Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray exited the Vikings' win over the Green Bay Packers in the first quarter on Sept. 13 with a concussion after a scary hit from Green Bay safety Javon Bullard.
Murray was sliding at the Vikings 35-yard line nine minutes into the quarter when Bullard and Packers defensive end Lukas Van Ness went to tackle him. Murray took a big hit. Bullard received a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty.
Murray's status isn't certain. He will have to pass concussion protocol before he returns for Minnesota. Carson Wentz replaced Murray at QB for the Vikings.
The Vikings were obviously frustrated with the hit, as was social media, with many slamming the Packers for the incident after the game.
Minnesota rallied from a 22-10 deficit in the third quarter to win 39-22.

Jared Curtis has entered Vanderbilt football's game against Delaware at FirstBank Stadium.
Curtis entered after Blaze Berlowitz ran the Commodores' first two drives. On those drives, both of which ended in punts, Berlowitz was 0-for-4 passing and did not have a carry. The score was tied, 0-0, with 4:44 remaining in the first quarter.
Curtis was a five-star recruit and the No. 2 quarterback in the class of 2026 who flipped to Vanderbilt from Georgia. He is an in-state product from Nashville Christian School. He battled with Berlowitz for the starting job throughout the preseason, but Berlowitz was selected to start both the first two games.
Coach Clark Lea committed to playing both quarterbacks in the first two contests. Against Austin Peay in the season opener Sept. 5, Curtis went 7-for-9 passing for 60 yards and rushed three times for 22 yards. He did not commit any turnovers and was not sacked.
Berlowitz was 11-for-16 against the Governors for 149 yards and ran 11 times for 47 yards. He also did not commit any turnovers and his lone sack came on a 2-point conversion attempt.

On the latest episode of BBC Radio Leeds' Don't Go To Bed Just Yet, reporter and commentator Adam Pope was alongside Jonny Buchan and Kaiser Chiefs' bassist Simon Rix to discuss his recent chat with the Whites managing director Robbie Evans.
Pope said: "He [Evans] spoke for the best part of an hour to the local press. The mood was really good, as you'd expect because they'd instigated this sit-down on the back of the window, so I think it's fair to say the mood was 'look, we're on the back of a really good window'.
"It was a good window and a good deadline day. That was the context in which this was done."
Pope said one of the key headlines was the discussion around Daniel Farke's contract situation, on which Rix added: "I think it'd be naive to think there have never been any negotiations.
"I've said that I didn't think it was a worry that it hasn't been signed, even with the year left. I don't think that's a problem."

Katie Lou Samuelson missed all of last season in the WNBA due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Now she'll miss the end of the 2026 season, also because of a knee issue.
The Seattle Storm announced Friday that the former UConn women's basketball star will miss the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season after undergoing an arthroscopic procedure on her left knee on Thursday. The team did not state the reason why Samuelson had the procedure or when she's expected back on the court.
Seattle has four more games remaining this season and resumes game action (the WNBA remains on its World Cup break) on Thursday, Sept. 17 against Las Vegas. The Storm are one of seven teams not to make the WNBA Playoffs this season.
Samuelson signed with the Storm ahead of the 2025 season but tore the ACL in her right knee during training camp that spring. She missed all of last season recovering before making her return to the court on May 30 (Seattle's ninth game of the 2026 season). Davide Frattesi has long wanted to play for Juventus, and the midfielder was keen to join the Bianconeri during the last transfer window. He was reportedly willing to wait for the club to make a formal approach, hoping the move to the Allianz Stadium would eventually materialise.
Frattesi had previously rejected Juventus when he was playing for Sassuolo, but he was ready to make amends and believed the opportunity to join the Turin giants was one worth pursuing. Luciano Spalletti had also become one of the best managers he had worked with, adding another important factor to the situation.
Juventus had made enquiries about Frattesi and appeared interested in bringing him to the club. The midfielder was prepared to wait for them to make their move, while Inter Milan were also open to allowing him to leave during that transfer window.
However, the Bianconeri ultimately failed to follow up on their initial interest with a formal attempt to complete the transfer. Despite Frattesi's willingness to wait for Juventus, the club did not push the situation forward, and the opportunity eventually disappeared.
Instead, Frattesi moved to Lazio, where he has enjoyed an impressive start to the season. The midfielder has quickly established himself as an important player for the Eagles and has been in outstanding scoring form.

