Major League Soccer has rescheduled FC Cincinnati's match against D.C. United for Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. ET at TQL Stadium.
The match, originally scheduled for Sept. 5, was rescheduled due to pitch conditions and resulting player safety concerns created by heavy rains and inclement weather in the Cincinnati area.
Both teams will then fly to the Washington D.C. area and play again three days later at Audi Field.
The new kickoff date adds to an already congested stretch for FC Cincinnati following an upcoming FIFA international window. They will play seven matches in 21 days from Oct. 10 to Oct. 31. Right before the D.C. doubleheader, Cincinnati will host archrival Columbus Oct. 18, then right after will play at Inter Miami Oct. 28.
Cincinnati dropped to ninth in the MLS Eastern Conference, occupying the last playoff spot, following a 3-3 draw with Charlotte Sept. 12, and now plays its next three games on the road, where the team is 1-6-5 in MLS play. Cincinnati next plays at Houston, who is second place in the Western Conference, 8:30 p.m. Sept. 19.

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel doesn't have any regrets about his decision to rest the starters during the three-game preseason slate.
However, it was clear that the team showed rust in Wednesday's 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Vrabel opted to use the preseason to focus on the roster depth and preserve the health of the starters.
That's a decision that he continued to defend after the disappointing loss in the season opener.
"Playing the backups for the Eagles or the Colts for eight plays, I don't think was going to prepare us for what we saw last night," Vrabel told media members. "I thought we handled the environment; I thought we did. I know the execution wasn't good enough, but the line of scrimmage, penalties, the operation, those things gave us a chance. Some other things didn't give us a chance."

Sourav Ganguly is widely regarded as one of the most influential captains in Indian cricket history. During his career, "Dada" was known for several memorable moments on and off the field, from making Steve Waugh wait at the toss and celebrating shirtless on the Lord's balcony to clashes with coaches Greg Chappell and John Buchanan, arguments with Shane Warne, and refusing to walk after Graeme Smith claimed a catch.
But former Australia captain Michael Clarke has shared another story that shows a lighter side of Ganguly.
In his book Eleven Gods and a Billion Indians, author Boria Majumdar quotes Clarke recalling an incident involving Ganguly and Ricky Ponting during a toss in India, although Clarke admits he does not remember which match it was.
"One of Clarke's favourite anecdotes goes thus: Ganguly and Ricky Ponting were out at the toss during one of the matches in India — Clarke doesn't specifically remember which one — and Ponting had the coin in hand. Just as he flipped the coin, Ganguly, if Clarke is to be believed, said, 'Head-Tail'.
"'Trust me, mate, that's what Ricky told me,' Clarke says, cracking up. 'Ricky said he couldn't fathom what had happened with Dada having said Head-Tail. [And, apparently it was said at the speed of lightning.] It had taken Ricky a second or two to come to grips with the situation and by that time the coin had come down. Ganguly just picked it up and said to Ricky, "We'll bat" and walked off. India had won the toss and were batting. Ricky did not really know what to do or say and all he did was tell us in the dressing room exactly what happened at the toss," Clarke was quoted as saying in the book.
Clarke is not sure which match the incident took place in.
According to available records, Ganguly won five tosses against Ricky Ponting, and all of those came outside India; twice during the 2003 World Cup and three times in the 2003-04 VB Series. That means Clarke may have mixed up the venue while recalling the story, as Ponting would have been the one calling the toss if the match had been played in India.
Clarke, however, clearly states that he does not remember the exact match in which the incident happened.

Even without the help of their left-handed ace starting pitcher Garrett Crochet, the Boston Red Sox have held their own. They are currently 80-67, third place in the American League East and comfortably in the second Wild Card spot.

Bayern Munich star Jonathan Tah has taken to social media this weekend, to send a message of congratulations the way of new Barcelona youngster Mikael Baza.
Baza, for those not familiar with his name, is fresh off putting pen to paper on contract terms in Catalunya's capital. Identified as a transfer target on the part of the Barcelona brass owing to his exploits in the youth ranks of German outfit Hamburg, Deco and co. launched a late-window ***** ault on his signature.
From here, the 16-year-old was unveiled as a Blaugrana player this past Monday, set to link up with Barca Atlètic for the season ahead.
And as alluded to above, Baza has since received a congratulatory message from a leading German international, namely Bayern Munich's Jonathan Tah.

It is a cruel blow for the Poland international, who had made an impressive start to life in France following his summer move to the Champions League club.

ESPN'S Jeff Passan made a humorous reference on social media Sept. 2, quoting a Milwaukee Brewers post that showed Christian Yelich's go-ahead home run in his team's 9-4 win over the Cubs one night earlier.
"Can I ask, by the way, how people in Chicago felt about their home game turning into a road game?" Passan wrote. "That can't happen."

