Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) new iPhones are here, and this could be just the ticket to get the consumer tech ******* an back on top of the market cap throne. It doesn't have far to go to get there.
The stock's recent gains now place it within 2% of hitting a market cap of $5 trillion. Perhaps even more intriguingly, Apple is now less than 10% away from overtaking Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) to become the market's most valuable company by market capitalization.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Apple's business isn't growing as quickly as Nvidia's these days, but it is closing the gap in market cap. Nvidia investors can't feel too bad, with the stock up 26% over the past year. It's just that Apple stock has soared by more than 40% in that time. Momentum is on its side, and that's before a bar-raising device hits the market.
For more than a dozen years, Apple has fallen into a predictable pattern. It delivers double-digit revenue growth in a fiscal year in which it rolls out a revolutionary iPhone model. Then it follows that with two -- and lately more than two -- years of single-digit or negative top-line growth, settling for merely evolutionary smartphone updates.

The Magnificent 7 stocks are having a tough ride in 2026, and only Apple (AAPL) is outperforming the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX). Digging deeper, Nvidia (NVDA) is the only other constituent that is up in double digits. Despite its recent rally, Tesla (TSLA) is still down over 18% year-to-date (YTD) and is the worst-performing Mag 7 stock.
The price action is not difficult to explain. Investors are now getting increasingly wary of tech companies' ever-rising capex to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. Apple was an outlier in the AI buildout race and is now sitting pretty as investors realize that waiting it out wasn't exactly a bad move on the iPhone maker's part.

Realty Income Corporation (NYSE:O) announced on September 14 a European property venture in which capital accounts advised by KKR & Co. Inc. (NYSE:KKR) intend to invest €528 million for a 49% interest. Closing is expected September 30, subject to customary conditions.
Realty Income Corporation (NYSE:O) would receive approximately €528 million in gross proceeds while retaining 51% ownership and day-to-day ******* et management. The contributed portfolio carries a 5.9% effective initial capitalization rate after recurring management fees. The question is whether redeploying the capital and earning fees can more than offset the rental economics transferred to the partner.
The venture could provide another funding source for acquisitions. Selling a minority interest in existing properties can release capital while preserving operational continuity. It also gives management an alternative when public equity or debt financing offers less attractive terms.
Management fees add a second source of income alongside retained property earnings. Realty Income Corporation (NYSE:O) could use its existing European operating platform to manage the venture, potentially spreading overhead across a broader pool of investor capital. The benefit depends on fee revenue exceeding the incremental costs of providing those services.
The structure includes a further source of potential upside. Realty Income Corporation (NYSE:O) would have an option to redeem the partner's interest after year 10 and through year 17. The redemption price would provide a capped internal rate of return, an annualized return accounting for cash-flow timing, expected at 6.3% to 6.5% and finalized at closing.

The yuan-denominated crude oil futures trading in China hit this week their highest level since the contract was launched in 2018 as escalating threats to Middle East's oil supply and increased purchases by Chinese refiners push prices higher.
Launched in March 2018, the INE crude oil futures contract (SC) is a physical-settlement contract priced and traded in Chinese yuan on the Shanghai International Energy Exchange.
The crude futures soared to as much as 929.4 yuan, or $138.50 per barrel, on the exchange, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
The price spike followed the intensified concerns about supply from the Middle East after the East-West oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia was attacked by drones late last week, forcing the Kingdom to temporarily shut it down.
The international crude oil benchmarks also rallied at the start of this week. As of Tuesday, no timeline has been given as to when the pipeline would come back and continue helping Saudi Arabia bypass the Strait of Hormuz with shipments out of the Red Sea port of Yanbu.

Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $3.41 billion, up 34% year over year. Next-Generation Security annual recurring revenue, or NGS ARR, increased 63% to $9.10 billion, while remaining performance obligations rose 34% to $21.2 billion. Remaining performance obligations represent contracted revenue not yet recognized.
NGS ARR is a company-reported operating metric measuring annualized allocated revenue from active contracts, excluding hardware, legacy attached subscriptions and support, and professional services. The current portfolio includes acquired identity and observability businesses absent from the prior-year base, so the 63% increase is not an organic growth rate. Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) also reported a $282 million GAAP net loss after earning $254 million a year earlier.
The commercial indicators support greater customer consolidation onto the expanded platform. Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) added approximately $970 million of net new NGS ARR. The $21.2 billion RPO balance provides visibility as contracted revenue is recognized over time.
Cash generation also remained strong despite the GAAP loss. Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) produced $1.36 billion of operating cash flow, up from $1.02 billion a year earlier. That cash supports integration work.
Management expects fiscal 2027 revenue of $14.10 billion to $14.20 billion, representing growth of 23% to 24%. NGS ARR is expected to reach $11.075 billion to $11.175 billion, up 22% to 23%. Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) also acquired Console, an AI-native platform intended to add agentic workflows to Cortex and extend automated investigation and remediation across enterprise operations.

Baron Capital, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for its "Baron Fifth Avenue Growth Fund". The letter can be downloaded here. The fund achieved a strong quarter, gaining 24.6% (Institutional Shares), outperforming the Russell 1000 Growth Index (16.7%) and the S&P 500 (15.2%). Year to date, it's up 11.7%, surpassing its benchmarks. The first half of 2026 mirrored the previous year, with a 10.4% drawdown in Q1 due to geopolitical tensions, similar to last year's tariff-related decline. However, the fund rebounded with a 24.6% gain in Q2 after a cease-fire and declining oil prices. Stock selection drove the outperformance, contributing 940bps, while sector allocation detracted 152bps. In a volatile market, the firm remains focused on identifying high-quality, competitively advantaged companies and is optimistic about long-term prospects, investing when prices align with intrinsic values. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Baron Fifth Avenue Growth Fund highlighted Coupang, Inc. (NYSE:CPNG). Coupang, Inc. (NYSE:CPNG), a Korean technology and e-commerce platform that operates through Product Commerce and Developing Offerings segments, detracted from the fund's performance this quarter. On August 31, 2026, Coupang, Inc. (NYSE:CPNG) closed at $16.06 per share. Over the past month, Coupang, Inc. (NYSE:CPNG) declined 4.29%, and its shares are down 43.47% over the past year. Coupang, Inc. (NYSE:CPNG) has a market capitalization of $28.87 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $14.92 to $34.08.
Baron Fifth Avenue Growth Fund stated the following regarding Coupang, Inc. (NYSE:CPNG) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Coupang, Inc. (NYSE:CPNG), Korea's largest e-commerce platform, detracted from performance with shares down 7.7%. The stock came under pressure following first-quarter results, where in-line revenue was overshadowed by softer second-quarter guidance as capacity and supply chain investments made ahead of Coupang's 2025 data breach weighed on margins while customer volumes recovered. Sentiment was further weighed down by a record KRW 624.7 billion (about US $430 million) privacy fine stemming from an investigation into the breach, while a rotation of fast money into AI and semiconductor names added to the weakness. Despite these headwinds, our conviction remains intact. We view the margin pressure as temporary, and the fine removes a key overhang and reinforces our belief that the breach does not reflect a structural loss of market share. By the end of April, Coupang recovered roughly 80% of the post-breach decline in WOW Membership (its paid subscription program), with returning members resuming prior spending levels. We continue to view Coupang as a competitively advantaged e-commerce business gaining share in its core market while scaling Taiwan operations."

Hennessy Fund's Q2 2026 investor letter for the Hennessy Equity and Income Fund. The letter can be downloaded here. The letter discusses portfolio changes, emphasizing opportunities in equity and fixed income markets that can withstand economic uncertainty. The portfolio held businesses with a 23.0% pre-tax return on invested capital versus 16.1% for the S&P 500. The letter notes a reversal in U.S. equities, driven by AI spending and strong earnings, despite cautious sentiment among lower-income households. The focus on high-quality firms with durable advantages is expected to yield positive outcomes as valuation pressures mount, indicating that future market performance may hinge on fundamentals rather than speculative trends. The portfolio aims to capitalize on the overlooked valuations of quality companies, presenting significant investment opportunities. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Hennessy Equity and Income Fund highlighted Dominion Energy, Inc. (NYSE:D). Dominion Energy, Inc. (NYSE:D) has a market capitalization of $57.65 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $55.85 to $72.99.
Hennessy Equity and Income Fund stated the following regarding Dominion Energy, Inc. (NYSE:D) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Our process remains bottom-up, and recent volatility has mainly given us opportunities to add, what we believe, are high-quality businesses at attractive valuations, funded by trimming positions that had appreciated or where our conviction had lowered.
In January, we initiated a position in Dominion Energy, Inc. (NYSE:D), which operates as a predominantly regulated utility with stable earnings, improving financial flexibility, and attractive long-term growth drivers. More than 90% of earnings are generated from regulated electric and gas utilities in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, providing predictable cash flows and low revenue cyclicality.