Barcelona have received a timely boost with Gavi back in contention for upcoming matches against Feyenoord and Levante after recovering from the knee problem that briefly interrupted his start to the season.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 22-year-old midfielder is now expected to feature in Hansi Flick's rotation plans, beginning with Wednesday's meeting with Feyenoord.
Gavi returned to the squad at the weekend after missing Barcelona's home victories over Athletic Club and Rayo Vallecano because of discomfort.
He was named among the substitutes for Sunday's 5-0 win at Valencia but did not enter the game. His presence on the bench was nevertheless another indication that the injury is behind him.
Gavi's injury initially raised concerns after Barcelona's opening-day victory at Elche.

Aryna Sabalenka avoided the stumbles that top seeds encountered during Saturday's third-round action at the US Open by dispatching Taylor Townsend to move on to the quarterfinals.
The women's No. 1 seed faced a battle from the unseeded American, but eventually won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday and will face the winner between No. 6 Linda Nosková and No. 11 Marta Kostyuk next.
Townsend, who advanced to the fourth round by getting past No. 15 Diana Shnaider on Friday, wasn't overwhelmed by Sabalenka's serve as many of her opponents often are and broke twice early on in the first set. But she hurt herself by hitting several returns wide or long.
This story will be updated with more information.

The Americans open the World Cup with a a preliminary round-robin matchup against China on Friday, Sept. 4, to kick off Group D play, which features Italy and Czechia, in addition to USA and China.
Team USA has been dominant in this tournament, winning nine of the last 12 FIBA World Cups, including four straight. This year's team will be coached by Kara Lawson and features rising American stars like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers.
Both teams had to make last minute adjustments to their rosters. Four-time WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson, who was also the MVP of the 2022 World Cup, and Kelsey Plum won't play for Team USA in Germany due to health reasons. Meanwhile, two-time Olympian and Dallas Wings center Li Yueru won't suit up for the Chinese national team at the World Cup because her passport was lost in the mail, preventing her from traveling to Berlin for the international tournament. Yueru helped China capture a silver medal in the 2022 World Cup.

Katie Taylor finished preparation for her Croke Park farewell against the unbeaten Flora Pili by inviting a young fan into the ring to train with her.
Once Taylor had completed her session at Wednesday's open workout, she picked out Clodagh Keating from the crowd at random, gloved up her right hand and then coached her to throw some shots while moving.
Keating, a 10-year-old aspiring boxer from Dublin who has been learning the basics in classes, burst into tears at the prospect of being in the ring with her idol and then had her hand held aloft when the session was over.
Taylor is aiming to become a three-time undisputed world champion by defeating Pili with a sold-out 80,000 crowd in attendance for her final fight before retiring.

Barcelona had no doubts regarding signing Jesse Bisiwu this summer, as the board and management ratified him as a top talent who is yet to erupt.
The club have been following the Belgian starlet for a long time now, and decided that it is best to bring him in immediately and mould him to their liking. Deco, in particular, was very keen on recruiting him.
Since arriving, Bisiwu has exceeded expectations as he scored twice in pre-season against Basel for Hansi Flick's side and then went on to score for the Barça Atletic team against Reus FC as well.
Bureaucratic issues have prevented Bisiwu from playing for the first team so far, and Barcelona have decided to keep the player on a subsidiary team registration for this season before handing him a merit-based promotion.

