On Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, shares of electric-car maker Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) rose almost 6% to close at a record $695. More than 200 million shares changed hands that session (more than $131 billion of stock), making it one of the busiest trading days in the company's history.
The buying wasn't optional for everyone. S&P Dow Jones Indices had scheduled Tesla to join the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) at its full weight before the market opened the following Monday. And the addition was based on that Friday's closing prices. In other words, every fund tracking the index effectively paid $695.

Nearly six years later, that $10,000 would have become about $15,700. The same money in an S&P 500 index fund would have grown to about $20,500 before dividends.

Vivian Wilson's newest co-star is a humanoid robot, and she spends much of their time together finding increasingly strange jobs for it to do.
The 22-year-old model fronts Desigual's Fall 2026 "Born to Disobey" campaign alongside DESI84, a robotic **** istant that struggles once Wilson pushes it beyond its programming. She walks it on a leash, uses it as a golf tee and repeatedly tries to teach it how to **** ounce Desigual before ending the film with the line, "Some things aren't meant to be fixed."
Wilson's criticism of artificial intelligence goes beyond the joke. She told PEOPLE that AI is taking work from creative professionals while creating environmental costs, and she argued that AI generated art lacks the human emotion and intention behind creative work.
Her casting has also prompted comparisons with her estranged father, Elon Musk, whose companies include artificial intelligence venture xAI and Tesla, which is developing the Optimus humanoid robot. TMZ interpreted the campaign as a shot at Musk, but Wilson and Desigual have not said DESI84 represents him or Optimus.
Wilson said concerns about employment were among the reasons she wanted to speak about artificial intelligence through the campaign.

Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is moving further into the autonomous-driving market as it has started offering robotaxi rides using its Cybercab. The company hosted a Cybercab launch event in Austin on September 3.
Following the event, Goldman Sachs maintained a Neutral rating on Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA). The bank has a 12-month price target of $360 on the stock. The firm sees an illustrative upside scenario of about $500 and a downside scenario of roughly $150.
Goldman Sachs said the Cybercab could give the company a cost advantage in the autonomous-vehicle market. However, the firm believes the company's ability to scale its robotaxi business will depend more on software performance than on the cost of manufacturing the vehicle.
Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) said it has completed 1 million miles of unsupervised robotaxi operations. The company is also looking for operators interested in owning Cybercab fleets, running hubs and related infrastructure, or hosting robotaxi events.
Goldman Sachs highlighted the company's focus on developing a low-cost autonomous vehicle. The company's unboxed manufacturing approach and camera-only sensor system could help improve the economics of its robotaxi business. According to Goldman estimates, if Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) can achieve its targeted Cybercab cost of $20,000 to $30,000 at scale, it could have a potential $0.05 to $0.30 per-mile cost advantage over autonomous-vehicle competitors with upfront vehicle costs of $50,000 to $100,000.

Ford Motor Company (F) is giving investors a fresh reason to revisit its electric vehicle (EV) strategy as the automaker prepares to launch the Fathom, an affordable electric pickup aimed squarely at the mass market. Ford reportedly wants to sell more than 100,000 Fathom trucks in its first year, a target that would put the model in rare company. That'd make it the first non-Tesla (TSLA) EV to cross the 100,000-unit mark for a single U.S. model in one year.
The Fathom is expected to start at $30,000, with customer orders opening in early 2027 and production beginning in the first quarter at Ford's Louisville, Kentucky, plant. Moreover, Ford is building the truck around a new Universal EV platform and a redesigned manufacturing process intended to dramatically lower costs. CEO Jim Farley has described the effort as a potential "Model T moment" for the company.

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was rewarded in August with a three-year, $67.5 million contract extension, a deal that made him the highest-paid running back in NFL history as he enters his fourth season. He is one of the core pieces on this offense for the Lions.
Gibbs is primed for a huge season after the Lions traded running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans in March. As the featured three-down back, it is quite possible that Gibbs can carry the ball more than 300 times in the 2026 NFL season.
Candace Pedraza of Side Lion Report listed five winners and three losers from the offseason as Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season approaches. Gibbs landed on the winners side alongside the rookie class, Aidan Hutchinson, Isaac TeSlaa and the team's undrafted free agents. Pedraza wrote:
"Gibbs has an excellent shot at winning OPOY or MVP, or both, this season. He's not only about to see a major uptick in carries this season with the trade of Montgomery going down this offseason, but the Lions' "light" schedule should make his ability to break some rushing records fairly simple. That's all ****** uming, of course, that the Lions' offensive line makes his life this easy.
But, coming off a historic extension and getting handed the keys to the ground game should be extra motivation for a competitor like Gibbs this season."