About a million Americans had to find new health insurance at the start of 2026. CVS Health's Aetna subsidiary pulled out of the Affordable Care Act marketplace in 17 states, and at least a dozen more carriers announced they'll stop selling plans next year. When that happens, several hundred thousand more people will need to find coverage elsewhere.
The departures aren't random. When enhanced federal subsidies expired at the end of 2025, premiums jumped, and healthier enrollees dropped coverage. Insurers found themselves covering a smaller, sicker group, and one by one, they decided to stop. The numbers were no longer adding up.
Texas has lost three carriers in two years. Oregon is down another two. For the millions of people who depend on marketplace coverage, every exit gives the insurers who stay less reason to keep prices low.
CVS Health was the first major provider to leave. Its Aetna marketplace enrollees were running up medical bills that exceeded what the company collected in premiums, and CVS projected losses of up to $400 million on its ACA plans in 2025. It was the company's second retreat from the exchanges: Aetna had pulled out in 2017, returned in 2022, expanded into more states in 2023, and still couldn't make the business work.
Cigna followed in late April. The insurer's marketplace enrollment had already fallen 17% from a year earlier, and its president and incoming CEO, Brian Evanko, told ***** ysts there was no viable path to growth. Cigna will leave all 11 states where it sells plans, displacing about 369,000 enrollees, according to healthinsurance.org and Becker's Payer Issues.

On August 13, Capricor Therapeutics (NASDAQ:CAPR) held its second-quarter earnings call, just over two weeks after an FDA advisory committee voted 3 to 9 against the company's bid to treat cardiomyopathy in ****** nne muscular dystrophy patients on July 29. That rejection forced a strategic pivot. Management now plans to amend its Biologics License Application to pursue a narrower upper limb skeletal muscle indication, the same measure that carried the HOPE-3 trial's primary endpoint. The shift extends the regulatory timeline, but it also puts the spotlight back on the data that held up best.
Deramiocel's case still rests on real numbers. The HOPE-3 primary endpoint showed a statistically significant slowing of upper limb disease progression, with a 4.5% mean difference favoring the drug and a p-value of 0.029. During a separate advisory committee discussion, feedback on upper limb function was described as directionally supportive of that evidence. The cardiomyopathy subgroup's ejection fraction data held too, showing a 2.8 percentage point treatment difference at a p-value of 0.02, unchanged from the original ****** ysis.
Safety data spans more than 1,300 intravenous infusions across over 200 patients in three clinical trials, with more than 80 patients enrolled in open-label extension studies, some receiving infusions for over five years. The full HOPE-3 data set was published in The Lancet in July following independent peer review. The FDA has indicated it will review the coming BLA amendment and extend the PDUFA date accordingly, and Capricor has already opened regulatory conversations in Europe and ****** an while its manufacturing facility in San Diego remains operational for a potential launch.
The financial picture moved the other direction. Cash and marketable securities fell to $237.9 million as of June 30, 2026, down from $318.1 million at the end of 2025. Second quarter net loss widened to $40.7 million, or $0.70 per share, compared to $25.9 million, or $0.57 per share, a year earlier, as operating expenses climbed to $42.9 million from $27.7 million. Research and development spending rose to $28.9 million and general and administrative costs jumped to $14.1 million from $5.7 million. The company booked zero revenue again.
Complicating matters, the left ventricular ejection fraction result across all patients was revised under the prespecified statistical model from a 2.4 percentage point difference at p=0.04 down to 1.8 percentage points at p=0.09, weakening a key secondary measure. An FDA Bioresearch Monitoring inspection in July produced a Form 483 with one observation. Non-Deramiocel pipeline work remains on hold, and the company's arbitration with NS Pharma over their distribution agreement isn't expected to begin until fall 2026.