The Chicago White Sox are having a pretty magical season. Despite losing more than 100 games in each of the last three seasons, the ChiSox suddenly find themselves in first-place in the AL Central with fewer than 30 games remaining.
It amost feels like too quick a turnaround. This team would've needed multiple high-end acquisitions or multiple elite prospects to graduate. They've certainly had a few between Colson Montgomery, Braden Montgomery and Munetaka Murakami, but it didn't seem like that would be enough to turn around what has been a basement-dwelling franchise in just one year.
It's almost like ... they've been the beneficiaries of divine intervention.
On Thursday, Aug. 27, the team gave renowned fan and Chicago native Pope Leo XIV his own White Sox-branded mitre (the tall, ceremonial hat worn by the Pope), a solid offering to someone who perhaps was sending daily prayers to his favorite franchise.

Mason Miller's unreal homerless streak came to an end in the top of the ninth inning at Petco Park on Tuesday night via a go-ahead solo shot from Oneil Cruz, the only run of the game in the San Diego Padres' 1-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Up until then, Miller hadn't given up a home run in over a calendar year.
After the game, Padres manager Craig Stammen summed up the rare misstep from baseball's most dominant closer in a few words.
"He's human," Stammen told reporters. "Part of the gig when you're pitching. Every once in a while, someone's gonna get you."
Or, as Miller put it when his manager's comments were relayed to him, "Humans can be idiots sometimes."
"Tip your hat," Miller told reporters. "Good swing. Crushed it obviously. But I just can't be throwing that pitch in that spot."

The New England Patriots invested some premium capital in their defensive tackle position during Mike Vrabel's first offseason as head coach. Not only did they sign free agents Milton Williams and Khyiris Tonga, they also selected Joshua Farmer in the fourth round of the draft.
Williams and Tonga are pretty clear projections for 2026; the former is a starter, the second in Kansas City now. Farmer's outlook, on the other hand, is somewhat uncertain.
Name: Joshua Farmer
Position: Defensive tackle/Interior defensive line

With the Mariners showing no consistent signs in the second half that they'd put their first-half struggles behind them, many fans have put to bed their hopes for the playoffs, especially as the team entered into this particularly grueling stretch of a long road trip combined with playing three very tough NL teams: the Brewers, Cubs, and now the Phillies. Both the Brewers and Cubs series featured brutal, humiliating losses, the Brewers a historic 22-0 drubbing and the Cubs – despite a series win thanks to scraping out wins in the first two games – a game that saw multiple position players have to take the mound in a 19-2 loss. But just as the Mariners bounced back to ******* a game from the Brewers after making team history (derogatory), they again bounced back tonight to surprise the Phillies with a dominant 9-2 win that also made history (complimentary).
It certainly didn't look like things were going to go this way. The game got off to a rough start for Logan Gilbert, who walked Kyle Schwarber on five pitches to lead off the game. He struck out Trea Turner on a spicy 98 mph heater, but then surrendered back-to-back singles to Bryce Harper and Luis Arraez to load the bases with just one out. To Gilbert's credit, though, he didn't wilt under pressure, continuing to execute pitch after pitch. Alex Boehm hit into an RBI groundout on a slow roller that could have been an inning-ending double play, and then Gilbert bullied Bryson Stott on four pitches, striking him out on another spicy heater. In the end, the Phillies only got one run out of all that traffic, and the only real damage was done to Logan's pitch count, at 29.
But Zack Wheeler had his own struggles in the bottom of the first, and would finish the inning with a similarly inflated pitch count (33) but significantly more damage on the scoreboard thanks to two Mariners home runs. MULTI-run home runs, even, which is delightful. Randy Arozarena led off the game with a walk, followed by a sharply-hit single from Dominic Canzone (110 EV), and then Julio Rodríguez – who scuffled in the Cubs series, going 1-for-13 with seven strikeouts – tattooed a splitter that caught too much plate for a home run into the visitor's bullpen.

