Celtic today completed the signing of Danish International striker Kasper Hogh in a record breaking £11 million plus deal from Bodo/Glimt, leaving most of us delighted, but also a bit surprised as none of us, understandably so, had any faith in our hierarchy getting top quality deals over the line.
The striker who also played for Randers, Hobro, Aab, and Stabaek, in his homeland was a previously a player of serious interest in the eyes of Celtic, but unfortunately a deal didn't come to anything, due to a combination of our club's lackadaisical attitude towards recruitment, and Bodo Glimt's reluctance to sell due to their participation in the latter stages of the Champions League.
Hogh is a player of great ability, and it's a real sign of intent from Martin O'Neill, who has shown that he means business going into the forthcoming campaign.
The Danish centre forward is a player of proven quality as his record of 53 goals in 104 appearances for the forward thinking Norwegian side testifies.

So far, Manchester United have signed a back-up goalkeeper, two midfielders and a young forward this summer, but former Red Devils defender Danny Simpson says they need fresh blood in another position.
"Lisandro Martinez is injured, Matthijs de Ligt gets injured a lot and Harry Maguire is 33 now, so I think we could do with a centre-back," Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester.
United currently have a wealth of experience in the centre-back department with Martinez, De Ligt and Maguire, but injuries halted their playing time together last season.
It is not yet known if Martinez will be ruled out of the start of the domestic campaign with the injury he picked up during Argentina's World Cup final defeat by Spain.
De Ligt last featured for United in November 2025 under Ruben Amorim.

The club will hopefully announce Bodø/Glimt striker Kasper Høgh on a multi-million pound deal, after the Bhoys struck a record-breaking £11m transfer fee with the Norwegian side for his services.
News last night, as reported on Celtic Shorts, was that the big centre-forward has completed a successful medical in London ahead of the club confirming his signing on a four-year deal later today.
Martin O'Neill is in the marketplace for several more major targets, as the squad is in desperate need of refreshment following a close shave in Scottish football last year.
Hearts and Derek McInnes gave the 5IAR Champions a good run for their money, after Tony Bloom's initial involvement at the Tynecastle club, which could have easily been avoided, had proper investment in the playing squad been achieved last summer, as Brendan Rodgers continually pleaded for.
Now reports from Spain have confirmed that the World Cup star will return to pre-season training with the rest of his Real Oviedo teammates this midweek, as the Hoops' hierarchy has yet to strike an agreement with the Segunda Division side for the transfer to proceed. That is another frustrating update for Celtic supporters, but one that we are well used to, unfortunately.

According to MARCA, FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick does not wish to sell defender Gerard Martin this summer amid growing interest from AC Milan and Chelsea.
The Spanish ace established himself as a permanent fixture at centre-back for Barcelona last season despite being a left-back. His adaptability, versatility, and strong performances have led to interest from top clubs across Europe.
Some reports in Italy even suggest that AC Milan are prepared to offer €35 million for the 24-year-old centre-back.
While Barcelona are waiting to see whether either club submits a formal proposal, there is little surprise internally that the former Cornella defender has become a sought-after player.
Flick, however, remains determined to keep him at the club, seeing him as a 'world-class' talent.

Tennessee football is one of four finalists in the recruitment of three-star running back Asa Barnes.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound prospect will announce his commitment decision between the Vols, Arkansas, USC and Florida State at 5 p.m. EDT on the Rivals YouTube channel.
Barnes is an in-state target from Westview High School in Martin, Tennessee. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 41 running back in the class and No. 24 player in Tennessee.
Tennessee offered Barnes a scholarship during an unofficial visit on June 5, 2025. He has visited the Vols three times since then, most recently for an official visit on June 19.
Florida State was the first school to offer Barnes a scholarship on Jan. 19, 2025. Other schools to offer him a scholarship include Ohio State, Alabama, Ole Miss, Purdue, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Louisville, Northwestern, Cincinnati and Virginia Tech.

