pick. It is a huge price for a 29-year-old defender, even one capable of changing how opponents block Chicago's front.
Simmons makes the Bears better today. He had 11 sacks last season and has four through seven games this year. ESPN's **** ysis identified the need clearly: Chicago ranked 23rd in pass-rush win rate from its interior defenders before the trade, while Simmons led NFL defensive tackles in that measure. His ability to disrupt both running and passing plays gives Dennis Allen something the defense has lacked up front.
But there are two parts to this trade. One is the impact Simmons can make on Sundays. The other is how Chicago builds around him in the years ahead.

Titans head coach Robert Saleh says his team will not hold a fire sale ahead of the trade deadline. But the offer they got from the Bears for defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons was too good to pass up.
The Bears traded their next two first-round draft picks to the ****** ans for Simmons, and Saleh said that a team in the ****** ans' position couldn't realistically have passed that up.
"No one's shopping any of our guys, but like I told our guys, when you don't close out games, and you're standing here at 1-6, teams are going to start fishing," Saleh said. "And eventually a team threw a hook big enough that I don't think any of us could've said no to."
Saleh said he considers Simmons "by far" the best defensive tackle in the NFL and hates to see him go.
"It's tough. Jeff is an elite football player and he's an even better person," Saleh said. "He's an elite leader. I've been outspoken on that. It sucks. Everything about it sucks. Unfortunately, necessary."

The NFL, the most parity-driven major sports league, feels even more wide open this year. Even the perceived powerhouses entering the season and teams with the best records have flaws that are already being picked at by opponents.
Betting markets and bettors are keeping plenty of teams alive. As of Thursday evening, FanDuel had 11 NFC teams with +164 or shorter odds to make the playoffs, and seven teams with +1100 odds or shorter to win the Super Bowl. Thirteen teams were at +2500 or shorter to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in February.
This open competition leads to opportunity. And opportunity leads to action. Even when the Nov. 10 trade deadline was still a ways away, teams started to address their weaknesses. The Dallas Cowboys added Joey Porter Jr., the Baltimore Ravens nabbed Cam Jurgens. Now with the deadline growing closer, NFL teams have decided to strike. First, Quenton Nelson was shipped off to the Seattle Seahawks from the sinking ship known as the Indianapolis Colts. Soon after, DeForest Buckner returned to the San Francisco 49ers to bolster their defensive front.
Then, on Thursday, the Chicago Bears fired a shot across the bow to the rest of the NFC and NFL, trading two future first-round draft picks and a fourth-rounder to the Tennessee ****** ans for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round selection.
Now that's some real action for a trade deadline!

The Tennessee **** ans are having one of the worst seasons in their history. At 1-6, they're off to their worst start to a season in nearly 20 years. Cam Ward's **** ans have struggled on both offense and defense, and they have been unfortunate with injuries.
Ward has also had a troubling start. He has been criticized for his efficiency and decision-making all season. In seven games, he has thrown for 1,179 passing yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions.
There have been rumors of the **** ans looking to go away from Ward, especially after defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons' trade to the Chicago Bears. But NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the **** ans will continue to back Ward despite a 1-6 start.
Fans reacted to Schefter's comments.
"It will be their ultimate downfall. They are not a QB developing team, or they make bad picks with high draft choices. Vince Young, Jake Locker, Will Levis, now it's Cam Ward!" one fan said.

The Arizona Cardinals have made one trade already. As the trade deadline approaches, many believe they could make at least one other deal.
Outside linebacker Josh Sweat has been the subject of rumors since the offseason. Those rumors are heating up, although it is no more than people speculating fit.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is hearing that rivals see the Cardinals moving Sweat. One source considers the Dallas Cowboys, whom the Cardinals play this weekend, a good fit.
Fowler gives a Sweat trade about 40% odds and notes the Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears as teams to watch.
With the Bears acquiring defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee ******* ans, they likely aren't a possibility now. It seems unlikely the Cardinals would send their best edge rusher to a division rival like the 49ers, so the Cowboys make the most sense.