Alibaba fell after it announced a roughly $10.2 billion equity raise to fund more AI investment. The company is issuing 710 million new shares at HK$112.70, an 8.4% discount to the previous close. Shareholders will see their stakes diluted by roughly 3.6%, so the negative reaction was understandable. I bought (BABA) after the fall. What interested me was not simply that the shares were lower. A lower price by itself has never been enough for me. What changed was the combination of the price, the capital raise, and what management did almost immediately afterward.
Chairman Joseph Tsai bought about $10.3 million of stock and CEO Eddie Wu bought roughly $5 million, both at prices very close to where the new shares were issued. These appear to be their first meaningfully reported open-market purchases. That caught my attention. Alibaba has just asked outside shareholders to accept dilution so it can spend more heavily on AI. The two people closest to that decision then used their money to buy the shares created by the market's discomfort with it. Corporate capital allocation tells you what management thinks should happen with the company's money. Insider buying tells you what management is prepared to do with its own. I prefer the second signal.

SpaceX (SPCX) has quickly become one of the world's most valuable public companies, but investors buying its shares are not getting the same influence over the business that they would at most large corporations. Elon Musk owns a 48.4% economic stake in **** eX, yet the company's dual-class share structure gives him more than 82% of its voting power. In practical terms, that leaves **** eX's founder and CEO with overwhelming control over major corporate decisions.
For shareholders, that concentration of power cuts both ways. Musk has made clear that he wants **** eX to remain focused on long-term projects, from expanding Starlink and scaling its AI business to pursuing ambitions on the Moon and Mars. Having such extensive voting control gives him the freedom to make enormous long-term investments without worrying that shareholders dissatisfied with near-term performance could force a change in strategy or leadership. That freedom, however, also limits the ability of outside investors to influence how the company is run.

1459 ET – Crude futures settle lower after a string of gains with the U.S. and Iran both claiming to have control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz. “The stalemate in crude price movements comes at a time when we see no horizon for a return of constructive diplomatic momentum or a return to broad escalation, at least in the very short term,” XS.com senior market ***** yst Samer Hasn says in a note. That will keep the region “in a state of no peace and no war,” he says, with the possibility of major escalation keeping the risk premium high. Aug 5 (Reuters) - Sales of Eli Lilly's Zepbound and Mounjaro injectable weight-loss and diabetes drugs soared during the second quarter, easily beating Wall Street estimates and widening the gap with Danish rival Novo Nordisk.
The trillion-dollar ‌company also posted better-than-expected quarterly results and raised its full-year revenue forecast, and its shares jumped over 5% in early ‌trading.
The strong results are likely to reassure investors that demand for Lilly's GLP-1 treatments remains resilient despite pricing pressure and intensifying competition from Novo, which launched an oral version of its Wegovy weight-loss drug in the U.S. earlier this year.
Sales of diabetes drug Mounjaro rose 91% to $9.94 billion, beating ****** ysts' estimates, while obesity drug Zepbound brought in $4.93 billion, compared with expectations of $4.73 billion. The two drugs accounted for 64.7% of Lilly's revenue in the latest reported quarter.

Management attributes the 20.4% year-over-year consolidated NOI growth to successful business plan execution following the completion of senior housing operator transitions in late 2025.
The SHOP segment's 37.2% same-property NOI increase was driven by a combination of 160 basis points in occupancy gains and a 6.2% rise in average monthly rates.
Profitability is currently outperforming original underwriting due to an accelerated capture of higher acuity care levels and rapid realization of expense synergies by new operators.
Management noted that while occupancy volume is pacing slightly below initial projections, the 'structural margin enhancements' are fully offsetting top-line volume moderation.

