The Cleveland Browns have had plenty of time this offseason to reflect on what they need to do in 2026. With a new coaching staff and an overhauled roster, Week 1 will speak volumes about what they'll be like.
ESPN also did one last bit of reflection when they tasked the beat writers for their respective teams with answering a few final questions about their teams. However, one question was directed at ESPN's Seth Walder. He was asked what a bold prediction about the Browns is.
His answer centered on the quarterback position.
He answered, "Quarterback Taylen Green will start at least four games. Perhaps there's no fourth-string player with an easier path to playing time than Green, a sixth-round pick out of Arkansas. I'm bearish on Watson, Sanders and Gabriel, so by the time the end of the season rolls around, I suspect the Browns will want to see if they have anything in Green."
Taylen Green may already be getting some work in packages. He just brings something to the position with his speed and mobility that no one else on the depth chart does. When an offense needs a spark, Green ca provide that and he showed it during the preseason.

Cleveland Browns fans were already primed to dissect every word uttered about Shedeur Sanders. A Monday exchange involving Todd Monken and longtime beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot gave them another reason.
Cabot reported that rookie Taylen Green "could be" the active No. 2 quarterback behind Deshaun Watson and ahead of Sanders against Jacksonville. Monken did leave that possibility open, but the full exchange focused on whether Green could have a small package of plays and whether Cleveland would dress three quarterbacks.
Monken's actual answer explains why the wording became the flashpoint. Asked about Green having a role Sunday, Monken said, "Could be. There could be a package where we have him."
He later acknowledged that dressing three quarterbacks would be "a lot." He did not announce a permanent depth-chart change, though.
But fans started dissecting the way Cabot presented it, as one said, "Mary Kay is deceptive."

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Browns fans and fans across the country.
The Cleveland Browns faced several difficult decisions as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players. Every season, the organization makes a few decisions that catch fans by surprise. Which selections at this year's deadline were particularly surprising?
Taylen Green was far from a lock to make the roster throughout the summer. As training camp came to a close and Green took some snaps in the preseason, he proved to the front office and coaching staff that he deserved a roster spot.
Dillon Gabriel was questionable to make the roster because of the fact that keeping four quarterbacks seemed like a bit too much. After a strong third preseason performance, the belief was that the Browns would either find a trade partner for Gabriel, or that he'd make the final roster outright. Instead, a curveball was thrown when he landed on injured reserve with a "back injury."
Luke Floriea not making the 53-man roster was a bit of a surprise, but it is an even bigger surprise that the team does not intend to bring him back to the practice squad. The wide receiver group was certainly more competitive this season, so it was going to be tough for Floriea to make it in that group. Most felt Floriea did enough during the preseason to earn a spot with the team in some capacity, making the decision not to add him to the practice squad all the more surprising.

Since former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton III is now available, the Cleveland Browns might be interested in signing him. This may not be good news for Shedeur Sanders if Browns reporter Jared Mueller is to be believed.
Giants Lineman Explodes Over Shedeur Sanders' 'joke' Pro Bowl Selection (Imagn Image)
Bringing in Milton will likely mean that either Sanders, Dillon Gabriel or the rookie, Taylen Green, will have to leave, because having five quarterbacks is a non-brainer. Even four quarterbacks, which the Browns currently have on their roster, is too much.
Since Milton has experience and Green is a rookie, Sanders is the most likely player to be let go if Milton is signed as per Mueller.
"Whatever you think about Sanders' talent, last year he lost a quarterback competition to the aged Joe Flacco and the undersized Gabriel," Mueller writes. "All three played poorly in 2025. Then, this year with a new coaching staff and added talent around him, Sanders lost a quarterback competition to Deshaun Watson, who hasn't been good for half a decade and is coming off missing a year and a half of football. None of that screams that the Cleveland organization is high on Sanders."

BEREA ― No one called Taylen Green on roster cutdown day. At least, no one from the Browns called the rookie quarterback.
So, that's clearly good news, right?
"It's my first time," Green said Aug. 31, "so I don't know. I hope that's good news."
Subscribe to Browns Insider newsletter
The fact Green was talking a day after the league's deadline to get to the initial 53-man limit should answer that question. However, as the day was going on, it wasn't as certain to the sixth-round draft pick as is it ultimately ended up being.