The Buccaneers accomplished one of their biggest goals of the preseason by getting to Week 1 without exposing most of their key players to unnecessary snaps. Whether they got enough work to be ready for the regular season is a different question. Todd Bowles took a cautious approach throughout August, sitting most of his starters against the Jets before giving them limited work against Kansas City. They were back on the sideline for the preseason finale against Jacksonville.
For Baker Mayfield, that meant just two drives and four pass attempts during the entire preseason. Mayfield completed two of four passes for 10 yards against Kansas City, with Tampa Bay gaining just nine net yards and one first down during his two possessions. Bucky Irving notched 14 yards on three carries, but the first team offense never found much of a rhythm and failed to score before Mayfield's night ended. The limited production was easy to explain. Tristan Wirfs wasn't playing, Tampa Bay was without nearly all of their starting receivers, and the offense wasn't going to show much of Zac Robinson's scheme in a preseason game. Still, it was the only opportunity to see Mayfield and most of the starting offense against another team before the games begin to count.
With a strictly backup approach, Tampa Bay closed August with an ugly 19-0 loss to Jacksonville. The Bucs managed only 120 total yards, six first downs and 1.9 yards per play. They went 2-for-12 on third down and punted 10 times. Bowles acknowledged afterward that the offense simply wasn't good enough. Mayfield hasn't played meaningful football since last season, and this was his first preseason action in two years. The Bucs are also adjusting to Robinson's offense, which makes the lack of live repetitions together more noticeable. Some also argue Bowles made the right decision. Tampa Bay has dealt with enough injuries over the past year to understand the importance of entering the season healthy. Training camp and joint practices provide competitive work without subjecting starters to "practice" games. Anyone shrugging at the news A'ja Wilson will not play at the upcoming FIBA World Cup, ***** uming the Americans are so loaded with talent they won't miss the greatest player on the planet, hasn't been paying attention. The world has caught up to the U.S. women and, even with a roster of All-Stars, the World Cup is going to offer a glimpse for players and fans alike of what's in store at the Los Angeles Olympics.
The World Cup begins Friday, Sept. 4, in Berlin, Germany, with the U.S. playing 2022 silver medalist China.
For seemingly forever, the U.S. women have dominated the international game. They've won an unprecedented eight consecutive Olympic gold medals, and nine of the last 12 World Cups. The last game they lost at the Olympics or World Cup — not the ***** le, just a game — was back in 2006, before Caitlin Clark had even started grade school.

NEW YORK (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Dustin May left his start against the New York Mets after one pitch Wednesday night when he was hit in the upper back by A.J. Ewing's line drive.
Ewing's 106 mph liner ricocheted off May as he whirled in an attempt to get out of the way. The ball caromed on one hop right to third baseman David Hamilton, who threw out the speedy Mets rookie at first.

REV Fiber announced it will bring back its Game of the Week high school football coverage for a 21st season, including 32 games across 11 south Louisiana parishes.
Game of the Week has grown from a broadcast focused on Ascension Parish football into a multi-platform production, according to a REV news release.
"For more than 20 years, Game of the Week has been a way for REV to celebrate schools and student-athletes that make south Louisiana special," REV CEO Josh Descant said in the release. "As REV's footprint continues to grow, we are excited to bring this tradition to even more communities and give families another way to experience high school football together."
REV Fiber's Game of the Week Expanded, produced in partnership Varsity Sports Now, will provide coverage of ten additional games returns for a second year.
Also this year, five select games will be livestreamed on REV Fiber's YouTube channel, while five others will be on VSN's subscription-based platform.

Liverpool left St James' Park with a 2-2 draw, a point rescued late by Dominik Szoboszlai from the penalty spot, and that probably tells you two things. First, there was character. Second, there were still too many familiar flaws.
Andoni Iraola's first competitive game as Liverpool head coach did not provide a clean statement of intent. Newcastle found ***** e too easily, moved through midfield too cleanly and exposed a defensive shape that still looks like a work in progress. That will concern supporters more than the result itself, because structural problems tend to linger if they are not fixed quickly.
One player, however, emerged with genuine credit. Ronald Araujo's debut off the bench gave Liverpool some badly needed authority at the back. As Pat Nevin on BBC Radio put it: "There wasn't a great deal in it but you can see the weaknesses that Liverpool had last season have not gone away. The defence doesn't look quite there." He then added: "I would say Ronald Araujo came on and looked quite impressive. very, very powerful and very, very strong. He might be a massive part of the answer."

The Washington Commanders came up short in Saturday's preseason game, falling 17-13 to the Detroit Lions. The game featured some good and bad for Washington. The Commanders' defense sacked Detroit quarterbacks five times, forced two more turnovers and scored on a defensive touchdown.