Where will you finish in the league and why?
From what we have seen from our new manager, Alfred Johansson, and signings so far there is no reason to believe that we won't finish in the top six. Ideally we can finish fourth again or, at the bare minimum, fifth and hope whoever wins the league also wins the Scottish Cup so we could make back-to-back European campaigns.
Who is the best signing or has he not signed yet and who should it be?
With having only played two games with fans present it is hard to fully say who has been the best addition to the squad so far. By default, I would have to say Martin Moorman after his 25-yard wonder goal that put us ahead last Thursday [against HB Torshavn]. The new players overall seem to have gelled well with the original team, alongside the younger players we have seen come through from the academy. I would still like to see an extra striker and maybe two more defenders come through just to be on the safe side while we try reducing our injury backlog.

Tennessee football hopes to land in-state standout Asa Barnes as a 2027 backfield sidekick to David Gabriel Georges.
Barnes is a three-star running back from Martin Westview. He is ranked the No. 36 running back and No. 551 player overall in the 2027 class. But he's coveted by the Vols to a degree beyond his recruit rating.
Barnes will announce his commitment at 5 p.m. ET on July 29.
If he picks Tennessee, Barnes will join Gabriel Georges, a five-star running back already committed to the Vols. And UT would become only the fifth team to land multiple top-40 running backs in the 2027 class.

Once upon a time (although it wasn't just once), the Braves used Carlos Carrasco in a close game. Ronald Acuña Jr. got injured in that game and ended up missing about six weeks of play. The use of Carrasco turned sinister, the Braves lost that game, and then ended up mired in a funk that lasted for a good chunk of Acuña's absence.
Tonight, Ronald Acuña Jr. made his return to the lineup. It could have been a triumphant time, building on the Braves' recent strong run of results. Instead, amid some rain and another indifferent outing from Martin Perez, the Braves opted to insert Connor Thomas, the "last guy" in their bullpen, into a tie game. It went south almost immediately, and then it kind of ran out south to go, as the Mets just pummeled Thomas into oblivion. To the Braves' credit, they let Thomas wear it and didn't use another pitcher, avoiding a double-down mistake of using Thomas to save the rest of the bullpen but then not actually saving the rest of the bullpen. (Jorge Mateo got the last out in lieu of Thomas, after the score had ballooned to 14-3 in favor of the Mets.)
Before all that, though, the game was pretty cool. In his first major league PA in a while, Acuña fell behind 0-2 against Zac Thornton, battled back to 3-2, and then teed off on a pitch down the middle, knocking it 108 mph to center for a solid single. Drake Baldwin followed followed with a hard liner single of his own, and the Braves seemed to be in business. Unfortunately, Matt Olson hit into a double play, but Ozzie Albies, as part of a measure of personal revenge for possibly a career-worst game on Sunday, legged out an infield hit to plate his buddy for the first run of the game.
Martin Perez did not have a shutdown first inning. A hard-hit grounder went for a leadoff hit, and then Francisco Lindor got his arms extended on a cutter on the edge away and nearly hit it out of the park. The play ended up being kind of weird, as it looked like it was just going to be a double, but the ball bounced far enough off the wall that Lindor ended up getting an RBI triple. But, Perez pachinko also cuts the other way, as a grounder to third, a strikeout, and flyout to center kept the game tied at one run apiece.
Nothing much happened in the second or the top of the third. In the bottom half of the inning, after a leadoff single, Lindor again took a Perez pitch on the outer edge, this time a changeup, and pulled it into left for a two-run homer. Perez was hitting his spots, but it didn't matter. That score didn't last long: after Olson drew a leadoff walk in the fourth, Albies victimized Thornton by crushing an elevated fastball for a definitive non-cheapie homer. Michael Harris II singled and it looked like the Braves might've solved Thornton, but that didn't end up being the case, as Mauricio Dubon popped out and Austin Riley hit into a double play.