Deshaun Watson holds the Cleveland Browns' starting job heading into Week 1, with Shedeur Sanders locked in behind him as the No. 2. As both sat out the preseason finale, forgotten options Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green got the chance to play against the New England Patriots.
And they made the best use of the opportunity to torch New England on Thursday night. Their solid display puts real pressure on Coach Prime's son.
Gabriel played the entire first half and put up great numbers. He went 12-of-15 for 186 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He connected with Luke Floriea for two scores, starting with a 6-yard touchdown pass early on, and also completed big gains of 52 and 29 yards.
Green took over for the second half and led a long, 98-yard touchdown drive. He leaned heavily on his elite running ability, which matches his 4.36-second 40-yard dash from the combine. Backed by their strong performances, the Browns secured a convincing 37-13 victory.
Dillon Gabriel ready to start a play at the Browns OTA camp in Berea on May 20, 2026.

The third preseason game for the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots did not include a lot of players who will play a lot of snaps in Week 1, but it did include a lot of roster bubble guys. The amazing Browns fans were planning to tune in, with QBs Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green taking the snaps this week:
The biggest stories coming out of the game will be any injuries and how those bubble players perform with the chances that they are given. Some of the evaluation is tougher given the level of talent on the other side of the field, with the Patriots also not playing their top guys. Take everything within that perspective.
A few takeaways from Thursday Night Football off the shores of Lake Erie:
Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson have locked up the top of the depth chart, but Raheim Sanders still has to secure his spot as the third guy. A few carries in the first few series looked like Sanders, nicknamed "Rocket," is on his way to having that role.
One of Shedeur Sanders' favorite targets, Floriea just keeps making plays, including this touchdown from Gabriel:

The Cleveland Browns appear poised to make a difficult decision at quarterback, with Dillon Gabriel emerging as a potential casualty of a crowded position group. The former third-round pick faces an uncertain future as the team weighs its depth chart and prepares for the 2026 season.
Gabriel entered the NFL with significant expectations after Cleveland selected him in the third round of the 2025 draft. However, his standing within the organization has changed as competition has intensified, leaving him in a difficult position heading into final roster decisions.

The biggest obstacle is the number of quarterbacks competing for limited roster spots. Gabriel has reportedly fallen behind Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders, while rookie Taylen Green has added another young option to the equation, making it increasingly difficult for Cleveland to justify keeping everyone.
The situation became even more complicated after the Browns made their decision regarding the starting quarterback. With Watson positioned to receive the starting opportunity and Sanders also ahead of Gabriel, the former Oregon standout could find himself without a clear path to meaningful playing time in Cleveland.

Browns urged to make horrendous roster decision with Dillon Gabriel originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Cleveland Browns quarterback situation is one of the more fascinating ones to follow this preseason. With Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders in a heated QB competition, there is sure to be plenty of discourse over the winner and loser.
But behind those two polarizing QBs are a pair of very fascinating players for different reasons. Dillon Gabriel was a 2025 third-round pick, while Taylen Green is a project taken on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft. One of these QBs might not make the team.
Bleacher Report's Moe Moton proposed one solution, as he's urging the Browns to release Gabriel this summer, not trade him, in a move that would be totally horrendous.
"Dillon Gabriel is clearly the No. 3 quarterback," Moton writes. "... Teams may be willing to trade a late-round draft pick for him, but if not, he should be a prime cut candidate."

The offseason is officially over. As of now, all 32 teams have reported for training camp. The Cleveland Browns started their 2026 campaign last week when the team practiced for the first time under 1st-year head coach Todd Monken. This offseason, the team underwent multiple changes, but the one that everyone will pay close attention to is the quarterback situation. Deshaun Watson will try to salvage his football career, while Shedeur Sanders will try to prove he can be a long-term starter in the NFL, while Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green are also on the depth chart.
The last time Watson played, the tape he put up was atrocious. As for Sanders, the tape wasn't great; he showed small flashes, but it wasn't enough to outweigh the bad. Watson or Sanders will get a fair opportunity to win the job, but which quarterback will the team benefit from if they were to get the nod? GM Andrew Berry and Monken both have said it's all about production, but will the decision be more nuanced than that?
For Watson, it's his last chance to prove he can play in the NFL. Since being traded to the Browns in a blockbuster deal, he hasn't been anything close to the Pro Bowl play we saw during his tenure with the Houston Texans. An argument can be made that Watson's first full year as the starter, after missing half of the season due to his suspension the year prior, showed signs of competency. The layoff was evident, but as the 2023 season went on, Watson showed signs of the old Watson at times.
However, injuries hampered the QB relatively quickly; then he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury, but the team managed to get to the postseason despite that. Watson came back in 2024, but he was a shell of himself before tearing his Achilles. His decision-making looked worse, his athleticism began to dip, and his arm strength started to diminish. Watson didn't play the entire 2025 season as he recovered from his Achilles tear.
In terms of benefits, Cleveland gets little to no benefit starting Watson mainly due to the fact that the team is in year two of a rebuild. If winning games was the priority, and Watson won the job by a decent margin, his starting would make sense.