Justine Wilson claims Elon Musk referred to the mothers of his 14 children as "breeders" in a new documentary
Wilson, Musk's first wife, claims he taught her the term "gaslighting" and called himself the "alpha" in their relationship
Musk and his legal team have criticized the documentary, calling it biased and threatening legal action against its creators
Elon Musk's ex-wife Justine Wilson opened up about her experience during their relationship.
In Alex Gibney's new documentary Musk, which is set to be released on Oct. 16, Wilson claimed that the Tesla founder, 55, referred to the mothers of his 14 children as "breeders." Wilson, who was married to Musk from 2000 to 2008 and welcomed six children with him, said that for the tech mogul, "the breeders are interchangeable."

In a series of posts on the social media platform X on Monday, the Gerber Kawasaki co-founder shared his view on CEO Elon Musk's vision about the Cybercab being a crossover between Airbnb and Uber Technologies Inc.. "So tesla sells the cybercab to other "fleet managers" and takes a cut of the revenue for managing the system plus the sale price," the investor said in his post.

Good morning. Stocks fell on Monday as long-dated bond yields continued to climb amid surging oil prices, raising concerns that the Federal Reserve will need to hike rates at its policy meeting next week.
The 10-year Treasury (^TNX) crept up to 4.8% while Brent crude futures (BZ=F) topped $98 per barrel amid continued Iran-US tensions in the Middle East. Goldman Sachs ******* ysts see a case for oil reaching $120.
Here's a check of the markets in the first few minutes of trading, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
Tech stocks (XLK) rose as Nvidia (NVDA) and other chip stocks gained slightly. The Energy (XLE) sector rose more than 1%, while Financials (XLF) and Consumer Discretionary (XLY), which are more sensitive to interest rates, slipped.
Here are some other notable stocks that Yahoo Finance readers are viewing this morning: Tesla (TSLA), Sandisk (SNDK), and Alibaba (BABA).

When a subject has been as exhaustively covered — and as infamous — as Elon Musk, the electric-car-entrepreneur-turned-rocket-man-turned-richest-billionaire-in-the-universe-turned-Twitter-disruptor-turned-DOGE-destroyer-turned-God-only-knows-what-he'll-do-next, reviews of a documentary about him tend to lead by plucking out the film's incendiary bits of investigative reportage, the ones that feel worthy of a news headline. "Musk," Alex Gibney's 3-hour-and-45-minute documentary about the tech bro who would be king, has a handful of those.
The biggest revelation, to me, was the film's detailed history of Musk's attempt to put a self-driving car on the market — a technology that's sure to be here at some point, though Musk, in his race to be first, was far too eager to announce that it had already happened. Tesla released its Autopilot driver-assist system in 2015 (and then the Full Self-Driving Beta program in 2020), marketing the new technology with ads that exaggerated the car's powers. And so people were suckered. From the outset, there were accidents. More than 60 fatalities have been linked to Tesla's driver-assistance systems. Talk about something that could put a dent in your image! But Musk, for the most part, succeeded in hushing up the lawsuits, the federal investigations, and the fatal crashes, which were evidence of a recklessness that should have given the whole world pause.