For years, Wall Street **** ysts have predicted that profits were just around the corner for Rocket Lab (NASDAQ: RKLB). Ramping Electron launches and the potential for a newer, larger Neutron rocket have been repeatedly cited as reasons to expect Rocket Lab to turn that corner and begin reporting generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) net earnings -- and free cash flow, too.
It hasn't happened yet, but now that Rocket Lab has announced a big acquisition of satellite company Iridium (NASDAQ: IRDM), I'm prepared to climb out on a limb myself and make the following prediction: Rocket Lab will turn profitable and free-cash-flow-positive in 2027.
Continue »
Rocket Lab today is an unprofitable **** e stock -- just like most **** e stocks are unprofitable. (Yes, even **** e Exploration Technologies.) It's also a cash-burning business -- also like **** eX. And yet, thanks to one inspired acquisition, Rocket Lab is on the cusp of turning into a company that's not just GAAP profitable, but generating real cash profit as well: free cash flow.
How do I know this?

Vanguard data shows typical millennial retirement balances are still modest, but time and steady saving could put $1 million within reach.
Under our estimates, a 30-year-old millennial could reach $1 million by age 65 at a 10% total contribution rate.
A 40-year-old millennial may need a total contribution rate closer to 15% to reach $1 million by 65.
For many millennials, millionaire retirement status can feel simultaneously necessary and out of reach. Living costs are high, housing remains expensive, and student debt has weighed on many savers during their prime wealth-building years.
But Vanguard's latest retirement data suggests the picture is not all bleak. Median balances are still modest, but for millennials with decades left to invest, steady contributions and compounding could make a seven-figure retirement balance possible.

UnitedHealth's stock is flying high after it raised guidance, but on its latest earnings call, ***** ysts zeroed in on an underlying margin divergence running right through the business.
After a +50% run over the past year, UnitedHealth (UNH) stock trades near its 52-week high, and on the surface, its latest earnings report was a clean beat. The company raised its full-year outlook, and the headline numbers looked strong. But the Q&A session with ***** ysts kept circling one critical tension: is the impressive turnaround in the large Medicare business strong enough to offset a new, worsening problem in the company's commercial insurance segment?
The core worry for investors is that stubbornly high medical costs in the commercial business are getting worse. On the call, management confirmed that cost trends are running "modestly above 11%," a deterioration from prior expectations. This is not a small corner of the business; if its margins cannot recover, it puts a real ceiling on the company's growth.
When pressed for the cause, management gave a surprisingly specific answer. The answer went beyond general inflation, pinpointing a federal arbitration process under the No Surprises Act that management ***** erts is being leveraged aggressively by select provider groups. This is now adding "at least 100 basis points of total cost" to the commercial business. The issue is highly concentrated, and according to data cited by management, roughly 60% of their arbitration disputes are brought by one of just five entities. The response quantified the problem, but the admission that came with it was stark: the timeline for a full margin recovery in this segment has been pushed out "past 2027." That is a concrete delay to a key part of the investment case.
While the commercial segment is a growing headache, the equally large Medicare Advantage business is performing better than planned. The key question here was whether this was just good luck from a mild flu season or the result of management's own actions. The answer was more confident than vague.

Stock indexes are climbing today as Monday's rebound in chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks gathers pace. The recent selloff in chipmakers has cheapened valuations and has enticed dip buyers ahead of earnings results of megacap technology stocks this week, beginning with Alphabet on Wednesday. On the negative side, software stocks are weak after Morgan Stanley downgraded several stocks in the sector.

Memory and storage giant Micron Technology (MU) has been one of the standout beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, delivering massive triple-digit gains so far in 2026. Now, the red-hot chip stock is back in focus after the company announced a series of strategic customer agreements aimed at expanding its presence in the rapidly evolving automotive technology market. On Thursday, Micron revealed strategic customer agreements (SCAs) with several major automotive and technology players, including Qualcomm (QCOM), Visteon (VC), Harman, JOYNEXT, Denso, Astemo, and Hyundai Mobis.
The partnerships come as increasingly connected and intelligent vehicles require more advanced memory and storage solutions to power everything from sophisticated infotainment systems to AI-enabled features. Micron Chairman, President, and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra emphasized that memory and storage will play an increasingly important role as vehicles become smarter and more technologically advanced. He noted that the new agreements should help ensure next-generation automotive platforms have the capabilities needed to support richer, safer, and more intelligent in-vehicle experiences. With Micron already riding strong AI-driven demand and now deepening its ties across the automotive ecosystem, could this latest development add another catalyst to MU stock?