And then, and this is the part you'll really like, the Mariners didn't stop there. So often we've seen this team score a few early and then take their foot off the gas. Instead, they kept the pressure on Wheeler in the first, with Josh Naylor singling into right field (but then getting thrown out and also bonked on the head trying to stretch it into a double, no Josh!), and then Taylor Ward refusing to chase off the plate for a walk to extend Wheeler's inning. That brought up Cal Raleigh, and Wheeler tried to dispense of him with a fastball up, a pitch Cal has been consistently missing this season. He did not miss this one:

A Nazareth, Pennsylvania native, Peyton Falzone was originally committed to Penn State's 2026 recruiting class, but he opted to flip his commitment to Auburn last summer. He remained in the Tigers' class until December 3, 2025, two days before Matt Campbell was officially announced as Penn State's football coach. For a moment in time, Falzone and Jackson Ford were the only two members of the Nittany Lions' 2026 class.
Falzone was recruited as a quarterback, but during fall camp, the coaching staff has him transitioning to tight end. He has added some muscle this offseason and has been working with the tight end coaches:
Moving back to quarterback in the future is still on the table, but the coaching staff clearly sees another way he can contribute to the team right now. Falzone is unlikely to see much playing time this season with a logjam at tight end, though the future looks bright.
Only 14 more days until Penn State's season opener against Marshall!

Gabriel Pirani scored his first goal for San Diego FC last Wednesday, though it wasn't enough to avoid a 3-1 loss to the Portland Timbers at Providence Park. The Brazilian midfielder, who came through Santos' academy and later starred for Fluminense, found the net in the MLS clash but saw his side fall short.
"I'm happy to have scored my first goal for San Diego. Of course we'd have liked to leave the field with a different result, but we'll keep working to get back to picking up points in the MLS," Pirani said. "Individually, I've been feeling good at the start of this journey and I'm adapting more and more to the club and the squad. I'm sure this goal will be important to give me even more confidence and, above all, to allow me to keep helping the team on the pitch."
San Diego FC's move for Pirani could be worth up to $1 million in General Allocation Money. DC United received $350,000 guaranteed in 2026, with a further $650,000 available if the midfielder hits performance targets. Washington also kept a percentage of any future transfer fee.
Before the switch, Pirani spent three years with DC United after arriving on loan from Santos in July 2023. The club exercised its purchase option in early 2024 following a strong debut stretch. That season he played 36 games, scoring six goals with one **** ist, then followed up with eight goals and three **** ists in 29 matches the next year.
Pirani's path to MLS ran through Santos, Cuiabá and Fluminense. Developed in Santos' youth system, he made his professional debut in 2021 before a standout 2023 campaign with Fluminense, where he helped the club win the Taça Guanabara, the Campeonato Carioca and the Copa Libertadores.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has announced he is pulling out of the upcoming U.S. Open due to a knee injury.
Sinner, last year's U.S. Open runner-up and 2024 champion, said in a social media post that over the past few days he's been doing on-court work, but that he needs more recovery time.
"Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year. We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realized that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue.
"I'm obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart. I was very much looking forward to coming back and playing in the electric atmosphere in front of the great fans there."
The 25-year-old Sinner has been out of action since winning Wimbledon last month.

Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson seems to have gotten some brutal trolling in at Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders during a joint practice between the Bills and Browns on Thursday in Ohio.
As Sanders dukes it out with Deshaun Watson for the team's top quarterback job, Gardner-Johnson yelled "check-down king" in Sanders' direction while the latter was on the sideline during the joint practice, per Browns reporter Tom Withers.
While Gardner-Johnson wasn't practicing, he seems to have still wanted to get in Sanders' head. While he didn't say it directly to his face, it sure seems like the trolling was directed at the former Colorado quarterback.
We're not else who this trolling would have been for unless Watson was also on the sideline. The fact that Withers pointed directly to Sanders makes us think he was the only quarterback in the area.
Sanders could possibly win the job in Cleveland, even if Watson may have the edge right now.