Daizen Maeda has joined English Premier League side, Ipswich Town, after four-and-a-half years at Celtic.
The 28-year-old ******* anese internationalist made a total of 212 appearances for the Hoops, scoring 79 goals, a tally which began with a debut goal against Hibernian back in January 2022.
And over the course of his time at Celtic, he won five league ******* les, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups.
The most recent of those trophies came last season when he played a key role as Martin O'Neill's side win a league and Scottish Cup double.
He scored nine goals in the last seven games of the campaign, including a spectacular overhead kick in a 3-1 derby win at Paradise and a goal on the last day of the league season against Hearts as the Hoops sealed an incredible double.

That game will be packed but today's friendly against a lightweight AC Milan side that will be missing multiple top performers, will not be well attended due to the Celtic support once again being frustrated and angry with the club for creating another summer of discontent through their inactivity in transfer market, so far only getting one deal over the line with the £5m signing of Camilo Duran from Qarabag.
That transfer fee has been more than covered by the sale of Luis Palma to Lech Poznan for £3.5m and Maik Nawrocki to RC Lens for £2m. And with Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson in discussions to sign four new players, it looks like the delay could be caused by an instruction to wait for sales of key players like Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels before proceeding with the purchases Martin O'Neill needs this week.
Maeda should compete his move to Ipswich Town today and that could result in Kasper Hogh from Bodo Glimt coming to Celtic early next week, fingers crossed anyway.
Meanwhile Celtic are haggling over a few hundred grand which is frustrating the move for German midfielder Mika Baur with SC Paderborn resisting the latest Celtic lowballing attempt for their player who has already agreed personal terms with the Scottish Champions and wants the move to happen.

Call it a B-spec, call it a heavily revised AMR26, call it whatever you want – what Aston Martin rolled out at the Hungaroring for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix is, by any reasonable engineering standard, a new Formula 1 car. Sixteen separate components were declared upgraded, mechanics broke FIA curfew to get both cars fitted in time, and the team reportedly flew spare parts to Budapest just to guarantee Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll could each run the full package. That is not a development update. That is a rebuild.
The backstory is by now well-documented and not particularly flattering. Adrian Newey didn't get serious work underway on the AMR26 until mid-March 2025, and the wind tunnel didn't see a model until mid-April – three months behind rivals who were already deep into the new regulatory cycle. The car that arrived at pre-season testing in Barcelona was overweight, paddock insiders estimated by somewhere between 10 and 15 kilograms, maybe more, and the Honda power unit was generating vibrations severe enough to rattle onboard cameras loose and leave Alonso and Stroll visibly fighting the steering wheel.
At the Australian opener, Alonso qualified 2.462 seconds off the pace. Both cars retired when the vibrations damaged the battery systems. It went largely sideways from there – one point across the opening ten rounds, tenth of eleven teams in the constructors' standings, behind only the expansion Cadillac outfit.
The nose is the clearest sign of how deep the changes go. Where the original AMR26 carried a wide, blunt front structure, the Hungary version features a noticeably thinner, more tapered profile – the kind of slender nose Newey has favoured since his early Red Bull years. That change alone cascades through the entire front end: new uprights, revised aerodynamic ducting, changed actuator mounting, and a completely reworked front wing with reshaped endplates. Per Newey, the forward section of the chassis was lightened to the point that it required a full re-homologation and fresh crash testing – which, depending on your definition, crosses the threshold from upgrade to new car.
Newey himself occupies both sides of that argument simultaneously. "The main structural elements remain the same – the chassis and gearbox architecture don't fundamentally change – but we've taken weight out of both, which required re-homologating and crash testing the forward chassis," he said. So: same architecture, new crash test. Make of that what you will.

World champion Lando Norris has taken a swipe at Formula One chiefs accusing them of putting profit before the sport.
Speaking ahead of this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, Norris also claimed F1 fans who have not been reared on Netflix's Drive to Survive series will "hate" this season's regulations.
The new engine rules – a 50-50 split between combustion and electrical power – have attracted criticism up and down the grid. They are back in the spotlight after the power-dependent rounds at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps.
Respected Sky F1 pundit Martin Brundle said he had been left with a "tear in my eye because we've lost all the great corners at Silverstone and at Spa" with drivers effectively slowing down at top speed to recharge their battery.
And Norris said: "It's a business. Everyone wants to make money, so in order for Audi (new to the grid for 2026) and other teams like Cadillac to come in, we had to make changes.