On September 4, Bruker (NASDAQ:BRKR) said its energy and supercon technologies unit, Bruker Energy & Supercon Technologies (or BEST), had struck a supply collaboration with Luvata Materials & Solutions to scale up production of RRP superconductors for magnetic confinement fusion. The deal lands right as governments and private developers from Europe to South Korea race to build fusion demonstration plants, and it comes a month after Bruker's core scientific instruments business showed its first real signs of stabilizing. Two very different stories are converging inside one stock.
The Luvata tie-up is not Bruker's first rodeo in fusion. BEST and Luvata previously supplied materials and expertise to ITER, the international fusion megaproject, and to the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, two of the most advanced superconducting plasma facilities ever built. Their RRP superconductors, wires built with the Rod-Restack Process to withstand field strengths between 12 and 20 Tesla, already run inside CERN's Large Hadron Collider and in ultra-high field NMR magnets. That track record matters now because fusion programs are ramping across Europe, the Americas, China, ***** an and South Korea, and Gauss Fusion has already begun evaluating RRP superconductors for its Gauss Industrial Demonstrator and GIGA power plant platform.
The segment is already delivering. On August 4, Bruker reported that BEST revenue climbed 11.9% year over year to $74.2 million in the second quarter, with organic growth of 8.9% net of intercompany eliminations, while first-half BEST revenue rose 12.3% to $141 million. That growth showed up in Bruker's bottom line too. Non-GAAP operating margin expanded to 14.1% from 9% a year earlier, and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share grew to $0.49 from $0.32, results strong enough that management kept its full-year non-GAAP EPS growth target of 15% to 17% intact.
None of that shows up on a GAAP basis. Bruker's second-quarter GAAP operating results swung to a $65.3 million loss, versus $11.9 million of GAAP operating income a year earlier, dragged down largely by a $134.9 million non-cash goodwill charge. GAAP diluted earnings per share swung to a loss of $0.41 from a profit of $0.05, and for the first half of 2026 the company posted a GAAP diluted loss per share of $0.39. Impairments do not spend cash, but they are a reminder that some of what Bruker paid for in past acquisitions is now being written down.

Dell Technologies (DELL) stock spiked almost $100 this week after its Sept. 1 Q2 earnings release, following strong earnings and free cash flow (FCF) performance. But it's near my prior FCF-based price target ($525.71) from a month ago. Moreover, ***** ysts' PTs are only slightly higher (+7.6%).

This business continues to live in the spotlight, which will certainly result in persistently heightened volatility for investors to deal with. Where will Tesla be in five years?
On Sept. 3, Tesla held an invite-only event launching its much-hyped Cybercab vehicle. The car design, which comes with no pedals and no steering wheel, was revealed nearly two years ago in October 2024. However, the company finally introduced a small number of Cybercabs to its Austin robotaxi fleet. There are 250 vehicles in the total robotaxi fleet (also including model Y's) that Tesla operates both in Texas and Florida.

Apple (AAPL) stock has seen a reversal of fortunes of sorts. It underperformed the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) in the first half of the year but has since raced ahead and is now outperforming the tech-heavy index. Apple's price action over the previous couple of years was dampened by lingering concerns that it was lagging in the artificial intelligence (AI) race as investors chased names seen as AI winners.
However, the situation has flipped over the last couple of months. Investors are now getting increasingly wary of tech companies' ever-rising capex to build AI infrastructure. For context, among its Magnificent 7 peers, Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN), and Tesla (TSLA) raised their respective 2026 capex budgets, while Meta Platforms (META) raised the lower end of the guidance by $5 billion. However, it maintained the upper end at $145 billion.

Musk's $30 trillion AI forecast props up Tesla's 371 trailing P/E, but NVIDIA warns its entire supply chain is already running flat out.
Electricity and the internet took decades to diffuse through the economy, making Musk's 18-month productivity timeline roughly a decade optimistic by historical base rates.
Just released. Our ***** ysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.
Elon Musk told the G20 this week that artificial intelligence will "probably increase the global economy by 20 to 30%. That's my rough estimate, meaning on the order of 20 to 30 trillion per year."
This matters because Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is no longer valued as a car company. It trades at a $356.09 price with a trailing P/E near 371x, which only makes sense if you believe autonomy and humanoid robotics are close. A CEO telling world leaders that robotics is about to reshape productivity is talking his book, in the most literal sense of the phrase.