STATE COLLEGE, PA(WBRE/WYOU)-- The Williamsport Crosscutters grabbed its 40th win of the season Wednesday night with a 4-3 win over the State College Spikes. The Cutters scored two runs in the eighth inning to secure the comeback win.
Williamsport scored first on Wednesday night. Nick Barone drove in Chris Stanfield with a sacrifice fly to center field in the top of the second inning. James McCoy extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third with a solo home run. The blast was McCoy's eighth of the season.
State College scored three times in the seventh inning to take the late lead. It did not last long though, as Jake Zitella hit a triple in the top of the eighth to reclaim the lead at 4-3. Zitella drove in both Barone and Stanfield with the three-bagger.
Matthew Mariano picked up the win in relief on Wednesday. Mariano tossed 2.1 innings, striking out six of seven batters. The righty improves to 3-0 on the season, lowering his ERA to 2.32 for the year.
The Crosscutters continue its Little League road trip on Thursday. Williamsport wraps up its series with State College before heading to West Virginia for a three-game set with the Black Bears.

Drew Allar shined in his first preseason games with the Pittsburgh Steelers following an up-and-down journey at Penn State. The third-round quarterback led touchdown drives on each of his first three possessions in a Steelers uniform and completed 10-of-13 passes for 153 yards, two passing touchdowns, and a rushing score. It was a good first impression for Allar, who looked comfortable in the pocket and didn't miss the easy throws he was knocked for in college.
Despite the strong first game, albeit the preseason, it didn't make former NFL offensive lineman and current FOX ******* yst Geoff Schwartz more optimistic that he is going to be the Steelers' next franchise quarterback.
"Drew Allar is unlikely to get a chance to be good in the NFL because he's not going to get an opportunity to play," Schwartz said via FOX Sports Radio. "If he's the third-string guy, when is he ever gonna play?"
Aaron Rodgers is solidified as the 2026 starting quarterback, and Will Howard continues to battle Mason Rudolph for the backup spot.
Allar is surely going to make the roster, but it doesn't appear that he's in play to be QB2. The lack of reps could hurt Allar's chances of proving to the Steelers that he's their guy moving forward, and Schwartz sees the Steelers picking a quarterback in 2027.

Everyone ***** ociated with the New York Jets collectively held their breath at Monday's training camp practice. Superstar running back Breece Hall suffered a non-contact injury. It was eventually revealed that Hall suffered a minor groin injury, and will be sidelined for weeks, per multiple reports.
The Jets dodged a major concern. A non-contact injury could have carried a multi-month timeline, or even worse. With the crisis totally averted, the Jets must place Hall in bubble wrap for the remainder of training camp and the preseason.
There are less than two weeks remaining in training camp. The Jets have two preseason games left, with the finale scheduled for August 28th against the New York Giants. It goes without saying that Hall shouldn't see any preseason action.
Once the Jets reduce their roster to 53 by August 30th's deadline, focus will immediately shift to preparing for Week 1 versus the Tennessee ***** ans on September 13th. Early September is when the Jets should target for Hall's full-go return. Hopefully he's healthy enough to participate when practice shifts to a regular-season schedule.
The Jets escaped disaster at Monday's practice when Hall went down untouched. Now, Aaron Glenn and staff must exercise maximum caution. Hall's focus needs to solely be centered around getting healthy for the ***** ans game.

Ketel Marte was placed on the restricted list by the Arizona Diamondbacks ahead of their matchup against the Boston Red Sox on Monday, Aug. 17.
The team shared the news on X that they were placing the three-time All-Star on the restricted list minutes before the game. They also announced that they recalled infielder José Fernández from Triple-A Reno. Fernández was listed as a third baseman and in seventh position on the batting lineup, which was posted shortly after the roster moves.
Nick Piecoro, the Diamondbacks beat reporter for The Arizona Republic, which is part of the USA TODAY Network, posted on X that Marte did not show up to Fenway Park for the game. He reported that the star infielder was in town with the team and was supposed to be the designated hitter for the series opener, noting that "Ketel Marte is doing OK physically, he just didn't show up to the ballpark tonight."
Lars Nootbaar took Marte's place in the Diamondbacks' lineup as the designated hitter.
