Following the San Antonio Spurs’ disappointing defeat in the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks, veteran guard De’Aaron Fox found himself at the center of criticism and speculation. His struggles on the biggest stage fueled rumors that San Antonio could consider moving on from the former All-Star.
However, Spurs general manager Brian Wright addressed those rumors directly on Tuesday. Speaking with reporters after the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft, Wright made it clear that the organization remains fully committed to Fox despite the recent noise surrounding his future.
“The confidence level is very high,” Wright said. “We have the ultimate faith in De’Aaron and who he is as a player, what he’s been for us, and what he means to this team. And there’s no wavering in that at all.”
Much of the recent criticism surrounding Fox stems from his difficult performance during the 2026 NBA Finals, where the Spurs were defeated by the Knicks in five games. Throughout the series, Fox was unable to provide the production San Antonio needed from one of its veteran stars.