Calendar dates are not supposed to matter in efficient markets. Stock prices should reflect a company's cash flows, as well as sentiment toward macroeconomic variables such as interest rates. The fact that Labor Day is right around the corner shouldn't matter. Yet for nearly a century, one month has exhibited a noticeably different pattern from the rest of the year.
September is the only month in which the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has posted a negative long-run average return, down roughly 1.1% between 1928 and 2025. While there is no single reason for September's historical weakness, much of the declines are attributed to portfolio managers returning from summer vacations and rebalancing their portfolios. This means liquidity that had thinned out during July and August has to absorb new selling pressure.

Investors should care because the September Effect is influential enough to manifest in even the most crowded growth trades. Let's explore what that could mean for artificial intelligence (AI) stocks.
One practical reason to notice patterns around September is concentration risk. When a handful of richly valued growth stocks dominate the S&P 500, a seasonally weak month can turn into a harsher de-risking event rather than a gentle period of digestion. That is the setting in which AI stocks now sit. More specifically, the largest AI companies, known as the "Magnificent Seven" -- Nvidia, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla, and Meta Platforms -- now make up nearly 34% of the S&P 500's value.

I keep hearing people say they want to own Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) stock but are waiting for a better price, and I understand the instinct, because the stock has swung between $297.38 to $498.83 over the past year. The problem is that Tesla is already 30% off its high while deliveries grew 25% and energy storage jumped 40%, so the discount everyone is waiting for may already be here.

Tesla is down roughly 17% over the past four weeks, and I think that pullback is the entry point rather than a reason to wait for a deeper one.
Tesla trades today roughly 25% below its 52-week high, and about 23% above its 52-week low. Over the past 12 months, the stock has risen by 9.5%, meaning a year of operational progress has produced half the average price appreciation of the S&P 500, which is up by about 19%. Tesla's forward price-to-earnings ratio sits near 207, with a trailing multiple of about 340, so ***** ody is buying the stock based on its current earnings math. If you're buying it at all, you're doing so based on your view of what the company is building.

Second-quarter deliveries hit 480,126 electric vehicles (EVs), up 25% year over year, compared with 451,758 vehicles produced. The energy storage business deployed 13.5 GWh of capacity in the quarter, up 40% from 9.6 GWh in the prior-year quarter and up 53% from the 8.8 GWh it deployed in 2026's first quarter. In the commodities ****** et class in August 2026, Ethereum was up more than 30%, and Bitcoin, cocoa, and world sugar futures gained more than 20%. Silver, heating oil, crack spreads, corn, CBOT wheat, and cotton were up between 10% and 20%. ICE FCOJ was the only commodity to post a double-digit percentage decline. The DJIA, S&P 500, NASDAQ Composite, and Russell 2000 indices were mostly higher. The long bond futures edged higher. The September dollar index futures fell by 0.40%. The long bond futures rose by 0.40%. A lower dollar index and slightly lower interest rates were a bullish signal for commodity prices, and most raw material futures posted gains. Long-term interest rates edged lower, even though the Fed left the Fed Funds Rate unchanged at the most recent FOMC meeting.
The lack of a settlement between Iran and the United States, along with a tightening of the economic noose around Iran, drove energy prices higher. At the end of August, the hostilities were escalating as the U.S. attempt to use economic weapons has caused backlash from Iran. Crude oil, oil products, crack spreads, natural gas, Chicago ethanol swaps, and Rotterdam coal posted gains in August.

The US bond market is experiencing an accelerating selloff that has pushed Treasury yields to their highest levels since early 2025, with the 10-year yield climbing to approximately 4.78%.
This selloff is being compounded by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, where renewed military exchanges between the US and Iran have sent Brent crude (CBX26) above $91 per barrel, reigniting inflation fears and reinforcing expectations that major central banks will need to maintain or tighten restrictive monetary stances.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been guiding investors to focus on his company's EV autonomy software as a main driver for Tesla's future fortunes. The next big step in that regard is coming on Thursday, and anticipation looked to be helping drive shares higher today.
The invite-only Cybercab event in Austin is being billed as offering exclusive access to the steering-wheel- and pedal-free vehicle. Investors may hear more from that gathering about Tesla's progress and plans for that brand-new product.
Tesla's full self-driving (FSD) technology gained approval for a limited robotaxi rollout in Nevada two weeks ago, helping to expand its footprint and set the stage for an eventual Cybercab fleet.
