The federal interest burden has reached a new height, exceeding even the 1991 record, but **** ysts warn the risks **** ociated with servicing the ever-growing national debt today are much higher than they were 35 years ago, **** ysts warn.
A recent **** ysis from investment management firm Doubleline noted that in 2025, the federal net interest payment on the U.S.'s now-$40 trillion national debt reached 18.5% of revenue, surpassing 1991's record 18.4%. That means the U.S. is collecting nearly 19% of all taxes and revenue just to pay off interest on its ballooning debt, equivalent to $1.25 trillion—more than the entire 2026 defense budget.
Growing interest payments create a cycle: the government must borrow more just to cover the interest, leaving it less flexible to spend on infrastructure, education, and other investments that drive growth.
The amount of money needed just to pay the interest on America's debt has swelled over the last decade as interest rates have grown, with interest expense as a percentage of revenue tripling since 2015, according to global market commentator the Kobeissi Letter, citing the Congressional Budget Office, which predicts interest expense levels to climb to 25% by 2036.
"The US debt crisis is in uncharted territory," the Kobeissi Letter wrote on a social media post. "These projections **** ume no major slowdown, recession, or significant rise in Treasury yields over this period."

Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh delivered exactly what Wall Street was clamoring for this week: drawing a line in the sand against inflation while offering clarity on how the central bank would respond to rising prices.
Harvard professor and former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, Ken Rogoff, said Warsh made it clear that if the inflation data didn't improve, he's going to hike interest rates.
"That surprised me because my layman political economic view of the situation was that if the Fed could possibly put that off until after the midterms, it would be good for the Fed as an institution," Rogoff said in an interview.
"By hiking, they demonstrate independence. On the other hand, democracy is under ******* ault, and if he hikes rates, you just don't know what the consequences are going to be."
Rogoff predicts that if the Fed raises rates at its September policy meeting, the central bank will face fierce backlash from President Trump. Following Warsh's speech, market odds for a September rate hike surged to 60%, up from 35% the previous day.

Broncos Country won't like this, but Breech predicts that to happen right out of the gate for Denver. He has the Broncos losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 on Monday Night Football.

The Brooklyn Nets came into the 2026 NBA offseason with the goal of improving the team as much as possible following a 2025-26 season in which they finished with a 20-62 record. Brooklyn's biggest move of the summer was trading for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle, but there are some who still believe that the Nets will be at the bottom of the Eastern Conference next season.
"The Nets ... are also here, but Brooklyn did add former All-NBA forward Julius Randle to help provide legitimacy to its rebuild," Jamal Collier wrote for ESPN when discussing where the Nets will finish next season. ESPN's NBA insiders made prediction for all 30 NBA teams and next year, Brooklyn is projected to finish with a 18-64 record, giving them the worst record in the league in this scenario.
"With the league's newest draft lottery rules and the relegation zone in effect, the five teams in this category won't have as much incentive to lose. How that will affect the bottom of the standings will be a storyline all season long," Collier continued. As Collier noted, the new version of the NBA Draft Lottery with the relegation zone will take effect next season, but the Nets have a unique circumstance that may affect their thinking.
The Nets owe their 2027 first-round pick to the Houston Rockets and if they are not trying to get the pick back, they may choose to be as good as possible next season since they will be getting the Rockets' pick. After adding Randle, Brooklyn now has a 1-2 punch with him and sharpshooting forward Michael Porter Jr. that should make them more competitive than they were last season.
However, there are other pundits, sportsbooks like BetMGM, and Brooklyn's fanbase that believe that the Nets are going to win more than 18 games, so next season will be interesting to watch for multiple reasons. If Brooklyn is going to be as bad as ESPN predicts, then the hope is that they aren't blown out as much and that Egor Demin and Mikel Brown Jr. continue to get better.

It's time for Lululemon Athletica (NASDAQ: LULU) to show us if its financial results can stretch as well as some of its signature yoga gear and fitness apparel. Lululemon reports its 2026 fiscal second-quarter results after the market close on Sept. 3.
Expectations are low, and understandably so for a stock that has been cut nearly in half from its December high. Lululemon's own guidance from early June calls for $2.450 billion to $2.475 billion in revenue, a 2% to 3% decline. Its per-share profit forecast of $1.76 to $1.81 for the quarter is well below the $3.10 it posted for the same quarter last summer.

For a football-starved audience, early August cannot come soon enough. Between the NFL, college and fantasy football, there's no shortage of reasons to be excited about what is undeniably America's favorite sport. For gamers, the excitement is two-fold as August's arrival also brings the latest Madden release — and with it the annual Yahoo Sports simulation.
If you're new to the series, we simulate an entire NFL season in "Madden" — Madden NFL 27 in this case — and break down the winners, losers, surprises and disappointments from the virtual year that was. The ground rules for the simulation remain the same: one random team is selected (Chargers) and we start at the regular season using "simple" settings in Franchise Mode.
Some years, the simulation is surprisingly accurate. Other years — like last year — it's jarringly off, so take all of this with a grain of salt.
With all of that said, let's see how Madden predicts the 2026 season.

More recently, it has been forced to up that figure to $19 billion -- not an insignificant change.

Wedbush **** yst Dan Ives, for example, believes Tesla will ultimately control 80% of the market. Yet Tesla has repeatedly faced challenges scaling its robotaxi business.