Ben Simmons was on the way to making his big NBA comeback this season, but injury has crushed those hopes. The former All-Star isn't losing hope, though.
Ben Simmons' career has been a strange one, full of some unexpected twists and turns. The 30-year-old has been an All-Star three times during his younger days, but he was also effectively out of the NBA entirely last season.
There has been a lot of optimistic noise around Simmons this year. The Sacramento Kings signed him and he was supposed to come back at an incredibly high level. Just a few days before the NBA season begins, though, Simmons has suffered another major injury setback.
News reports on Sunday revealed something which anyone who hears about it will find quite cruel. After all the work that Simmons has put in this offseason, a torn Achilles has now ended his season before it even begins. Injury issues have been a big factor in the downfall of his career.
Any other player might just give up in this spot, but it seems Simmons isn't ready to call it just yet. He took to social media to share a message with his followers.

Memphis football and Ole Miss haven't played each other since 2019. And it doesn't sound like they will anytime soon.
"Not currently," Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said on Sept. 14, when asked if there had been any recent discussions about future games with Memphis. "Our schedule is pretty solid for the next few years out. Being regional and being close, it's certainly something that we may look at in the future. But we don't have any plans for that in the immediate future."
The teams have met 63 times, but the last one was a Memphis win at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in 2019. In the past, the Tigers would play at least one power conference team every season. But that has become extremely difficult because of changes across the sport, and they don't have a power conference opponent on the schedule for 2026 or 2027.
Chief among those changes is the SEC's move to nine conference games, which means one less spot to schedule a nonconference opponent.
"It just depends," Carter said. "The way scheduling goes now with nine conference games, you're trying to figure out what this new model is going to look like moving forward. Obviously we've had some games in the past, and could in the future. But not right now and not in the immediate future."

The Kansas City Chiefs have released their list of inactive players for the season opener of "Monday Night Football" against the Denver Broncos.
The Chiefs will play without safety Chamarri Conner (knee), offensive tackles Josh Simmons (back) and Diego Pounds, defensive tackle Bryson Eason, tight end Jared Wiley and defensive end Jack Pyburn. Rookie Garrett Nussmeier has been designated as Kansas City's emergency quarterback — meaning he is only eligible to enter the game should both starter Patrick Mahomes and backup Justin Fields leave with injuries.
This appears to be the first time Kansas City has named an emergency quarterback since the rule was created in 2023.
Kansas City had already ruled Conner and Simmons out on the final injury report. Defensive tackle Chris Jones was held out of the team's final practice with a calf issue, but he was not given an injury game status. As expected, Jones is active for the contest.
On Monday, Kansas City elevated practice squad defensive tackle Marcus Harris and fullback Ben VanSumeren to the active roster. As elevated players, they will automatically be returned to the team's practice squad after the game. Both are active for the contest.

Our inaugural "Team of the Month" poll came down to the wire between a strip-sack touchdown and a toe-tapping deflected catch along the sidelines.
Westwood football's Levon "Trey" Simmons III claimed TC Palm's August "Play of the Month" honors, narrowly edging out Martin County's fumble return touchdown with 55.6 percent of the vote.
On the play, Westwood quarterback Elize Pierre rolled out to his left and attempted to complete a pass to junior running back Najja Martin. The ball bounced off Martin's hands and up into the air after a collision with a Palm Beach Gardens defender.
Simmons swooped into grab the reception and got two feet in bounds before stepping out of play. Westwood went on to defeat Palm Beach Gardens 21-7 on Aug. 24.
You can view the play, as well as the rest of August's "Play of the Month" nominees," in the following video:

According to ESPN, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the 13th-best fantasy quarterback heading into Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.
Mahomes is still recovering from his ACL surgery earlier this year and is expected to struggle early in the season. The six-time Pro Bowler has never been a top fantasy quarterback, but after a disappointing finish to his 2025 campaign, Mahomes has something to prove.
For fantasy managers with the two-time MVP in their lineup this week, here are Mahomes predicted stats against the Denver Broncos on 'Monday Night Football'.
On paper, Mahomes should be at a serious disadvantage in Monday's game. Starting offensive lineman Joshua Simmons is out for an undetermined amount of time with a back injury, which leaves Mahomes' blindside in the hands of rookie offensive lineman Khalil Benson. The former Indiana Hoosier went undrafted in 2026 and has now been thrust into the starting lineup to protect a generational quarterback talent.
That being said, I feel good about Mahomes' ability to produce on Monday. With reigning Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III in the backfield, head coach Andy Reid can open up the playbook and give Mahomes plenty of opportunities.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Orange missed several redzone opportunities, turned the ball over at costly times and committed numerous penalties to undo all of their hard work against the Golden Bears. A game in which the offensive numbers looked far better for Syracuse ended in a Cal 21-18 win when Golden Bears safety Kingston Lopa housed a pick six for the eventual winning score with 4:51 left in the 4th quarter.
Syracuse started the game with the ball, and fireworks showed immediately. Tylik Hill ripped a 55 yard rush on the second play of the game to immediately put the Orange in a goal-to-go situation. Syracuse couldn't convert and settled for a Tripp Woody field goal to open the scoring at 3-0.
Cal set its intentions early by playing in empty sets for much of its first drive. Although the Golden Bears got a first down, impressive pressure from Keyshawn Johnson and Dillan Fontus on 3rd down stalled the first Cal drive before midfield.
Syracuse's second drive saw the return of Justus Ross-Simmons, newly eligible after a long and nervous legal battle. He snagged the first Orange reception of the day, going 22 yards up the right sideline. Shavane Anderson Jr. also started to show that his first week performance wasn't a fluke with a pair of good eight-yard gains to move the chains. The Orange had to punt, however, to end their second drive of the day.
Cal showed more of its pass heavy offense, led by its star quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele. After moving the chains with some good outside passes, JKS finally targeted his top receiver, Ian Strong on a third down play. Syracuse had ****** r Ward instead of Chris Peal covering Strong on this play, but Ward did a great job to force an incompletion and end Cal's second drive.

Early big-time college football matchups are all the rage, and the Philadelphia Eagles will have representatives in Austin for one of the most talent-rich games on the early college football schedule.
Philadelphia is among 16 NFL organizations expected to have scouts present when No. 1 Ohio State visits No. 4 Texas on Saturday night at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. The Eagles will join the Cowboys, Seahawks, 49ers, Broncos, Colts, Patriots, Panthers, Lions, Chargers, Texans, Ravens, Rams, Dolphins, Jets and Browns in evaluating two rosters loaded with potential NFL talent.
Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is expected to become one of the most coveted prospects in the 2027 draft. His matchup against Texas' secondary will give evaluators another opportunity to study his releases, route running, and ability to produce against top competition.
The following NFL teams will have reps present at Ohio State - Texas tonight:

• Eagles
• Cowboys
• Seahawks
• 49ers
• Broncos
• Colts
• Patriots
• Panthers
• Lions
• Chargers
• Texans
• Ravens
• Rams
• Dolphins
• Jets
• Browns
Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin and Texas quarterback Arch Manning will receive plenty of attention, even from organizations without an immediate need at the position. Comprehensive quarterback evaluations remain valuable because their eventual landing spots can influence the entire draft board. Texas edge defender Colin Simmons is another prospect capable of commanding the attention of Philadelphia's personnel department. His ability to pressure the quarterback and defend the run fits the athletic profile the Eagles have consistently valued along the defensive front.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Alcorn State will meet for the second consecutive season in the 37th annual Southern Heritage Classic on Sept. 12 (6 p.m., HBCU Go). The Golden Lions won last season's meeting 24-20 at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
Playing in the Southern Heritage Classic is more than just a conference game for the two foes. Both the Braves (1-1) and Golden Lions (1-1) have alumni bases in Memphis and fans from areas not too far away.
Golden Lions coach Alonzo Hampton and Alcorn State coach Cedric Thomas were celebrated at the annual coaches luncheon inside the Renasant Convention Center on Sept. 11.
Hampton reflected on the team's journey back to this event. This will be UAPB's fourth consecutive appearance after having a 1-2 record through three years.
"It has been amazing," Hampton said. "So we get excited, man. Every year we get a chance to come back. It keeps getting bigger and bigger, and you know you pray for good weather, and hopefully everything works out. But it's fun. I look forward to it. Our players look forward to it. We stay downtown at the Westin, and the band's coming, so it's just really exciting, man, to come back and be able to do this."

Kansas football's Civil War-themed hype video released ahead of Friday's Border War rivalry game against Missouri did not sit well with Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz.
The Tigers' seventh-year coach shared his thoughts on the video following his team's 38-21 victory over the Jayhawks at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Friday, Sept. 11 in Lawrence, Kansas. Missouri's victory marked the Tigers' fifth straight win in the rivalry series.
He went so far as to say he was "embarrassed" for the Jayhawks for posting the video.
Missouri vs Kansas football score: Austin Simmons shines in rivalry game
"I was disappointed in the rivalry, the turn that it took today. I thought that was uncalled for," Drinkwitz said in his postgame news conference. "... I'm just glad that this whole right versus wrong bullcrap that was started just got settled on a football field, because it's a football game.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Austin Simmons threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns, Robert Woodyard Jr. produced back-to-back second-half turnovers to help Missouri take control, and the No. 23 Tigers beat Kansas 38-21 on Friday night in the latest edition of the Border War.
Jamal Roberts ran for 125 yards and a touchdown, and Donovan Olugbode and Cayden Lee caught TD passes, helping the Tigers (2-0) beat their biggest rival for the fifth straight time in their first trip across the state line since Oct. 29, 2005.
It was tied 14-all early in the second half when Woodyard fell on Kansas quarterback Isaiah Marshall's fumble, and Simmons quickly found Olugbode for the go-ahead touchdown. On the Jayhawks' next offensive play, Woodyard faded into the secondary and was there to pick off Marshall's pass, setting up Xai'Shaun Edwards' touchdown run.
Marshall finished with 168 yards passing, two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Jayhawks (1-1), who haven't beaten Missouri since Nov. 29, 2008. The sophomore quarterback also carried 20 times for just 23 yards.
Kansas jumped on the Tigers early, just as it did last season in Columbia, when a series that went on hiatus after the Tigers' departure for the SEC finally resumed after more than a decade. This time around, the Jayhawks capitalized on Missouri miscues: four false start penalties in the first half alone, blown blocking ****** ignments and two blocked field-goal attempts.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Week 1 was no fluke from QB1.
No. 23-ranked Missouri football beat Kansas 38-21 on Friday night in its fiercest rival's home stadium, and new starting quarterback Austin Simmons was one of the standout players on the field in his first Power-conference test as the Tigers' field general.
Mizzou (2-0) now has back-to-back Border War wins. It looks a lot like Eli Drinkwitz's offense has found a QB who can elevate the passing game, top.
Here's what Simmons' Border war statline looked like:
Simmons was 19-of-29 passing (65.5%) for 292 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.