July 23 (Reuters) - Paramount Skydance must pause its $110 billion acquisition of ‌Warner Bros. Discovery through August 17, a ‌federal judge ruled on Thursday.
The move gives Paramount Skydance more time to argue against a potential months-long pause while the case plays out. The company has said such a prolonged delay ‌would plunge the ⁠deal into uncertainty and could cost it more than $1 billion.
A California-led coalition ⁠of states have sued to block the deal, saying it would harm competition in film and television, hurting theaters and cable companies. The ‌Writers Guild of America has filed a separate lawsuit alleging the deal would decrease demand for screenwriting work.
U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín in Oakland, California, previously paused the deal through ‌August 3, when she would have held a hearing on whether to postpone the deal's closing for ‌longer.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Cleveland Guardians activated outfielder Angel Martinez from the 10-day injured list and left-handed reliever Tim Herrin from the 15-day IL on Friday before the start of a series against the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays.
To make room on the roster, left-hander Will Dion and utility man Daniel Schneemann were optioned to Triple-A Columbus.

Anthropic will pay $1.5 billion to authors whose pirated books it used to train its AI in the largest copyright settlement in U.S. history.
Federal Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin in Oakland granted final approval of the settlement Monday. The record payout was a modest win for copyright holders, setting a precedent as a wave of AI-related lawsuits works its way through courts.
Although the judge said Anthropic could use authors' works for training, he backed the payout for acquiring and storing pirated books.
More than 500,000 authors and publishers were part of the class-action lawsuit, and they will get paid an estimated $3,000 per eligible work. Their lawyers were awarded $101.6 million in fees.
In 2024, a group of authors sued Anthropic, arguing that the company pirated hundreds of thousands of copyrighted books and used them without permission.

July 23 (Reuters) - Defense giant Lockheed Martin lifted its 2026 sales and profit forecasts on Thursday as the Pentagon ‌looks to replenish weapons stockpiles amid a wave of global conflicts.
Shares ‌of the company rose 7% in premarket trading.
President Donald Trump has been urging defense contractors to increase production as the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and a prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict drain the Pentagon's inventory.
Revenue for Lockheed's missiles and fire control business rose nearly 20% to $4.1 billion, driven by a production ramp-up of its PAC-3 and Precision Strike missiles, both of which ‌have been used in the ⁠war on Iran in the last few months.

Former IndyCar Series driver and F1 TV pundit James Hinchcliffe has argued that Aston Martin's highly anticipated upgrade package at the Hungarian Grand Prix should not be judged solely on its immediate pace, warning that the team will need time to maximise the changes.
Ahead of the final race before Formula 1's summer break, the Silverstone outfit is debuting a massive upgrade package at the Hungaroring. Aston Martin opted against introducing incremental changes, instead choosing to target Hungary to essentially bring a B-spec car.
Speaking on F1 TV's Weekend Warm-Up, Hinchcliffe discussed the pressure on the Adrian Newey-led squad to deliver a result.
"Yes, there's a lot of pressure, certainly. They've made a bold choice. I've never seen anything quite like it in Formula 1 to just sit on the car as is and have everything come in one go," Hinchcliffe explained.
"And there's just going to be so much hope, so much anticipation for this weekend that it all works. Now remember, just because you bolted it onto the car today doesn't mean you've maximised the package today.

Gloucester chief executive officer Alex Brown says there are "talks ongoing" about new investment in the Prem club.
The Cherry and Whites' most recent set of accounts, for the year to June 2025, showed an increase in losses from £516,355 to £2.91m.
"There is interest in Gloucester Rugby but our shareholders and board are very sensitive to who that investment might be," Brown told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"It has to be right for the club, for the future and we'll take every opportunity that comes but there are talks going on about further investment."
In May, Gloucester owner Martin St Quinton told the BBC there was "more appetite" to invest in Prem rugby now promotion and relegation had been formally scrapped for the 2026-27 season.