Former India head coach Rahul Dravid believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi needs a carefully managed pathway as the 15-year-old begins to make his mark across formats, stressing the importance of giving him enough opportunities in red-ball cricket alongside his white-ball commitments.
Sooryavanshi, who enjoyed a breakthrough IPL season before making his T20I debut in England in June, is now set to return to the longer format with East Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
While the teenager has already attracted significant attention in white-ball cricket, his first-class record remains modest. He averages 17.25 from 12 innings across three stints in the Ranji Trophy Plate League, with his domestic campaigns interrupted by India U19 commitments.
Dravid, who coached Sooryavanshi at Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, said the youngster's exposure to both formats is a positive development.
"I think you always have to find that balance. And I think it is a great thing that Vaibhav is getting the experience of playing some white-ball cricket through the IPL in India, but he is also having the time to go back and play red-ball cricket in the Indian domestic system and grow his red-ball career," Dravid said while speaking to Cricinfo.
The former India batter also highlighted the wider importance of developing players capable of succeeding in Test cricket.
"All of us also want to see Tests survive, all of us want to see Tests grow and we need players like him to be able to hopefully play all formats of the game," Dravid added.
For Sooryavanshi, the Duleep Trophy provides another opportunity to build experience in red-ball cricket. Dravid feels the teenager needs sustained exposure to the format, particularly because he has not played it as regularly as white-ball cricket.
"The good thing is he is going to take some time, he is going to need some experience, he is going to get an opportunity to play a lot of red-ball cricket. He hasn't played as much red-ball cricket as probably white-ball cricket," Dravid said.
The 15-year-old's rapid rise has naturally brought expectations, but Dravid urged everyone to allow him time to develop rather than judge him solely on his early success.
"He is only 15 and I think you have got to just give him some time and you have got to be patient with him. He has obviously been such a success straightaway, right, but he is going to go through his ups and downs and I think people are going to have to be patient with him," Dravid added.

"It's been an interesting path but it's been a rewarding one," Pica said. "I've had a great experience to this point and I'm really just trying to maximize every chance I get to make an impact and help this team win."

One of the most exciting plays in Thursday night's preseason action was an 83-yard punt return touchdown from San Francisco's Jacob Cowing. Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh was not happy that punter JK Scott let that happen.
Asked what went wrong on the return, Harbaugh made clear that Scott didn't land the punt where he was supposed to.
"The punt was short and in the middle, and then we got out-flanked," Harbaugh said.
Scott's attempt at tackling Cowing was so weak that Harbaugh was asked after the game if Scott had been instructed not to tackle, on the theory that maybe it's not worth a punter injuring himself in a preseason game. Harbaugh made clear that was not the case.
"No, he's got to have a plan when he's in that position to make the tackle. Something we need to work on, coach up," Harbaugh said.

LOUIS — Gary Woodland doesn't need any reminders about the challenges he has encountered over the last three years, the surgery he underwent in 2023 to remove a lesion from his brain and his subsequent battle with post-traumatic stress disorder that forces him to keep constant anxiety in check while competing at the highest level of professional golf.
But there he was last week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis meeting with an 11-year-old boy from New Zealand after the youngster followed the former U.S. Open champion around TPC Southwind. The boy has an inoperable brain tumor.
Woodland shared this anecdote on Thursday after the first round of the BMW Championship. And just seeing the look in his eyes relaying that moment in Memphis said so much about how he ***** ses what his career has come to mean to others and not just himself.
"I think I got a lot of perspective over the last couple years. I know I'm fighting for a lot more than playing golf," he said. "I'm hopefully having a positive impact on a lot of people's lives just showing up and fighting. Knowing that I'm struggling every day, and hopefully … I'm having a bigger impact than just showing up and showing that I can still compete and play out here and live my dreams. That's the big deal is I'm struggling and I'm still living my dreams. I hope people see that and try to do the same thing."
Woodland's dream took a fairytale turn in late March when he won the Texas Children's Houston Open less than a month after revealing that he suffers from PTSD. Tennessee baseball's Blaine Brown underwent surgery on his left elbow to repair an injury suffered in the Cape Cod League and will miss fall ball, a UT spokesperson confirmed to Knox News on Aug. 18.
Brown, a junior two-way player who mostly played left field last season, is expected to return in time for the 2027 season but will not be able to pitch. He will be able to hit, but whether he will play in the field is to be determined. He had internal brace surgery, which typically requires between six and nine months for a full recovery.
Brown appeared in 15 games for the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod League. He started on the mound for Brewster's playoff game on Aug. 4 but had to exit with athletic trainers after just 1.1 innings.
Brown transferred to Tennessee from Rice last offseason and started all but one game for the Vols. He was a highly acclaimed transfer, having been a first-team all-conference selection at Rice the season before and landing on Baseball America's preseason All-American team for 2026.
It was ultimately an up-and-down season for Brown at the plate, though. He flashed his power with 13 home runs, 12 doubles and 42 RBIs, but hit .240 batting average and had a .308 on-base percentage. He hit .233 in conference play and was ultimately benched for Tennessee's final game of the season in the Chapel Hill Regional.