The Cleveland Browns QB competition is the story of the team's training camp, even if it might be overblown by many fans and media. GM Andrew Berry and HC Todd Monken have made it clear that the only thing that matters is who produces the best between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders, despite the latter's age and potential development.
Sanders has been taking on some leadership and mentorship responsibility with rookie QB Taylen Green and could really benefit from adding a quick deep ball to his ***** nal, according to one ***** yst. Watson, on the other hand, is hoping to have a bounce-back season some six years after his last quality play.
Heading into training camp, Watson reportedly had the lead in the quarterback competition. That was reiterated by The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, live from Berea, but the long-time reporter also noted the positives seen from Sanders, something noted by team reporter Nathan Zegura this offseason as well:
While there has been noted concern about the Browns offense so far in training camp, including by Monken, who noted the team's defense is making things tough for their counterparts, improvement from Sanders could push things to another level.
What do you think about the above report, and who do you think leads the QB competition as the 1st week of camp winds down?

After breaking out last season, Auburn linebacker Xavier Atkins is poised to become Auburn's next high-profile NFL draft pick.
Atkins made a statement in 2025 by leading the SEC in tackles for loss (17) and finishing third in sacks (9). Not only has Atkins become a household name in college football, but he has caught the eye of NFL scouts ahead of the new season.
Dane Brugler of The Athletic recently featured Atkins in his NFL Draft Summer Scouting series, where he ranked the best draft-eligible linebackers ahead of the 2026 season. Atkins checks in at No. 3 due to his incredible ball-carrier pursuit skills, which Brugler describes as "rabid."
The best example of Atkins' twitchy, rabid pursuit came on the Arkansas tape. Quarterback Taylen Green gave defenses trouble all season with his legs, but he managed only 14 rushing yards against Auburn — mostly because of Atkins' spying skills. Atkins finished the game with 13 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and one forced fumble.
In addition to providing a strength, Brugler also mentioned a weakness for each linebacker. Unfortunately for Atkins, his weakness is one he can not control.

Las Vegas has chimed in, and the odds for Cleveland's starting quarterback position have been updated and released. After the offseason wrapped up, the lean right now before camp is that the starting quarterback position is going to go to Deshaun Watson.
As it stands right now, Watson is the leader in the clubhouse with -215 odds to be the starting quarterback while Shedeur Sanders is in second place with +168 odds. Dillon Gabriel (+5500) and Taylen Green (+8000) round out spots three and four.
The two guys at the top of the list have separated themselves as the clear frontrunners for the Browns quarterback job. For different reasons, both quarterbacks enter the season with immense personal pressure riding on the year. For Watson, 2026 feels like it is a last-chance go at his career.
If it goes well for Watson, he can prove that he can still play quarterback in the NFL. If it doesn't, there is a very realistic chance that he never gets another chance at playing the position in the league.
For Sanders, he is fighting for his career in Cleveland. He will absolutely get another chance in the NFL if it doesn't work out in Cleveland, but this is his last chance at it.

When it comes to the Cleveland Browns, the quarterback position is the great unknown. No one knows for sure whether Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders will be the starter. Based on the team’s recent history, the most likely outcome is that both players, plus at least one more, see time as the starter for the Browns this season.
Can Watson have a bounce-back season, six years after his last good one? Can Sanders take a huge step forward after a poor rookie campaign? What role, if any, will Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green play?
Deshaun Watson

Taylen Biggs has spent years interviewing some of the biggest names in entertainment, but one celebrity continues to stand out above the rest. The 13-year-old journalist, influencer, and red carpet correspondent has spoken with actors, musicians, athletes, and entrepreneurs throughout her rapidly growing career. Yet when asked which celebrity left the strongest impression on her, Biggs immediately pointed to Selena Gomez.
During an exclusive conversation with The Blast, Taylen Biggs reflected on her 2024 interview with the singer, actress, and Rare Beauty founder, explaining that Gomez’s warmth and authenticity made the experience unforgettable.
For Biggs, what made Gomez memorable wasn’t her celebrity status. Instead, it was the way she treated the people around her. “When I interviewed her, she was just so sweet and kind,” Biggs told The Blast. “She made me feel comfortable, and the conversation just flowed so well.”
The young reporter said Gomez created an environment that immediately put her at ease, something that isn’t always guaranteed when sitting down with a global superstar. That experience ultimately changed how Biggs thinks about interviewing others.
Rather than focusing solely on getting the perfect question or headline-making answer, she began paying closer attention to how guests feel during a conversation.