There's no doubt who the biggest star for Texas is right now. Arch Manning is the projected top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, and likely would have been the first pick in April's draft had he declared.
After opening up last season throwing for 170 yards and a touchdown against Ohio State, Manning finished the season with 26 passing touchdowns and 3,163 yards, while adding 10 rushing touchdowns. Manning is one of the favorites to win this year's Heisman Trophy.
The biggest acquisition for Texas in the transfer portal during the offseason was wide receiver Cam Coleman from Auburn. In two seasons with the Tigers, Coleman grabbed 93 passing touchdowns for over 1,300 yards and 13 scores.
In his first game in the burnt orange, Coleman hauled in three passes for 70 yards, finding the end zone twice. The junior is expected to be in the mix for the Biletnikoff Award this season, trying to keep up with Ohio State wideout Jeremiah S,it's in their pursuit for the honor.
Prior to last year's game Simmons provided Ohio State with some bulletin board material when he boasted how eager he was to sack new Buckeye quarterback Julian Sayin.

Draymond Green recently recorded an episode of his podcast, 'The Draymond Green Show,' in which he discussed several league topics, including Ben Simmons' NBA return with the Sacramento Kings.
Simmons signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Kings to make his comeback to basketball after taking a year away from the league. When he last played in the 2024-25 season, he averaged 5.6 ******* ists, 5.0 points, and 4.7 rebounds in 51 games while shooting 52.0% from the floor.
Green recognizes that while Ben Simmons is no longer the same All-Star-caliber player people saw in his prime, his arrival mainly benefits Darius Acuff Jr., the 19-year-old point guard the Kings picked seventh overall in the 2026 NBA Draft.
"Number one, I'm happy to see Ben Simmons back in the NBA. Ben Simmons is a talent that, you know, doesn't grow on trees, and we don't get the opportunity to see in the NBA every day. Ben Simmons got off to a very promising start in his career, and then a lot of people try to blame his game and not his injuries."
"It sucks that when guys get injuries, ultimately people start blaming them as a player, you know, as if you have control over the injuries that happened. And I know Ben Simmons was dealing with a back issue. And I know most people don't understand what that means, but let me tell you, as someone who dealt with a back issue, it's debilitating," Draymond Green said.

It's time to put this Tennessee **** ans rookie class to the test.
Titans rookies played a combined total of 5,397 snaps in 2025. Only the Browns, Jets and Patriots devoted a higher percentage of their total snaps to rookies than the **** ans did. Sure, quarterback Cam Ward being on the field pretty much every offensive down for the entire season boosted that number. But the **** ans have been fairly insistent under GM Mike Borgonzi that the best way to get young players up to speed is to throw them into live action as soon as they're deemed ready.
With that in mind, let's take one last look through the **** ans' Class of 2026 rookies and project how much they'll be used as the **** ans prepare for the start the season on Sept. 13 against the New York Jets at Nissan Stadium (noon CT, CBS).

When Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with a torn ACL, there were panic-stricken takes that he might miss some or most of the 2026 season.
That didn't happen. At every step of Mahomes' recovery he has looked right on track, and it will culminate with him starting on Monday night. He made it back for Week 1, which was within the normal timetable for his injury.
Mahomes should be fine for the opener. But the Chiefs' issues around him persist.
The last thing the Chiefs want to do in Mahomes' first game back, against a very good Denver Broncos defense, is put him in harm's way. But with preferred left tackle Josh Simmons dealing with a back injury and Jaylon Moore, just signed to a two-year, $30 million deal this offseason, staying at right tackle, the Chiefs have had to scramble.
The result is that Mahomes will return and be protected by an undrafted rookie left tackle against a Broncos defense that led the NFL with 68 sacks last season. That's not ideal.

Second-year offensive lineman Josh Simmons was expected to be a key contributor to the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive line this season, but his status for the team's Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos on 'Monday Night Football' is officially in question.
Will Simmons be able to suit up for Kansas City's home opener against Denver on September 14?
Here's the latest update on Simmons' status before the Chiefs' rivalry tilt with the Broncos in Week 1:
According to Chiefs Senior Team Reporter Matt McMullen, Simmons was held out of Kansas City's first practice session for Week 1 on Thursday, September 10.
Earlier this week, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed Simmons is dealing with a back injury and expressed doubt that the former Ohio State Buckeye will take the field against the Broncos.
