The Kentucky Wildcats volleyball team faced another ranked team on Sunday night by taking on the 13th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions at Wrigley Field in Chicago. It could have been a tough match, but at the end of the night, the Cats stood tall, and got a fourth straight win 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15).

Sept 5 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court panel rejected the Trump administration's bid to lift a ban on using a federal immigration database to check the accuracy of citizenship records on states' voter rolls.
In a 2-1 ruling on Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia declined to lift a lower court's ban on using the Homeland Security Department's Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements database. The earlier ruling determined that the government cannot use the system ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, in which Trump's Republicans will be defending narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress.
Chief Judge Sri Srinivasan and U.S. Circuit Judge Robert Wilkins, both appointed to the appeals court by President Barack Obama, upheld the lower court decision that the SAVE system violates the Social Security Act as it shares millions of Americans' private information. The appeals court judges also noted concerns around the potential for inaccurate citizen information that could lead to people having to prove citizenship to remain registered voters, and in some cases could even lead to voter registration being canceled.
U.S. Circuit Judge Gregory Katsas, an appointee of President Donald Trump, dissented.

All eyes were on the August payrolls report, which showed 162,000 jobs added in the previous month, blowing past economists' expectations of 55,000 jobs added. That offered a strong countersignal to the economic data released this week, which suggested the labor market remained stuck in a pattern of sluggish but stable growth.
The question on Wall Street was whether August's strong jobs number would be enough to tilt the Fed toward hiking interest rates. Following the hot jobs report, traders increased their bets of a Fed rate hike in September to roughly 60% odds, according to CME Group.
In individual stock moves, Lululemon stock tanked 16% after the athleisure apparel company cut its revenue and profit guidance, and second quarter revenue declined. There are no other notable earnings reports scheduled for Friday.

Companies in the private sector added 38,000 jobs in August, payroll processing firm ADP said in its latest report on Wednesday.
The figure is below economists' estimates of a gain of 48,000 jobs and down from the prior month's revised 46,000 payrolls. August's figure is the lowest since January.
"Pay can tell us a lot about today's choppy hiring," said Nela Richardson, ADP's chief economist. "To understand hiring patterns, you have to look deeply into where pay growth is accelerating, where it's slowing, and for whom. Shakespeare's Pizza and several other Columbia-area favorites are joining the food lineup at Memorial Stadium as Mizzou Athletics rolls out new concessions and hospitality offerings for football fans this season.
The additions come through a partnership involving Sodexo Live!, Mizzou Athletics and Columbia-based Upper Crust Food Service, according to a community announcement. Fans attending games will see new local vendors, updated menu items and expanded hospitality options throughout the stadium.
For the first time, Shakespeare's Pizza will be available inside Memorial Stadium, bringing one of Columbia's best-known food brands into the game-day experience.
"As we looked at the new hospitality offerings we wanted to bring to fans this season, we wanted to focus on food that feels like home while giving fans new reasons to explore and enjoy the game-day experience," Brian Gaskill, regional vice president of Sodexo Live!, said in the announcement. "Shakespeare's is a huge part of Columbia, and we know how excited fans will be to see it in the stadium. We're bringing a strong lineup of local favorites, Missouri flavors and some fun new takes on game-day classics straight to fans."

It's important to remember that the strength of non-conference schedules can differ wildly from team-to-team. However, don't be fooled by thinking that an SEC team playing a lowly FCS program translates to piles of fantasy points for your respective players. Oftentimes the marquee players are on ice by the time the second half rolls around in these lopsided matchups.

With that in mind, here are my starts and sits for college fantasy football Week 1.
In last year's Apple Cup, Williams eviscerated the Cougs, completing 16-of-19 passes for 298 yards with four passing touchdowns, while rushing for 88 yards and another rushing score. This prodigious production came against a credible Wazzu defense that allowed 20 PPG and 174 passing yards per game with 31 sacks. This year, Wazzu loses all 11 starters and bring in from Missouri new HC Kirby Moore, who is an offensive-minded coach. I expect the Huskies to do anything they want and give Wazzu a little extra since they're rivals and they want to score some style points in Game 1, meaning Williams should have another huge fantasy game in this year's Apple Cup.
West Virginia is going to run the ball with aplomb in Year 2 of the Rich Rodriguez resurgence in Morgantown. WVU went 4-8 last year as Rich Rod reorganized the roster in his visage, but this year the Mountaineers boast 120 line starts after portaling in four FBS starting offensive linemen and hiring OL guru Rick Trickett, which should greatly increase their middling 161 rushing yards per game average last year. For their part, CCU and new HC Ryan Beard are just serviceable enough to keep WVU's starters in the game until Q4. That is important since CCU was gorged for 5.1 YPC and 208 rushing yards per game in 2025. Cook should clear 100-yards and punch in at least one TD against the soft underbelly of the Chanticleers defensive front.

On August 25, The Marzetti Company (NASDAQ:MZTI) closed out a fiscal year of records, even as reported quarterly sales slipped 2.2% to $465.0 million. The drop traces to the planned expiration of a temporary supply agreement rather than any softness in the core business, and once that noise is stripped out, adjusted sales actually grew. Behind the headline number sits a company generating more cash and profit than it ever has, just as a fresh food safety scare threatens to interrupt the streak.
Fiscal 2026 marked the fourth straight year of record net sales and gross profit and the third straight year of record operating income, with fourth-quarter gross profit alone reaching $114.0 million. New York Bakery grew 2.8% and took 220 basis points of share to a leading 45.5%, while branded croutons picked up another 100 basis points. Let's face it, by the time the third preseason game rolls around, most of the battles have been fought, debates have taken place, and roster decisions have been made. With final rosters due on August 30, teams have no time to waste whittling down from 90 to 53.
The Dallas Cowboys are certainly no exception. Unlike most teams coming off losing seasons, Dallas has most of the roster spots written in stone. Very few spots are up for grabs, so for those operating on the periphery, margins are razor thin and mistakes cannot be afforded.
It's these handful of players who stood out in all the wrong ways in the Cowboys' 27-24 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Friday night. While Jaishawn Barham, Camden Brown and Joe Milton III all performed admirably, far too many others wilted under the pressure.
Cowboys Nation almost universally joined the Trigg bandwagon from the jump. An above-the-rim tight end from Baylor was Dallas' prized rookie undrafted free agent this year. With so much potential to work with, character concerns and blocking deficiencies could be overlooked, provided he dazzled with ball skills.
Sadly, Trigg did not dazzle. While he showed a willingness to block, he wasn't particularly good at it on Friday against the Saints. To make matters worse, Trigg struggled to catch the ball making his place on the Cowboys final 53 a longshot.

The New York Jets have concluded the preseason portion of their 2026 NFL scheduling, having lost to the New York Giants in a 23-6 final on Friday at MetLife Stadium.
Not every team has finished their exhibition season. Week 3 of the preseason rolls on throughout the weekend but all 32 teams in the NFL have their eye now on 6 p.m. on Sunday. That is when every team needs to be down to 53 players, one way or another.

ROYAL CENTER — The Pioneer volleyball team might have made history Tuesday in playing its first ever varsity match at the Pioneer Elementary School gym Tuesday.
It wasn't under ideal conditions as the junior/senior high school is currently out of commission and is being cleaned up following historic flooding two weeks ago.
But life rolls on in Panther Land and the Panthers easily dispatched of an overmatched Argos team 3-0.
For Pioneer senior setter Lois Layer, it had been since sixth grade basketball since she played a contest in the elementary gym.
"It's been a long time, like a really long time," she said. "It's just a little bit hot. It's hot in here."
